I mentioned before that I've been PM'd - by guys! - looking for the same sort of thing! Clearly, they don't read the threads before PMing.

Maybe there should be a system where newbies can't PM other members until they've made a set number of posts - say 100. At least that way they will have to have been on the threads and got an idea of what they're like...

Usually it's kind of "hit and run" pms by guys who don't even stick around...they might be here once and never return.

 

There are options in the control panel :

The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.

Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages
If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.

By banning noobs from posting for a set amount of posts, that type of tosser wouldn't have the patience to wait around... thankfully

 

I agree that limiting who could send PMs would greatly limit the unwelcome ones received but there are several problems with the 100 posts to a PM argument.

First of all suppose there are people that need to feel more comfortable around individuals before they are free in a crowd. Someone may just want to talk about football, sci fi, or Macbeth with someone willing to talk on a personal level before being part of the group. Many people needing to be worked out of their shells will never make it to 100.

Also it could create a lot of spam. The people who are absolutely determined to use the site for this cyber dating will post 100 messages of absolute crap just so they can start sending PMs. Those determined types may even be encouraged to do this by the notion of less competition from all the guys not willing to spam.

But the chief reason this will never happen is because these people are supporting the site financially. Take the average one of us that comes on here to argue science, religion, politics etc and compare that to your average person looking for a cyber fuck. Cyber is going to click far more links to other sex sites and ultimately purchase other content. These 'sexed crazed lurkers' are doing far more to support this site than anyone coming here for more congenial purposes.





Added: Though I realize that the amount of random PMs I get from the guys you mention don't even compare in numbers, it is enough that I simply started to ignore them. Originally, I would simply say thank you no. Either way it really didn't ruin my day.

I've found MOST of the random pms i've gotten are usually from young guys who just want to have a good time...they're usually horny and want to get off at the moment and are looking for a "helping" hand. That's the nature of the beast ESPECIALLY on a porn site. They aren't looking for a lifetime commitment.

There's no need to be rude or go on an emotional tirade...just a polite refusal is enough. They don't know how many pms anyone has received prior to theirs.

I agree with you!

Personally, it's not a major problem: more an irritant. But some of the women have been virtually innundated with unwelcome PM's, which is unfair as well as being bloody annoying.

I am dead set against any sort of banning on the forums in general: if we went down that road then we'd soon all be under the yoke of censorship and the site would die... However, certain restrictions could prove to be beneficial in the long run....

I threw the idea out there to gauge what others think. From what I'm reading, it's not a popular idea, which doesn't surprise me!
