'His Biden investigation has collapsed': James Comer ridiculed after begging for cash

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) is being ridiculed for a recent fundraising appeal claiming that they "hit a brick wall" with campaign cash.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) trolled the House Oversight and Reform Committee chair on Thursday by posting a screen capture of the email and pointing out Comer's continued failure to find information so he can impeach President Joe Biden.

"No sh_t," Swalwell said on social media. "How pathetic is this guy? His Biden investigation has collapsed and now he’s coming to me for money! Sorry, Comer Pyle!"

ALSO READ: ‘Abuse’: Politicians are fretting about AI stealing their faces and voices

The reference is to witnesses brought into the committee to testify over the past several weeks, who failed to deliver any information of financial impropriety from the president.

One witness, a friend of Hunter Biden's, revealed that his loans to the president's son came with restrictions and interest and were drafted by his lawyers. He told the committee he never got anything from the president due to the loans and never discussed the matter with him.

The elder Biden's bookkeeper, Eric Schwerin, testified that he saw every dollar that came and went out of President Biden's accounts, and not once did he see anything unusual.

"In fact," he continued, "I am not aware of any role that Vice President Biden, as a public official or as a private citizen, had in any of Hunter's business activities. None."

      Did you see?
The "do nothing" house impeached Mayorkis.

      Pretty good, eh?

Yeah @shootersa. Gotta admit. The house managed to get something done. They cheapened the act of impeachment. Good for them. I think they also renamed a post office, so, it can't be said they did nothing. They had to get that impeachment done the day before your boy george got replaced. It wouldn't have happened the next day.

You're the one claiming the house couldn't even pull off an impeachment, shooter merely pointed out that in fact they did "pull off an impeachment".

Oh, and your despicable talking point that they cheapened the impeachment process ignores what your handlers did to it with trump.

      No matter. Youve been exposed.

At the time of my post, as I know you are aware, the house had been unable to pull off the impeachment of a cabinet member. Again, as you are aware, they did it by one single vote, on the last day they would have had that single vote "majority"
Oh, and with0ut diverting the issue to the two trump impeachments, there were no high crimes or misdemeanors committed by Mayorkas, as we will see when the senate holds its trial.
      oooooo, I've been exposed....

Everyone knows the despicables in the senate won't let Mayorkas be convicted.
      Not the point is it?

Just like everyone knew deplorables wouldn't let trump be convicted.
      Twice. High crimes and misdemeanors?
What a despicable does is politics
What a deplorable does is criminal.

So yeah, despicables lowered the bar on impeachment all the way down into the DC swamp muck.
      And deplorables stepped over it.

But its the deplorables you shout at from your high low moral ground.

House GOP Members Tell CNN Effort to Impeach Biden Is a ‘Jumbled Mess’: ‘I Spend Zero Time on This’
    Jamie FreveleFeb 2nd, 2024, 2:29 pm

The flailing effort by House Republicans to impeach President Joe Biden was confirmed to be flailing by CNN’s Melanie Zanona and Annie Grayer.

In a new report out Friday, Zanona and Grayer spoke to several House Republicans who painted a picture of the evidence-free push to impeach Biden as “a jumbled mess,” according to one of those Republicans who was not named. But some of them did speak on the record and offered little to no support for the effort.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), who serves on the House Oversight Committee and supports impeachment told CNN: “While I think that it’s pretty clear, I don’t know that the case has been made adequately to the American people.”

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) also had a diplomatic view of the issue: “Let the American people decide in November if they want to take this country in a different direction. I think that’s probably most likely, considering the politics of the Senate.”

Malliotakis is referring to the Democratic majority in the Senate which would likely not find Biden guilty, even if the Republican-led House voted to impeach him. This is also something Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chair of the House Oversight Committee who is leading the impeachment charge, admitted last month: “I would vote to impeach him, but I’m not going to lose any sleep whether he gets impeached or not because we know the Senate’s not going to convict.”

