It confounds me. Half of me wants to only allow votes from registered users and the other half knows it will cut my votes down significantly.

The fact of the matter is, people vote some of the best stories negatively for some of the stupidest reasons ever. Like that the penis size was too big, or the woman's hair was shaved below, or she wasn't a blonde, or other stupid things. I've seen readers say so in comments. That's the general public for you. They look at a story and ask "is this my personal fantasy? Does it contain what I would write if I sat down and wrote a story?" If not, they give you a negative. You don't even need to have trolls who hate you to get a perfectly good story rated down within hours of you putting it up. Registered users and people who write don't judge stories by the same stupid criteria Joe Public does. They read it and ask themselves "is this a literate cohesive piece that is generally spelled properly, and still makes you hot?" If so, they are probably not going to vote you down.

I have fretted endlessly over why some of my work has gotten so many negative votes. Even my besty-bestest work still has like 35 negatives. But when you see 500 or so positives next to it, it's kind of hard not to find some perspective. The fact is, you just can't please all the people all the time. No matter how much you want to.

The first story I wrote here was a piece of crap, and this community was more than happy to tell me allllll about it. I was mad, but it made me better. Now I just deal with the unfair negatives I feel I get, because you are right - some of the best feedback comes from anonymous readers. It is a shame, though. I wish if people didn't like my stories for some personal reason they would just go read something else. Why do they have to knock something I spent months working on? I personally NEVER negatively rate a story unless it's just hopeless, full of errors, inconsistent, short, and obviously thrown up onto the site with no work/thought/vision put into it at all. Otherwise I just don't vote at all. But obviously, that's just me.

My own 2 cents: if someone wants to troll a story, they will do so, even if they have to create endless sock accounts to be able to vote and comment. What I have noticed on my own stories is that those that I only allowed logged votes had significantly fewer votes and reads than those that I allowed anyone to vote on. So, as I see it, just allowing logged votes and comments is not going to protect you from the determined trolls, but it may discourage the average nonmember reader from reading any of your other works because they cannot vote and/or comment. As Blizzard says, you are cutting out half of your readers and voters/commenters when you only allow logged votes/comments. Personally, I don't mind the occasional troll comment and votes if it means I get more overall votes, comments, and reads. Now, if the time comes that I am being trolled to death, my attitude may change :excited:.

Letting everyone comment and vote is the best way to get reads.

If someone has it in for you they will always find a way and as far as comments some of them can be very funny and entertaining, intentional or not.

 

After thinking I was safe, and opening up my poems to comments, I realized nothing had changed and my stalker was still out there. I will never allow comments again, unless the system is changed to registered user comments only.

Aesoptails' story came across as written by an experienced writer. Her alternate endings that she posted here in the forum, showed that she can write humor, also.

 

I would like to add Rutger5 to the list, I was surprised to find he is not already on it. His story "I Give My Niece A Ride" is currently a huge hit. He has also submitted a very good competition entry; along with a host of other stories which I have just discovered.

Personally, I would recommend CoolNix and Lubrican. Thoughtful, well-written, and plenty of taboo action to titillate. Although, CoolNix hasn't written in a while, so you only have a couple of long, good stories there. Lubrican is more prolific.

Does anyone know what happened to a user by the name of "ka humd" or something close to that? He had some of the best stories on here I've ever read (a certain mind control series comes to mind) but then one day I see absolutely no trace of him.

 

The stories by Ka Hmnd have been removed from the site, I guess by the request of the author. He/she is listed as an 'author emeritus' on this thread. Perhaps someone, familiar with the author, can further explain.
