I too think a nefarious competitor may be at work sometimes on the main story site's first page. I guess a writer must develop a thick skin if you write much for the readers here. You'll have good days and bad. Like they say, sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield!

As for one of my latest stories, recently it was the bug with the number one spot on Page 1 for a few hours! A word of advice; DON'T aim for the number one spot! It's a shooting gallery for every perfectionist critic, every jealous competitor, and every general asshole around! A lead like that can evaporate so quickly it'll make your head spin. My top-rated story became the windshield and fell completely off Page 1...

At this moment (12:11 PM, April 8, 2010) I'm waiting for some hits. I just found 2 of my stories on page 1, so I'm waiting for the bugs to get splattered.

Tutoring Position, by Laura Adams

It is unique, touches on lesbian sexual activities but is worth a read in my opinion. Basically a wealthy mother is looking for a tutor for her teen daughter who has a rare condition. The position pays well, but there is a catch...

The rediscovery of a long repressed sexuality and an initially reluctant acceptance of the exceptions this new employment requires of college student Laura create the motivation to read on. I recommend this story based on its originality and general ability of the author Laura Adams to present such a scenario in a readable fashion.

 

Tutoring Position

On your recommendation, I read the story. I like the basic idea, but there were too many technical problems that interfered with my enjoyment of it. Not really grammar/spelling, but just problems with handling the storytelling. And some continuity problems.

The mysterious "rare condition" doesn't seem to be handled all that smoothly and at one point I had to check to make sure it was actually written by a female.

And unless there's going to be further chapters, the ending just sorta leaves one hanging. Leaving one wanting more is OK, and this one does, but the ending could be a bit smoother. Less rushed, maybe? And I found myself skimming forward a lot at times.

I think everything could be corrected by some good copy editing and proof reading, but that applies to the vast majority of stories here. If people would set the stories aside for a week or two, then re-read and proof it with "new eyes", it would make a big difference.

I hope Laura continues to write, and grow as an author. Like I said, I liked it, but some of the things were jarring and interfered with my enjoyment of it.

Have to agree with the Crannon on that one. It was a good story but the continuity error: she had a key in her robe pocket, she took off her robe and went in another room with the lock. while naked and not in the room with the robe grabbed the key from nowhere and unlocked the lock.
that threw me off enough that, there I lost the momentum and it was unable to reestablish the flow.
I hope that she keeps writing I didn't have the issue Ole did about the disorder, just allowed it to be glossed over without a fuss. I'd read the sequel if/when there is one.

 

I just completed a real 'labor of love'. That is, thanks to the help of a very nice person I was able to locate the stories of a pretty wonderful storyteller who left this site about 2 years ago and had all his stories removed.

I loved his stories and have missed them ever since.

Well, now I have his stories and have just finished reading them again. I find that I still love his stories.

I believe this writer left this site because of the very nasty comments by the trolls and having completed this project, I am even more dedicated to supporting the writers by recommendations here when warranted and by reviews on the story reviews thread. I don't want to lose another of my favorite writers.

In case anyone is interested, I am currently putting the finishing touches to a new story. It's nothing to do with my previous three and much more extreme (although compared to some here, it's tame). It also features a lady most will know and I hope to have at least a preview up in the forums by the end of the week, which will come the minute it's been submitted to the actually site... So you know, I already have the preview finished and it features no sex, just build. I've spent a lot of time on the story site of late simply reading stories and enjoying them, and I found that my enjoyment was heavily enhanced by a slow build towards something intense. I hope that this coming story will be a success at that exact formula.

 

I hope so too. That's just the kind of story that I enjoy. I'd rather read a Stove Top story (one that gradually heats up over time like a pot on the stove) than a Microwave story (one that heats up quickly, leaving out any sense of anticipation). As long as it's worth the wait.

I was reminded, by a very fine writer, of another of our wonderful authors (I almost said 'us') who left this site about the same time as Tarkas3 - Peter Pecker, also from down under, although I don't know what he was under, who left about the time XNXX changed the rating system from 1 - 10 to the current pos/neg. I felt from the beginning that this system made it more difficult to down-grade a story than the old 1 - 10 system. One of us has told me that that change effectively relegated those old, established writers to the dust bin and allowed newer writers to exceed their % numbers.

I don't really know what caused these, to my estimation, fine and valuable writers to leave, but looking at some of the comments on some of the stories posted by Tarkas3 filled me with shame for his treatment. Our cute little shit-head, the obama-troll, has nothing on those commenting on his stories. Shame.

Losing one writer is a sorrow, losing more is a tragedy. What to do? Sad.

 

What to do? We keep fighting for fair change, encourage new writers while being honest, and support the talent that is here. It's everything you've always done, Don.
