A new profile of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in The Atlantic paints a clear picture of an attention-craving congressman. It’s not a likeable one, but judging by this profile, Gaetz doesn’t seem to care.

The deep dive by Elaine Godfrey was published on Thursday and there were certainly a few standout stories contained within. They might not be terribly surprising to anyone who has followed Gaetz’s rise as a MAGA disruptor on Capitol Hill, but they reinforce his image among many critics who view him as a stereotypical ’90s comedy villain born with a silver spoon in his gullet.

Here are a few of the more notable takeaways:

He’s a Florida GOP Nepo Baby to the Core

While it’s not a new revelation that Gaetz comes from Florida Republican royalty, Godfrey’s account of “Daddy Gaetz and Baby Gaetz” illustrates how the former debate club nerd was all too happy to ride his father’s coattails in local Florida politics:

At the time [Gaetz was serving in the Florida State House], Don Gaetz was president of the Florida Senate, and the father-and-son pair was referred to, mostly behind their backs but sometimes to their faces, as Daddy Gaetz and Baby Gaetz. The latter had a tendency to barge in on his father’s meetings, hop on the couch, and prop his feet up, Ryan Wiggins, a former political consultant who used to work with Matt Gaetz, told me. Because of their relationship, Matt “had a level of power that was very, very resented in Tallahassee,” she said.

But even before he entered politics, his family wealth was not just a source of pride for Gaetz, it was his whole personality:

Matt had a credit card in high school, which was relatively rare in the late 1990s, and he bragged about his “real-estate portfolio,” Erin Scot, a former friend of Gaetz’s, told me. “He was obviously much more well off than basically anyone else, or at least wanted us to think he was.” Once, Gaetz got into an argument with a student who had been accepted to the prestigious Dartmouth debate camp, another classmate said. The fight snowballed until Gaetz threatened to have his father, who was on the school board, call Dartmouth and rescind the student’s application.

Gaetz Works Well With Democrats — When It’s Convenient For Him

Every once in a while, the self-proclaimed MAGA “firebrand” reaches across the aisle to work with Democrats. Godfrey even reported that while he was a State Representative, Gaetz “wasn’t interested in his father’s traditional, mild-mannered Republicanism” and sought out ways to “modernize” the party by courting younger voters and acknowledging climate change:

Gaetz has positioned himself as a sort of libertarian populist. He’s proposed abolishing the Environmental Protection Agency, but he’s not a climate-change denier, and has supported legislation that would encourage companies to reduce carbon emissions voluntarily. He has consistently opposed American intervention in foreign wars, and he advocates fewer restrictions on marijuana possession and distribution. He still allies himself with Democrats when it’s convenient: He defended a former colleague, Democratic Representative Katie Hill, when she was embroiled in a revenge-porn scandal and forged an unlikely alliance with Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over their desire for a ban on congressional stock trading.

Godfrey wrote that while in the State House, Gaetz “was one of two lawmakers to vote against a state bill criminalizing revenge porn.”

He also, at least while he was in the State House, was friends with current Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), with whom he helped pass a bill to strengthen animal-cruelty laws. No word on whether or not that friendship is still happening.

Matt Gaetz Might Have Few Friends Left From His Childhood

Godfrey seemingly found it difficult to find people from Gaetz’s younger days to speak on the record about him:

I had difficulty finding people from Gaetz’s college years who were willing to talk with me; I reached out to old friends and didn’t hear back. Gaetz’s own communications team sent over a list of people I could reach out to; only one replied.

And when speaking to former classmates who were in the debate club with Gaetz:

“We tolerated him,” more than one former debate-club member said when I asked about Gaetz. (Most of them spoke with me on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of retribution from Gaetz or his father.)

Gaetz’s former debate club coach, Marilyn McGill, spoke fondly of her former student when it came to that era of his life. But now?

McGill gushed about her student in our interview. But when I asked what she thought of him now, the former teacher didn’t have much to offer on the record. “He certainly commands the stage still,” she said. “How about that?”

