    I dont know.

Kim Jong-un knew that he could get away with murder under the previous U.S. Administration.

At this time in history, I'm sensing that he has a clear understanding of what could be awaiting him if he wishes to conitnue his antics.

Time will tell of course, yet, I still reserve the opinion that the little fellow may get quiet.

If he does not have a clear understanding I'm going to go rough up that little Kim Jong - Un'er. I think.

Looking out on the water and seeing an aircraft destroyer accompanied with various other war ships should give him something to think about.
He may already gone too far over the hill to realize what could happen.
Starve them out could still work.

Korea could well be the battle that Trump has to fight. It will depend on whether the Chinese can control that mad hatter, and if so, what they want him to do.

Korea has remained an issue for over 60 years, with no change. Perhaps time for Trump to tell China to stand back, we have a mad dog to deal with, but Shooter thinks China would rather have the mad hatter on a chain, snarling and barking to keep our attention. They surely don't want one of our Carrier groups lurking around that region. They might cut some kind of deal with the US; let us claim the disputed areas of the South China Sea and we'll deal with the mad hatter for you. Shooter doesn't think Trump would go for that.

Sound assessment. Maybe we should move 2 carrier groups to the area.

It will be very hard to guess what might happen with Korea.
No one can tell what the man from Korea might decide to do.
Trump is probably not going to let anyone know what he is going to do until he has already done it.
    Not a real good recipe.

tRump has absolutely no idea "what he is going to do". Any first strike that we make WILL spell the end of the USA as we know it. You can take that to the bank. Kim CAN be beaten, but not before he destroy South Korea, Japan, and much of the US. First Strike is a losing proposition for us.

I would not be surprised to see a Korean missile shot out of the air before it goes in an ocean.....

But they are planning on testing another nuke any day now......
They will be selling them to Iran....

Even if the missile was armed with a nuke there would not be a nuclear explosion.

a nuke test will not be on a missile----just nuke test maybe underground.....

    THE TUNNELS OF MOUNT MANTAP
North Korea has conducted five nuclear tests, all in the depths of a remote, granite peak called Mount Mantap.

The location of its testing site is no secret.

It's a favorite target of spy satellites. North Korea featured it in a 2010 propaganda film.

About halfway up the 2,205-meter (7,200-foot) mountain are three main entrances, or portals, into horizontal tunnels stretching a kilometer (about a mile) or more into the mountain. Studies of the tunnel used for the second test, which was conducted in 2009 and featured in the propaganda film, suggest it has the shape of a fishhook. Pakistan used a similar design.

The device was placed at the farthest end of the tunnel, which used the angles and corners of the "hook" section to deflect and absorb as much of the blast as possible. To further optimize absorption, the tunnel had nine or 10 sharp corners with bulkheads and dead-end "debris traps."

The Los Angeles Times | 10 Apr 2017 | by Laura King

REPORTING FROM WASHINGTON -- Pivoting off what the White House considers a successful U.S. missile strike in Syria, the Trump administration sent a not-so-subtle message Sunday to North Korea: Don't risk being next.

With growing signs that Pyongyang may be preparing a sixth nuclear test, a U.S. aircraft carrier strike force near Singapore was diverted north toward the Korean peninsula, President Trump spoke to leaders in Tokyo and Seoul, and senior administration officials made pointed note of the "full range of options" available to counter threats to the United States or its allies.

The sudden flurry of action centering on North Korea comes on the heels of Trump's summit in Florida on Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders publicly played down their economic and political disputes and addressed their common interest in reining in North Korea's mercurial leader, Kim Jong Un.

Pyongyang has repeatedly warned that it aims to test an intercontinental ballistic missile or conduct another underground nuclear test. Analysts say one could come as soon as April 15, the 105th birthday of North Korea's founding president and celebrated annually as the Day of the Sun.

The spotlight's turn from Syria to North Korea carries benefits as well as risks for the Trump administration, now nearing its 100-day mark.

"The number one threat in the region continues to be North Korea due to its reckless, irresponsible and destabilizing program of missile tests and pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability," U.S. Pacific Command spokesman Dave Benham told reporters.

North Korea has a long history of defying United Nations resolutions and other attempts to prevent it from developing nuclear arms in conjunction with its growing ballistic-missile capabilities.

Kim's government has conducted five underground nuclear tests, two of them in 2016, and is working to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles that ultimately could deliver a warhead to U.S. territory.

"If we judge that they have perfected that type of delivery system, then that becomes a very serious stage of their further development," Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

NK is a powerkeg and Kim almost makes Putin look sane lol. There are far too many variables for the US to do anything of substance to them considering their geographic location to potentially hostile nations to the USA. The US should practice on Syria and by then they will know exactly where Russia stands if they decide to turn NK into a parking lot as well. China will chime in at that time.

Trump is being made to look like he is actually in control of war mongering and that goes back to the Generals blowing smoke up his ass like was mentioned in that pathetic thread a while back by one of our radical rimmers ... they want war, that is what they do. When I want a blowjob from my sweety I am really nice to her before I ask (if I have to ask).

Bring on WW3 time to thin out the herd ...

I think about the only thing that will really get China's attention is if we threaten to put US nukes in South Korea along with a missile defense system.

