Hillary Clinton's new book about the 2016 election, What Happened, isn't set to be released until September 12, but a number of excerpts from it have recently been made public by people who received advanced copies. On Monday night, the founder of CauseWired, Tom Watson, tweeted a page that contains some of Clinton's views on Senator Bernie Sanders, his impact on her campaign and the election more generally.



In the passage Watson shared, Clinton seemed to blame Sanders for many people viewing her as too cozy with Wall Street.

"Because we agreed on so much, Bernie couldn’t make an argument against me in this area on policy, so he had to resort to innuendo and impugning my character," Clinton wrote. "When I finally challenged Bernie during a debate to name a single time I changed a position or a vote because of a financial contribution, he couldn’t come up with anything. Nonetheless, his attacks caused lasting damage, making it harder to unify progressives in the general election and paving the way for Trump’s ‘Crooked Hillary’ campaign."

Clinton also discussed the fact Sanders isn't a Democrat, something he has openly acknowledged on several occasions despite of running for president as a Democratic candidate, and used this to characterize him as a disrupter.

"[Sanders] didn’t get into the race to make sure a Democrat won the White House, he got in to disrupt the Democratic Party," she wrote.

The former secretary of state is evidently frustrated about Sanders's effect on the election and seems to have ongoing questions about his motives for running.

With that said, Clinton applauded Sanders for mobilizing young people and getting them excited about politics, and said he was right to say Democrats need to spend more time focusing on working families.

But, in the end, Clinton thinks Sanders "was fundamentally wrong" about the Democratic Party and wishes he was a "proud Democrat" like her.

Whether Clinton is correct to at least partially blame Sanders for her ultimate defeat in the general election is open to debate, but it's hard to point to any single factor for the result of the 2016 election. It was a complex, unpredictable affair that will likely be analyzed for many years to come.

Stumbler, none of these points are valid. The DNC already admitted to rigging the primaries. A huge reason why few Sanders supporters voted in the election was because even then, everyone knew the primaries were rigged.

But of course, I'm certain that Hillary said nothing of those things in the book.

Also, anyone that supported Bernie in the primary but voted for Trump in the election was in no way in the slightest a progressive.

 

I disagree. I really liked Sanders more progressive positions on many things. And while I admit the DNC should have remained neutral the reason for that is because Bernie Sanders never had a prayer of winning the primary in the first place and would have surely lost the election if he did.

The reason Sanders did as well as he did is because like Trump he was an unknown quantity that had a popular message that resonated especially with younger voters. But not with the majority of Democratic voters who were more confident in Clinton's ability to win even with all her faults. And yes the majority figured wrong.

But we can see that even now. Sanders is still way outside the mainstream and while it is great he is fighting for things like universal health care it is not something that is realistically going to happen anytime soon. Real political change happens slowly and often has many ebbs and flows before it is finally achieved.

Which is why the nation would not really elect a "Socialist." Which might not actually be fair but it is a political reality.

So we ended up in a situation just like we had in 2000 where Ralph Nader did some real damage to Al Gore and we ended up with Bush.

 

I agree with this. Hillary Clinton needs to go and live her life. Only person to blame is herself. This is what happens when you personally campaign in three states.

 

I wish someone would ask the sore loser the following question. How was it James Comey's fault that she was under a criminal investigation?

Did he actually set up the private email server?

Or Did he make her lie and say no classified information was sent over said email server?

Or Did he give access to said classified information to perverted Antony Wiener?

But you got to hand to Hillary Clinton. For the first time in history it's actually the fault of the people charged with investigating criminal activity that a person is under investigation. Not the person's own stupid decisions that required the investigation in the first place.
