‘Booked like a common criminal’: MSNBC’s Joy Reid blasts Trump as ‘king of scandal and disrepute’

Donald Trump is being blasted Thursday evening ahead of being booked at the Fulton County, Georgia Jail.

As Donald Trump exited his private plane with “TRUMP” emblazoned on the sides after touching down in Atlanta to be arrested and booked on 13 charges, including racketeering, related to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election he lost, MSNBC’s Joy Reid delivered strong criticism of the ex-president.

Reid blasted Trump for putting America thorough scandal rather than, as every president has before him throughout America’s history, allowing the peaceful transfer of power.

Trump “produced” this event, Reid explained, “in the sense that he could have just accepted the peaceful transfer of power. It’s what every other president did. Hillary Clinton – I’m sure was devastated at losing an election to this guy, who was the most inadequate human being who has ever been President of the United States. But he accepted it. She congratulated him,” Reid said.

“All 45 previous Presidents have managed to do that very simple thing. George Washington didn’t even have to do it, they didn’t even ask him to do it, before there was a 22nd amendment, everyone did it.”

Trump, Reid charged, “created this in the sense that we did not have to be here. Our democracy didn’t have to be here. We didn’t have to be in a position where the former President of the United States is now going to be booked like a common criminal and have a mug shot. That is his fault. He did it. He wanted the spectacle of being President for life. He wanted to not leave office. He wanted to be this. He decided to be king. And now he is the king of scandal and disrepute.”

Maddow Fingers DeSantis as ‘Worst’ Performer in GOP Debate ‘Just by Being Bad at Talking’ (Video)

Ron DeSantis was “the worst of all eight candidates” on the Republican debate stage on Wednesday night, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Jen Psaki agreed, because he didn’t score a single memorable moment.

“I felt like just as a performer on the debate stage, he was probably the worst of all eight candidates, including a couple of them whose names are hard to remember,” Maddow said on Wednesday night after the debate. “Did he do himself whatever the opposite of a favor is just by being bad at talking?” she asked, which drew snickers from Psaki.

Psaki, a veteran political advisor who served as President Biden’s first press secretary, noted that she’s worked for candidates who were in the lower tiers of a race in this type of multi-podium debate, and said DeSantis did not rise to the occasion.

“You want to have a memorable moment,” she said in a clip from the network’s debate review posted on X. “You want a moment that goes out on social media, you want a moment that your donors remember that you can fundraise off of.”

“I don’t remember a single thing Ron DeSantis said,” Psaki continued. “I’m obviously not a target donor. But he was not memorable. So not only did people ignore him, but he didn’t have a moment that rose in the debate and both of those are problems for him.”

Maddow raised the possibility that DeSantis might have done his campaign some good, even though “nobody paid attention to him on stage,” but Psaki discounted the suggestion.

“Well, there was that story in the Washington Post, I think, about awkward Americans relating to him because he’s awkward, so maybe he appealed to that caucus, perhaps,” she quipped. “But I don’t think he did himself any favors tonight because he wasn’t memorable.”

Maddow reads humiliating excerpts of Trump's court transcript

There were a number of occasions in which Donald Trump's lawyers clashed with U.S. District Court Judge Tanya S. Chutkan during the Monday hearing about the trial date. Last night, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow did a dramatic reading of some of the court disagreements.

In one case, Trump lawyer John Lauro was scolded by the judge for refusing to tell her some other options for court dates prior to 2026. Over and over she asked for other dates, but Lauro refused to give any. So, she set the date for March 4, 2024.

The judge went on to say that she would not take his politics into account, just as she wouldn't take the games of an athlete into account when scheduling trial dates.

"Setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on the defendant's personal and professional obligations. Mr Trump, like any defendant, will have to make the trial date work regardless of his schedule," Chutkan said at Monday's hearing.

Chutkan also revealed in court that she has been in contact with the judge in New York about scheduling trials. It isn't unusual, but it's the first time Americans found out about it.

The schedule has already been posted online and the first motions in the case are due by Oct. 9.