He’s Been Bragging About — and Sharing Images of — His Conquests For Years

Erin Scot recounted to Godfrey that the last time she saw her former friend Gaetz was at the 2009 wedding of a mutual friend. While there, the future congressman showed off nude pictures of a “recent hookup.” And while a state rep in the 2010s, Gaetz was allegedly the creator of a “Points Game” amongst other local GOP lawmakers that awarded certain numbers of points for hooking up with women who held certain political positions:

As the journalist Marc Caputo has reported, the scoring system went like this: one point for hooking up with a lobbyist, three points for a fellow legislator, six for a married fellow legislator, and so on. Gaetz and his friends all played the game, at least three people confirmed to me, although none could tell me exactly where Gaetz stood on the scoreboard. (Gaetz has denied creating, having knowledge of, or participating in the game.)

Which led to the most recent allegations that Gaetz was known to show off photos of his sexual conquests while serving in Congress, including a video of “a young woman hula-hooping naked” that was reportedly seen by a former Gaetz aide. More similar stories came to light after Gaetz was accused of sex-trafficking and having sex with a minor:

Other sordid claims have spilled out since. “He used to walk around the cloakroom showing people porno of him and his latest girlfriend,” one former Republican lawmaker told me. “He’d show me a video, and I’d say, ‘That’s great, Matt.’ Like, what kind of a reaction do you want?” (The video, according to the former lawmaker, showed the hula-hooping woman.)

He Worried the Sex-Trafficking Story Could Scare Off His Fiancée

Gaetz’s alleged porn brags on the Hill came just before he met his current wife, Ginger Luckey. They met and got engaged in 2020 — right before the Department of Justice announced its investigation into Gaetz allegedly paid for sex with women who were recruited to sleep with him by his friend Joel Greenberg, who ultimately pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a child in May 2021. Not ideal right after getting engaged:

On social media, people called Gaetz a pedophile and a rapist; commenters on Luckey’s Instagram photos demanded to know how she could possibly date him. In many political circles, Gaetz became untouchable. He was “radioactive in Tallahassee,” one prominent Florida Republican official told me, and for a while, he stopped being invited on Fox News. Around this time, [Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis] cut Gaetz out of his inner circle. His wife, Casey, had “told Ron that he was persona non grata,” [Peter Schorsch] told me. “She hated all the sex stories that came out.” (Others have suggested that Gaetz fell out with DeSantis after a power struggle with the governor’s former chief of staff.)

The ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation could have further consequences for Gaetz. The committee may ultimately recommend some kind of punishment for him — whether a formal reprimand, a censure, or even expulsion from Congress — to be voted on by the whole House.

Gaetz’s response to the investigation has been ferocious denial. He has blamed the allegations on a “deep state” plot or part of an “organized criminal extortion” against him. His team blasted out emails accusing the left of “coming” for him. But privately, in the spring of 2021, Gaetz was despondent. He worried that Luckey would call off their engagement. “She’s for sure going to leave me,” [Charles Johnson] said Gaetz told him in the days after the stories broke.

But Luckey stood by her man and the pair eloped in August 2021. The Justice Department announced in February 2023 that the charges against Gaetz would be dropped. But the idea of a “despondent” Matt Gaetz sure is a contrast to the persona he’s cultivated.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy placed the blame for his ouster squarely on Gaetz, saying on Wednesday: “I’ll give you the truth why I’m not speaker: because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old girl.”

An investigation by the House Ethics Committee into the allegations that Gaetz paid for sex and participated in sex trafficking is currently underway. A spokesperson for Gaetz told ABC News, in response to a Feburary report about his alleged text messages to this woman: “Rep. Gaetz has no knowledge of these activities by Mr. Greenberg and was not involved in them. Rep. Gaetz has never paid for sex. Rep. Gaetz does not know anything about the woman you’re referencing, though he takes thousands of selfies each year.”

House Republican insults 'tubby' Matt Gaetz to his face in heated discussion: report

    Brad Reed

WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 30: House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) arrives for a meeting of the Republican House caucus on September 30, 2023 in Washington, DC. The government is expected to enter a shutdown at midnight if a last-minute budget deal is not reached by the House on Saturday. (Photo by Nathan Howard/Getty Images)

Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) reportedly got into a heated discussion Thursday with rebellious members of his caucus who have been trying to block foreign aid from passing.

