My fiancée and I are starting to plain our wedding. I know that some of you on here are married, and I was just wondering if any of you would like to share some good things about your wedding, or maybe things you would have changed. Also, what tips would you give about having a long and happy marriage?

you may not be into this, but i had a christmas wedding. all the lights and stuff made it gorgeous. and i got some of the prettiest most awesome pics.

as far as tips. share everything. keep no secrets. that's what keeps our love going strong. we are completely open with eachother.

but from reading both of ya'lls posts you seem to have a good relationship. so keep it up!

I'll give you some advice that I wish I had taken. When hiring a photographer, make sure you've seen his work. I let my husband talk me into letting a friend of his do our photos. He talked him up and said he did lots of photos of other weddings. I was very disappointed when we got our pictures. They were horrible.

 

definitely! same thing happend with my cake! it was horrible. supposed to be snowflakes on it, looked like cracked out birds! get recomendations if you can't see they're work! don't be another victim!

oh and keep a sewing kit handy! we had to sew my sis/maid of honor into her dress because the zipper broke! so cliche'! but it happens!

 

For what it's worth... our wedding day didn't go so smooth. Limos came an hour late which pushed back our wedding mass with a church full of family and friends.
And we spent our first night together at the airport hotel hoping to catch a flight into Miami to catch a cruise. Well after a night of wild sex we had a little trouble waking up so early. We just missed the 1st flight and ended up spending the first day & night in airports. Eventually missing the cruise. However, we met about 4 other couples in the same boat as us. The next day they flew us out to the boat and all was fine.
And that was 18yrs ago. We are still rocking the boat.
My point is— don't sweat the small things, it all works out.

well we got married at the spur of the moment and spent a total of oh $200 for everything and i really liked it because we used the rest of the money we had to go on a really really nice honeymoon

and my tip is communication...it is the key to a long and happy marriage

 

oh! one last time. i promise. i wrote my hubby a really sweet poem and had my sis give it to him right before the ceremony. he was touched. it was just a nice little touch to a very special day!

 

Do:
Get plenty of rest
Give yourself plenty of time
Make sure everyone knows the entire plan
Do not work the day before the wedding
Make sure you like everything about your outfit, cake, anything....
Just enjoy yourself.

Don't:
Delegate jobs to unworthy people
Rely on some elses word on anything
Leave food up to the caterer
Get married on the hottest day of the year in a building with no air conditioner

My wedding was a complete nightmare, my family was all from out of state so we got lost on the way to the chapel, it rained INSIDE the building, my ugly assed shoes didn't fit, my maid of honor got into a screaming match with the best man DURING the vows, I was having a hangover from sleeping pills and alcohol, my birth mother kept insulting my birth father, both of my mothers fought over how to do my hair and I was half bald by the time they agreed, I had food poisoning from work and nearly passed out on the way to the limo.

After all that, it was great. My husband and I got into the limo and it was nice and cool, the driver drove around for an hour so we could just be together with no one else. My parents think we consumated our marriage right before we went to dinner, it was in the back of that limo. Despite the horrific wedding, I would do it all again for him. Just plan it better this time.

 

Lol, that is like something from a comedy movie or something.

The best was Jim's father's explanation of marriage on American Wedding. Where he's like, "Marriage is the test too see how long you can go with out having sex."

But, all jokes aside, Marriage is, hopefully, a one time thing, so you shouldn't be afraid to be really picky or whatever, and not be too nervous but just have a great time.

Truer words never were spoken, we were a 3 times a day couple... now it's getting to 3 times a year. We have only been married for 2 years. **beats head against keyboard** I am the one who is supposed to have the headache, not him!

 

I agree 100%, thats 1 thing my wife both agreed on the day we said "I DO". To this day we still talk about everything.

i agree with this completely even if me and my husband are up until the wee hours of the morning talking about the fight we had we do not go to bed mad at each other

because if you go to bed mad 9 times out of 10 you're going to wake up mad and it'll get worse

 

got married in mexico...moon palace..worth a look paradise. make sure you go away for unexpected weekends this rekindles the spark

 

Congratulatons In Excelsis!

All of the previous advice is excellent and I used much of it myself. My first wedding was in our Lutheran Church, and my divorced mother and father, youngest sister, mom & dad's spouses were there as well as my bride's mom and dad. Got losts of nice pix which I have put on the computer and look at now and then. Spent our honeymoon in Bastrop State Park, near Austin, Tx in one of the dozen or so cabins they rent out be the week.

It lasted 23years.The sex thing, it was every day or more.The last few years once a week. What a bummer.

My third marriage was like sex 3 times a day for an hour or two, until it became income tax and her income taxes took priority over me. We had to wait 2 weeks for our times off work together for the honeymoon. Great. St. George Utah, we got in late around 8PM got a VIP pass from the hotel, and the manager said we could go into the pool which was closed earlier, so we had this dimly pool all to ourselves. Then we went to Bryce Canyon where she gave me a blowjob at Pirates Cove. Then Cedar Breaks another one there, and I almost got caught prancing around nude. What great fun times we had.

When she had me move in with her, I vowed to myself that I WOULD NEVER ARGUE WITH HER. Since she is Italian and loves to argue (for fun, I think) it was sometimes difficult. I still won't argue with her to this day.

The worst disagreement we ever had was when we were going to Catalina Island, and I wanted to go through LA, (I was driving), she insisted we go south down I15 to a turnoff east of Long Beach. I gave in, and later conceded that she was right. Catalina was nice too, but for some Godforsaken reason we never made love that week. Disappointed me and likely her too.

Last year we went to Sedona, good sex, but absolutely busy from 7am to 9pm seeing everything. Still wouldn't trade it either.

We have been living separately since May 2000.

I definately second the need for a quality photographer. We got a bargin and had better shots from friends than the photographer.
Something to keep in mind after many months of planning it goes by in an instant. Make sure to take the time to enjoy some of it.

 

Married for 17 years now - it just keeps getting better and better - biggest tip - don't go to sleep on an argument - clear the air first so that it doesn't fester overnight. Be prepared to compromise
