Nothing much will come out of this controversy except maybe higher ratings for Rush's show. The advertisers who are getting cold feet will be easily replaced, then they will come back.

Lots of advertisers are reluctant to advertise on any political show out of fear that they will alienate potential customers. If you're selling shampoo or cars or hamburgers, you don't want to turn half of your customer base against you.

So when some silly ginned up controversy comes to the forefront, some timid advertisers get scared and pull out. Then when things settle down they come back with their tail between their legs and ask if they can pretty please run their ads again.

One of his former advertisers is even having trouble getting back in the door.

Look I said "might" as in not positive or even predicting it. But to put it in more common terms what I was referring to is that over the last decade or two it became "cool" to be an advertiser on these kinds of politically controversial shows. And I specifically mean major national corporations and nationally organized and coordinated advertising campaigns. The Mainstream we might call it.

But the benefit versus cost ratio was already waning when Limbaugh just pushed the envelope clear off the reservation and not wanting to take on any controversy or alienate any potential customers in this multi media age now these kinds of shows are "uncool."

You can't be in the mainstream unless the mainstream is paying you to so without that mainstream national revenue right wing talk radio COULD BE pushed back into the shadows.

Rush Limbaugh, or dozens of others just like him, have a solid and predictable audience - and will have for at least another generation or two. That being the case, they will always attract advertisers that want to promote to that audience.
