I would bet that if I took that same survey here on the form that I would get similar answers. In fact the answers might be higher for the simple fact that society has changed and is more tolerant than 30 years ago.

 

Not that I'm doubting your results or anything Oweena, but there's problems that kind of arise from your study that could make it inaccurate.

For one, how was the term 'incest' defined? I'm sure that it has a slightly different meaning for everyone. Like for instance, one person sees having sex as incest while another sees maybe an accidental kiss as being incest. Also,, did people think it was incest if the fantasized about it or roleplayed it?

Second, I'm curious why you'd independently do a study on incest out of no where. Or were you asked to? (Not that it has anything to do with numbers, I'm just curious)

Third, the group you asked these questions to may have been a bad sample of people. I mean, if they were all psychological patients then that could definitely change the results.

Fourth, your data is 22 years old from a time when 'free love' was highly emphasized. That alone would distort the results.

Fifth, there comes the fact that on questionnaires and surveys, let's face it, a number of people lie just for the hell of it.

Sixth, what type of area and community did the survey take place in? That may change the data you received a lot as well.

There's just to many variables that could make your data rather distorted...

 

You are right. It is extremely difficult to get an accurate reading on such a limited survey. I only had a small grant to conduct my study with so I did the best I could with what I had to work with.


I took a cross section of the city of Huston so that I would get as accurate a picture as I could.


I have read other studies on the same subject and those also came up with similar satistics.