Joe Scarborough and George Conway Go Off on Republican ‘Shtick’ of Hating US Military and Being ‘Anti-the United States’
    By Colby HallSep 5th, 2023, 7:32 am

Joe Scarborough and George Conway were once considered powerful members of the Republican party. Now they are considered among the GOP’s fiercest critics, evidenced by commentary Tuesday morning on Morning Joe.

At issue is Senator Tommy Tuberville’s insistence on holding up military appointments over a reproductive rights issue that has effectively stymied normal operations within US Military command, which Scarborough used to make a broad attack on what he sees as a major shift among the Republican party, which he has since formally left.

“Back when we were Republicans, we used to take great pride at how much we fought for the strengthening of the United States military, the readiness of the United States military,” Scarborough opened. “I was on the Armed Services [Committee], you know, four terms for a reason because that’s what my constituents wanted. That’s what Republican constituents used to want.”

“Now we have Republicans who are saying the United States military, which is the strongest in the world, just is. I mean, it’s just not a close second. We now have Tommy Tuberville saying Republicans saying that, oh, the military’s top heavy. Who said that? Nobody,” he added,

“You got Republicans saying we need to be more like the Russians. We need to be more manly, like the Russians, like the Russian military. You’ve got Republicans that say that our military is weak and it’s woke and Republicans saying that our leaders are stupid and fat pigs. The insults just keep flying towards extraordinarily strong, vital United States military. And if anybody thinks that we can just ask the 500 Russian troops that tried to bum rush the United States military in Syria a few years back, you can’t really ask them because they were all gunned down, all blown apart in about 3 minutes.

“So why is it that just Republicans have this blind spot when it comes to how strong and how successful and how good are United States military is what we do? Why do these Republicans hate the United States military so much?”

“They hate the United States military because it’s part of the United States government,” Conway replied. “And this is basically the Republicans have become anti-American, anti-government, anti-the United States. That’s their shtick now. That’s why you see them attacking law enforcement, the FBI, the Justice Department, state and federal prosecutors, and they attack the institutions that normally Republicans were very, very supportive of.”

” And what now? It’s just this nihilistic attack on American institutions,” Conway added. “It also brings to mind the fact that we live in a completely different era now. I mean, the Senate rules that would all that allow one senator to block a unanimous consent agreement to have these batch nominations sent to the floor.”

“I mean, all these rules, these arcane Senate rules that we talk about that we don’t really talk about but have just curious effects depend on the good faith of the members, good faith and collegiality of the members,” Conway continued. “And that’s one thing that the Republican Party has completely abandoned, which is not just the truth, but good faith and just collegiality.”

A good despicable will never, ever, accept any part of blame for their failure.
    Ever.

Case in point. The issue, buried deep below the headline, is that the despicables wanted to have taxpayers pay for abortions and even for travel required to get an abortion for service members.
Tuberville objects to that on moral grounds.
So, he's doing something that gets a despicable attention. He's bottled up the legislative process.
Using, by the way, a despicable created tactic. That's ironic, eh?

And now the despicables are twirling and howling about Tuberville (looks at American haters post) "so he can grandstand on his own personal religious believes to inflict Sharia Law For Christians enforced by the American Taliban on the nation."

But all despicables have to do is put the funding issue for military abortions out in a separate bill and stop trying to circumvent the law and the constitution. Course, they won't do that, because they know the bill would fail. Whatever it takes to advance the despicable agenda, eh?

    Tuberville was reported to have said recently;
"“Everything is circumventing the Constitution. And yes, this is really about the taxpayers having to pay for something to do with abortion. But it’s also has to do with running straight over our Constitution, tearing down everything that this country’s built 247 years. This is just something where we can fight back a little bit to let this White House know, you’re not gonna do this. You’re gonna have to do it the right way. Or take your time.”

“I’m holding these up Kimberly, but I’m really holding up a group at a time. They can bring ’em, Schumer can can do them one at a time and and have all these confirmed. They don’t want to do that. You know, they like it easy, but they don’t want to really admit that they’re wrong here. So we got a weird standstill right now.”
You see? Always, but always check for the rest of the story before you accept at face value anything stumbler posts.

