Watch: Gen. Milley Admits it ‘Certainly is Possible’ That Biden’s Afghanistan Crisis Influenced Putin on Ukraine

The nation’s highest ranking military officer Thursday said America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan did not prompt the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Senator Marsh Blackburn (R-Tenn.) asked Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley if the Afghanistan withdrawal was a factor.

I'd like to see Biden walking the streets of Ukraine with Zelensky the way British PM Boris Johnson did.

Biden doesn't have the balls for it.

    Here's an idea.
Have Kamala and Nancy Antoinette take that walk and hope for a mortar attack.

Then, when biden gets hip checked out of the oval office guess who takes the office?

    1. conroe4
And even if when biden gets hip checked, and kameltoe and peelosi get nicked, we get a Vermont liberal Patrick Leahy.

It don't be looking good even in the best of outcomes.

Well, but Leahy is one of the despicables who isn't seeking reelection, so he'll be out as of January. And after the election when deplorables take back both the house and senate, they will elect new speakers and presidents for the house and the senate. A change in power will take place, leaving biden a lame duck. If he's still president after midterms that is.

Shooter thinks as long as deplorables can come up with a better candidate than trump or biden (a very low bar indeed) the oval office will be theirs in 2024 and until 2026 they'll be able to get things back on a more level and predictable course.

Shooter's crystal ball doesn't extend past 2026, and its hazy after 2022, but the future is looking much brighter.

Do you see DeSantis in that ball? Even if he's hazy? My crystal ball lied to me. biden was never remotely in the picture.

      and now lookit.

Yeah, Shooter missed that one as well.
      Raises questions, doesn't it?

Anyway, yeah, DeSantis could be invited to the ball, but Shooter is hoping for a Pompeo, or maybe a Haley (would just love to see a Haley/Owens ticket, eh?) or even a Youngkin.

Following is an article which seems to sum up what @Fixca has been peddling. Like Western readers everywhere, I have no idea of what is actually going on in Mariupol, nor do I know how much of this article is true or is just is propaganda. While some of this article actually does read like propaganda, I have posted it because of what it describes is being posted on Russian social media and for its information on the Azovstal Steel factory tunnels.

What I do know is that the Russians are very, very good at what we would call signals intelligence. In the end, I have no idea of whether LTG Cloutier has or has not been captured -- neither do any of the rest of us though either. However, if in fact the Russians did track down Cloutier through phone communications with his "mistress," then that is shameful because he was absolutely aware of Russian capabilities.

Like all of the rest of here, I have absolutely zero faith in corporate "fact checkers." So I will wait and see what comes out in the following days and weeks. Hopefully, LTG Cloutier will turn up safely and we can all chortle then at more Russian duplicity.

Where is Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier?

When stories of the capture of Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier began to surface just over a week ago (4 April) I checked around and summarily dismissed them. There were two reasons for this. The fact checkers seemed to have evidence that he was in Turkey, though I do not have much faith in corporate fact-checkers. More significantly, the Russian mainstream media made no mention of Cloutier’s capture. So I dismissed it as fake propaganda.

However, the story has not gone away, at least not on Russian social media. It is everywhere, with exactly the same text repeated – which of course could well mean it was invented and others shared it simply because it agreed with what they wanted to believe. I share the important text relating to Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier now, not because I want you to believe it, but because much of it warrants further investigation. It seems largely credible.

“American Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier, captured by the People’s Militia of the DPR the other day from a downed helicopter, was tracked by the GRU GS [Intelligence General Staff] and SVR [Russian Internal Intelligence Services] in Mariupol based on the results of external surveillance of his mistress in Izmir, Turkey . A citizen of Ukraine, known to intelligence as ‘Klute’, always accompanied the general as a travelling wife, confidante and translator. As soon as it was reported that this lady had arrived in Mariupol, Russia launched a military operation and blocked the city.”

Is this true? Hard to say. Something is not right. More of that later.

The west is afraid of something being found to discredit its trustworthiness, for what it is, because now on 12 April, our media are talking about a “chemical attack” to be blamed on Russia, after which all options to NATO countries “are on the table”. Let’s search a little deeper into the Azovstal underground network where it is suspected western instructors and advisors, who should not be there, are holed up. Let’s look too at what the Russians have really said they are going to do.

    The tunnels of Azovstal
There are 24 kilometres of tunnels in the Azovstal network of steel factories. They are said to go as deep as 30 metres (well below sea-level) and apparently subject to flooding since 2014 the weak points are said to have been filled as a sea-defence.

    An Azovstal tunnel

The factory complex is owned by Oligarch, Rinat Akhmetov, who has property in London, and is, or at least was, said to be the richest man in Ukraine. A week ago Akhmetov received harsh criticism from Igor Moiseev, who slated him for not being able to make a decision either between Russian and Anglo-Saxon civilizations or “between real patriotism and the excruciating love of money”. He backed Yanukovich, then Poroshenko, now Zelensky – three losers. His industrial empire is on the wane. Moiseev speculates that when it is all over Azovstal will be nationalized, even though Akhmetov is bragging to Bloomberg he will recoup his losses from Russia.

When Russian liberators took control of Mariupol they found the bodies of tortured victims who had swastikas carved into their torsos, to add to the whole catalogue of other sickening crimes committed by the neo-Nazi Azov forces.

Inside Azovstal tunnels are secrets that only when those entrenched surrender, are rescued (unlikely) or are killed, will the truth emerge – and not necessarily then. What resources have the incarcerated got with them in the tunnels? According to rusonline.org: There is “a secret NATO facility PIT-404 – and a secret NATO biological laboratory with biological weapons. At the PIT-404 facility, NATO officers are blocked. The tunnels are equipped with a bunker system with armour protection.”

