Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is feeling the heat as his close friend Joel Greenberg's attorney said he client was "likely" to strike a plea deal with federal prosecutors before May 15th.

Following a status hearing before a judge, Greenberg attorney Fritz Scheller spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.

"Does Matt Gaetz have anything to worry about?" a reporter asked.

Scheller repeated the question back to reporters, "And you're asking me to get into the mind of Matt Gaetz?"

""I'm sure Matt Gaetz is not feeling very comfortable today," Scheller said.

Gaetz can deny all he wants, but the prosecution has security video of Greenberg and Gaetz thumbing through a stack of photo ID cards. One of the charges against Greenberg is he fabricated fake IDs for underage girls. That's pretty slimy in itself and raises the question of why. Getting into a bar is not really all that difficult for an attractive young woman, but getting on a plane is a different matter. If any of Greenberg's or Matt's sugarbabies boarded a plane by using one of Joel's fake ID's, there are Patriot Act provisions which cover that kind of thing.

Since Gaetz is unlikely to testify under oath, that leaves it to Greenberg to describe the conversation. As far as I know, Gaetz has not denied knowledge of fake IDs for underage girls. Maybe Tucker Carlson will ask him about that at his next appearance on Fox.

He has denied every paying for sex, which maybe true. This doesn't cover the possibility that someone else picked up the tab. Up to this point, all of Gaetz's troubles could be called "personal problems", but if someone else provided women to have sex with Matt, the prosecutor's are going to ask what was in it for them. If one looks at the history of disgraced Congressmen, "accepting favors" is pretty much top of the list of their offenses.

More details are emerging on the sex trafficking scandal involving Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

"In two late-night Venmo transactions in May 2018, Rep. Matt Gaetz sent his friend, the accused sex trafficker Joel Greenberg, $900. The next morning, over the course of eight minutes, Greenberg used the same app to send three young women varying sums of money. In total, the transactions amounted to $900," The Daily Beast reported Thursday. "The memo field for the first of Gaetz's transactions to Greenberg was titled 'Test.' In the second, the Florida GOP congressman wrote 'hit up ___.' But instead of a blank, Gaetz wrote a nickname for one of the recipients. (The Daily Beast is not sharing that nickname because the teenager had only turned 18 less than six months before.) When Greenberg then made his Venmo payments to these three young women, he described the money as being for 'Tuition,' 'School,' and 'School.'"

Greenberg has been indicted on 33 counts, including sex trafficking.

"Gaetz and Greenberg are both connected through Venmo to this then-18-year-old woman—who now works in the porn industry, according to a friend of the girl. And on Thursday, Greenberg's attorney and prosecutors indicated during a court hearing that they expect Greenberg to strike a plea deal, likely meaning he plans to cooperate with investigators," The Beast reported. "That could be potentially disastrous for Gaetz, as investigators look into the connections between these two men. And one particularly damning connection is their financial transactions."

My theory is this investigation has been going on since 2019 and as soon as the feds dropped the hammer on Greenberg in June 2020 Gaetz and lots of other people knew he was under investigation then. Its been one of those stories just simmering on the back burner because there was nothing official. Then it all started to blow wide open as soon as word got out Greenberg had flipped on Gaetz and was going to cooperate. And at the first sign of a leak Gaetz blew open the dam to go for the detraction. But its not working because now the flood gates are open and everyone wants in on the story.

Yeah, this is what "scared shitless" looks like. Actually, this is the bully's fantasy, a belief that one has power when others fear one.

In this case, the fear is real and it's Matt Gaetz who is afraid. It won't help Gaetz, but in a few days, Trump supporters will decide that what Matt did wasn't all that bad because all politicians have sex with minors, and if someone else pays the girls to show up, that's just free market economics at work.

 

I think you are right. This guy is already not a real Republican and needs to be thrown out of the party because he dared to vote for Trump's impeachment so conservative/Republicans will have even more reasons to support Gaetz and probably want to promote him to vice president when Trump triumphantly returns as president which I think the My Pillow Guy says will be in August now.
