  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

Socialism Viewed Positively by 36% of Americans

    Gallup February 4, 2010

PRINCETON, NJ -- More than one-third of Americans (36%) have a positive image of "socialism"...a majority of Democrats and liberals saying they have a positive view of socialism...

A majority of 53% of Democrats have a positive image of socialism...

Sixty-one percent of liberals say their image of socialism is positive.
    http://www.gallup.com/poll/125645/socialism-viewed-positively-americans.aspx

    ------

Rasmussen Reports Thursday, April 09, 2009

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better...

Adults under 30 are essentially evenly divided: 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism.
    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub.../just_53_say_capitalism_better_than_socialism

    ------

These polls are significant because no one with national name recognition is advocating socialism. I am confident that the percentage of Americans who prefer socialism is higher than it was several years ago.

Republicans and libertarians use the word "socialism" like a term of reproach. They call the President a socialist. If Obama turns the economy around, and he is beginning to, socialism will become even more popular in the United States.

If you explained why you do not like socialism, your answer was so trivial and cliche ridden that it did not register.

Google Soviet Union and Cuba. Don't forget that Germany 1933-45 was a socialist paradise. Oh yeah, works great.

Actually, what exists in Western Europe, and to a lesser extent in the British Commonwealth, is not socialism, but social democracy. Republicans and Libertarians have trouble distinguishing between the two, because the ability to make distinctions is a mark of intelligence.

Most productive wealth in Western Europe and the British Commonwealth is privately owned, but it it supplemented with a generous public sector of the economy that is financed by steeply progressive taxation.

There is nothing un American about soaking the rich. In 1944 and 1945 the top tax rate was 94%. That helped us pay for the Second World War. During the Eisenhower administration the top tax rate never got below 91%.

Many social conservatives are nostalgic for the 1950's.

Go back and read posts #37 and #38.

You reactionaries still do not understand this, but you no longer have the Soviet Union to serve as a horrible example of socialism. Now you have to explain to the 20% of the American people who are unemployed, or underemployed what is so great about their "freedom," and why they are better off than people in Western Europe and the British Commonwealth.

Let's spell it out: I don't trust Republican government as a general rule. I'm sure there are folks out there that feel likewise about Democratic government. As partisanship rises, there's a larger base of people of either side that will always say half the time they don't trust government.

Okay... well, let's try it again. "Government" is not a monolithic "other entity" - no matter how much your ideology demands you further your persecution complex. People make up government. I trust about 3/5s of the federal government. I do not trust the state government in which I currently reside. I do not trust a majority of those judges serving on the federal courts. While I trusted the President implicitly about a year ago, I do not have that same implicit trust anymore - yet, I would not claim distrust yet.

So, dumb it down for me Ace: Do I or Don't I Trust Government?

Or are stupid, dumbed-down questions just that: stupid?

Your so-called mind is way to cluttered to begin with, you just keep allowing to government to lead you around by your nose, so you dont have to do some hard thinking for yourself....

    Let's raise taxes..

I like the government. I want the government to be large, powerful, and expensive. I do not like or trust the business community.

No. There's nuance. Like I said at the top, if Pew had called me out of the blue and asked me that question, my knee-jerk would have been to say, "No." I would have then spent the rest of the day thinking about my response, as I have since this thread was posted.

Eventually, I would have come to the realization that if I had to think about it, then "No" I do not trust. Trust is implicit and doesn't require the kind of consideration I've put into this discussion since we began it.

    So, No.

As a tea party member I want less government and less taxes, less posturing from phony bureaucrats, more business opportunities, more power to the citizens and more money in their pockets so they can choose what is best for America instead of Washington DC telling us all how it's going to be. The current administration knows they have already lost any hope of reelection so you see them demonize real americans like tea party members, they want to pass as much garbage as they can and then say look what we did for you all? kinda sad. thank you :)

Even when the Republicans are in charge I trust the government more than I trust the business community. The government consists of civil servants who are mainly Democrats.
