Yeah Ron xDeSanctimoniou what kind of evil corruption and motive have you got going here? Everyone knows Trump is pure as driven snow and you must be making payoffs and getting kick backs.

Trump Flips Out at Ron DeSantis’ Payments to Satirical News Site

Donald Trump attacked both Ron DeSantis and The Babylon Bee over payments made by the Florida governor to the right-wing satirical news site. Alongside screenshots showing undated payments from DeSantis to the outlet, Trump asked on his Truth Social platform on Thursday night: “Why is Ron DeSanctimonious paying The Babylon Bee, a non-entity, $5,000 a month, so far $21,500, if he’s not running for President?” DeSantis, who is expected to run against Trump in the 2024 election, has yet to formally declare his candidacy. “Just because his Poll Numbers are tanking, probably because of his desire to cut Social Security and Medicare, doesn’t allow him to campaign without an announcement!” Trump fumed. “You don’t spend that much money on The Babylon Bee if you’re running for Governor, in fact, you don’t spend money on The Babylon Bee if you’re running for anything!” Last year, the Miami Herald reported that DeSantis’ gubernatorial re-election campaign committee and an associated political action committee paid The Babylon Bee $15,000 in 2021 “for services related to online fundraising, according to state campaign finance records.”

'Ron wants him locked up': MAGA faithful rage as DeSantis won't interfere in Trump extradition

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday said his office would not block the extradition of Donald Trump to New York and even took a shot at the former president for making hush money payments to an adult film star.

While DeSantis did also accuse Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of running a politicized investigation into the former president, many hardcore Trump supporters were enraged that he repeated the allegations being leveled against the former president when he said, "I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over an alleged affair."

"Basically Ron DeSantis is trying to call President Trump a liar over the news that President Trump may be indicted and arrested," fumed MAGA influencer and failed GOP congressional candidate Laura Loomer. "He also kept repeating the word 'porn star' in an effort to mock President Trump."

Juanita Broderick, a Trump supporter who in the past accused former President Bill Clinton of raping her, called DeSantis' remarks on Trump "too little... too late."

RELATED: Right-wing broadcaster calls for Barack Obama and others to be executed if Trump is arrested

Trump supporter Alex Bruesewitz, meanwhile, accused DeSantis of essentially being in cahoots with Democrats in arresting the former president.

"The Biden regime is trying to lock up their number one political opponent, that’s an issue that matters to all sane Americans!" he charged. "Sadly, Ron wants Trump locked up just as much as the Dems do."

Grace Chong, the CFO of Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast, simple wrote an angry all-caps response to DeSantis' statement: "WTF IS THIS."

The perfect mini-Trump. Take something that is really doing good that defies you. Scream the attack. Blow it up. Make lots of howling headlines. Then hide behind the scenes while real people come in and try to put it back together again. Just a lot of noise and wholesale destruction. So DeSantis could pretend he won.

DeSantis tussle, Disney World will host a major summit on gay rights

    1.1k

Wed, March 22, 2023 at 3:30 AM MDT

The Walt Disney Company will host a major conference promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the workplace in Central Florida this September, gathering executives and professionals from the world’s largest companies in a defiant display of the limits of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign against diversity training.

Disney’s decision to host the conference this fall comes amid a yearlong dispute between the company and the Republican governor, who signed a law that ended decades of autonomy at the Disney resort. It was seen as punishment over the company’s opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education legislation, known widely as the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which prohibits any discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms before fourth grade.

Disney has had a longstanding relationship with Out & Equal, the organization behind the event, and is listed on its website as one of its most generous sponsors.

READ MORE: Army vet, charity fundraiser tell lawmakers why their drag shows shouldn’t be restricted

The Florida resort has committed to hosting the conference this year and next, which will coincide with the presidential election campaign in 2024. DeSantis is widely expected to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

Michael Chamberlain, chief marketing officer for Out & Equal, confirmed to McClatchy that the conference would be held at The Walt Disney World Resort, Sept. 11-14. Last year’s summit was held in Las Vegas.

Dozens of iconic American companies — including Apple, McDonald’s, Uber, Walmart, Hilton, Amazon, Boeing, Cracker Barrel and John Deere — are sponsoring the Out & Equal Workplace summit, which over 5,000 people are expected to attend. Several agencies, including the State Department and the CIA, are listed as government partners and will have booths at the conference.