Ramaswamy uses the Trump tactic of talking fast and trying to talk over anyone trying to question him or pointing out his lies. And all journalists could take some tips from MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan who can talk as fast as he does sticks to the facts and exposes his lies.

MSNBC host defends heated clash with 'horribly annoying' presidential candidate

MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan faced off against Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in a heated interview – and afterward explained why he believed it was important to challenge him no matter how "annoying" it got.

The GOP candidate refused four times to say what he had meant with a previous comment that Donald Trump's "abhorrent" behavior made him a "danger to democracy," and the two clashed over Ramaswamy's business record, conspiratorial claims about 9/11 and his stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"Morning Joe" contributor Mike Barnicle asked for his reaction after watching video clips of the interview.

"Mehdi, as you sat there live interviewing him, and as you sat there this morning watching it again, this horribly annoying person, did it occur to you during the course of the live interview, did it occur to you that maybe you were wasting five, 10, 15 minutes of your life that you'll never get back interviewing this person?" Barnicle asked.

The other panelists snickered at the question, but Hasan said it was important to challenge wild claims from some public figures but ignore some others.

"I have a hygiene test on my show, where I don't allow election deniers, climate deniers, anti-vaxxers on, precisely because you're right, there can be a waste of time when you interview bad-faith actors," Hasan said.

"To be fair to Vivek, he is not an election denier in the traditional sense, and whether we like it or not, he is a contender in the race, in third place, and I thought, look, this guy has been getting away with saying so much nonsense so far. He's able to pivot away from questions he doesn't like, he's able to attack the liberal 'fake news' media in Trumpian fashion. He denies things on tape, he denies more things than any other politician denies things."

Hasan showed Ramaswamy's tweets criticizing Trump or rolled video clips of saying things he was denying on air, and he said the GOP candidate did that because he'd become accustomed to getting away with that behavior.

"There is another moment in the exchange where we talked about the scholarship he got from the Soros family as a law student," Hasan said. "He said, 'I didn't have money.' He denied saying it, and then I had to say, you did say it. He said, 'Check my tax returns.' I said, "I have them here -- you made $650,000, you didn't need the scholarship. He relies on people not holding him to account."

"To go back to Mike's question, that's why I wanted to do it," Hasan added. "Certain people, no matter how annoying it may be to do it, you have to hold them to account."

MSNBC Host’s ‘Masterclass’ Takedown of Vivek Draws Praise Even From Conservatives

Mehdi Hasan’s tenacious interview with GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, which featured the MSNBC host relentlessly grilling the biotech entrepreneur on Wednesday about his past criticism of former President Donald Trump , has been widely hailed as a “masterclass” by journalists and media critics.

The praise for the unapologetically progressive Hasan has also spanned across the political spectrum, with even some conservatives openly calling for right-wing media to take notes and follow his lead.

During a marathon 25-minute sitdown with Ramaswamy that aired on NBC’s streaming service Peacock, Hasan held the 38-year-old multi-millionaire’s feet to the fire throughout, rarely giving the “anti-woke” culture warrior a chance to deflect and dodge when confronted over his past comments and behavior.

While Hasan pressed Ramaswamy on his “classic pump-and-dump scheme” related to an Alzheimer’s drug that failed clinical trials and the presidential hopeful’s flirtations with 9/11 conspiracies, it was on the subject of Trump and the Jan. 6 insurrection where the interview grew most heated.

“Is Donald Trump, as you say now, the best president of the 21st century?” Hasan wondered. “Or is Trump, as you’ve said in the past, in your books, on Twitter, a ‘sore loser’ who is a ‘danger to democracy’ and who did ‘downright abhorrent' and ‘egregious things on January 6’? Which one is he, Vivek?” (Six days after the Capitol riots, Ramaswamy tweeted: “What Trump did last week was wrong. Downright abhorrent. Plain and simple. I’ve said it before and did so in my piece.”)

The candidate, who currently sits in third place in GOP primary polls, reiterated that he still believes Trump was the best president of this century while asserting he “would have made the same judgments” that Trump made “every step of the way.” The MSNBC host, however, continued to press the matter.