CNN's Haley Talbot reports that Van Orden grew frustrated with Gaetz and his fellow hardliners who have spent months derailing aid packages to American allies Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.

"DVO called Gaetz 'tubby' in fiery scrum," reports Talbot. "GOP Rep. Derrick Van Orden entered the 20 minute heated floor conversation as it was ongoing and dared his right-wing colleagues to move on the motion to oust Johnson."

In an interview with Punchbowl News' Mica Soellner, Van Orden confirmed he got into a confrontation with Gaetz and his allies because he's "tired" of having to deal with them.

"Matt Gaetz just wants to be on TV," Van Orden said, according to Soellner. "They’re holding up foreign aid and not governing. I’m not OK with that."

The fight over the foreign aid package has been brewing for months, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) making nonstop threats to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) should he pass an aid package for Ukraine, which for more than two years has been trying to fend off an invasion from Russia.

So far, Greene has only gotten one other Republican to sign on to her motion to vacate, but many other members of the House Freedom Caucus are also now in an uproar over Johnson's plans to move ahead with the aid packages despite not having secured any additional funding for border security.

Negotiators in the United States Senate earlier this year unveiled a bipartisan immigration reform package that would have included a significant boost to border funding, but Johnson and other House Republicans rejected it after former President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the deal would allow for "open borders."

Whenever we see things like this leaking out of Congress it usually means they are getting ready to make a move. Lots of times they like to foreshadow what evidence they have so when they finally make their move the narrative for why is already out there.

Matt Gaetz attended 2017 party where minor and drugs were present, woman's sworn statement obtained by Congress claims

The House Ethics Committee is investigating whether or not Rep. Matt Gaetz used illicit drugs as a member of Congress, multiple sources familiar with the committee's work told ABC News.

Committee investigators have inquired about whether Gaetz was under the influence of drugs at parties in Florida after becoming a member of Congress in 2017, according to the sources.

According to a sworn written statement that has been obtained by the Ethics committee, a woman says that in summer of 2017, when she was 20 years old, she attended a party in Florida that Gaetz also attended, which featured alcohol and drugs including cocaine and MDMA, sources familiar with the committee's work told ABC News.

MORE: Gaetz subpoenaed by woman he allegedly had sex with when she was a minor in defamation suit brought by friend

In the sworn statement, which has not been previously reported, the woman said that in addition to Gaetz, the party was attended by the then-minor who was at the center of a yearslong Justice Department investigation into accusations that the Florida Congressman had sex with her when she was 17, according to sources.

According to the statement provided to the committee, sources said the woman who made the statement -- who ABC News is not identifying -- said she saw the then-minor naked at the party, which was also attended by adult men other than Gaetz, and that at the party there allegedly were bedrooms that were made available for sexual activities.

Gaetz has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing, including the allegations that he had sex with a minor. The Justice Department informed Gaetz in 2023 that it was declining to bring charges against him.

Though the statement obtained by Congress references Gaetz, it was not written specifically to the Ethics Committee and is not primarily about the congressman, and the woman does not discuss whether or not she had knowledge of Gaetz's alleged sexual relations with the then-minor, sources said.

When asked if Rep. Gaetz recalled attending the 2017 party, a spokesperson for the Florida Congressman told ABC News, "No." The spokesperson also said "no" when asked if Gaetz has used illicit drugs since becoming a member of Congress.

A representative for the House Ethics Committee declined to comment.

The sworn statement places Gaetz at a party with the then-minor, who Gaetz has denied ever having a relationship with and previously claimed "doesn't exist" when asked about the allegations on Fox News in March 2021.

"The person doesn't exist," Gaetz told Tucker Carlson. "I have not had a relationship with a 17-year-old, that is totally false."

In March, Gaetz was subpoenaed as a witness by attorneys representing the former minor in a civil lawsuit brought by Gaetz's longtime friend, Chris Dorworth, who alleges he was defamed by her and others during the Justice Department's probe into the matter. Gaetz is not a party to the lawsuit. Gaetz's deposition is slated for June and could see the congressman asked under oath about allegations that he engaged in sexual activity with the woman when she was a minor.

