  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

The LHC is looking for many things, it's a pitty that the whole black hole thing got blown out of proportion and distracted people from that which is really interesting. It could/should have been an opportunity to get people more interested in physics which has become something of a neglected subject of late.

The Higgs boson is something which, as a 3rd year undergraduate, I'm getting slightly tired of hearing about, but if it is found it will confirm a theory which has been around since the 1970s, and we will have found what is believed to give everything else mass. If it isn't found then we will have to do some serious re-thinking.

They are also looking for evidence of the unification of the four fundamental forces (strong nuclear, weak nuclear, electromagnetic and gravity) at the high energies attainable which will be similar to conditions in the early universe and may make/break our GUTs (Grand Unified Theories) and may provide clues about the direction we should take to find a TOE (Theory Of Everything).

I could go on, but it's 2.30am and I have to get some sleep sometime.

Thought it might be interesting to update this thread because a year after repairing the Large Hadron Collider the folks at CERN are at again. This time claiming to have actually captured atoms of antimatter and held them for at least a fraction of a second.

What's significant about that is according to Physicist Michio Kaku, if we could manipulate anti matter we could harness it as the perfect rocket fuel for space exploration.

Other physicists however point out that capturing 38 atoms of antimatter for a fraction of a second is not something to hold your breath about waiting for it to turn into rocket fuel.

But still there seems to be some simply amazing discoveries coming out of the LHC, and they seem to be coming at a record pace. Although I admit I don't think they've discovered the God particle yet. But antimatter is cool.