The conference comes after DeSantis declared victory over Disney in February when he signed a law that gave him the power to appoint a five-member board overseeing government services at the Disney district near Orlando.

“Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” DeSantis said when he signed the bill. “This is what accountability looks like.”

READ MORE: House Republicans want to force an end to current treatment for transgender minors

In his recently released book, DeSantis describes how, after “Disney declared war on Florida families” by opposing the Parental Rights in Education bill and “indulged in woke activism,’’ he asked the Legislature “to reevaluate — and even eliminate — Disney’s special deal.” DeSantis married his wife, Casey, at the Disney World resort in 2009.

Squaring off against Disney was “a political battle that would reverberate across the nation,’’ he wrote.

The subsequent legislation left most of Disney’s special powers in place despite the governor’s attempt to dissolve the district. The conservative members the governor appointed to the board hinted at the first meeting of the new board that they would exercise leverage over Disney, such as prohibiting COVID-19 restrictions at Disney World. But legal experts have said that the new board’s authority has no control over Disney content.

Hosting the conference is another demonstration of the limits on the Republican governor’s ability to influence the content and scope of events at Disney.

    ‘Largest LGBTQ+ conference’
Out & Equal says its summit “is the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world,” bringing executives, employee resource group leaders, human resource professionals and experts in diversity, equity and inclusion together to promote equality.

“Over more than 20 years, Summit has grown to become the preferred place to network and share strategies that create inclusive workplaces, where everyone belongs and where LGBTQ+ employees can be out and thrive,” the website states.

DeSantis has campaigned against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, pushing for them to be eliminated at state colleges and universities in Florida and asserting that the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank was caused by its focus on DEI programs.

He has accused large corporations that engage in DEI training of attempting to “advance woke ideology through its employee ranks — and virtue signal in the process.”

Rep. Randy Fine, a Palm Bay Republican who last year sponsored the bill to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which governed land use, fire protection, and sewer services on the Disney resort, said he had never heard of the summit and was not troubled by it.

“I’m not willing to interpret it as some grand conspiracy to stick it in the eye of the state of Florida,” Fine said Monday. “Disney is part of the fabric of the Florida economy. ... If they weren’t holding any conferences at Disney World, that would be news because that would be a big problem.”

He said that even the Legislature used to hold annual events at the resort “before all this woke stuff took over” and that, as a former gambling industry executive, he knows that in organizing a large conference, “there are only two places where you can have a conference and increase your attendance — Las Vegas and Orlando.”

Last year’s Out & Equal conference in Las Vegas included multiple speakers who advocated for the rights of transgender youth, and provided attendees with guidance on how to navigate anti-LGBTQ bills at the state level.

    Year of tension
Tension between DeSantis and Disney arose last spring, when Disney publicly opposed Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The measure prohibits discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, and in older grades when deemed “not age-appropriate.”

When Disney officials did not publicly lobby against the measure, some employees marched out of the company’s California headquarters in protest. Others urged executives to join corporations that were condemning DeSantis, who signed the bill into law.

After Disney published a statement demanding that the law be repealed, DeSantis retaliated by expanding the agenda of a special session on redistricting to include dissolving Disney’s special taxing district. An obscure provision in state law prohibits the state from dissolving the district until its bond debt — which amounted to more than $1 billion — was paid off.

In April, Disney quietly sent a note to its investors to show that it was confident the Legislature’s attempt to dissolve the special taxing district violated the “pledge” the state made when it enacted the district in 1967, and therefore was not legal.

Disney’s decision to host this year’s Out & Equal summit was announced several months later, to participants of the 2022 conference held in October.

After more than nine months of stalemate, legislators approved a measure in February that renames Reedy Creek as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, and the Disney-appointed board was replaced by conservatives named by DeSantis. But the measure also leaves most of the district’s special powers intact, including the company’s ability to tax itself to pay off its $1 billion in debt.

DeSantis’ office did not respond to requests for comment. Spokespeople for Disney declined to comment.

'Grooming young girls': Fox News host hits Ron DeSantis for 'drinking party with young women'

    Fox News/screen grab

Fox News host Howard Kurtz argued on Sunday that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should not have been at a "drinking party with young women" when he was a teacher.

