WRONG! That is a common ploy by criminals and predators (of which I am not saying he is either), yet he and his attorneys and the congressmen should know well. Force a victim of assault to sit there as the defendant glares at them... KNOWING that not everyone, especially victims of sexual assault can maintain the spine they had to fight to get to simply make the accusation. Essentially, with the berating from counsel that typically happens, along with threatening glares, they know these women typically buckle and give up instead of fight for what is right.

This is one subject that you, as a man that presumably has never been sexually assaulted, cannot speak to with any authority whatsoever.

Young women in high school have trouble asserting themselves on a daily basis for any number of reasons, never mind disclosing a sexual assault by a boy or boys from one of the toniest schools in all of DC.

Some of the reasons why women don't report? Shame, denial, minimization, fear of consequences/repercussions, low self-esteem, feelings of helplessness in the face of a prosecution, just to name a few. In general, women tend to avoid, deny/downplay the event, ignore, try to forget, or just endure the trauma. There are many very good journal articles and papers on the subject. If you'd like, I'll link you to a few.

But please let's remember, she did report. She told her friends at the time, she told her husband and her therapist. Her choice not to speak to the authorities at the time or at any other time is a perfectly valid one. It's her trauma, and she's dealt with it as best she can. We all do.

I will say again, I don’t find anything the slightest bit surprising that a SCOTUS nomination was the thing that propelled a traumatized woman to speak about her experience. If/when confirmed, he'll be one of the 9 most powerful arbiters in your country. If I'd sat with it underneath me for that long and in the face of that situation, it may have been the same impetus for me. I get why she was silent, and I get why she's speaking now.

Women often convince themselves that they are the only victim of the perpetrator as a result of the isolation they feel in the aftermath of the event. When they hear other stories, they understand they are not alone, but until that moment, they feel very much like they are the only victim, and that no-one would understand their situation. Hers is the first story.

Will there be others? Could be. Perhaps there will not be. Perhaps he scared the shit out of himself and has never laid another hand on another person in anything but amity or consensual desire.

It doesn't invalidate her story.

And as much as you want to crow about the mishandling of the whole situation - Feinstein included, in my estimation, the whole thing is just a debacle - and how this will hurt the Dems in the midterms, remember: the women and the men that support them are watching. And they'll remember. Treatment with decency and understanding should be the foundation for any inquiry of this sort.

And it needs to be noted the FBI is also investigating death threats to Kananaugh's wife. And I don't care who it is or what side anyone making death threats belongs in jail. And since these must be really stupid people that's probably where they will end up because any fool can see the FBI is really good at tracking people making death threats down and charging them. There are multiple recent examples of them doing just that.

 

Well another deadline has come and past with regards to Ford confirming she will testify next week.

She can't give an exact time or place.
The women I know who have been abused/ raped can cite the date time, place, and what happened.
And why do the democrats want Cavanaugh to testify first? Doesnt the accuser go first, so the accused will know what hes beiing accued of. When i was in law school the state always presented it's case first. Innocent until proven guilty. Having the accused go first turns it into guilty until proven innocent.