In an attempt to pivot, Ramaswamy pointed to a Wall Street Journal op-ed he wrote claiming “censorship was the real cause of what happened on January 6,” prompting Hasan to ask him for a second time what Trump did that he’d consider “downright abhorrent.”

“The thing that I would have done differently if I were in his shoes, I would have declared re-election on January 7,” Ramaswamy answered, repeating his previously derided position on certifying the 2020 election results.

The outspoken MSNBC host wouldn’t back down, though, repeatedly pressuring Ramaswamy to “explain to our viewers your words” on what actions Trump took that were egregious. “It’s a simple question. It’s your words, it’s onscreen. What did he do that was downright abhorrent?” Hasan directly asked.

“I believe that failing to unite this country falls short of what a true leader ought to do,” Ramaswamy finally said, still avoiding fully answering the question. “That is why I am in this race, to do things differently than any prior president has done them.”

After the video of the exchange went viral on social media, a number of reporters, media observers, and other prominent figures heaped praise on Hasan for his steadfast and unwavering effort to force the notoriously fast-talking and evasive politician to explain his flip-flops.

“A mini masterclass of keeping eyes on the ball and refusing to be spun,” New York Times reporter Jonathan Swan tweeted. Of course, Swan is also known for a famous Emmy-winning 2020 interview with Trump in which he easily demolished many of the ex-president’s favorite falsehoods by merely asking him follow-up questions.

“There are few questions better than asking someone to explain something they've already said,” KUSA anchor Kyle Clark wrote. “And few answers more telling than when they refuse.”

“Watching @mehdirhasan question @VivekGRamaswamy about his damning Trump tweet is like watching a Siamese cat bat around a 3-legged mouse,” Columbia Journalism School professor Bill Grueskin observed.

“Gonna bookmark this,” Washington Post reporter Dan Diamond noted. “Great example of an interviewer — prepared, persistent and respectful — staying focused on the question and not being satisfied by the spin.”

It wasn’t just reporters who were in awe of Hasan’s bulldozing of Ramaswamy, who has shown a growing tendency to outright deny things he’s said or done, even when they are on tape. Several conservatives also applauded the liberal journalist’s aggressive questioning of the GOP presidential contender.

“It took an MSNBC bro to expose Vivek's egregious flip flopping on Trump. Absolutely hilarious how Vivek squirms like worm on a hook while he desperately tries not to answer what exactly he meant when he said that Trump had done downright abhorrent things,” Epoch TV host Hans Mahncke tweeted.

“I wish more people in conservative media would call out Vivek’s lies to his face like this,” former The View co-host and current Daily Mail columnist Meghan McCain stated.

“It’s honestly embarrassing for conservative media that it took Mehdi Hassan, who I obviously am not a fan of, to finally and repeatedly confront Vivek with his own words,” conservative pundit AG Hamilton posted. “They do a serious disservice to Republican voters by refusing to really pressure/challenge candidates.”

This is far from the first time that Hasan has made a guest squirm during a contentious interview. Earlier this year, he grilled heterodox journalist Matt Taibbi over several errors contained within his “Twitter Files” reporting, prompting Taibbi to correct several tweets following the interview. (Taibbi and several of his Substack colleagues have since contended that Hasan was the one who got his facts wrong in the exchange.)

‘I Hate To Break It To You!’ MSNBC’s Jen Psaki Mocks Republican Abortion Re-Brand — Drops Bad News About Rape Exception
    By Tommy ChristopherSep 10th, 2023, 2:27 pm
    551 comments
MSNBC’s Jen Psaki mocked Republicans who are trying to rebrand their opposition to abortion rights as something more like “pro-baby” than “pro-life” — and delivered some important information to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) about his state’s laws.

According to exclusive new reporting from NBC News, Senate Republicans are workshopping a new way to describe their stance as “pro-life” has failed to resonate — with one suggesting “pro-baby” as a jumping-off point.

