The one that jumps out at me is the investigation of the fake electors. The people who forged those documents are mostly the top echelon of the Republican party in their respective states. They are mostly affluent with careers who enjoy conservative Christian White Privilege and have a shared psychosis with Trump and honestly believed nothing bad will ever happen to them They are soft people with a great deal to lose. So when they are looking across the table at the FBI and potential big time felonies they will fold like cheap suits and try to cut a deal to save themselves.

DOJ targets Trump VIPs as Jan. 6 committee is ‘triangulating’ investigation: report

New information is coming out about the expanding Department of Justice investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

"The criminal investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol has expanded to examine the preparations for the rally that preceded the riot, as the Justice Department aims to determine the full extent of any conspiracy to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s election victory, according to people familiar with the matter. In the past two months, a federal grand jury in Washington has issued subpoena requests to some officials in former president Donald Trump’s orbit who assisted in planning, funding and executing the Jan. 6 rally," The Washington Post reported.

More details were revealed in a subsequent story in The New York Times.

"A grand jury sitting in Washington is investigating the rallies that preceded the storming of the Capitol, a person familiar with the matter said. One of the subpoenas, which was reviewed by The New York Times, sought information about people 'classified as VIP attendees' at Mr. Trump’s Jan. 6 rally," the newspaper reported. "It also sought information about members of the executive and legislative branches who had been involved in the 'planning or execution of any rally or any attempt to obstruct, influence, impede or delay' the certification of the 2020 election."

The newspaper reported the DOJ was looking at multiple lines of inquiry, writing "Those include any connections between the attack on the Capitol and the organizers and prominent participants in the rally on the Ellipse, and potential criminality in the promotion of pro-Trump slates of electors to replace slates named by states won by Mr. Biden. The Justice Department previously said it was looking into the slates of electors that had falsely declared Mr. Trump the victor in seven swing states won by Mr. Biden."

Meanwhile, a member of the House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol explained how Congress was advancing its investigation.

“We’re triangulating basically from a lot of different angles and we are getting a fulsome picture of what happened in the run-up to and on the day of January 6,” Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) told CNN+.

Also on Wednesday, The Guardian reported that White House call log gap from Jan. 6.

"Donald Trump used an official White House phone to place at least one call during the Capitol attack on January 6 last year that should have been reflected in the internal presidential call log from that day but was not, according to two sources familiar with the matter," Hugo Lowell reported. "The former president called the phone of a Republican senator, Mike Lee, with a number recorded as 202-395-0000, a placeholder number that shows up when a call is incoming from a number of White House department phones, the sources said. The number corresponds to an official White House phone and the call was placed by Donald Trump himself, which means the call should have been recorded in the internal presidential call log that was turned over to the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack."

MSNBC's Chris Hayes reported on the latest developments.

Narrative About ‘Mystery Gap’ in Trump January 6 Call Logs Just Collapsed: Report

Haters of former President Donald Trump thought they found a smoking gun to disqualify him from running for reelection in 2024. They will have to continue searching, though, as the baseless comparisons to Watergate have been debunked.

CBS News Tuesday posted a story announcing a seeming gap of almost seven hours from January 6, 2021 White House phone logs.

“BREAKING: CBS News and the Washington Post have obtained White House records turned over to the House, which show a gap in President Donald Trump’s phone logs of seven hours and 37 minutes on January 6,” the legacy media outlet proclaimed in its post.

Liberal network “CNN” also questioned the gap in the presidential phone records during the Capital riot in a Tuesday report. They did note near the end of the article that there may be a reasonable explanation.

“Sources told CNN that Trump had a habit of asking aides to call certain people on his behalf and January 6 committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson has acknowledged that the use of private cell phones was common in the Trump White House,” wrote Veronica Stracqualursi.

A Thursday analysis published by “The Washington Post” suggested the seeming gap smacked of a coverup, saying coverups can prove criminal intent.

“It’s possible the lack of detail on that call and its exclusion from the call log simply reflected the beginning of 7½ hours of sloppiness,” the Post’s Aaron Blake wrote. “But it could also point to tampering after the fact.”

A Friday “CNN” article attributed to six reporters closed the books on the seeming mystery.

“The six pages of White House switchboard logs for January 6, 2021, are complete based on an official review of White House records, according to a source familiar with the matter,” the report noted. “There are no missing pages and the seven-hour gap is likely explained by use of White House landlines, White House cell phones and personal cell phones that do not go through the switchboard.”