During a panel discussion about former President Donald Trump's attacks on DeSantis, Kurtz noted that the Florida governor faced criticism over allegations that he partied with students when he was a teacher in Florida.

"Trump is actually questioning DeSantis' sexuality and recycling a two-decade-old suggestion about grooming young girls when he was a high school teacher again 20 years ago," Kurtz said. "Maybe he shouldn't have been at a drinking party with young women when he was a teacher, but there hasn't even been a whisper of an allegation... Did he have any relationship with any of these students?"

ALSO IN THE NEWS: Trump's yawn-inducing Waco 'pity party' buried by former GOP adviser

Kurtz argued that the media should come to DeSantis' defense because there were no claims that he had a relationship with the women.

"Why doesn't the press challenge this?" he asked.

Ron DeSantis is facing another ethics complaint — this time accusing him of accepting a $235,000, 3-day retreat to the Four Seasons Palm Beach

    • Democrat Nikki Fried filed an ethics complaint on DeSantis accusing him of "accepting prohibited gifts."

    • The complaint accused DeSantis of going on a $235,000 donor-funded retreat at the Four Seasons Palm Beach.

    • On March 14, Trump's super PAC, MAGA Inc., filed a similar ethics complaint against DeSantis.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been hit with another ethics complaint — this time, from Nikki Fried, the Democratic Party chair in Florida.

Fried tweeted a copy of her complaint on Monday. In her tweet, she accused DeSantis of improperly using funds from donors and "accepting prohibited gifts" from the DeSantis-linked political action committee, Friends of Ron DeSantis.

In her complaint to the Florida ethics commission, Fried, the state's former commissioner of agriculture, outlined what she believes to be an inappropriate use of funds from the DeSantis-linked PAC.This included, per Fried's complaint, more than $235,000 spent on a three-day retreat to the Four Seasons Palm Beach in February.

More than 150 people including DeSantis supporters and donors were invited to Florida in February for a weekend retreat, per Politico. The guest list included Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton. The event was meant to celebrate the launch of DeSantis' book, "The Courage to Be Free: Florida's Blueprint," Politico reported.

According to campaign finance records seen by Insider, the $235,244.52 paid to the Four Season Palm Beach on February 21, 2023, was logged as an event expense.

Fried also cited other expenses from the Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC as evidence of spending that was "not primarily related to contributions, expenditures, or other political activities" allowed under state law. This included a bill from the Four Seasons Miami, and a receipt for a meal at a Miami steakhouse called the Dirty French, per Fried.

Insider saw campaign finance records from the Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC that logged a $142,388.65 payment to the Four Seasons as a meeting expense. The finance records also designated a $11,805.90 bill from the Dirty French steakhouse as a food and beverage expense.

"Florida law prohibits Ron DeSantis or a member of his immediate family from soliciting or knowingly accepting, directly or indirectly, any gift from a political committee," Fried wrote in her complaint.

On March 14, Make America Great Again Inc., a super PAC linked to former President Donald Trump, filed a similar ethics complaint against DeSantis.

MAGA Inc.'s complaint accused DeSantis of soliciting and receiving "millions of dollars worth of illegal gifts in violation of Florida State ethics laws and the Florida Constitution," per a copy of the document obtained by NBC News.

A DeSantis spokesperson denied both MAGA Inc. and Fried's allegations in a tweet on Monday.

"Just like the one from two weeks ago, we'll just add this to the list of frivolous & politically motivated attacks," DeSantis' spokeswoman Taryn Fenske tweeted, responding to Fried's complaint. "Louder for the Dems in the back: It's inappropriate to use ethics complaints for partisan purposes."

DeSantis has not officially announced a 2024 presidential bid, but he will be Trump's biggest rival if he does choose to run.

Fried and a spokeswoman for DeSantis did not immediately reply to Insider's requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.

Trump Scores His ‘Biggest Lead Yet’ Over DeSantis in Latest Republican Primary Poll

Donald Trump scored yet another big poll victory over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in a hypothetical 2024 matchup for potential Republican primary voters.

In a Morning Consult poll published on Tuesday, of some 3,600 “potential Republican primary voters” almost 60 percent said they preferred Trump to DeSantis in a 2024 matchup. Trump topped the poll with 56 percent support in the survey while DeSantis trailed him with 23 percent support — a 33-point margin.

DeSantis is only a potential 2024 candidate thus far as the governor has not made an official announcement.