Last week, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made headlines when he claimed he was ousted because he would not stop the ongoing House Ethics probe into Gaetz.

"I'll give you the truth why I'm not speaker," McCarthy said at an event at Georgetown University. "It's because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old."

Gaetz appeared to respond on X, formally known as Twitter, writing, "Kevin McCarthy is a liar. That’s why he is no longer speaker."

The House Ethics probe into Gaetz has continued to move forward in recent weeks, with investigators reaching out to more individuals, including young women who were allegedly paid by Gaetz's one-time close friend Joel Greenberg to attend sex parties, sources said.

Committee investigators have asked witnesses whether they had seen or had knowledge of Gaetz using and or purchasing drugs himself, sources said.

News that the committee is asking questions about Gaetz and alleged drug use comes weeks after the Florida congressman grilled President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, about his own admitted drug use during a closed-door session with the House Oversight Committee.

MORE: House Ethics Committee issues subpoena for testimony of Matt Gaetz's ex-girlfriend in ongoing investigation

During Hunter Biden's interview with the committee, Gaetz asked if was "on drugs" while serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. The president's son responded, "Mr. Gaetz, look me in the eye. You really think that's appropriate to ask me?"

ABC News previously reported that the House Ethics Committee had subpoenaed Gaetz's ex-girlfriend for testimony, which she sat for in late February.

ABC News also reported that the committee had obtained texts allegedly showing Gaetz setting up a trip to the Florida Keys trip with a separate woman that Greenberg had paid for sex.

A spokesperson for Gaetz told ABC News at the time, "Rep. Gaetz has no knowledge of these activities by Mr. Greenberg and was not involved in them. Rep. Gaetz has never paid for sex. Rep. Gaetz does not know anything about the woman you're referencing, though he takes thousands of selfies each year."

Gaetz has criticized the Ethics Committee for "trying to weaponize their process."

"The Ethics Committee is engaging in payback against me for ousting the person who singularly appointed every Republican -- Kevin McCarthy," Gaetz previously said in a statement to ABC News.

    :)Apparently this;
"Let me be clear about something. I do not judge Boebert on her past, her divorce, her family troubles, or her personal behavior."
    Doesn't apply to Matt Gaetz.
Raising the question, on what basis does american hater judge Gaetz?
Is his familial wealth free game?
    What about his past?
    His personal relationships?
Family trouble? Is that fair game?
What about Personal behavior, is that fair game?

Can you hear Shooter, american hater, all the way up there on your high moral perch?:p

How does posting an article about a woman who reportedly attended a party where Gaetz, drugs, minors, and sex were present and told Congressional investigators about it "judge" Matt Gaetz? That's actually pretty big news. And the judging will be up to the ethics committee.

    And now moving right along.

Gaetz: ‘Corrupt’ Republicans could ‘take a bribe’ and throw House to Dems, blocking Trump

David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement
    April 20, 2024 8:11AM ET

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) (Saul Loeb/AFP/POOL/Getty Images)

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) says some of his fellow House Republicans would "take a bribe" to throw the razor-thin GOP majority to the Democrats if a far-right faction calls up a motion to oust Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, allowing Democrats to hand the gavel to the Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries. he warned if that happens, Democrats would immediately declare Trump ineligible to be President, pack the U.S. Supreme Court, and pass numerous laws like the American Rescue Plan.

"I do believe in a one seat majority there could be one or two or three of my colleagues who would take a bribe in one form or another in order to deprive the Republicans of a majority at all," Gaetz said Friday on his podcast (video below.)

He added, "the risk that one or two of my corrupt Republican colleagues might take a bribe, take a walk, feign an ailment and flip this thing to the Democrats is a risk that is too high for me at this time."

Gaetz's fellow far-right Florida Republican member of Congress, Anna Paulina Luna, told listeners, "I heard that when, if and when the motion vacate is introduced, that there will be immediate resignations of a couple of more moderate members of Congress. And in the event that that happens, that ultimately means it does go to a Democrat speaker."