A CNN correspondent Jamie Gangel tweet suggests congressional review of the former president’s phone activity that day is not done.

“That said, the @January6thCmte still wants to know who Trump was talking to and what he was doing and not doing during the attack,” Gangel said. “There are other phone logs and records they can check and ask for.”

“This simply speaks to Trump not using the WH switchboard to place calls.”

I posted this article in its entirety because it so succinctly states the case against the US government, Democrats in Congress and a few rogue Republicans. This is serious stuff. Who would have believed that everything authoritarian and totalitarian we were warned about coming from Trump has actually arrived, but under the auspices of the illiberal Democrats. I lived overseas for 21 years in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and I honestly don't know what to say except that this breaks my heart, because this is what one would expect, would EXACTLY expect from the Saudis or Egyptians.

Most know little or nothing about what is going on right now, but the author is correct. ANY African regime which behaved like the Biden administration is while using its state security services to suppress dissent and punish political opponents under the guise of a “domestic war on terror,” would be swiftly condemned by the UN, and punished with sanctions.

American Gulag: With Noor Bin Ladin’s Help, Revolver’s Work Has Made It Into the Official Records of the UN
    April 7, 2022

For the past year, Revolver has done more than any other publication to undermine the discredited official narrative of the January 6 U.S. Capitol incident. We have exploded the myth of a planned insurrection, and forced both Congress and the national media to confront substantial evidence that federal informants and provocateurs were active on 1/6 and played a central role driving the events of that day forward.

Now, with the help of Noor bin Ladin, Revolver’s work has made it into the official records of the UN. The full document is reproduced further below, but first, here is Noor’s own account of how this came to pass:

If there is an audience that will appreciate the irony of my initiative below, it’s has to be the astute readers of Revolver. Obviously, we know the UN is the Globalists’ rotten, beyond corrupt smokescreen structure to which we should give zero credence. But since the U.S. government is rogue, and so are they, I thought we might as well use their own mechanism to call them out on their hypocrisy.

Last month, prior to interviewing Jeremy R. Hammond for my podcast, I discovered a trove of documents submitted to the UN Human Rights Council by the Planetary Association for Clean Energy (PACE). PACE is a Canadian scientific network with UN ECOSOC accreditation for which the likes of Jeremy, Kris Newby and Dr. Mike Yeadon have written in the past. One of their writers for the 49th session of the Human Rights Council pulled out at the eleventh hour and I was asked whether I would like to take his spot. 1/6 immediately came to mind. PACE’s status allows it to submit documents to the Human Rights Council, which may or may not be reported upon by Special Rapporteurs. This is one of the few ways that civil society can formally make its opinion known to the Human Rights Council. I accepted their invitation in order to write about the fake January 6 insurrection and the subsequent human rights abuses of the protesters. All of this was done on very short notice — PACE submitted the following document (ref. A/HRC/49/NGO/244, published on March 9, 2022) to the UN Human Rights Council literally one minute before the automated system was shut down (this also explains the handful of outstanding typos in the official document).

Realistically, unless these documents have political support or fit the official UN narrative, they will be relegated to a digital drawer and conveniently ignored. Knowing full well that the U.S. Government, along with Soros and his ilk, exert excessive influence over the UN and its various body parts, it is still worth poking them in the eye by using their own rulebook. That being said, these are still valid UN work documents, made within its legal framework for each OHCHR session, which take place in Geneva three times a year. In other words, some of the Human Rights abuses of the 1/6 detainees are now in the UN’s public records. To my knowledge, this matter has not been addressed by the UN yet, other than their own early declarations echoing the official narrative. While it may indeed be a long shot, the objective is to officially bring this issue to the attention of the High Commissioner and Special Rapporteurs, giving them the opportunity to report on it… we shall see.

The transcript below is the original submission. The official UN document (PDF) is available here. The bibliography of sources used to write it can be found here.

    Another Look at 1/6
On January 18, 2021, Special Rapporteurs of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) released a statement in which they condemned the “violent attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election at the United States (U.S.) Capitol on 6 January”, referring to the event as “shocking and incendiary.” They joined several top UN officials who had decried the “assault on democracy” immediately after the protest.