Every candidate or potential candidate offered in the poll scored significantly less, with Mike Pence and Nikki Haley following Trump and DeSantis at just 7 percent and 4 percent support — respectively. Liz Cheney meanwhile scored 3 percent while every other option nabbed just 1 percent or less.

Morning Consult noted that Trump’s lead over DeSantis is the biggest they have recorded since they polled the match-up beginning in December. The margin of error for the poll is two percent. Practically non-existent in the poll was former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) who recently announced his 2024 candidacy. A majority of respondents told Morning Consult they weren’t even aware the Republican had announced his candidacy last week with 68 percent saying they were unaware he was running.

Over 60 percent of respondents also said they support efforts to probe Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s recent indictment of Trump. The survey results also suggested potential Republican primary voters are 27 percent more likely to hear negative news about the former president than positive news.

The poll follows another poll showing voters favoring Trump over DeSantis. A Yahoo/YouGov released recently following Trump’s indictment found Trump leading DeSantis 57 percent to 31 percent.

    • Trump's team has accused Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of running an unofficial 2024 campaign.

    • In an email, the Trump campaign said DeSantis is engaging in "taxpayer-funded globetrotting."

    • The accusation comes after MAGA Inc., a Trump super PAC, filed an ethics complaint against DeSantis.
Former President Donald Trump's team has launched a fresh attack on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, accusing him of "taxpayer-funded globetrotting."

An email from the Trump campaign on Monday accused DeSantis of not formally declaring a 2024 presidential run and using his governor's salary to fund unofficial campaign travels.

"Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is currently on a month-long, taxpayer-funded presidential campaign schedule paid for by Florida taxpayers, and new questions are emerging as to whether this will force DeSantis to resign from office," read the campaign's email.

Under Florida's "resign to run" law, candidates running for other offices must resign from their current post at least 10 days before running for the position they desire.

The Trump campaign email accused DeSantis of planning a countrywide tour this month, including stops in Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, Ohio, New Hampshire, Utah, Texas, and South Carolina.

The Trump campaign also said that DeSantis is using international trips to "score some last-minute foreign policy credentials for his 2024 presidential campaign" and further accused the governor of "taxpayer-funded globetrotting."

The governor has plans to visit Japan in April, per the Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese news outlet that cited sources familiar with the matter. The Florida governor also intends to visit Israel, per the Associated Press.

"Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to campaign full-time for president, during the Florida legislative session, while collecting a salary and having the taxpayers pick up the costs for his travel and security. It's a massive flip-flop from his position in 2018," Steven Cheung, a Trump spokesman, said in the email.

Cheung did not provide further evidence or substantiation to support his claim that tax dollars fund DeSantis' overseas and domestic travels.

The Trump campaign's fresh accusations come weeks after Florida Democrat Nikki Fried filed an ethics complaint against DeSantis. The March 27 complaint accused DeSantis of attending a $235,000 donor-funded retreat at the Four Seasons in Palm Beach, Florida.

Separately, MAGA Inc. — a Trump-linked super PAC —filed an ethics complaint against DeSantis on March 14. The complaint accused DeSantis of soliciting and receiving "millions of dollars worth of illegal gifts in violation of Florida State ethics laws and the Florida Constitution," per a copy of the document obtained by NBC News.

If DeSantis officially announces his 2024 bid, he will be Trump's biggest rival for the GOP presidential ticket.

And while DeSantis has not officially announced a 2024 presidential run, he has been visiting cities around the US as part of a tour for his new book, "The Courage to Be Free: Florida's Blueprint for America's Revival." His book tour is widely regarded as a precursor to his presidential run.

Representatives for Trump and DeSantis did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider sent outside of regular business hours.

    • DeSantis takes different tack on Social Security, Medicare than when he was in Congress

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ book promotion tour is taking him across the country, and his congressional voting record appears to be along for the ride.

Since his book, “The Courage to Be Free,” was released Feb. 28, DeSantis has stopped in Texas, Iowa and California. DeSantis Watch, a project of the left-leaning advocacy groups Progress Florida and Florida Watch, ran advertisements in some of those places on social media to counter DeSantis’ speeches with reminders of his votes in the U.S. House.

RELATED: 5 highlights from DeSantis’ book, ‘The Courage to Be Free’
“Ron DeSantis wants to raise the retirement age to 70,” said one digital advertisement meant to coincide with his March 4 fundraiser in Dallas.

