Man twice bailed out by Kamala Harris-backed fund — gets arrested again

A Minnesota man twice bailed out by a Vice President Kamala Harris-backed nonprofit group has been busted a third time on felony drug charges, authorities said.

Thomas Moseley’s latest collar stems from his arrest on Oct. 15, 2020, when he was picked up at a George Floyd-related protest and charged with damaging the Minneapolis Police Department’s Fifth Precinct months earlier, WCCO-TV reported.

Police found a handgun in his waistband and charged him with possession of a dangerous weapon.

Moseley, 29, of Minneapolis, was also busted on rioting charges from a Dec. 31, 2020, demonstration.

In both cases, he was freed with the help of the Minnesota Freedom Fund — which fronted his $5,000 bail in the October case and $60,000 in the December case, Fox News reported, citing a criminal complaint.

Established in 2016, the fund has vowed to put up cash to help protesters get released from jail, though it faced extreme scrutiny over the summer after admitting it had only spent $200,000 in bail money — despite being flooded with more than $30 million in donations.

In June, Harris pushed for contributions to the nonprofit.

“If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota,” she wrote.

Moseley’s most recent case is related to his October arrest. During a search of his pickup truck, police found a cache of weapons — “three handguns, a shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle as well as a panel for stopping bullets in a bullet-proof vest, a gas mask and about 50 bullets,” according to prosecutors.

They also found marijuana, cocaine and psychotropic mushrooms resulting in his most recent arrest on three felony counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.

Bail in the drug case was set at $250,000. Hennepin County Jail records show that Moseley remains in custody.

He is also under investigation on suspicion he used a straw buyer to buy a semiautomatic weapon on Jan. 7 and Jan. 12 — with jail records showing he’d just been released from prison on Jan. 5, Fox News said.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund has bailed out other defendants on violent crimes, according to an August report from Fox 9.

A bail fund promoted by Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris and many staffers on Joe Biden's campaign helped release an accused child abuser, documents obtained by Fox News indicate.

Timothy Wayne Columbus, a 36-year-old-man, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly penetrating a girl in 2015 when she was about 8 years old. A warrant was issued for his arrest on June 25. But he was later bailed out of jail and according to a court document, filed to have his bail money returned to Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF), the organization Harris and many Biden staffers asked their followers to donate to during the rioting in Minneapolis earlier this year.

So, when Kamala Harris announced her presidential run, and later when she was picked as Biden's replacement (or biden was picked as her trail cutter, take your pick) the black community of course hopped on board. But, there's a price, you know, for that support. And the bill is coming due.

Late last week, the Black to the Future Action Fund released its “Black mandate for the Biden-Harris administration" — also known as the Build Back Bolder plan, which is not to be confused with the administration's own Build Back Better plan. (Clever or confusing? You be the judge.)

Unlike political novice Ice Cube and his Contract With Black America, this plan is being shepherded by the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Global Network, Alicia Garza — a Californian who actually has some standing to speak to presidential administrations on behalf of Black people.

The plan's other prominent backers include the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Rev. William Barber II of the Poor People's Campaign, as well as several of the activists who helped flip Georgia blue in the last election, including LaTosha Brown of Black Voters Matter, Nsé Ufot of the New Georgia Project and Deborah Scott of Georgia STAND UP.

Together, they held an online launch event for the Build Back Bolder plan on Friday.

"America has consistently failed to deliver on its promise to Black communities," Garza said. "But when we are focused, when we are organized, when we are determined, Black America has been successful in delivering on our promise to not rest until freedom comes. We pushed the Biden-Harris campaign to victory, not for them, but ... for us because we can't wait any longer."

So anyway, here's the first part of what the black community expects going forward;

Put cash directly into the hands of people — $2,000 a month until the economy recovers from the pandemic.

Cancel rent, mortgages and evictions, as well as bills for public utilities and internet access.

Eliminate zero-tolerance policies and ban the presence of police in schools.

Enact universal "family care social insurance policies" to ensure paid leave and access to affordable healthcare, including child care and long-term care.

Fully fund the Department of Housing and Urban Development's budgets for public housing and Section 8 vouchers.