RELATED: Jeffries Vows Democrats Will Ensure Ukraine Aid Passes as Johnson Defectors Grow

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) last month filed a "motion to vacate," which she can use at any time to force a vote to oust the GOP Speaker, Mike Johnson. U.S. Rep. Tim Massie (R-KY) and just today, U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has signed on as co-sponsors.

Congressman Gaetz told listeners if Democrats do take the House through a force vote to remove Johnson, Democrats would "be declaring Donald Trump an insurrectionist and setting up a barrier to him being able to become the president United States."

"That'll be their leadoff hitter, and then the chaser to that shot will be a massive spending package that looks a lot more like the American Rescue Plan. They will blow past every concept of every cap ever imagined. You'll be looking at Universal Basic Income, you could be looking at packing the Supreme Court."

Le's see if we can follow the logic here. If Matt Gaetz was having drug fueled parties with minors and sex seven years ago that does not count? That makes it ok?

And if a woman has recently submitted a sworn affidavit saying she witnessed that to the Republican controlled ethics committee investigating Gaets that means the Democrats are doing it?

And a sitting US Congressman accused of having drug fueled sex parties with minors is a "slow news day" instead of a really big story?

Does any of that make sense to anyone else?

Because it sure doesn't make sense to other Republican sitting members of Congress.

‘I Serve With Some Real Scumbags!’ GOP Rep. Goes SCORCHED EARTH on Far-Right Colleagues, Claims Gaetz ‘Paid Minors To Have Sex With Him At Drug Parties’

    Jennifer Bowers BahneyApr 21st, 2024, 10:55 am

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) stunned CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union Sunday with a scorched earth rant on far-Right House members.

“So, you voted yes on the foreign aid package,” Bash addressed Gonzales. “Do you have confidence that at this point, given that it is still possible that Marjorie Taylor Greene will push to vacate, to kick (Mike Johnson) out of the Speaker’s chair, that he can survive?”

“He will survive,” Gonzales said. “Look, the House is a rough and rowdy place, but Mike Johnson is gonna be just fine.” Gonzales continued:

I served 20 years in the military. It’s my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags! Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties. Bob Good endorsed my opponent, a known neo-Nazi. These people used to walk around with white hoods at night. Now they’re walking around with white hoods in the daytime. Look, it didn’t surprise me that some of these folks voted against aid to Israel, but I was encouraged to see by a nearly 10-to-1 mark that Republicans supported our allies on the battlefield.

“Wow! Ok, I should say that the federal government did look into Matt Gaetz and those allegations and they decided not to prosecute,” Bash said.

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings added, “Well, unlike Joe Biden’s poor Uncle Bosie, I think Mike Johnson’s going to avoid cannibals in his own party here. He stood up to them this weekend — and the adults re-took control of the U.S. Congress. And I think people got sick and tired — he’s one of them — of Marjorie Taylor Greene being in charge of their life, and they just finally said, “No.” And so I think and I hope that the Democrats will continue to stand with Mike Johnson here for a functional Congress.”

Does anyone sense desperation red panic over Gaetz Congressional investigation like trying to change the subject? Investigations are not being dredged up. The investigations never stopped. The congressional investigations are a new phase.

Matt Gaetz vows Trump will give pardons and 'money settlements' to Jan. 6 convicts

A Donald Trump sequel as president means pardons and a payday for Jan. 6 defendants.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is dangling carrots for the return of the Donald to 1600 Pennsylvania by letting it be known the 45th president keeps his promises.

"As I noted in my last post, one Congressman, or even a more united House of Representatives, can only do so much," wrote Gaetz in an email to constituents. "Congress cannot issue pardons to January 6th defendants, for example."

    Only presidents can do this.

And so Gaetz believes their freedom and "money settlements" will be assured only by reelecting back into office MAGA's leader: former President Donald Trump.

"The most critical thing for these defendants we can do is to re-elect Donald Trump in 2024: he has promised pardons, and he will keep that promise," he vows. "A Trump DOJ could also get to the bottom of prosecutorial misconduct and improper surveillance, and could provide money settlements."