The group is referring to DeSantis’ vote on a nonbinding budget resolution in 2013. His past support of reining in spending on Medicare and Social Security is a consistent line of attack from his opponents, including former President Donald Trump.

The ads use the word “wants,” suggesting current support, while a press release from DeSantis Watch more accurately refers to how he “voted” to increase the retirement age.

DeSantis walked back support of reforming Social Security and Medicare
First, let’s clarify what then-Rep. DeSantis voted for in 2013.

Budget resolutions are symbolic statements of a policy preference; even if they pass, they do not become law.

In 2013, with Republicans controlling the House, DeSantis joined 103 Republicans on a failed resolution that called for raising the age to qualify for Medicare and Social Security to 70, according to a Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget analysis.

The measure also supported a transition of Medicare, a program funded by the federal government, to a premium support system, for which the federal government would designate a pot of money for each beneficiary to spend on a private insurance plan.

The resolution’s text stated the measure would have affected future beneficiaries; it says, “those in or near retirement will see no changes.”

DeSantis’ support of the measure wouldn’t have surprised his constituents.

In a 2012 interview with the St. Augustine Record, DeSantis said the U.S. needs to “start to restructure the program in a way that’s going to be financially sustainable, both Social Security and Medicare.”

DeSantis was also a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, which advocated fiscal conservatism.

He went mum on the issue of addressing the exponential cost of Medicare and Social Security after he became governor in 2019.

In 2023, with DeSantis’ past votes in the limelight, as he considers a presidential bid, he’s been prompted to answer where he stands.

“Look, I have more seniors here than just about anyone as a percentage,” DeSantis told Fox News’ Dana Perino on March 2. “You know, we’re not going to mess with Social Security as Republicans. I think that that’s pretty clear.”

DeSantis cited Florida’s large older population for his changed stance. The governor’s office did not offer additional insight about DeSantis’ current position and suggested PolitiFact refer to his “direct” comments about reforming entitlements.

Although Republicans and Democrats have vowed to protect entitlement programs, that promise ignores reality: Without some intervention, for instance, Social Security’s trust funds will run out by about 2034.

    Our ruling
DeSantis Watch claimed DeSantis “wants to raise the retirement age to 70.”

In the present tense, that’s misleading. When he was in the House, DeSantis voted for a 2013 budget resolution that proposed raising the Social Security retirement age to 70.

At the time, DeSantis said he wanted to make the programs “financially sustainable” for younger generations. More than a decade later, and ahead of a possible GOP presidential primary, DeSantis walked back that stance, telling Fox News in early March that he would not “mess with” entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

The ad contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression. We rate it Mostly False.

This is actually just hilarious. First it proves DeDantis will gladly change his story for his own political gain. Second, it begs the glaring question was DeSantis lying then or is he lying now. But third and much worse I am sitting out in the middle of a red state nowhere and I am seeing these ads on my own TV. And if they are playing out in nowhere they are playing everywhere. And I know for a fact the vast majority of people where I live sure as fuck aren't going to be checking Politifact to see if the ads are true or nor. And telling lies is how Trump wins.

Especially since DeSantis is too much of a crooked coward to even declare he is running for president let alone stand up to Trump and his constant attacks. Which is why Trump is now leading DeSantis by 30 points in one of the latest polls. And you know there is nothing we progressive/liberal/Democrats want more than treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans to nominate Trump again

I just saw a poll where Trump is now leading DeCantis by 30 points. And a lot of that is because DeSantis might have treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans in Florida fooled and cowed but outside Florida DeSantis and his phony culture wars are despised.

And I am not even sure how much longer DeSantis can keep fooling the people of Florida. I was shocked to see this flooding in Florida this morning. Here are some photos of it.

And so where is DeSantis? This is the kind of thing governors are supposed to instantly respond to. Its his job. And obviously DeSantis is too busy secretly running for president while Trump ass fucks him with no lube to do his job.

South Florida has been experiencing historic flooding this week, but the mayor of one city in the region says that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be missing in action.

A video posted by independent journalist Chris Nelson shows Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis being asked if he's heard from the Florida governor yet -- and he replied in the negative.

