It isn't the cost of the fuel that is cripplingly high but the duty on it, which is 60-63% and then VAT on the fuel and on the duty. Take the fuel tax and duty out of the equation and we would be around the same price you pay.

But I do agree it is a monopoly controlled by greedy corporations with no scruples, and OPEC is nothing but a cartel designed to make sure they all get a good share of our cash.

Luckily my driving needs are now few and far between, I put £10 of fuel in a week and that is enough to get me to the shops and my sisters once every other day or so.

Who is OPEC anyway? A bunch of oil exporting nations? Or a bunch of Oil Exporting nations that have always been dictated to by Saudi Arabia? The George Bush Family has ties to Saudi Arabia a lot stronger than any of those other nations in OPEC. And the US makes sure the Saudi's are armed and backed up to keep it that way.

Maybe the most truthful line ever spoke came in a movie called "The Formula." Which was "we are the Arabs."

But the real reason the price of oil crashed and the number of rigs fell by more than half is because the boom and price gouging had gone as far as possibly could and the pipelines and refineries were at capacity.

The problem is, Republicans WANT gas prices to go up, so there's no downside for them in beating the war drums.

 

And President Obama set them up perfectly for that in his speech the other day when he talked about people who cheer bad news. People who want to see the country do badly. And so far at least I honestly believe its working and the vast majority of people don't blame the president for rising gas prices and don't believe the Republicans could do anything that would bring them down.

Can you see that this time? It had zero effect because congress is not about to lift the ban on offshore drilling. And only fools contend we should be drilling off our coasts after the Deep Water Horizon Blowout.

If President Obama was full of shit on his energy policy the US would not have gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel as our largest exports for the first time in our history as far as I know.

And since the Department of Energy loans have a much lower failure rate than US Small Business Administration loans I support them and know they have far more success stories than failures.

I'd also point out that the Wall Street Stock Brokers and Bankers got to keep their bonuses after crashing the world economy and causing the great recession in the US.

So bonuses to Green energy executives doesn't seem so bad to me after that.