That may be why several House Republicans — at least 20 of them, according to Zanona and Grayer — are less than enthusiastic about the investigation that was opened in December:

GOP Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, who is not on any of the committees conducting the probe, told CNN, “I have seen nothing. I really see nothing. I know what people say. And I watch the news,” when asked if any evidence uncovered by the committees rose to the level of impeachment.

GOP Rep. David Schweikert, who represents an Arizona district Biden won in 2020, said, “When the report is done, I’ll read it.”

Another swing district Republican, Rep. Mike Garcia of California, who is waiting to see what the committees produce before making a final judgment, told CNN that when the committee chairs leading the investigation presented to a subsection of the conference this week they each gave updates on their work, but none said explicitly they had evidence of an impeachable offense. …

“Nobody is talking about that,” said GOP Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington state, when asked for his thoughts on the Biden impeachment inquiry.

Another swing district Republican, Rep. David Valadao of California, said: “I spend zero time on this.”

CNN anchor Dana Bash covered the report on Friday, kicking the segment off by quoting the unnamed Republican who called the impeachment push “a jumbled mess.” That source also told CNN: “You’d be hard-pressed to say it’s going well.”

Biden camp reportedly fears photos from special counsel classified docs probe could devastate reelection bid
Special Counsel Robert Hur could release report in Biden classified docs case as soon as this week.
Danielle Wallace Fox News Read full story here.

President Biden's team reportedly is fearing that photos included in Special Counsel Robert Hur's imminent report on the handling of classified documents could impact his 2024 reelection bid.

Axios reported that Biden's aides do not expect criminal charges as a result of the investigation, but they are concerned about potentially embarrassing photos included in Hur's expected report that could be released as soon as this week. The images could show how Biden stored classified materials, which were discovered in late 2022 in the garage of Biden's Delaware home as well as in a private office. The classified documents were carried over from Biden's time as former President Obama's vice president.

Biden's aides told Axios that they are fearful former President Trump's campaign could use the photos against the Democrat incumbent ahead of their likely 2024 rematch.

GOP lawmaker concedes House Republicans 'don't have the votes right now' to impeach Biden
    Brent D. Griffiths

Republican lawmakers are reportedly souring on the prospects of impeaching President leaving the page." data-wf-tooltip-position="bottom" data-wf-reset-every="90">Joe Biden after months of investigations.

"We don't have the votes right now," one GOP lawmaker told CNN.

CNN reported that no major decision is expected before Hunter Biden and James Biden sit for their depositions. Nonetheless, there is a growing sense in the Capitol that Republicans might not be able to ram through an impeachment given their razor-thin majority.

Lawmakers haven't produced direct evidence of President Joe Biden's wrongdoing. One of the GOP's marquee witnesses, George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, also stated that "the current evidence" did not support Biden's impeachment.

House conservatives would face a clear political risk if they failed to impeach Biden, something former President Donald Trump has long sought. Republicans would also be put in the potentially odd position of effectively declaring Biden had not met the threshold for wrongdoing despite top officials pushing such a narrative for months.

Some lawmakers told CNN they are still waiting to see what final report the committees leading the investigations into the Bidens produce. In December, lawmakers formally deemed the separate investigations an "impeachment inquiry" on a party-line vote. The House Judiciary, Ways & Means, and Oversight Committees are all part of the sprawling probe.

"I have seen nothing. I really see nothing. I know what people say. And I watch the news," Rep. Mike Kelly, a Pennsylvania Republican, told CNN.

Top Democrat raises questions over key witness in the GOP impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden

The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, raised serious questions about a key witness in the impeachment inquiry of President leaving the page." data-wf-tooltip-position="bottom" data-wf-reset-every="90">Joe Biden in a letter to Oversight Chairman James Comer provided first to CNN.

Raskin wrote that Tony Bobulinski, a business associate of the Biden family who is expected to be interviewed on Tuesday as part of the Republican-led investigation, presents “giant red flags” and called on Comer to bring in other Trump administration and campaign officials to corroborate any testimony he provides.

Bobulinski alleged in the leadup to the 2020 presidential election that Joe Biden profited from his son’s business deals, which former President Donald Trump and his allies seized on. In the letter, Raskin asks Comer to bring in some of those allies for interviews, including Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump White House lawyer Eric Herschmann and Trump advisers Arthur Schwartz and Jason Miller.