It is one of the scenarios being considered, but I do not think they will go that far. Nukes in S. Korea, I mean. As for missile defense, we most likely already have for intermediate range missiles. The trick is to have short range defenses that are effective, and for that we would need anti-missile installations in South Korea. But even there, I wonder... North Korea is known to have nukes, but how sophisticated are their warheads? Short range tactical nukes are quite sophisticated. Many countries have nukes, but only a fraction of those can mount them on something like a cruise missile. The US used to have tactical nuke shells that could be fired in the battlefield, from howitzer artillery, but Clinton had them all destroyed. I think Russia still has artillery compatible tactical nukes, but it doesn't seem like something North Korea could have.

North Korea has limited technology and even far more limited fuel. I would bet that, given how rare their fuel supply is, they would be going for maximum bang-for-buck. I don't think they would bother making a few hundred low yield artillery nukes for the battlefield (even if they had the technical ability). They would take that uranium and lump it all into a huge doomsday BOMB.

The U.S. used to have nukes in 55 gallon and 38 gallon barrels. Don't know if they still have them now.

U.S. moves parts of controversial missile defense to South Korea

SEOUL, South Korea -- U.S. missile launchers and other equipment needed to set up a controversial missile defense system have arrived in South Korea, the U.S. and South Korean militaries said Tuesday, a day after North Korea test-launched four ballistic missiles into the ocean near Japan.

The plans to deploy the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, within this year have angered not only North Korea, but also China and Russia, which see the system’s powerful radars as a security threat.

Washington and Seoul say the system is defensive and not meant to be a threat to Beijing or Moscow.

The U.S. Pacific Command described the THAAD system as “a strictly defensive capability” that “poses no threat to other countries in the region.” It said in a statement that the deployment “contributes to a layered missile defense system” and enhances defense against missile threats from North Korea.

I would like to think we will not do anything rash, for purposes of making a "statement."

But the other night I went to bed saying the same thing and woke up to the cruise missile bombing of Syria's airfield.

The problem with North Korea is that the place is more than just a buffer zone for China. I think that China would like nothing more than to annex the entire Korean peninsula, using North Korea to do it.

Korea is to China as Syria is to Russia. Their sandbox. Not ours.

A more likely scenario is for N. Korea to engineer some incident with South Korea or with US forces, either at the DMZ or even in the Sea of Japan or the Yellow Sea. Anyone recall the USS Pueblo, in 1968 North Korea captured one of our spy ships and held the crew for almost a year before releasing them. The Pueblo remains a commissioned ship of the US, but is just now on display in North Korea as a war museum.

Shooter suspects the US would be extremely intolerant of North Korea aggression in the form of grabbing US ships or US citizens. N. Korea has a history of attempted assassinations of S. Korean government officials. While the mad hatter might want an incident he might not like the response quite as much. This President would likely send in the marines and/or Seal teams.

In Shooter's view, the only reason either Russia or China would want some incident to develop between North Korea and the US would be to take attention and resources from some other hot spot. China in particular doesn't want our ships in the Sea of Japan.

I don't think China wants to control North Korea. I think NK is a resource. For particular use.

North Korea is their guinea pig. I am convinced that North Korea is being used by China for testing. That is, when North Korea fires a missile to test some aspect of a system, it is being done at China's behest.

I don't know this for a fact. It is only a theory. All I know is, China has enough ships to create a pontoon bridge right across the Pacific to our doorstep, but their technology is decades inferior. That is why I think they are using North Korea as a testbed, to test new payload delivery technology right under our noses.

LOL. I was never an ADM (Atomic Demolition and Munition tech-- btw thanks for explaining), but I do have a book on Amazon that features a brief tactical nuclear war, so I had to learn all kinds of crazy stuff.

For instance: the US had battlefield tactical nukes, numbered W48, which could be fired from M198 Howitzer. They had a relatively short range, for a nuke, but they were low yield. Supposedly Clinton had them decommissioned, but in my book a renegade battlefield (brigade) general orders his logistic crew to dig to hell and back and find HIS nukes, and by God they succeed.

I also learned that the smallish looking guns on the bow of the Aegis class destroyer (MK45's) are in fact five inch rapid fire artillery, suitable for taking down attacking aircraft, yet they are classed as "light" guns!

All kinds of other crazy stuff, too. The book is not really about war. It is an erotic romance, believe it or not. But shit happens.

Yeah, quite close. The Howitzer (as you surely know) has a only around a 15-25mi range with non-propelled ordnance, and the W48's were heavy (uranium being among the heaviest metals). Range could be increased to something like 40mi with propelled ordnance like Excalibur missiles, but I don't think the Army had nuke versions of those; coventional only.

And then of course M198 artillery are not mobile. They have wheels, but once they are set and emplaced, they have to stay put. The M1 Abrams is true mobile artillery, but low yield only and shitty range, no more than three miles and much less than that when moving.

    LOL

Haven't thought much about this book in the past year. Too busy with other crap.

incidentally, in that book the Army is up against a technologically superior adversary in the first nanotechnological war. They use nukes against the adversary, but not effectively. And the Army also develops what it hopes will be an effective nanotech countermeasure, utilizing a variant of Utility Fog which they store and deploy in red 55 gallon drums (your mention of drum nukes reminded me of this), but their prototype super-weapon turns out to be a dud, and they get their asses reamed.
