    It was a quiet day.

This morning I only had 4 hrs of sleep after being out last night. Got up then went to laundry mat to wash clothes. Afterwards I stopped by Walmart to pick up groceries.

    Walked cherry around block.

Later on I stopped by DQ to pick up lunch since I never eat last night. Had an appt to drop off dog at Petsmart for a cleaning.

Got a call from member in meetup group about going out tonight to see a dance group near his house (30 min away from me). I was thinking about staying home to get rest but then decided that I will YOLO.

I will be leaving within the hour. I texted woman from last night if she was interested but she passed on invite. She lives in that area.

Right now I’m struggling due to lack of sleep but the want to go out is keeping me up.

      Just got back from event.

Had a great time even if it was just me and another guy in meetup group. Got on dance floor for awhile. Met both the female and male lead singers. Talked with female singer at great length. Even brought up a time where she waved at event that cheered me up.

I’m looking forward to seeing them again and possible side bands members are involved in.

This event was fun as much as I wanted someone to be out on the dance floor. Female leader singer even said to me “You were out there dancing”. She also got choked up on the waving comment.

Even talked about coming out so far to see band and when I seen her at Blondie/Joan Jett tribute concert.

It's been great. My only real chore was cleaning my air fryer, but then I settled in for some great movies.

I finished up The Disappearance of Alice Creed from last night. While certain character motivations seem convoluted and suspect, it was a gripping thriller, with a great outcome. Logic mavens may have a hard time with it.

Then came the best surprise of the day: Blindspotting. I was getting bored at 30 minutes in, because the fairly funny take on 'life in the hood' (without being about gangs), was going nowhere. BUT then, the rambling aspects of the plot started to glue themselves togaether, and a very solid and impressive theme came into view. In the end, the thesis of the film is stunning and brilliant. A huge 'Watch' for me, but give the film time to breathe, like a fine wine.

Then, I watched Don’t Breathe #1 and 2. I had 2 in my queue for a while, but when 1 showed up, I watched, and I didn't have high expectations for either, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

They are both different, somewhat generic suspense/action /thrillers. Bad guys trapped in a house with a badder guy, but because of star Stephan Lang, who has always been a favorite of mine, and producer Sam Raimi, both movies have a heart that belies the graphic and horrific violence of each, very different scenario.

Decide for yourself, but I loved the fuck out of both of them!

How was Shooters day, you ask?

    HOW WAS SHOOTERS DAY!!!!??!??!?
Shooter will tell you how Shooters day was!

So we have this screen door with the built in screen. You can lower the window and a screen is attached to the window so you can have fresh air or a window.

So the screen got torn and was getting ratty. The thing is, these doors are expensive; $600 or so. But as it turns out, they sell a kit to replace the screen for $80.

How hard can it be, Shooter asks himself?
So the kit arrives, courtesy of Amazon. It includes the rolled up screen, like the old roller blinds, two side rails, a "keeper post" and two retaining clips. Very detailed and well documented instructions. 12 steps. Done. shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. We're talking 6 pieces, 12 steps. The only tool needed is a Phillips screwdriver.
    Really. Just a screw driver.

Except that step 4 is; "remove the old screen roll assembly by pulling the screen rail away from the window". Then in big red letters it notes that the roller is under considerable tension and caution should be used to hold the rail firmly as it detaches from the window.

They knew of what they spoke. Shooter pulled the rail; nothing. Pulled harder; still nothing. Really pulled.

As it turns out, when they say "considerable tension" they mean sufficient to launch said screen assembly out of the door, across the lawn and through the side window of a passing car. Oh, and at the same time launch Shooter backwards across the room and OVER the dining table. And in the process, scattering door pieces and parts into the neighbors yard.

    Well.

Step 5 is about installing the new screen roller assembly, which mainly means sliding it onto two brackets. However, the edited step 5, and steps 6 through 295 is "search for, locate, and recover the pieces launched all over the damn neighborhood. And providing insurance information with the passing car that will itself now need a new window.

So anyway, installing the new roller assembly is not a hard task (once the brackets are recovered from the neighbors yard) and securing it is simple as well.

Step 7 is "pull the screen rail down and attach it to the window by pressing the lip of the screen rail firmly into the window rail".
With the reminder, of course, that the screen assembly is under considerable tension.

As it turns out, pulling down the screen rail requires some real effor, and of course when it slips from ones grasp, the effect is that of releasing a trebuchet, which is to say, releases enough energy to launch the entire screen assembly, AND THE WINDOW across the street and into the neighbors yard.

Repeat steps 5 through 295, then step 6. Apologize to neighbor for damage to garage door caused by flying shrapnel. Provide insurance information.

Eventually the screen rail, under tension, is captured by the window rail and the entire mess is secured by rails and brackets and screws.

As it turns out, the side rails, if installed incorrectly, will tear the screen open like a gutted fish the first time the window is lowered with the attached screen.

They forgot to mention that part in the instructions. Apparently, it hasn't been an issue for the thousands of these kits sold in the last few years.

Anyway, the nice man at Home Depot said the new screen door ($595.99 plus installation) will be installed on Monday.

So now you know how Shooter's day was.