But other witnesses close to Bobulinski and the Biden family have refuted Bobulinski’s claims. Biden business associate Rob Walker told the FBI in 2020 that Bobulinski’s claims about Joe Biden’s involvement was “wishful thinking” and agreed with agents who comparied Bobulinski’s claims to “unicorns and rainbows.” Walker recently testified to House Republicans that Joe Biden “while in office or as a private citizen, was never involved in any business activities we pursued,” according to excerpts of his testimony provided to CNN.

Another associate to the Biden family, James Gillar, who was on an email chain Bobulinski was using as evidence, told the Wall Street Journal when Bobulinski’s allegations were made, “I am unaware of any involvement at any time of the former vice president.”

Raskin also raised issue with Bobulinski’s lack of cooperation with Democrats on the Oversight Committee, and questioned the materials he turned over as “cherry-picked and selective information.”

A House Oversight Committee spokesperson told CNN that Raskin’s concerns about Bobulinski are “beyond parody” and accused Democrats of “engaging in witness intimidation.”

CNN has reached out to Bobulinski for response to Raskin’s letter.

Comer meanwhile has praised Bobulinski and described him as “of all of the guys that were involved in the Hunter Biden orbit, Tony Bobulinski appears to me to be the one solid guy that tried to do the right thing and was honest.” The committee requested to speak with Bobulinski to learn about what “firsthand knowledge” he had.

Raskin’s letter to Comer comes shortly after House Oversight Democrats released a new memo that shows none of the last seven witnesses interviewed as part of Republican’s impeachment inquiry have said there was any evidence of wrongdoing by the president. The report includes excerpts from each interview and offers a serious blow to Republicans who have been struggling to build momentum on their inquiry and openly questioning whether it will result in impeachment.

“Each witness stated they were not aware of any evidence of any wrongdoing by President Biden or of President Biden being involved in, profiting from, or taking official actions in relation to family members’ business ventures” the report from Democratic staff reads.

“Further, not one of these witnesses indicated they ever had any expectation of receiving or ever did receive any political favors from President Biden or his Administration.”

GOP's star witness in Biden impeachment probe linked to Russian oligarch: report

The House GOP’s star witness in the Oversight Committee’s investigation into Hunter Biden turns out to be connected to a Russian oligarch, The Daily Beast reported Tuesday.

High-profile investor Tony Bobulinski has links to Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, a Ukrainian-born energy magnate who’s been a longtime close ally of Vladimir Putin’s, according to the report.

"In 2017, Vekselberg reportedly funneled $500,000 to an LLC run by Donald Trump’s former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, supposedly with the intention of influencing the new administration to let Russia illegally occupy parts of Eastern Ukraine," The Beast's report stated.

Also read: 'My father was a slave': White Republican makes startling declaration at NAACP event

Vekselberg has been sanctioned more than once by U.S. law enforcement in regards to Russia's attempts to influence the 2016 election and the nation's aggression towards Ukraine, but Republicans are trying to ignore his links to Bobulinski.

On Tuesday, Bobulinski will appear for a private interview with the House panel looking into impeaching President Joe Biden. The Daily Beast reported that he's expected to say some of the money from a business deal with a Chinese energy project that involved Hunter Biden made its way to the then vice president.

"What Bobulinski seems less inclined to discuss — given his failure to respond to repeated inquiries for this story — are his past connections to Vekselberg, a prominent Russian oligarch who sought repeatedly to influence Trump’s administration, including with payments to promote a proposal that would allow the Kremlin to retain control of the illegally occupied Crimean peninsula," The Beast reported.

'Can someone check on Comer?' Internet mocks GOP after Biden witness charged with lying

    Sarah K. Burris

The internet is in an uproar over the revelations that a top GOP witness lied under oath.

A vital informant of the FBI's investigations into Joe Biden's son Hunter is being charged by a grand jury with lying under oath in the investigation. It doesn't bode well for the ongoing attacks on the Bidens from Republicans.