As more information on Jan. 6 comes to light, the OHCHR should consider modifying its earlier position, as it is now clear that most if not all early reports of violence by demonstrators were deliberately falsified by U.S. security services, including the FBI. Indeed, many of these acts were apparently committed by the security services themselves.

In addition, the reference to free and fair elections in the OHCHR statement is unwarranted, since no consensus on the U.S. 2020 elections has yet emerged, either domestically or internationally among recognized election monitors.

Furthermore, the subsequent crackdown on the Jan. 6 protesters by U.S. security services, the physical abuse of arrested protesters, and the surveillance and intimidation of their political supporters throughout the United States, all constitute a massive violation of UN human rights norms, as set forth in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT), and others.

Prominent U.S. journalists, including Darren Beattie of Revolver News and Glenn Greenwald, among others, have conclusively proved that Officer Sicknick was not bludgeoned to death with a fire extinguisher, as originally reported, nor was he even attacked by protesters at all, but rather suffered two strokes and died of natural causes the day after the protest, according to the District of Columbia’s chief medical examiner, forcing a retraction from The New York Times.

Julie Kelly of American Greatness analyzed available video footage and all charges leveled at the Jan. 6 protestors. She unmistakably concludes that it wasn’t an ‘armed insurrection’ as there were no arms, and it wasn’t even a breach since Capitol Police officers lifted barriers and allowed protestors to enter through open doors.

Since January 6, more than 700 people have been arrested. Seventy men are under pre-trial detention orders, including about 40 who are in a political prison in Washington DC specifically affected for January 6 detainees. These defendants have not been convicted of any crime, and yet have been denied bail repeatedly as their trials continue to be delayed into the middle or end of 2022, with some awaiting in jail for over a year for a trial date.

Prosecutors are petitioning the courts for indefinite incarceration, and federal judges in turn grant these punitive demands from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to incarcerate defendants for minor offences such as trespassing, parading, demonstrating, and picketing — even for first time offenders. As Julie Kelly notes, “they are presumed guilty until proven innocent.” According to court memos and sentencing motions, the ‘unprecedented’ nature of the ‘attack’ on the Capitol, as well as the ‘need to deter others in cases involving domestic terrorism’, warrants this blatant disregard of the law.

Furthermore, there are detainees who have been refused medical treatment, some for injuries caused by prison guards, while certain others have been placed in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, denied access to family, lawyers, and even to evidence. This includes the 14,000 hours of Capitol Police surveillance video footage, which remains under strict protective orders to this day. Also being withheld from defendants are the transcripts of the January 6 Committee’s interviews with Ray Epps, one of the ringleaders on the ground caught on numerous tapes urging and directing protestors to ‘go INTO the Capitol’, both on January 5 and January 6.

In many cases, defendants are made to read specific materials to reprogram their political beliefs, having been advised by their attorneys that political “confessions” will win them leniency.

Meanwhile, Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd faces no consequences for shooting demonstrator Ashli Babbitt to death, though she carried no arms and presented no threat as video footage shows.

From a human rights’ standpoint, the unjust treatment of these political prisoners is clear to any man or woman of honor claiming to support the three cornerstones of our legal system: the blind application of the law, the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial. The denial of Constitutional guarantees of free speech, free assembly, and free and fair elections should also appall anyone who purports to advocate for freedom, individual liberties or ‘democracy.’

Several members of Congress, such as Sen. Ron Johnson, have sought answers regarding the treatment of January 6 detainees, prosecutorial overreach, scope of discovery and other abuses of powers from the DOJ, the FBI, and the January 6 Committee — whose tactics the New York Times of February 6, 2022 even referred to as prosecutorial, in contrast to more common techniques reserved for congressional inquiries. The formation itself of the Committee also raises questions regarding its legitimacy, as does the extent of its purview.

House Majority Leader and January 6 Committee initiator, Nancy Pelosi, refused to heighten security on Capitol grounds on six consecutive occasions, despite being forewarned ahead of the march. Why?

On July 6, 2021, the United States Capitol Police announced the expansion of its powers without any oversight or congressional approval. How?

Not much clarification can be expected from these essential questions, as Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, among figureheads from the Department of Defense, all join in the political ruling class’ chorus of ‘white supremacy’ and ‘domestic terrorism’ constituting the greatest threat to America today, and the justification for their crackdown on citizens’ rights.