I went out with a friend for a 3 hour lunch where I had the best fish and chips ever!

Then I did some sofa shopping (shopping for a sofa, not from my sofa) and ordered in a very yummy salad. And now I’m up way too late.

Not a great morning but the day is improving.
My husband and I went for breakfast. When the server was bringing our food she placed his food in front of him but dumped mine order on the floor. No biggie. Things like that happen. She felt bad and apologized. I told her it was fine and not to worry about it. The manager saw it happen and came over to help pick it up. They scraped up the food off the floor and onto the plate. She then went back to the kitchen. I noticed that they didn't have my strawberries and whipped cream that I ordered as a side dish but I thought they were just going to bring it out later.
After the manager went to the kitchen which was right across from our table she returned about a minute later with another plate of food. I thought that was quick. The manager said that they already had another order ready because someone else had ordered the same thing.
My husband wouldn't let me eat it. He told me that he watched the manager take the food that was on the floor to the kitchen and put the same food on another plate, replace the butter and bring it to our table. Maybe she didn't realize that he could see her the entire time.
I'm not one that likes to complain at a restaurant so I let it go. My husband wanted to but I wouldn't let him.
So he ended up sharing his breakfast with me which wasn't very good.
When we were going to pay the bill the waitress bought the debit machine but no bill. When i asked for the bill, her response was that she would give me a bill after i paid. I wanted to see the bill first to see what we were being charged for. We got charged for everything. The plate of food that hit the floor and wasn't touched was on the bill. The side of strawberries that I never did get was on the bill. I told them I didn't get the strawberries so they took that off the bill.
They didn't even ask why I didn't eat any of the food on my plate. My husband was mad when we were leaving and he wanted to talk to someone about it. When he tried to talk to the manager when we were leaving she just walked away from him. He didn't even get to say a single word. So we just left.
We got in the car but he didn't leave right away. He looked at me with a puzzled look and said did that really just happen. He was mad the entire drive home.
I'm not even sure what my feelings are. I was so shocked by what happened.
Atleast the rest of the day has been better.

You could always go online and leave a bad review. I think when it’s that shitty, it’s almost a moral obligation to do so. You could have gotten sick from food scraped off the floor. That’s just absolute fuckery and disregard for safety. If they do that, who knows what else they’re doing back there. Is the food past the expiry date? Refrigerated properly? Cleaned properly?

    It was a lazy day.

    Walked cherrypup around block twice.

Remainder of the day it was me around the house. I fell sleep a few times due to lock of rest.

I’m laying on couch watching videos on YouTube.

Tomorrow is going to be busy. Have a KC Chiefs watch party in the evening and have a call for possible job interview.

It's been a nice, restul Sunbday of watching movies.

I finally watched the female remake of Ghostbusters, and it was... 'okay' - nice effects, the story built in a reasonable way, but maybe only 20% of the 'laugh lines' landed even a little, and zero LOL moments. Meh...

Then I watched Catch .44 a pretty decent Tarantino or Soderbergh copier. It tries so hard to be cool - often TOO hard, but it was enjoyable enough, although they don't take enough care to keep the sequences told out of time coherent. Still, you'll get it in the end. It's an okay watch.

Then, the weirdest movie I've seen in a while: The Assignment, starring Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. It's convoluted and... unique, but I had a good time with it. PLENTY of Michelle Rodriguez titties. Decide for yourself, but I can safely say it won't be a waste of time.

    upload_2024-10-6_18-57-3.jpeg

Then a second viewing of Jason Bourne, which I just didn't remember all that much. With Pail Greengrass directing, it's the thrill ride you would expect. Fast-paced and extremely enjoyable.

Ghostbusters... or I guess this ones Ghostbitches as I've heard lol Anyways, I love the main ghost at the end but hated the movie for the most part, especially the cameos. BUT I love ghostbusters so it is what it is, I lean more towards disliking this one but I will watch it.

Waiting to see what happens tonight has no bearing to
having a fwb. She stressed last night that she would prefer to be single.

Thing that puzzles me is “why do I have to deal with your life choices?” It seems that guys just screw it up for the rest. Rest is me.

It was only notable in that I had a frank conversation with my CEO and friend about the fact that I'm ready to take retirement - an idea that's been on my mind, but today it was mostly due to some condescending SEO 'experts' that he lined me up with. They are Indian from India (but assholes come from everywhere), and they had criticized my writing, but had used incomprehensible '3rd Grade' writing to do it. Really?

To make a long story short, the CEO agrees that I will not work with them, and I acquiesced to his request that I stay on for at least 2 to 4 weeks, which puts me at my target date for a true retirement decision - after the election. If it's Trump, I'm good.

Slower than usual day made for a more relaxing atmosphere, easier to concentrate on specifics. Popped in the earbuds and listened to some 70s tunes while sangin and destroying the other crews on the site. Nobody can sing a love song quite like the music man.

It’s was a slow day at work but I had to leave early to go to the dermatologist and get some spot sprayed with nitrogen. He said was sun damage made an appointment for 6 months. Got a message from my girlfriend that her sister is picking her up to go to the emergency room for the third time in a week. Now I’m at home waiting for her to get home and find out what happened.