Alexander Smirnov, who was identified as a confidential human source in the investigation, was arrested in Las Vegas, a Justice Department statement said on Thursday. He had alleged that executives at the Ukrainian company Burisma claimed they only hired Hunter Biden to "protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems," while Biden was vice president.

The release said that Smirnov was changing his stories after the fact.

The internet rushed to point out the findings and how it will impact the Republican attempts to bring down Biden through impeachment.

"This person was just indicted for making false statements. Any comment?" asked national security attorney Bradley Moss.

"I am confident - I am CERTAIN - that we will hear a measured, objective and humble commentary from @seanhannity tonight responding to this indictment. Positive. No doubts," Moss continued, his post dripping with sarcasm.

Media Matters fellow Matthew Gertz also pointed out that Fox reported the lies.

"Sean Hannity's Fox News show ran with this informant's claims in at least 85 separate segments last year, including 28 monologues," he said. "He said they proved Joe Biden engaged in 'public corruption on a scale this country has never seen before.'"

Dr. Mary Trump, Ph.D., the niece of former President Donald Trump asked, "Can someone check on [Rep. James] Comer (R-KY) to see if he's ok?"

Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson agreed the House Oversight and Reform Committee chairman would be the one hardest hit by the news.

"Slow Jim Comer hardest hit," he said.

Former Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas noted that, since he came forward about the Giuliani scheme to bring down Biden, he's known that the $5 million bribe from Burisma was a lie.

"Absolute f---ng clown car of stupid," quipped University of Texas School of Law professor Lee Kovarsky.

"My favorite part of the breaking news about the FBI informant getting arrested today is that it was all done by the Special Counsel the Republicans demanded to investigate Hunter Biden. They literally beat the DOJ into submission and the guy is dismantling their entire case," noted Fred Wellman of MeidasTouch.

"I’d say this is a BFD, no? Once again, major parts of the Hunter Biden case falling apart due to lies by alleged 'witness'/'informants.'" said ex-Republican and Lincoln Project podcast host Tara Setmayer.

Special Counsel Hur in ‘Final Talks’ to Testify on Biden’s ‘Poor’ Memory

    Steve Ruark, File/AP
    15 Feb 2024

Special Counsel Robert Hur is reportedly in “final talks” to testify before the House Impeachment Inquiry about his report on President Joe Biden’s taking of classified documents, which described the president as an “elderly man with a poor memory.”

House Democrats do not want Hur to answer questions about Biden’s fitness for office.

Hur described Biden as not competent to stand trial for taking classified documents. Hur said Biden could not remember simple facts about his life, such as when he was vice president or when his son Beau died.

The White House and congressional Democrats have worked hard to diminish Hur’s findings. Biden’s White House counsel claimed the report’s characterization of the president’s memory was “gratuitous” and “politically motivated” — essentially inaccurate.

Despite the Democrats’ efforts to limit the political damage, a person familiar with Hur’s intentions told Axios that “Hur already is thinking about his testimony and has reached out to former Justice Department colleagues to potentially help him prepare.”

The hearing could focus on three subjects:

    1. The national security implications of Biden’s handling of classified documents
    2. Biden’s cognition and fitness for office
    3. The Justice Department’s scope of the deposition
The third point is of particular interest because Biden slammed Hur in a press conference last week for questioning him about Beau’s death, but an NBC News report on Thursday said Hur did not question Biden about the timing of his son Beau’s death.

Instead, the president brought up the subject himself during his interview, the report detailed.

The dispute increases pressure on Biden to permit his Justice Department to release the transcript and audio of his interview.

It appears any denial of the report’s findings would necessitate releasing the deposition’s audio and an unredacted transcript. White House spokesman Ian Sams said Friday that Biden would “look at” disclosing a redacted transcript.

National security experts who spoke anonymously with the Hill claimed it could take more than 14 days to go through the declassification process. Biden, however, has the power to immediately declassify the material.

Polling shows about one-third of Democrats doubt Biden’s mental fitness. A whopping 82 percent of Americans harbor concerns about his physical and mental health, another poll revealed.