January 6 is not the first event used as a pretext to inflate the surveillance state machine and weaponize the national security apparatus against US citizens. In the same manner 9/11 and the ‘war on terror’ was used to justify the passage of the Patriot Act in 2002, January 6 and this ‘new war on terror’ are being used to justify this latest expansion of the security state. Except this time they are not even bothering to formally obtain congressional approval, as noted above.

January 6 is also not the first FBI-led entrapment operation. The alleged plot to kidnap Michigan’s Governor Whitmer a few months prior, was revealed to have been set up by agents and informants as well. There exist countless other similarities between January 6 and the Whitmer kidnapping plot. Coincidentally, or not, Steven M. D’Antuono, the chief of the FBI Detroit field office who oversaw the Whitmer case, was promoted by FBI Director Christopher Wray to head the Washington D.C. field office a mere few weeks before January 6.

In general, U.S. security services have a long and well-documented history of using provocateurs to provoke violence, in order to fabricate a pretext for crackdowns against dissidents.

For instance, a US Army counterinsurgency handbook from 1966 recommended that the government create a “pseudo-insurgent force” to generate “incidents among the population,” which could be used to “indicate to the people the need for government-sponsored population control…”

This scenario was applied in the notorious 1985 MOVE bombing, in which Philadelphia, with training, logistical support, and oversight from federal agencies FEMA and the FBI, carried out a preemptive strike against a house in North Philadelphia occupied by an armed group of black urban survivalists called MOVE. The explosives started a fire that destroyed not only the MOVE house, but two city blocks and 61 homes. All but two occupants of the MOVE house were killed, including five children.

Reports of U.S. journalists make it increasingly obvious that the so-called “insurrection” of January 6 was largely, if not entirely, a government-orchestrated provocation, whereby a peaceful protest was infiltrated by “pseudo-insurgent forces,” exactly as prescribed by well-known US Army counterinsurgency doctrine.

International human rights monitors, including the OHCHR, have shown a puzzling lack of interest in the obvious human rights abuses being reported.

Since the inception of the United Nations, critics in the developing world have accused the UN of being an instrument of neocolonialism. Such critics are eager to point out human rights violations in developing countries, but treat human rights violations by developed Western powers with proverbial kid gloves.

In this critical moment of history, the OHCHR has a unique opportunity to demonstrate that the UN no longer fears to subject its financial patron, the United States, to the same human rights standard that it has traditionally applied in places like Zimbabwe, Sudan, Burma, or Russia.

An African regime that behaved like the Biden administration, using its state security services to suppress dissent and punish political opponents, under the guise of a “domestic war on terror,” would be swiftly condemned by the UN, and punished with sanctions.

We respectfully urge the OHCHR to reconsider its January 18, 2021 statement, in light of new evidence, and to take forceful action against the grievous human rights violations now being unleashed against political dissidents by US security services.

MAGA rioter throws Trump under the bus: He 'authorized' the attack on the Capitol

Fomer US President Donald Trump attends a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit. Former US president Donald Trump described Germany as a "hostage of Russia" in comments to "Fox Business" on Tuesday. Bernd von Jutrczenka/dpa

On Tuesday, NBC News reported that Dustin Thompson, an Ohio man charged for his role in the January 6 Capitol attack, is arguing in court that former President Donald Trump "authorized" the insurrection.

"Dustin Thompson, 38, of Ohio, is the third Jan. 6 defendant to face a trial by jury after the convictions of Guy Reffitt and former police officer Thomas Robertson," reported Ryan Reilly. "Thompson faces six charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding and theft of government property. His co-defendant, Robert Lyon, pleaded guilty last month, admitting that he and Thompson traveled to Washington together, stole a coat rack and fled from police when they were confronted on the grounds of the Capitol."

"Samuel Shamansky, an attorney for Thompson, told jurors Tuesday that his client had 'snatched the coat rack, foolishly,' and that there was 'no question' that his client took part in the 'horrible' event on Jan. 6 that interrupted a 'solemn and sacred proceeding,'" the report continued. "But, Shamansky argued, the 'genesis' of the attack began months before Jan. 6, and responsibility fell at the feet of Trump, who 'authorized this assault' on the Capitol."

Thompson has argued for months that the former president pushed him to invade the Capitol, and at one point even asked the court to appoint U.S. Marshals to help him subpoena testimony from Trump, as well as his allies Rudy Giuliani and Steve Bannon.

