I just find this headline hilarious because so many conservative/Republican/Tea Baggers hated Nancy Pelosi so bad and they had a very good reason for it. She had more balls than any other member of congress and she could deliver the votes.

So how's old Cryin' John working out for the Republicans as Speaker of the House. Well if you've been paying attention he ain't. He's getting run over rough shod by the Tea Party faction which of all things is now taking credit for forcing a government shut down.

Which is about as hilarious as Hamas taking credit today for one of their rockets hitting and Israeli school bus. Not the kind of thing you really want credit for I don't think. But here's Crying John Boehner.

CBO: Budget deal cuts 2011 deficit by $352 million, not $38 billion promised

'Budget cuts' may even amount to $3.3 billion increase

WASHINGTON – The budget deal struck last Friday to avert a government shutdown cuts the fiscal 2011 deficit by just $352 million, not the $38 billion touted by both parties, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

A CBO analysis found Wednesday that the measure negotiated by President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to fund the government through September would yield less than one-100th of the deficit savings touted.

The study confirms that the resolution cuts federal spending authority by $38 billion, but concludes that most of the money was unlikely to be spent anyway.

The CBO figure was achieved after clearing the smoke in mirrors, by adjusting for savings that are likely to occur in a future year, spending increases elsewhere in the budget, and the hike in the military budget.
When factoring in war funding, the analysis found that the legislation could even increase total federal outlays by $3.3 billion from 2010 levels.

Pandemonium! Dems Jam Republicans With Even More Conservative Budget

What was supposed to be a routine vote in the House -- to knock down an amendment authored by conservative Republicans -- turned into pandemonium on the House floor Friday, as Democrats tried to jam the plan through, and hang it around the GOP's necks.

The vote was on the Republican Study Committee's alternative budget -- a radical plan that annihilates the social contract in America by putting the GOP budget on steroids. Deeper tax cuts for the wealthy, more severe entitlement rollbacks.

Normally something like that would fail by a large bipartisan margin in either the House or the Senate. Conservative Republicans would vote for it, but it would be defeated by a coalition of Democrats and more moderate Republicans. But today that formula didn't hold. In an attempt to highlight deep divides in the Republican caucus. Dems switched their votes -- from "no" to "present."

Panic ensued. In the House, legislation passes by a simple majority of members voting. The Dems took themselves out of the equation, leaving Republicans to decide whether the House should adopt the more-conservative RSC budget instead of the one authored by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. As Dems flipped to present, Republicans realized that a majority of their members had indeed gone on the record in support of the RSC plan -- and if the vote closed, it would pass. That would be a slap in the face to Ryan, and a politically toxic outcome for the Republican party.

So they started flipping their votes from "yes" to "no."
In the end, the plan went down by a small margin, 119-136. A full 172 Democrats voted "present."

Ominous Dem video says GOP lied about protecting Medicare

WASHINGTON – Democrats are revving up their campaign to portray Republicans as having voted to "end Medicare," aiming to channel public support for the program into a 2012 issue.

A new 80-second spot by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee features ominous music and scared-looking seniors in front of a dark backdrop. It compiles footage of Republicans promising last fall to protect Medicare, and cites their votes in favor of the GOP budget blueprint that passed the House two Fridays ago.

"They lied," the video declares.

The video reminds voters that Republicans campaigned last fall in part against the Medicare cuts (that didn't affect benefits) in the Affordable Care Act. "I'll never put our seniors' future at risk," said freshman Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO). "No cuts, no privatization, and no scaring our seniors."

The spot also zeros in on campaign-era remarks by freshman Reps. Dan Benishek (R-MI) and Renee Ellmers (R-NC). "Social Security and Medicare are a promise we made to our seniors, and I will keep that promise," Benishek said.

The Republican plan, drafted by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), would restructure the single-payer health insurance program into a sort of voucher system. Medicare would remain intact for ten years, but Americans who turn 65 after 2021 would not be allowed to enroll in program as it exists, and would instead be given subsidies to buy private insurance. The value of the vouchers is expected to erode

All but four House Republicans voted for the plan, which failed to get a single Democratic vote.

The DCCC wasn't fazed by a dust-up with the nonpartisan fact-checking website PolitiFact, which last week took on its prior ad claiming Republicans "voted to end Medicare," rating it untrue.

A spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee did not immediately return a request for comment.

Me too...and it's funny watching Republicans at town-hall meetings trying to explain away their vote on the Ryan budget bill...which anyone with half a brain can see would end Medicare as we know it in ten years. But still they try to deny it.

I tell you Kimi this is more than hilarity and more than hypocrisy. This is conservative/Republican/Tea Bagger insanity and the blatant attempt to throw senior citizens and the poor to the same health insurance wolves who actually created out medical crisis in the first place.

Medical costs are already rising faster than any other expense and the leading cause of personal bankruptcy and they are brazen liars enough to stand there and claim Medical costs will go down if we just give the insurance companies more tax money?

Survey Shows Protecting Children’s Programs in the Federal Budget is Voters’ Top Priority

Washington D.C. – A poll released today reveals strong public support for protecting federal investments that benefit children. In a battery of survey questions identifying a series of potential cuts that Congress may consider in the broader budget debate, the survey finds that voters are more likely to hold harmless programs affecting kids than any other programs on the chopping block.

Furthermore, results from the survey reveal cuts to programs affecting kids prove just as unpopular as cuts affecting seniors. In fact, voters are as likely to oppose reductions in Medicaid as in Medicare. Voters also are more concerned about protecting children’s programs than a variety of other federal programs, such as transportation funding for highway construction, national defense, and medical and scientific research.