On Sunday’s edition of MSNBC’s Inside With Jen Psaki, the host teed up her interview with Sen. Amy Klobuchar with a commentary mocking Republicans and clueing Hawley in on the rape and incest exceptions that are not in his state’s abortion laws:

According to new reporting from NBC, Republican strategists are exploring a shift away from pro-life messaging on abortion after consistent Election Day losses for the GOP when reproductive rights were on the ballot. The reporting details a closed-door meeting this past week where Senate Republicans were presented with poll results that show the term “pro-life” no longer resonated with voters. No kidding.

Senator Josh Hawley actually said this with a straight face: Many voters think pro-life means you’re for no exceptions in favor of abortion ever.

A little memo to Mr. Hawley, in Missouri, which is the state you represent, abortion law makes no exceptions for rape or incest. No exceptions for rape or incest.

But they don’t seem to be wrapped up in these pesky little details of the actual impact of the policy because they are seeking a re-brand. Pro-life now becomes in the words Indiana Senator Todd Young, pro-baby — pro-baby.

Okay, I hate to break it to you, but if you call broccoli, candy, it’s still just broccoli. If you tie really nice bow around a lump of coal, it is still coal under there.

The branding isn’t the problem here. The policy is the problem. And no matter what they call it, the truth is, the Republican platform has long been pro-life.

But, for the sake of argument, because there should always be a bridge back to good policymaking in Washington, D.C. especially, if they wanted to be pro-baby, maybe they should stop opposing new childcare and parental leave programs, or food stamps for low income women and young children, I could go on.

It is hard to roll out an effective brand for a product that customers hate. That’s a big old marketing tool piece of advice for you. And if I were them, I also wouldn’t want to run on a platform of anti-rights, anti-choice, anti-women either.

The first thing the mental health experts pointed out not only did the test Trump brags about not test his mental acuity it was also rigged. All five words had links that Trump could relate to. It was like learning a line for a TV show. "Person, woman, man, camera, TV" would ever be substituted for just five random words.

    So Morning Joe is right.

‘Morning Joe’ Drags Trump for Challenging Rupert Murdoch, Biden to Mental Acuity Test: ‘Would Not Work Out Well’ for You (Video)

challenged President Biden, Rupert Murdoch and more to a mental acuity test in another angry Truth Social rant on Sunday, fueled by the confidence of “acing” his last one. But, as MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts argued on Monday, this idea would definitely “not work out well” for Trump “on so many levels.”

Trump’s latest screed came in response to a new poll from the Wall Street Journal, which asked voters for their thoughts on both Biden and Trump’s age and mental state, in relation to being president again.

“In a phony and probably rigged Wall Street Journal poll, coming out of nowhere to softened [sic] the mental incompetence blow that is so obvious with Crooked Joe Biden, they ask about my age and mentality,” Trump wrote. “Where did that come from?”

“Well, we could play you about an hour worth of clips and show you where it came from,” host

interrupted with a laugh as Mika Brzezinski read the post aloud. “Or, show you trying to walk down the stage at West Point.”

Trump also wrote that, “A few years ago I was the only one to agree to a mental acuity test, & ACED IT” — something that Scarborough once again found a bit funny.

“Dude,” Scarborough mocked. “You said ‘horse, cow, woman, pig, camera’ or something. And the fact that you call that acing it shows just how wobbly things must be for you.”

Scarborough added that challenging Biden and Murdoch “would not work out well for Donald Trump on so many levels,” and marveled at how Trump is still the leading Republican candidate when he’s “howling at the moon, saying crazy stuff every day.”

But, Rev. Al Sharpton had a theory on that one.

“The advantage that Trump has, is when you start off a little strange, it’s harder to gauge that you’ve gotten stranger,” he said. “I mean, we look at Biden, who has started off normal, and start saying ‘is he acting off?'”

He continued, “Trump started off, so as harder for people to catch up with how off he’s really gotten, because he was never really that stable and centered in the first place, as we would judge being stable and centered.”

You can watch the full discussion from “Morning Joe” in the video above.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) went after Speaker Kevin McCarthy on MSNBC Wednesday, saying that the California Republican is a "liar" and a wimp in several different ways.