"Gov. DeSantis has not yet called," he said. "I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm sure that he's very interested in what's going on here and we're happy to work with his office. In the meantime, the state agencies, we've been working with them... I'm not sure the governor needs to be involved but the state agencies have been very helpful."

A spokesperson for Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie told Nelson that "Director Guthrie has been proactively reaching out to the city and county on behalf of the DeSantis Administration" and added that "we have yet to receive a request for assistance from Broward or Ft. Lauderdale, but the state is still sending resources to assist Floridians."

"Ron DeSantis got elected because of me. You remember he had nothing. He was dead, he was leaving the race. He came over and he begged me, begged me for an endorsement," Trump alleges "He was getting ready to drop out." Actually Trump is kind of right about this. DeSantis proves he's nothing. Trump slaps him around like his little bitch on a daily bases. DeSantis is too much of a weakling coward to even stand up for himself. So oh yeah that's the kind of guy that can stand up for the country.

When even someone from “The Young Turks” is apologizing for promoting a so-called “whistleblower” and calling her a “grifter,” you can tell the game is up.

In a video posted Thursday, Ana Kasparian, co-host of the far-left political show, apologized for her role in promoting Rebekah Jones — a former Florida Department of Health data analyst once considered a hero and a whistleblower for accusing GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration of trying to get her to alter COVID-19 data in the state.

A report by Florida’s inspector general later found those claims to be untrue — and her colleagues said she didn’t even have access to the data she accused DeSantis-ites of asking her to alter.

Furthermore, she was in the headlines again this week after her son was arrested for threats of school violence; she claimed he was “kidnapped” by police for nothing but mere memes … and then tried to fundraise off her son’s arrest.

This was apparently the final straw for Kasparian, whose show was one of many left-wing outlets to give Jones’ accusations air when they first surfaced in 2020.

Kasparian, who is also the executive producer of the show, said she “screwed up royally” in Jones’ case.

“Part of the reason why I screwed up is because I had all these biases, of course, against Ron DeSantis,” she said in the mea culpa video, adding she was “blind[ed]” by the fact she doesn’t think the Florida governor has done a good job. She added “I don’t really feel bad about” being biased, just “by allowing someone who might be a grifter” to use her.

“I should’ve done my due diligence, I failed to do so. And by failing to do so, I feel like I misled the audience into thinking that Rebekah Jones is some sort of hero,” Kasparian said.

However, she blamed the “mainstream media” for also buying into Jones’ anti-DeSantis narrative, noting that “independent” news sources like “The Young Turks” would find themselves repeating the same errors that those doing original reporting were.

The apology came after Jones’ viral claims that DeSantis’ “fascist” state was involved in “kidnapping” her son didn’t actually add up to the available evidence.

Jones’ 13-year-old son was arrested, according to the Pensacola News Journal, after sending messages to his friends saying things such as, “I want to shoot up the school,” “If I get a gun I’m gonna shoot up hnms lol,” and “I’m getting a wrath and natural selection shirt so maybe but I don’t think many ppl know what the columbine shooters look like.”

“Okay so it’s been like 3-4 weeks since I got on my new antidepressants and they aren’t working but they’re suppose to by now so I have no hope in getting better so why not kill the losers at school,” he said in another missive.

“I spoke to students from [Holley Navarre Middle School] and was able to obtain screenshots of (the teen’s) Snapchat post containing threats,” the warrant report for his arrest read. “… The screen shots were a meme that shows a brain, with the brain saying, ‘reach for the officer’s gun,’ and underneath was a caption which said, ‘me every time I see school security.’”

While he had recently been a student at the school, the report states, he had since departed and was being homeschooled.

Jones went on Twitter on April 5 and claimed her son was “kidnapped” on the “orders” of “the state.”

And, of course, she also used the opportunity to fundraise.

Is Disney Throwing Up the White Flag? CEO Extends Offer to DeSantis After Gov Threatens Taxes
    [IMG]
By Randy DeSoto April 14, 2023 at 5:19pm
Time in an interview published Thursday regarding the ongoing tension, most recently regarding governing authority over the land where Disney’s theme parks reside in the Sunshine State.

“If the governor of Florida wants to meet with me to discuss all of this, of course, I would be glad to do that,” Iger added.

The CEO further explained that he is the type of person “that typically has respected our elected officials and the responsibility that they have” and would see no reason why he and DeSantis could not meet.

