  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

How leila, how do you feel about the fact you can run both XP and OSX on the new Macs?

As a Mac user myself (and the one that converted Leila after she called me up in tears because her Dell had crashed during a huge report and she'd just gotten it back from the guy who fixed it last time and I don't think it was even a year and a half old) I can say when I first heard the news the first thing that came to my head was "Blasphemy! Sacrilege! Is nothing sacred in this world!" Or something like that.

It turns out to have been no big deal. They're a little less secure now, and I saw how someone, somewhere even got the iMac to display the Blue Screen of Death, but it could have been a prank.

Leila is a bit more qualified than me to talk about the pro's and cons of PC vs. Mac as she was a Window's user all her life and used to make fun of me and my Mac ways. But now look at her.

As with anything, if you don't like it, don't use it, but Pookey, you say it just sucks, I wonder what you base that on? Is it all the awards it wins and all the rave reviews their software suites get? But sure, that again can be personal preference I suppose. But you claim their software sucks, then you use an iPod, which is Apple software, and you say it was really the best choice.

Or maybe base that on the fact that Leila has had her iBook for...almost three years maybe? I think that's what she said, I forget when she actually got it, and it's never crashed. Or that I've been using OSX for pushing 2 years and it's also never crashed. Sure sure, some folks with PC's don't have them crash, but that's pretty rare. My friend has to reformat his at least once a month, and he's one of those tech savvy people. He's been programming them -according to him- since he was about 9. My mom, before I got her to buy an iBook, no less then two out of the three she had seemed like they were in the shop at any given time and the 3rd needed to be as well. These aren't damning arguments. Macs have problems too, but the majority of ones I hear about tend to be hardware related, not software. On my old iMac running OS9 I had the hard drive give out and had to get a new one, and every so often it would crash on me, many times while using Quark Xpress. But nary a problem on OSX.

And if you're angry that you can't mod it or hack the software, etc., you're a small segment of the personal computer using world. Most folks aren't interested in ripping the guts out of their hardware and software and tinkering with it. They just want it to do what it says it will do and not screw up on them. If you're of the tinkering sort, then no, Macs aren't for you. A general rule of thumb is if you see a Mac user with a saudering iron near the exposed innards of their Mac, you should quickly knock them out and steal their Mac, placing it with a nice, friendly family that will not feel the need to destroy such a near-perfect machine. ;-)

Not to say it can't be done. I saw one guy who took one of his macs and devoted it strictly to playing music, then wired it up to his old hi-fi stereo (think the stuff you had circa 1982 with the huge silver dials and the big fat radio tuner, etc.) and then reprogrammed iTunes and the like to run off the dials and nobs.

But hey, you like Windows or Linux, use it. This isn't a 'you should switch' sort of thing.

The difference with the iPhone and other mobiles that display web info is that the iPhone actually runs OS 10 and it displays the actual web page, not a scrunched down or heavily modified version of it. It runs Safari, Apple's browser. And according to the news release, they have over 200 patents on it. It sounds like a bit more then reprogramming an existing cell phone.

And no, Cisco is not suing Apple over the rights to iPhone. As of the unveiling the contracts were expected to be signed at any time that gave Apple licensing rights for the name.

My daughter who has a degree in computers just purchased a new Mac notebook...I was very surprised because she has been a pc user always...According to her they are so far superior to what she's been using...She is so good with what she does I can just call her and she guides me through fixing mine...Thank goodness for daughters most of the time, however, she wouldn't let me touch a Dell when I purchased a new pc this summer...

Once I get the money needed, I'll definately be buying an Intel Macbook, I think the reason a few people don't 'like' macs is the compatibility issues, so If I can run a mac that can use OSX for most things, and the possibility of booting windows for other things, it's perfect.

People are still under the old "compatability" conception when the truth is, Macs can run pretty much any program Windows can. I transfer files from my Mac to my work computer (with Windows, grr) all the time. Unless you are a gamer, compatability is not an issue. I have the Microsoft office suite on my Mac, for example.

But for those of you who just can't seem to disconnect from Windows, they have made it so you can boot windows from a Mac. But trust me, you won't want to.

I was thinking about getting one, but 8 gigs is just not enough space especially considering the $600 price tag  . Also the 2 year cingular deal puts the nail in the coffin as far as i'm concerned. I really wanted a "true" video iPod not a nano in a cell phone.