Speaking to Ari Melber, Gaetz began by saying McCarthy is "lying like a dead dog" about the reason he and McCarthy are feuding. Gaetz swears he wants term limits and that McCarthy agreed to it in their deal in January. While Gaetz said several months ago that he would release the agreement the two men reached, he still hasn't done it. Now he's saying he doesn't have it and that Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is the one who has the paperwork.

Melber and Gaetz debated back and forth about whether or not Gaetz would call on Roy to release the agreement, which has never been made public. Gaetz swore he had no problem and then attacked Melber for quibbling about the agreement instead of about anything important.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Melber couldn't understand why if Gaetz made a deal with McCarthy, why then he didn't have the deal and lied in their previous interview when he promised to release it.

"Again, I told you, I don't have a copy. But no one is disputing this. You don't have to look at a written agreement because back in January of this year, these things didn't just emerge out of nowhere. We talked about them at the time. In January we were saying balanced budgets, term limits, single subject spending bills."

While Gaetz was bringing up the agreement again to McCarthy, he said that the speaker had been completely non-responsive.

"I can't quite tell if he's in the denial or anger phase, but we've got to get to bargaining soon in order to resolve this," said Gaetz.

Melber played clips of McCarthy telling the press today that Gaetz is "upset about an ethics point" and that he didn't care about threats for his speaker chair.

"My response is really going to surprise you. This is about term limits, a balanced budget, and spending bills just like I have been saying the entire year," said Gaetz.

He went on to proclaim himself the "most investigated man in the entire Congress," a fact that Rep. George Santos (R-NY) might disagree with.

"Right there you saw Kevin McCarthy lying like a dead dog, because I have never asked him to interfere in any ethics matter," swore Gaetz. "I had the FBI and DOJ who hate me investigate me for three years. You covered it nearly nightly and you acknowledged at the end that my denials held up consistently, and the people who spread lies about me are sitting in a federal prison right now, because they were part of a criminal scheme, not me."

Melber cut in to say that in fairness the DOJ did close the case, but he finds it curious that Gaetz would go this far in attacking the Speaker.

"He seems to be implying you are not doing these things for the reasons you say, but that you were requesting, or perhaps through other people, requesting some special handling or treatment in the ethics requirement. You're saying that's a lie tonight?" he asked.

Gaetz called it an "abject lie from a sad and pathetic man who lies to hold on to power." He went on to attack McCarthy further, demanding his compliance with term limits and other items he said are on his list and that there wouldn't be a motion to vacate the chair.

Melber played another clip of McCarthy relating to impeachment, which Gaetz also attacked McCarthy on.

"Yesterday, McCarthy said impeachment inquiry. Today he says something to the effect of it's not really about impeachment, it's about getting answers. And then I have a sound I want to you listen to where he says this," said Melber with the recording.

McCarthy has been attacked by Democrats for pretending to have an impeachment, but not actually moving forward with a legitimate impeachment that includes a vote. It was a fact that one Republican senator told Raw Story she wasn't even aware of.

Political analysts warn he's being attacked by moderates because the public believes there is an actual impeachment, and he's facing off against MAGA supporters who know it isn't a real impeachment and want to see more.

"I couldn't tell if you cut away to Kevin McCarthy or a commercial for low-T," Gaetz said, referencing low testosterone, an issue that some men face as they age. "Yesterday's impeachment is not today's impeachment. If we have to make the case about Joe Biden let's hope we have effective people like Jim Jordan and James Comer making the case and turn off the Kevin McCarthys."

Gaetz says McCarthy ‘lying,’ in response to accusations he’s colluding with Swalwell | The Hill

Gaetz says McCarthy ‘lying,’ in response to accusations he’s colluding with Swalwell
BY NICK ROBERTSON - 09/13/23 6:53 PM ET

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) attacked Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) Wednesday, saying the Freedom Caucus ally has been “working with” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) to conspire against him.

Gaetz has long been an opponent of McCarthy, including refusing to back his Speakership bid in January. He re-upped calls to replace the Speaker last week with a tweet to Swalwell inquiring about Democratic support, which McCarthy claims is, in reality, about an ethics complaint against the Florida congressman.

