I've got to say, I didn't even consider what you said in that post... good point. For those of you who said something about other people being on Earth when Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, I suggest you read the Bible instead of quoting something you heard from the History Channel.

 

Exactly? Do me a favor before you post a message in reply to this one, actually read the book of Genesis, the whole thing, not just a few chapters.

Why is it nessicary for people to bitch about religion all of a sudden. Please stop all of the God threads, all they do is tear people apart.

 

If people were really convicted in their beliefs, than these threads wouldn't bother them any.

The original poster did not invoke the Bible. She merely said the first people on the planet were forced to commit incest out of necessity. The rest of you have assumed she was using the Bible as her factual basis, when in fact there are all sorts of creation myths from all corners of the world.

However, she did make the bold assumption that the human race started with two people. The fact is, science has yet to prove how life originated. For all we know, Earth was seeded by aliens. And entire continents could have been seeded at the same time. After all, who was here to observe creation and who could write it down?

Relying on a document created of writings by people whose view of the universe was wrong, and the consensus of a group of men who wanted to impose their will on society to determine which books should even be in the Bible, is pretty stupid. Organized religion is more about control than it is about morality. Witness priests who molest children, and some Muslims who believe killing infidels is OK.

Much of the Bible, especially Leviticus, was written to outline for people what made sense given their knowledge at the time. They knew that eating pork could be bad for you, so they banned it. Now we have a whole class of people who won't eat pork even though we now know how to cure it and cook it to avoid disease. They knew that incest could lead to deformities, so they banned it, since they did not have the birth control methods that we have today. They knew that diseases could be transmitted sexually, so they discouraged promiscuity. Today most can be treated and we have ways of providing some measure of protection. And so on...

You don't have to believe in God to know that we have brains that can solve problems and deduce for ourselves what is right and wrong. We instinctively know that consensual sex ought to be something dealt with by the people and families involved, not the government, that condoms are a good thing to use with people you don't know, and that incest is sooner or later, probably gonna get you in trouble with the law, whether you think it's fair or not. We have the power to keep ourselves out of trouble if we would just apply some brainpower to the problem.

What is right for some is wrong for others. Just use your damn brain once in a while.
