  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

What preparations have you taken, if there's a system wide, long term failure?
How should people prepare, or supplies to have on hand for a system wide failure?

    Are you prepared?

I have been wondering about this for a long time. Ever since the Sony hack. North Korea is really good at what they do. And it's a lot more than just missiles. They are also the best counterfeiters in the world of US money.

And if Russia can steal our presidential election it ought to tell us how vulnerable we are to cyber attacks. And Trump is failing to protect us.

The electrical grids are a major concern. Even facilities with standby generators will be crippled when their fuel reserve is gone, with little prospects of fuel arriving since pumps at stations, and refineries will be down because of the electrical outage.
Major cities will become unmanageable, along with rampant crime once food supplies, and other resources are gone because of transports, and trains not being refueled to deliver goods.
A nation will quickly turn on it'self.

    The infrastructure vulnerabilities are extreme.
Just imagine New York not having any traffic lights! The chaos would be mind blowing.
Now add to that all the real concerns of widespread, long term power outages, and that reality is terrifying.
Hospitals down, police communications/service impossible, grocery stores empty, no water etc.!

Yes, a Nuclear Threat is a nightmare, but absolute devastation could be inflicted with the simple stroke of a key!
Trump needs to be very careful with his mindless threats, or the entire nation becomes vulnerable to whoever wants to knock on it's door!

    And the scary part!
The people aren't being told to prepare themselves, even under the guise of natural disaster etc. It just compounds the Nations, and it's peoples vulnerabilities.

So. How would you suggest we prepare?
Start ignoring the elevators and escalators, and take the stairs?
Get a better first aid kit?
      Stock up on canned food?
Bury a gas tank in the back yard?
Stock up on guns and ammo?
Buy only cars built before about 1980?

There is an organization called "NERC".......... The North American Electric Reliability Corporation.
You should look them up. They exist because of the recognized weaknesses in power grids, and the severe impact a cyber attack could have on an industrialized society.

First, they do not list North Korea as a significant threat. They see China as a bigger threat, and for good reason. Neither North Korea or Russia are even in the top 5.

Second, they have policies and practices about what to tell the American public if an attack is imminent or has happened. If you join NERC they'll share with you what that is. You would be surprised.

The US electrical grid being as antiquated as it is makes it unlikely to be widely disabled by a foreign cyber attack...

However, hypothetically speaking if such an attack you described were to happen, that would be consider an act of war and the perpetrators would be on the receiving end of a full US military response...

We still have hydro. They can't stop water from flowing down hill.

    1. shootersa
Well, but see, once the water "flows down hill" and generates electricity, the electricity becomes part of the electrical grid, and the grid is controlled by computers talking over the internet. It has to be. It got far too complicated to be run by controllers sitting in power house control rooms.

And the problem is that computers talking over the internet are as subject to being hacked as your own computer. It's a bigger network, and far more sophisticated, but you get the point. The industry has known about the hacking vulnerability, and many other soft spots in the system, for many years.

Starting about the time we surrendered our chip manufacturing capability to China. And realized what they were doing as they manufactured those chips for us.

There are still manual switches all along the lines.
Might be a good idea to move closer to a dam and power house.
You could manually close the switches going to your house and close off the main lines going past your house.
You would have an unending supply of electricity and they couldn't send you a bill for it.

I'm not saying anything that isn't already out on the net, but the concerns are picking up steam.
Your right. It is an act of war.
The problem is that the source of the attack would be difficult to know with the skills hackers have today at avoiding detection.
Add that to the fact that any access to the internet to discover the source, would be short lived with national systems failing.
Huge sectors of electrical grids down! Cascading failures!

There are reserves on hand, but it's the methodologies needed to accommodate the eventualities of attacks, that the public aren't aware of that is so disconcerting. Are they even remotely close to adequate? The public needs to be aware of the vulnerabilities, as well as direction in acquiring supplies, and what supplies to maintain the safety, the security of their families. and with that, the survival of free societies.

Just think, put a few supplies away, and no worries, except for those who don't, and decide yours
look pretty good if you'd told everyone how well stocked you'd become. Or maybe
the ones who like your place better than their own, and all's good, right?
    There ya go! No worries!