“Matt is working with Eric Swalwell, but let me be very clear,” McCarthy told CNN. “Matt is upset about an ethics complaint. I don’t care what they threaten against me. I’m not gonna interject into an independent committee like ethics, and I’m not going to put Swalwell back on the intel committee. So, they can do whatever they want.”

Gaetz is facing a House Ethics Committee investigation over allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct and did drugs, among other claims. The Department of Justice (DOJ) declined to prosecute Gaetz on sex trafficking allegations in February.

In an MSNBC interview later Wednesday, Gaetz denied that he is motivated by that investigation.

“I am the most investigated man in the entire Congress, and right there you saw Kevin McCarthy lying like a dead dog because I have never asked him to interfere in any ethics matter,” Gaetz said.

He called McCarthy’s implication that he asked for special treatment on the complaint an “abject lie from a sad and pathetic man who lies to hold onto power.”

Gaetz’s calls for a new Speaker were sparked by his demands for an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. McCarthy backed an impeachment inquiry Tuesday, but Gaetz said that move is only “baby steps.”

Swalwell originally called out Gaetz’s threat to remove McCarthy as “empty.”

“I’ve never seen a colleague make more empty threats — day in/day out than this guy. Gaetz folded like a cheap card table to make McCarthy speaker and will never — I repeat, never — make a motion to remove McCarthy. I do not work with serious people,” Swalwell wrote last week.

House Republicans removed Swalwell and fellow California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff from the Intelligence Committee in January, in a political move Democrats claimed was retribution for similar removals of far-right Republicans from committees.

The controversy over removing McCarthy and impeaching Biden come as negotiations over the federal budget continue. The budget is set to expire at the end of the month.

The interesting thing about the ethics complaint currently being investigated in the house is that the Department of Justice already investigated the allegations against Gaetz, and declined to prosecute cause, you know, no witness.
No matter. We see again hints of the deep state, or swamp, or whatever you want to call it.

Jen Psaki Busts Out Laughing As She and MSNBC Host Roast Trump Over Cognitive Abilities
    Tommy ChristopherSep 28th, 2023, 2:04 pm

MSNBC host Jen Psaki busted out laughing as she roasted ex-President Donald Trump’s cognitive abilities by confirming that President Joe Biden never sought praise for reciting a string of random words.

As GOP candidates debated on Fox Biz Wednesday night, Trump gave a speech at the non-union Drake Enterprises facility in Clinton, Michigan in which he ranted about the supposed dangers of electric motors on boats, among other things.

On Thursday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough mocked Trump over that rant, then offered up a “cheat sheet” based on several other recent Trump gaffes.

Fellow MSNBC hosts Jonathan Lemire and Psaki got into the act, mocking Trump’s infamous list-based feat of mnemonic prowess with their own firsthand recollections:

WILLIE GEIST: Yeah. You know, that combination of circumstances you described, Joe could lead us right into World War Two. We’ve got to be very careful about all.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well, yeah. No, no, I agree. Our producers, they’ve been doing some work for Donald, and I don’t know if he would take a cheat sheet, but I think they, they worked one up for him. If he ever does do a debate, he should, he should take these note cards with him. His opponent is Joe Biden. He’s not running against Barack Obama. Also very important that he understands he’s not running against Jeb, George W,. George H.W. or most importantly for him, Billy Bush. Like you said, Donald needs to know World War Two is over and we won it. So many other things. But, you know, Jonathan Lemire, most importantly, always has to keep on the tip of his tongue person, woman, man, camera, TV. If anybody asks him any question after he goes on a long rant about how he beat Barack Obama in 2016, he can show how cogent and sane and rational he is.

JONATHAN LEMIRE: Yeah, that’s the entrance exam for the Oval Office. I believe when you can do those, string those five words together. Mike Barnicle, we know that Donald Trump very proud of his ability to pass that cognitive test, saying that no one else could have possibly done it at that time. I remember being on Air Force One when he came back and proudly recited it at the beginning and end of the press gaggle and expected, expected credit, came back on Air Force One and he did it. And then he answered some questions with reporters. And at the end, he’s like, watch this. They managed to do it again and he expected us to give him a round of applause or something. Yeah, no, no, we didn’t do any of that. We didn’t even get the M&Ms.