Several January 6 defendants have sought to blame the former president for their behavior. Prior to the attack, Trump gave a speech at a rally in D.C. claiming that the 2020 election was stolen and urging his supporters to "fight like hell" for him. He also expressed sympathy for the attackers while the event was unfolding and waited hours to tell them publicly to go home — all of which was part of the basis for the former president's second impeachment.

While some judges have agreed Trump bears responsibility for the attack, it has not gotten most rioters out of punishment for their offenses.

Trump admits he pressured Bill Barr to take the fall for his coup: 'You have to get impeached, maybe'

Donald Trump speaks to Fox News (screen grab)

Donald Trump on Wednesday complained that Attorney General Bill Barr refused to get impeached for trying to help him overturn the 2020 election.

Trump began by complaining about investigations into his family company and self-coup attempt, but veered off to attack his own Cabinet official after warning of revolt if the investigations continue.

"I just don't think the people of this country are going to take it," he said. "Look, we also had a chance, but Bill Barr, the attorney general, didn't want to be impeached."

"He didn't want to get impeached. How do you not get impeached? You just sit back and relax and wait out for your term to end — and that's what he did. And it was a sad thing and a sad day for our country," he said.

"But you know what, had Bill Barr the courage, a lot of this could have been taken care of," Trump argued.

"I said, 'Look, get impeached. I went up at lot in the polls when I got impeached. You have to get impeached, maybe.' But he was so afraid of getting impeached he refused to do his job," Trump said.

Judge blasts ‘charlatan’ Trump after MAGA rioter Dustin Thompson convicted on all counts: report

    Department of Justice.

Capitol rioter Dustin Thompson was convicted on all counts after a jury rejected his argument attempting to blame former President Donald Trump for inciting his misconduct.

"Jan. 6 defendant Dustin Thompson GUILTY on all charges. including felony obstruction of Congress," Politico's Kyle Cheney reported.

Cheney said that Judge Reggie Walton went "on a tear about Jan. 6 and Trump" following the verdict.

"I think our democracy is in trouble because unfortunately we have charlatans like our former president who doesn't in my view really care about democracy but only about power," Walton said.

    Walton detained Thompson pending sentencing.

"If somebody is weak-minded enough to buy in on what was being said and then come all the way from Ohio … and even doing it gleefully, I just have my real concerns about him," the judge explained. "The inevitable reality is that whether he does time now or does time later, he’s got to do time," Walton said just before ordering him held.

Cheney noted this was the third conviction in a trial that has gone to a jury.

"Prosecutors are now three for three in Jan. 6 jury trials, winning convictions on every charge," Cheney reported. "They've had less success in two bench trials before Judge McFadden, who has been an outlier in these cases."

Sam Shamansky, Thompson's attorney, told MSNBC on Wednesday that Trump "cajoled, groomed and directed" the capitol rioters.

REVEALED: GOP lawmakers texted Mark Meadows constantly working to overturn Trump election loss

Two Republican lawmakers -- Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) -- exchanged more than 100 text messages with then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows aggressively pushing strategies to overturn Donald Trump's election loss.

The newly revealed texts show Lee and Roy pushed hard to challenge the former president's election loss through November but grew increasingly concerned about the tactics proposed by Trump's outside allies -- which Roy feared by the first day of 2021 was "driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic," reported CNN.

"The president should call everyone off," Roy texted to Meadows on Dec. 31, 2020. "It's the only path. If we substitute the will of states through electors with a vote by congress every 4 years... we have destroyed the electoral college... Respectfully."

But as early as Nov. 7, 2020, the day Joe Biden was projected as the election winner, both GOP lawmakers were fully on board with challenging the results, with Lee offering his "unequivocal support."

"This fight is about the fundamental fairness and integrity of our election system," Lee texted Meadows. "The nation is depending upon your continued resolve. Stay strong and keep fighting Mr. President."

    Roy was even more enthusiastic.

"We need ammo. We need fraud examples. We need it this weekend," Roy texted on Nov. 7, 2020.

GOP's Mike Lee pushed hard to connect Trump to Sidney Powell — and then she started talking

Newly revealed text messages show Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) were deeply involved in Donald Trump's efforts to challenge his election loss, until they got cold feet, and helped push attorney Sidney Powell into the president's orbit.