I dont like Macs because I used to use them, and theyd break down, and show all their fancy bugs, and its always a bitch to find software for a mac, you cant use any games, Always annoying to update, they freeze up too... And all the bullshit marketing ideas of how they try to make their computers better, in one i remember They basically say that their computers are so much better because of a magnetic power cord, A POWER CORD! WINDOWS DOESNT MANUFACTURE THAT!!!!!!

And not to trash mac but basically every piece of software is made for windows, not every piece for a MAC

I wonder if we are talking about the same machines. I have never, ever, had mine break down, freeze, or have any problems. Plus, ever Mac owner I've ever known has never had one do that. I think he is confusing them with PCs which do nothing but freeze, break down, crash, and lose files.

And Pookey, I hate to break it to you, but the commercial you are referring to had nothing to do with Mac vs. Windows. The commercials are for Macs, and that particular one was just showing off one of the neat little features that a Mac notebook has-a magnetic power cord that will pop off in the event that someone trips over the cord and causes it to yank out...instead of tossing your computer to the ground or jacking up the cord. It said nothing against Windows, that's why in the beginning of the commercial it says "Hi, I'm a Mac" and "hi, I'm a PC". Duh.

And I said earlier that software is easy to find and compatability issues are virtually nonexistant anymore "Unless you are a gamer" So, obviously this rant is one coming from the perspective of a gamer, and not a person who needs a functional machine for real life needs. And I understand your hostility. If I was forced to sit for 12 hours a day playing computer games on an inferior machine that is plagued with viruses, I'd be hostile too. :D

I thought I was talking about PC's and Mac's, but I dont see why a PC PSU cant have that? I mean you could get one really really easy im totally sure, or Mod it real easy.

Okay, this is why Mac has almost no viruses, I bet you if you ask 10 people who have computers, middle class, if they PC or Mac, or LINUX, 7 of them will say PC - Windows, I only know 3 mac users at the moment in RL. Now think, what does every PC with windows have installed? Internet Explorer. We all know IE isnt the pride and joy of Windows, hell they dont even care about it... So what do hackers do? Make hacks and keyloggers and spyware and viruses that can easily find its way through theese holes. This is how idiotic PC users, people who need help finding "MICROSOFT WORD" and making folders get hacked, hell ive done it to my friends to screw with them!

Now do you really think a MAC hacker is going to waste his time and mass distribute a hack for MAC? No. Anyone who would buy a Mac has to have some tech sense not to click the fancy link and download this executable file because its supposed to be porn.

I dont use Microsoft Internet explorer, I use Mozilla Firefox. I have never in my life of this Hard Drive had one single virus, got NOD32 running, it owns hard. And I dont click links and download exe's and always do weekly scans, and close programs when they end.

Macs may not suck much, hell windows sucks too, but its the software and modibility and programmability and accessibility and everything ability that matters

But you either love it or hate it I guess :\

    I hate it. lol

Almost everything in this thread should be said in the past tense. Macs "used" to crash, etc. Pookey I just wonder if you were using Mac's back in the OS7 and 8 days or even farther back. Those were the days of incompatibility and of freezes. There was a very annoying error message that would pop up when the system locked up, it had a little cartoon bomb on it. You know, the black ball with the wick sticking out to the side. It could be quite terrifying. But OSX now for 2 years and haven't had a system freeze once.

And as a Mac user for about 8 years, I can say with some authority that that video is crap. Funny yes, but I spent almost 4 years doing graphic design on a Mac and never had any of those problems he speaks of.

And I'm very happy to say that yesterday I plopped down $1,500 USD and took home my very own MacBook. Got me a 2.0 ghz Intel Dual 2 Core processor, 1 gig of ram, a dual layer dvd drive so I can burn DVD's, built in wi-fi, blue tooth and webcam (used it with Leila last night but she doesn't have one on hers, it's an older model. But I'm gonna fix that soon) and the extended three year warrenty. And if I so desire an exercise in frustration, I can go and buy Windows and install it on here. Even run both simultaneously thanks to a program called Parallels.

I had this baby out of the box, set up in 5 minutes (minus the hour it took to transfer the files and system preferences from my Mac Mini desktop model to this one and even that was as easy as connecting them together via Firewire and hitting transfer) and connected to my sister's wireless network at her house (all PC's) and surfing the web. Even my sister, who refuses to broach the subject of a switch, was impressed and wide-eyed. Her HP laptop, barely two years old, takes almost 15 minutes to boot up. I was waiting for it yesterday before we went to the Apple store where I could purchase my new white beauty, when she told me "it takes forever, you might as well go do your hair."

Is that normal for PC's? Maybe hers is broken.