MIKE BARNICLE: What prompted him to come back on Air Force One to do that?

JONATHAN LEMIRE: Oh, yeah. I mean, he there were reporters there with microphones, so therefore he couldn’t stay away. That would be a pretty frequent occurrence under the Trump administration.

MIKE BARNICLE: Oh, yeah. So, Jen, I don’t know. You’ve been on Air Force One with a real President of the United States. I can’t imagine any of this.

JEN PSAKI: Neither of them, Barack Obama or Joe Biden, went to the back of the plane and uttered four words repeatedly and looked for a cookie. (LAUGHS) I can confirm that here this morning!

I am not usually all that impressed with reporters reporting from war zones because they usually seem a little over dramatic to me. But one way to tell we were seeing something different this morning is both the MSNBC and CNN crews had to hit the dirt. And not for dramatic effect. They got caught in rocket fire and were scared shitless.

NBC’s Richard Engel Reports Rockets Are Coming ‘Quite Close’ as He Takes Cover During Harrowing Live Shot

NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel was forced to take cover during incoming rocket and mortar fire as he reported live from Israel about the latest developments since the Hamas terrorist attack over the weekend.

Hundreds of Israelis have been reported dead, and many more injured or missing, including many who have been reportedly taken hostage into Gaza, after a devastating attack by Hamas over the weekend. Monday morning, the U.S. State Department confirmed that nine Americans were among the dead.

Engel was in Sderot, at the Gaza border, and told the Morning Joe audience there was “a lot of fire here,” explaining why he was crouched down by a wall.

“We believe it’s mortar fire,” he continued. “Some of them from rockets, they’ve been coming in quite close. That is why we’re on the ground right now. This is still considered a very active combat zone even though we’re inside Israeli territory, and it’s not just the incoming rockets and mortars, there are also reports from Israeli officials of new infiltrations of Hamas sending more fighters through breaches in the border fence.”

A senior Israeli official had told NBC News that there had been “about 30” breaches in the border perimeter, “around 90%” of which had been fixed, “but 10% remain, they’re trying to secure those,” and “so this is still an active situation here.”

The Israelis were working on moving civilians away from the border towns and searching for Hamas fighters, Engel said, because they believed sleeper cells and other fighters had “infiltrated” the area and were “potentially, hiding in some of the buildings.”

The “barrage” of fire like their reporting team just experienced seemed to have passed, he noted. “They come in waves, but this one was right — practically right on top of us.”

“Richard, if any moment you or your crew need to move to get to safety, please do so,” said guest anchor Katty Kay. “If you can speak to us, and continue to speak to us, just to be clear, the mortar fire that you’re hearing is not just then Israelis attacking Gaza. There are still rockets coming out of Gaza into Israel, is that right?”

“Oh, 100%, there are rockets coming out of Gaza, and mortars. We very close to the Gaza strip,” Engel confirmed, adding that even with Israel’s “sophisticated” air defense and warning systems, there was usually only a warning time of “about 20 seconds,” but “sometimes, with the smaller munitions like the mortars, you don’t get a warning.”

“We didn’t hear a warning for very long before this latest barrage happened,” he continued. “So, to answer your question, yes, there are still rockets and mortars coming out of Gaza. The Israelis are bombing inside Gaza. We’ve seen and heard Israeli jets and drones flying overhead. And the infiltrations are still under way.”

Kay asked Engel about the reports that 300,000 Israeli reservists were being called up, and if he had seen any signs that they were “planning to mount any kind of land invasion into Gaza?”

Engel replied that it was “difficult to know what they are preparing to do, but we have seen a buildup of forces here. We’ve seen tanks. We’ve seen armored personnel carriers. We’ve seen medical vehicles. We’ve seen a whole host of different armored vehicles moving into this area with a full complement of soldiers. It’s hard to know if they’re preparing for some sort of assault. I don’t think the number of troops that we’ve seen indicates that they’re getting ready for any land incursion. And the land incursion at this stage would be enormously difficult because there are still so many Israeli hostages inside.”