Lee lobbied then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to grant Powell access to the former president over a few days in mid-November 2020, starting the day that Joe Biden was projected as the election winner, reported CNN.

"Sydney Powell is saying that she needs to get in to see the president, but she's being kept away from him," Lee texted to Meadows on Nov. 7, 2020. "Apparently she has a strategy to keep things alive and put several states back in play. Can you help get her in?"

The Utah Republican passed along Powell's cell phone number and email address, and two days later followed up and praised the right-wing attorney as a "straight shooter."

However, that same day Roy expressed concerns about Trump's claims of fraud, saying the former president was close to crossing the line.

"We must urge the President to tone down the rhetoric," Roy texted Meadows on Nov. 9, "and approach the legal challenge firmly, intelligently and effectively without resorting to throwing wild desperate haymakers or whipping his base into a conspiracy frenzy."

By Nov. 19, 2020, the day of Powell's infamous news conference with Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis making wild claims of election influence by Venezuela and billionaire George Soros, the two lawmakers expressed concerns about the operation -- and the possibility of legal risk for the president.

"Hey brother - we need substance or people are going to break," Roy texted Meadows a few hours after the widely mocked news conference.

Lee agreed, telling Meadows two hours later that he was "worried" about what he had just witnessed, "Unless Powell can back up everything she said, which I kind of doubt she can."

Meadows agreed, saying he was "very concerned," and both Lee and Roy moved away from Powell's efforts and started promoting right-wing attorney John Eastman, who then authored a memo laying out a plan to disrupt the Jan. 6, 2021, congressional certification of the election that a judge recently described as a "coup" attempt.

"Have you talked to John Eastman?" Roy texted on Nov. 22, 2021. "Get Eastman to file in front of [Pennsylvania] board of elections ... Get data in front of public domain ... Frigging Rudy needs to hush."

One man that BLM denied having any connection to and suspected he was only showing up at their events as a plant and trouble maker.

How many would it take to convince you antifa members dressed as trump supporters participated in the January 6 riots?

How many would it take to make you wonder what was up with the FBI saying they had no evidence?

...Another activist Judge with an opinion....

After the verdict was announced Thursday, Senior U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ordered Thompson detained until sentencing.

“You make your bed, you lie in it,” Walton, a George W. Bush appointee,....“I think our democracy is in trouble because, unfortunately, we have charlatans like our former president who doesn’t, in my view, really care about democracy but only about power,” Walton said, according to Politico.

Walton also had harsh words for Thompson, describing him as “weak-minded,” “gullible,” and unable to tell the difference between Trump’s false claims of voter fraud and reality.

    ...then we have this...

Prosecutors have had somewhat less success in two bench trials, which are tried before a judge only. Matthew Martin, who testified that Jan. 6 was a “magical day,” was fully acquitted, and “Cowboys for Trump” founder Couy Griffin was convicted of a single misdemeanor and acquitted of another. Both cases were before U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee.

InfoWars' Alex Jones seeks immunity deal in exchange for testifying in Jan. 6 probe: NYT

InfoWars founder Alex Jones is reportedly seeking an immunity deal that would allow him to avoid being criminally prosecuted in exchange for telling federal prosecutors what he knows about the planning of the events that culminated in the January 6th riots at the United States Capitol building.

The New York Times reports that Jones is in "discussions with the Justice Department about an agreement to detail his role in the rally near the White House last Jan. 6 that preceded the attack on the Capitol."

Jones's attorney gave prosecutors a letter signed by Jones in which he expressed "his desire to speak to federal prosecutors about Jan. 6," although the attorney also insisted that Jones did nothing criminally wrong on that day.

Nevertheless, the attorney tells the Times that Jones is demanding immunity from prosecution because "he distrusts the government."

The Times notes that Jones's willingness to talk with prosecutors is a new sign that the federal probe into the January 6th riots is heating up.

"Two weeks ago, another prominent Stop the Steal organizer, Ali Alexander, a close associate of Mr. Jones, revealed that he had received a subpoena from a federal grand jury that is seeking information on a broad swath of people — rally planners, members of Congress and others close to former President Donald J. Trump — connected to political events that took place in the run-up to Jan. 6," the paper writes. "Mr. Alexander, who marched with Mr. Jones to the Capitol that day, has said that he intends to comply with the subpoena."