Trump, who is the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has come to refer to the locked up rioters facing justice as "hostages."

Gaetz then boasted about all he's done for the "many J6 defendants and their families."

He mentioned a congressional hearing he held to showcase the "nonviolent" J6 defendants, as well as touring at least one federal lockup in Miami, and sending "numerous letters" to the Bureau of Prisons to seek "relief" and get some of the defendants their property back.

"All of these are behind-the-scenes work that aren’t flashy, but which really matter to people," Gaetz stated.

That includes writing or phoning lawmakers and also making sure to "donate to causes" that benefit the legal defense for Jan. 6 defendants.

It appears the J6 defendants will need every penny to offset what Gaetz describes as Biden's DOJ's "targeting of these people" and "spending the unlimited resources of the federal government to cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills."

Short of monetary support, Gaetz suggested spiritual offerings, writing, "I really believe our prayers in many of these cases have worked as well."

Funny as fuck. We will see but this could turn out to be a stealth candidate with a lot of money behind him. And Gaetz could turn out to be about as popular as a case of the clap in his own district. And who knows what kind of October Surprise the Ethics Committee could pull off.

Right before the filing deadline, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was handed a primary challenge in his Florida congressional district — and he’s not happy about it.

A former naval aviator named Aaron Dimmock filed to challenge Gaetz in the August 20 Republican primary. On Twitter/X, Gaetz made the claim that Dimmock was a “puppet” candidate and former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was the one responsible for making Gaetz’s next run for Congress a little less smooth:

Gaetz was responsible for McCarthy being ousted as Speaker of the House back in October. McCarthy, in turn, blamed his ouster on his refusal to stop an ethics complaint filed against Gaetz alleging that he slept with a teenager.

The Daily Caller, a right-wing news outlet, reported that Dimmock’s LinkedIn page showed that the new congressional candidate “previously supported BLM and advocated for DEI.” Gaetz stated that this made Dimmock comparable to a “Woke Toby Flenderson,” a character from The Office. The site also said that both Dimmock and McCarthy have a connection with “a treasurer with American Patriots PAC, a group founded by allies of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.”

'Strange urban legend': Matt Gaetz brushes off underage sex allegations against him

Rep. Matt Gaetz bemoaned his plight as the "most investigated man in Congress" Monday in response to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy's blaming the Florida Republican, and the ethics probe into allegations Gaetz had sex with a minor, for his ouster.

Gaetz discussed McCarthy's recent claim with Jake Tapper on CNN Monday afternoon, about a month after McCarthy claimed Gaetz led the charge to remove him to stop a since-revived investigation into allegations, which he denies, that he slept with a 17-year-old he was reportedly seen with at a cocaine-fueled party.

"There's not a single human being who has publicly accused me of any wrongdoing of any kind," Gaetz said. "At what point after these things have been said about me for years and years, and not a single person has even accused me of wrongdoing, does this sort of become a strange urban legend?"

Tapper raised the question after McCarthy, pushed out in 2023 by a group since nicknamed the "Gaetz 8," blamed his ouster on the Florida Republican without mentioning his name.

"I'll give you the truth why I'm not speaker," McCarthy said. "It's because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17 year old.

"An ethics complaint that started before I ever became speaker, and that's illegal and I'm not going to get in the middle," McCarthy said. "Did he do it or not? I don't know, but [the Ethics Committee] is looking at it. There's other people in jail because of it."

Gaetz took a sarcastic tone when faced with the video Monday.

"It's obvious from that clip, Kevin's a totally normal one, and his life is back to copacetic post being speaker," Gaetz said.

The Florida lawmaker also noted the Department of Justice concluded its probe into the allegations without choosing to bring formal sex-trafficking charges against him.

Florida tax collector and one-time close cohort Joel Greenberg was sentenced 11 years in 2022 for sex trafficking of a minor and other crimes. His arrest led to the federal investigation into Gaetz.

Gaetz said Monday he wanted McCarthy removed because he felt the former House speaker was a liar.