The “all of this” Iger mentioned goes back at least to March of 2022, when the governor signed the parental rights bill into law.

The “Don’t Say Gay” bill, as critics labeled it, stands for the basic, widely accepted tenet that students in kindergarten through third grade should not be taught about sexuality and gender identity, and for older students, it should be age-appropriate.

DeSantis told Fox News in February that as governor and the father of a 6-, 4- and 2-year-old, his primary concern was protecting the innocence of kids.

“When this issue came up with the sexualization of the curriculum, of course in Florida we think that that’s inappropriate,” the Republican said.

DeSantis gave credit to the left for trying the Disney angle to get him not to sign the Parental Rights bill “because for 60 years in the state of Florida they have gotten every single thing they want from the state of Florida until I became governor, and we said, ‘No, you’re not running the state of Florida; we’re running the state of Florida.’”

To prove that point, DeSantis signed legislation ending the Disney district’s special self-governing status in Florida the month after approving the parental rights bill.

Further, in February, he signed a bill into law requiring the governor to appoint “a five-member board to oversee the government services that the Disney district provides.”

“Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” DeSantis said at a bill-signing ceremony in Lake Buena Vista at the time. “There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day.”

The new law designates the area, which encompasses the Disney theme parks, as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. Previously, it was the Reedy Creek Improvement District, with a board elected by its landowners, with Disney being dominant.

Shortly before its dissolution, the Reedy Creek board voted to strip the district of most of its governing powers and cede them over to the Disney corporation, The Hill reported.

An official with DeSantis’ office told WESH-TV in March that the new agreement made by the outgoing board likely will not stand.

“At an initial glance, the contracts that were shoved through at the last minute are likely void as a matter of law,” the official said in a statement.

DeSantis noted at the time, “There’s a lot of little back and forth going on now with the state control,” adding, “But rest assured — you ain’t seen nothing yet. There’s more to come in that regard.”

Following last year’s controversy between Disney and DeSantis and disappointing box office numbers for “Lightyear” and some other Disney films, the company’s board fired then-CEO Bob Chapek in November and replaced him with Iger, who had been CEO of Disney from 2005 to 2020.

Upon taking the helm, Iger said he planned to “quiet things down” on the political front.

Iger told Time, “Our sole goal in Florida is to continue creating that value for all those constituencies. All we want is a relationship with the state that enables us to continue to do that.

“We have the wherewithal and we have the desire to continue to invest there to grow that business so that we can hire more people so that we can increase our attendance, and so that we can basically increase more value for the Walt Disney Company and for the state of Florida,” he added.

    “It’s that simple.”

Well, here’s hoping Iger can get the company with a storied history — literally and figuratively — back onto firm, family-friendly ground.

Yes sometimes we on the left get burned by dishonest people and bad actors. But you never see us constantly lying and employing psychological projection as a strategy and method of operation like the right wing false propaganda noise machine. Like Fox News screaming the 2020 election was stolen after they knew for facts from Trump's own inner circle and campaign those were just lies. Have you seen Fox News or anyone else including treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans on this forum admit that was a lie and apologize for it?

So I will show you something else here. Personally I don't pay any attention to The Young Turks and don't know anyone who does. In fact I think I might have watched less than a half dozen of their shows when they were on MSNBC before I decided they were a bullshit waste of my time and have ignored them ever since. And that was more than ten years ago.

But even TYT can at least admit when they made a mistake and correct and retract. Just like this.

I want to correct all of those errors that we had previously reported. And I want to be clear that out of everyone who works on the main show, the only person who should be held responsible for that is me. I’m the executive producer of the show and I screwed up royally.

And part of the reason why I screwed up is because I had all of these biases, of course, against Ron DeSantis. And I don’t really feel bad about that because I think Ron DeSantis has done some pretty terrible things in the state of Florida, but it becomes a problem when that bias blinds you to what the facts of various stories happen to be.

And I should have done my due diligence, I failed to do so, and by failing to do so, I feel like I misled the audience into thinking that Rebekah Jones was some sort of hero.

    https://www.mediaite.com/tv/i-screw...ologizes-for-past-reporting-on-rebekah-jones/

That is the difference between left wing media and the right wing false propaganda noise machine. When the left or MSM gets it wrong they admit it, try to correct the record and apologize. When just flat out lying by right wing media is their business model.
