i consider myself a feminist as well.. but a feminist with the core ideal of fair and equal treatment and consideration of the sexes to the sexes among the sexes.. in that reguard that would make us ALL feminists.. but not the ideal which considers the detriment of the 'other' sexx.. which is what feminists like her promote.. the 'men are pigs' attitude which gives all feminists the worst POSSIBLE name..

you.. my friend.. were just being a considerate person.. had it been anyone i imagine you'd have held the door them as well.. there is nothing wrong with that.. if it were me and i saw you coming through the door and i got there first i'd have held it for you.. its just common courtesy.. let us NORMAL people keep that ideal alive shall we..

I havnt read the rest of the posts sorry, im male 34 and i hold the door open for anyone out of common curtusy. Only one person i wouldnt and that was a woman were i used to work she was 50+ and thought it was her god given right to not thank people so i stopped holding the door open for her.

 

you obviously bumped into a rude and ignorant woman! Good manners are not known by people like her..a nice gesture and a smile sometimes can make a person's day!!

 

Take some small pleasure in knowing that whatever discourtesy she did to you is pretty insignificant in comparison to how miserable her life must be. If that doesn’t do it for you, next time trip her as she passes and start laughing uncontrollably.

 

It looks it is an overwhelming victory for courtesy.

 

Yesterday, a woman was getting on the bus and had loads of luggage and was inevitably taking a lot of time, thus holding everyone up and making the bus late.

When someone went to help, she rudely shoved them aside muttering, "I can do it myself".

I have got silence, but not an earful. for some of those things that I have read here, I wouldn't be so silent, in my response.
I hold the door open for generally everybody, and say "you are welcome" often, when they don't say `thank you'.

I don't like pushy people much, over the last dozen or so years, those(both sexes) that try to squeeze through a standard size door, at the SAME time as me!

I hold the door for anyone nearby and on the way through... But I would have let the door shut in her face while she was bitching.

 

What about other things?

Courtesy is one thing but if one only held the door open for women that would be another. So extending from the topic, helping women carry something. Example: Helping a women carry some groceries or moving some boxes of stuff that is not to heavy for her to move herself. Taking part in this act may be more so commen courtesy, one would most unlikely take part in such an act if it was a male carrying groceries or boxes. Would one not? My point in being, some things may be seen through the eyes of most as commen courtesy now, but are slowly going to be outdated. However they will be replaced by other activities. Such as each sex participating in doing household chores rather than it being mostly female.

So while holding doors open for women may turn to commen courtesy for all. Just holding the door open for a second longer as one walks through to allow anyone behind themselves to get through easier or just allowing whomever is carrying more bags to go through teh door first. While other tasks may become more shared by both sexes. Such as seeing women holding a door open for other women or even men.