"My concerns with Kevin McCarthy were around his truthfulness," Gaetz said, "which by the way, he certainly didn't advance any veracity in those comments."

    Huh. Shooter looked. He did.
He can't find a single indictment or trial or conviction of Gaetz having sex with an underage girl.
Why is that, what with Gaetz being a deplorable and all.

Matt Gaetz and Nancy Mace File Astonishing Amount of “Reimbursements”

Republican Representatives Matt Gaetz and Nancy Mace are living high on the hog thanks to a shadowy reimbursement program for House lawmakers passed last year, according to records released by the House and reviewed by The Washington Post.

Mace submitted $19,395 in reimbursement claims from the program last year—and according to two former staffers who spoke with the Post, Mace directed her staff to find the maximum reimbursement she could get, regardless of her actual expenses. Her staff told her she couldn’t conceivably net more than $1,726 in monthly reimbursements, but Mace requested reimbursements at an average of over $2,000 a month anyway.

Meanwhile, the program’s top spender, Representative Matt Gaetz, reimbursed himself more than $10,000 for food last year—double the household average—and nearly $30,000 for lodging. According to The Washington Post, Gaetz got reimbursed for more than $4,000 for lodging for two months in 2023—twice the average cost of rent in Washington, D.C.—and more than $3,000 for five months.

The reimbursement program, launched in 2023, issued $5.2 million in total reimbursements to more than 300 of the House’s 435 members last year. Intended to reflect private-sector reimbursement for business-related expenses, the program is a stopgap in lieu of the deeply unpopular move of Congress voting to give themselves raises. It provides a per-diem maximum spending on lodging and food as laid out by the General Services Administration, which oversees per diems for federal employees.

According to the GSA’s rate chart, a House lawmaker who spends 100 percent of the year working in Washington, D.C.—with no breaks for holidays, the end of legislative session, or weekends—could conceivably collect a maximum reimbursement of $80,377 for the 2023–2024 fiscal year in just lodging. For that same period and parameters, they could conceivably collect $28,835 in food reimbursements. To be crystal clear: These numbers are unachievable for lawmakers, who take weekends and holidays, who travel to their home states, and take legislative breaks. Gaetz somehow managed to achieve half that impossible expense.

Craig Holman of Public Citizen, a nonprofit government watchdog and public interest lobbying group, harshly criticized the reimbursement plan, pointing out its lack of requiremenet of receipts as a “ridiculous loophole” that opens opportunities for abuse.

“Clearly it becomes very difficult to tell whether or not it’s a legitimate payment and whether it’s proper,” Holman told The Washington Post.

A spokesperson for Gaetz defended his splurges, claiming the lawmaker raked up more costs because he’s just a really hard worker and spent more days than most in Washington working. “In 2023, Rep. Gaetz dedicated significant time to his work on the Weaponization Subcommittee, requiring his presence to be in Washington, D.C., on days often when there were no votes, which incurred additional reimbursement expenses to conduct depositions,” the spokesperson told The Washington Post.

While lawmakers aren’t required to provide receipts, running afoul of the rules to fleece the system could result in corruption charges. For lawmakers endorsing a felon for president, that’s practically a badge of honor.

When shooter traveled for business he was required to keep receipts for expenses he wanted reimbursement for.

It was not enough that he use a credit card. He needed an actual, itemized receipt. For example, a meal receipt had to include the actual items ordered for the meal, not just a total for the meal.

A hotel receipt hat to include any specific charges like room service.

And each month every expense report was carefully and thoroughly audited. Any minor inconsistency, like an unreadable receipt, would cause the expense to be rejected.

In more than 45 years of submitting expense reports not a single bogus charge, not a single unsupported charge, was ever reimbursed. Many legitimate charges were rejected for lack of supporting documentation.

Shooter is willing to bet that any government employee, any politician, is subjected to at least as rigorous an auditing of expenses.

Of course, any hack pundit can make wild assertions and innuendo in the name of their propaganda attacks.

Which is what the copy N paste presented to us by American hater is.

Not one example of a false or wrong expense. Not one.

Course, accuracy and truth isn't the point, is it, when we're talking propaganda.
