  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was magnitude 8.9, which the agency labeled a “mega” quake. The tremor occurred at about 230 miles northeast of Tokyo and at a depth of about 15 miles.

The quake occurred at 2:46 p.m. Tokyo time and its location was off Honshu, Japan’s most populous island.

A tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Japan’s meteorological agency warned that a tsunami as high as 20 feet could strike the coast near Miyagi prefecture, closest to the epicenter.

The Associated Press reported that a large ship swept away by the tsunami rammed directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture, according to footage on public broadcaster NHK.

Yes, I can imagine that happening, like a `deer caught in the headlights':(
I don't think they had too much chance here, as it hid the coast, there are warnings for other countries too.

There are a lot of reasons people don't run away from danger. The first is probably the "fight or flight" syndrome, where an adrenaline rush can kick in and a person will run from danger or stand to face it. In its simplest form, you may witness it if somebody crosses the road and a vehicle is headed toward them. Some people "freeze" on the spot, and others move to safety.

The second reason is simply many people wouldn't know where to run to, which direction would be safer; left or right, north or south? The wrong choice might mean they don't actually get to safety anyway.

This is so awful. The death toll is going to be staggering. The rest of the Pacific looks like it will be hit also.

True, it will take days to find out the extent of casualties.

One thing that is good, those that will soon feel subsequent waves, have hours to prepare.:)

I can see this happening too. if view is blocked, and a 14ft wave stretches out for as far as the eye can see on both sides.

Japan's military I hear will be helping out soon, maybe US Pacific Fleet 7th? might offer some aid as well.

This is awful, but it doesn't look like the damage of an 8.9 earthquake....

Is this accurate? Are they just not showing city pictures yet?

It's a great tragedy, one wonders what will happen next?

Here in Australia there are already discussions in place about about the residents on all the thousands of islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Some of these islands are only just above sea level...time will tell.

Thanks for the map PP! It would seem that tsunami waves are still on the move,
jonsi: I got those two shots from the Net, as you can imagine, with the quake being less than 2hrs old, at this time, pictures are few.

BBC world news has some good coverage.

Eh? It will take a lot longer than that.

Well, it was a few hundred kilometers offshore so it's not so much the damage from ground movement that is the issue, but the tsunami created by extreme movement of the sea floor.

Japan gets a lot of quakes, and they are probably the best prepared for this, as much a country can be prepared.

    Very distressing indeed.

Indonesia,Hawaii,Australia,New Zealand,Taiwan,Mexico,Chilli,Peru,Russia,Quam..the list is growing all on Tsunami alert.

Just getting back the 1000's of islands dotted around the Pacific..who is telling them? How will they survive?A lot of those places are literally just 6 inches above hightide. There will be whole islands, populated that will just disappear......

Hi rich: calm down...but yes positive energies and prayers to those in Japan, and other countries that will be hit nest.:)

PP: Mexico, Chili? Yes, I might have missed that, but the patterns are circular, with energy dissipating radially from the epicentre