“The American people are sending a message that is loud and clear: don't cut kids,” said Bruce Lesley, President of First Focus, the bipartisan child advocacy organization that commissioned the survey. “Many recent spending proposals have sacrificed the needs of children in order to protect the interests of others. However, results from this survey prove that protecting programs that improve the well-being of children is immensely important to voters. We urge policymakers to heed the priorities of their constituents by holding children harmless as they work to find solutions to our nation’s budget challenges.”

Key findings from the survey include:

• Voters believe children in America fare poorly. By a margin of 58-20 percent, or by almost a 3:1 margin, a majority of voters believe that the lives of children in America have gotten worse rather than better in the last ten years, including a quarter (26 percent) who believe children’s lives have gotten much worse. Republican voters are the most concerned, as they believe the lives of children are worse by a margin of 62-16 percent, an almost 4:1 margin.

• Children’s programs are most important to voters relative to other potential program cuts. When provided a battery of potential cuts some have considered in the budget debate, voters clearly protect children. In fact, the least popular cuts all directly affect children, including cuts to federal child nutrition programs, Head Start, k-12 education, CHIP, among others. When asked whether the following programs should receive no reduction, a minor reduction, or a major reduction, American voters responded as follows (see Figure 1).

• Voters strongly oppose the more than $750 billion in proposed cuts to Medicaid and funding shortfall created in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) included in the House Budget Committee proposal. By a 70-27 percent margin, the majority of American voters oppose the cuts to Medicaid and, by a 73-23 percent margin, Americans oppose the proposed cuts to CHIP (51 percent strongly oppose). This includes opposition to the Medicaid and CHIP cuts by margins of 66-30 percent and 67-26 percent, respectively, in Republican congressional districts. Voters also oppose, by a 2:1 margin, a plan to provide governors more flexibility if it meant eliminating insurance coverage for some children (31 percent favor, 63 percent oppose).

• Cutting programs is not the only option. Voters support other options for reducing the deficit. A 72 percent majority describe eliminating loopholes and federal subsidies to corporations as acceptable, 63 percent accept eliminating the Bush tax cuts for families earning over $250,000 a year, and 64 percent oppose the Ryan plan to lower the top tax bracket by a third. Furthermore, when presented with a range of suggestions for dealing with the deficit, voters support raising taxes on those earning over $1 million a year rather than cutting important programs by a 72-21 percent margin.

• When provided context, voters oppose the House Budget Committee proposal. Less than half of voters (45 percent) support a “proposed budget for the next 10 years that will cut 6.2 trillion from the federal budget deficit.” When provided a fuller and fair description of the details of the plan, support sinks, 37 percent favor, 56 percent oppose.

The telephone survey, completed during the period of April 13-18, 2011, was commissioned by First Focus and conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, using a national probability sample of 1,023 likely 2012 voters. In order to better reflect the changing lifestyle of the voting population, the survey also includes a sample of 114 cell phone interviews. The survey’s margin of error is +/- 3.10 points at 95 percent confidence interval.

I'll agree that our nations children that are legal citizens need some of the governments benefits, but that does not give the government permission to indoctrinate the children that requires the children to become slaves to government funding. There are some children that will require funding for the rest of their lives, and there are some that will take advantage of government funding.

The government has created several entitlement programs that do overlap each other and are totally unnecessary, I call that waste and it can and should be cut.

Where are the details about the cuts that the voters are against?

yup, the bill is coming due in the form of inflation and economic stagnation which will gut tax revenues at a time when the debt is insupportable.

Politicians are paid by the highest bidder to lie to support their benefactors. Some places call it bribes, some places call it gifts, we call it 'campaign contributions'.

You know this defeatism simply isn't true and it tries to claim the American people can't do anything any more and are therefore doomed even though for some strange reason this does not include the top 5% of the people of this nation who just keep making more and more money while the other 95% make less and less.

But even so with that lopsided formula for wealth the simple way to not only pay off our deficit but fund our entitlement commitments is jobs. And not just minimum wage jobs but jobs that pay a living wage and cannot be outsourced to a foreign country.

And those jobs are actually being created now even as we speak in spite of the most wealthy and entrenched interests in this country doing everything they can to stop them. Even with that kind of resistance the US under the leadership of President Obama is converting away from oil and fossil fuels.

Right now we spend nearly a billion dollars a day on imported oil, most of which is refined into gasoline and diesel. We don't need oil for fuel. We can grown and produce our own and pump that billion dollars a day right back into our economy and create the millions of new jobs it will take to pay our debts.

Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), who chairs the powerful Ways and Means Committee, told an audience at a Health Affairs policy breakfast Thursday morning that since the bill is already DOA in the Senate, he wouldn't waste more time on it in the House.

Its both hilarious and hypocritical in my opinion to find the architect of the supposed GOP deficit reduction plan, Paul Ryan, is opposed to unions, unless of course they benefit his family's construction business.

Republican golden boy Paul Ryan is hardly known for his sympathies to organized labor. With his drastic budget proposal to privatize Medicare and unabashed support for Governor Scott Walker's anti-union bill, the Wisconsin congressman has become the new face of the GOP's right flank.

But a closer look at Ryan's voting record reveals a single eyebrow-raising exception when it comes to labor unions: Ryan has consistently broken with his party to defend a law protecting the wages of unionized construction workers. His stance on the issue has earned him the support of a handful of unions back home, setting them apart from the majority of Wisconsin's labor community, which who has cast Ryan as public enemy No. 1.
