I hesitate to start the process all over again (after another great job by DC) but I wrote a review of a story by Rebeca Lewis and said that someone should recommend her for the list. Nobody did and I felt I had nominated enough on this newest list so I want to put Rebeca Lewis' name in for the NEXT list... and just did.

I guess I first read this post before you edited it. I seem to remember that you said that you had recommended Rebeca Lewis and he did not show up on the list. I have just finished a jaunt back in time (about 4 pages) and found no recommendation from you for Rebeca Lewis.

Like I said, I guess I read it before the final edit session.

You're right, Don. I reviewed a story by Rebeca and said, in the review, that someone should recommend her (MY mistake... it IS a HER) to the list. I didn't do it back then so I'm doing it now. I didn't want to recommend too many at one time.

You must be cursed. No matter what you say or do, for some reason people take it the wrong way and get offended. It's happened half a dozen times since you've come to the site. When you sided with the authors and complained about the website, those very authors got offended. When you had an idea for improving the Recommended Writers list, people jumped on your case about trying to change something that needed no change. When you came up with the fun and humorous idea of a Recommended Writers sig, you got called an "elitist." People have even taken offense at your apologies.

I applaud you for sticking around instead of storming off in a huff like so many others have done. (Please don't, by the way)

 

As much, sometimes, as I would like to see ELP storm off in a huff (or anything else), I must agree, for the sake of our community, that I do want to see him stick around. We have lost too many.

This is going to be the only thing I will say on this matter. And I apologize for bringing it up as I, too, wish to see the bickering stop.

First off, I want to thank DC for pointing out what has been painfully obvious to me for several weeks now and also thank him for doing what I have been too afraid to do myself. Second, I must apologize to Emerson for my lack of backbone in not sticking up for someone whom I consider to be a very good friend.

I have tried very, very hard to stay on everyone's good side. I was raised during a time when children were taught that if you didn't have anything nice to say then you don't say anything at all. And I have tried very hard to stick with that. So I have sat by for many weeks now and kept my mouth shut because I did not want to lose what little bit of respect I had managed to build up with the writers and readers of this forum. My motto has always been 'don't rock the boat' and so I have tried to not piss anyone off.

In all honesty, in the last week I have been hunting for another site to go to because I have become so disgusted with the way readers and writers are treating each other on this forum that I simply could not take it any more. I have not wanted to read or participate in the forums, read any new stories, or even bother to write anything new because I figured that if I bothered to post anything it would just get ripped to shreds like so many other stories on here. And I don't just mean by ugly trolls. And now, for the first time, I understand why AP and so many other writers have left here, even though I honestly feel that XN is about the only site that I will truly be happy in as a writer. But at this point I am beginning to be willing to sacrifice my artistic imagination if it means getting away from all the name calling, bickering, and back stabbing.

I have tried to help and encourage new writers because I know how hard it is to open yourself up to the kind of rejection that you get as a writer. I know you are going to get ripped up, but after twenty-five years it hasn't gotten any easier. I expect readers to be cruel. But I find it positively heart-breaking that other writers can be so cruel to fellow writers. Even if you are not willing to admit it, it hurts when someone puts your work down. Even if it is just a tiny bit, it hurts.

We have a wonderful community here, most of the time. And we also have seen, still have, and hopefully will get some of the best writers that the erotica culture has to offer. I know that not all people are not going to get along. That's just life. And I know we are going to have drama. I can live with that. But can we put the angry issues against other things besides each other, please.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone. It is not my intention to offend or piss anyone off. This is how I feel and at the moment I felt I had to get this off my chest. My apologies to everyone.

 

Gee Nicola, I'm sorry you feel that way. I honestly have never seen a writer put down another's work. At least not one that identifies him or herself.

Trolls are a fact of life. More than anything, that is where I would like to see changes made to the site. Give us the power to better protect ourselves. The new scoring system is not working and we need help on commenting. I hope you're around to see those changes happen, some day.