If true, is this the false-flag chemical attack the west is planning? Are those in the tunnels planning to commit mass suicide to blame on the Russians? Their crimes are so bad this might seem the only option.
“There are about 240 foreigners inside, including officers of NATO and the French Foreign Legion, as well as biolab staff. Their security, funded by Akhmetov, has up to 3,000 people. The biolab under the Azovstal plant in Mariupol at the so-called PIT-404 facility was built and operated by Metabiota, a company associated with Hunter Biden, Rinat Akhmetov and Vladimir Zelensky. In the laboratories of this facility, tests were conducted to create bioweapons. Thousands of Mariupol residents have become “guinea pigs” in these terrible trials. And mostly Western “specialists” took part in these inhuman experiments.”

It brings shame and disgrace on good people everywhere in western “democracies” knowing from the Covid-19 “fake vaccine” experiments that the west is not averse to experimenting on ordinary civilians. This subterranean subterfuge cannot be ruled out. While the west is planning its chemical/bio-weapon false-flag Russia last night stated what its intention was regarding those in the tunnel.

    Who is in the tunnel?
Rusonline says there are approximately 240 cooped up in the “so-called” PIT-404. This facility, it says, was “built and operated by Metabiota”. Thousands of Mariupol residents have, according to the article, been experimented upon like guinea pigs and Western specialists were involved in the “inhuman experiments”.

Further claims are that others at the site could include French intelligence officers who were not killed with their colleagues in a rescue attempt which it alleges led to the dismissal of the head of French intelligence, Eric Vido, on 31 March 2022. Other officers “in the dungeons of Avostal” are said to be from USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Poland and Greece.

So has Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier been captured?
It is possible. Initially it seemed implausible, mostly because there was nothing in mainstream Russian media. Thinking about it more deeply if Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier is in Russian custody there are several strategic reasons why this may not have been made public. If he has been captured the likelihood is some kind of debriefing will be going on. Also, it would leave the west guessing if they did not know his whereabouts.

The fact-checking is probably false – like most of the rest we are brainwashed into believing. Of the photos from Cloutier’s LinkedIn and Facebook accounts made public to reassure he is safe in Turkey two of the images are smudged. Rather than being a focus issue it looks like these have been photo-shopped.

Is this the woman the Russian Secret Services call “Klute”?

The second blurred image is apparently of Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier at some presentation in Izmir, Turkey.

One blurred image might be chance, but two, seems like conspiracy to me. That is not, however, the smoking-gun. That comes from a comment allegedly made by the Lieutenant General on his LinkedIn thread. I got this via a Russian source.

Exercise Sea Breeze ran from June 28 to July 22, 2021. There could be a logical reason for this error, “July this year” and if not, the Fact-checkers will dream something up, believe me.

Last night a statement was issued by the Department of the People’s Militia of the DPR: “Assault groups with flamethrowers have been prepared in Mariupol to clean up “Azovstal” – UNM. "The armed forces of Russia and the DPR have prepared assault groups to neutralize the national formations of Ukraine at the Azovstal plant.” “For actions in complex industrial buildings, assault units have been prepared, which pointedly use rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers to destroy the positions of the Azov Nazis.”

It was added that “the effectiveness of this approach was proved during storming of the ground and underground structures of the Ilyich [probably named after Lenin] Mariupol Metallurgical Combine.”

I would have thought flooding the tunnels would be less costly in human life.

Beijing Bewildered As Ukraine ‘Shoots Down’ Russia’s Most Advanced Attack Helicopter On Shopping List Of Chinese PLA Navy?
    By
    Ashish Dangwal February 27, 2022

Social media was recently swamped with images and videos showing Russia’s full-blown attack on Ukraine. Experts believe that China would be closely watching the performance of Russian hardware as Beijing sources many weapons from Moscow.

As per videos going viral on social media, it appears the Ukrainian military shot down two Ka-52s on the very first day of the Russian invasion. Called ‘Alligator’, Ka-52 is touted as Russia’s most sophisticated attack helicopter. The choppers are frequently compared with the US Army’s AH-64 Apache. Last year, several publications including The EurAsian Times and South China Morning Post reported that China was considering buying the Russian attack chopper.

In the past few years, Moscow has showcased this as one of the most lethal combat choppers. It was displayed at the Dubai Air Show last year in the hopes of boosting its export potential. China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) is planning to acquire up to two squadrons (36 units) of the Russian-made co-axial (or contra-rotor) Kamov Ka-52K ‘Katran’ — a naval variant attack helicopter, to operate from its Type 075 Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), according to The EurAsian Times.

    Ka-52 at MAKS-2009 – Wikimedia Commons
The development in Ukraine could put Beijing in a bind as it had already ditched its homegrown Harbin Z-10 attack helicopter in favor of the Russian platform. Furthermore, there have been numerous accounts of this chopper being taken down by man-portable air defense systems.

    China’s Interest In Ka-52
Beijing considers Taiwan a breakaway province and wants to reunite it with the mainland, if necessary by force. China has ramped up what is perceived as intimidatory measures by deploying warplanes into Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone.

The lack of a heavy assault helicopter to operate from ships for amphibious operations and ground attack is the rationale behind China’s acquisition of the Ka-52K. In addition, China’s domestic aerospace industry’s failure to produce one is another factor driving its choice. The Ka-52K is a naval version of the Ka-52 Alligator, capable of carrying powerful anti-ship missiles with ranges over 100 kilometers, air-to-ground missiles, ground-attack rocket pods, a 30mm cannon, and radars with ranges exceeding 200 kilometers. This effectively transforms it into a ‘multirole’ helicopter capable of providing close air support as a heavy helicopter gunship as well as reconnaissance and scouting missions, giving targeting data and battlefield monitoring.

    CAIC Z-10 – Wikipedia
It has folding rotor blades, folding wings, and life-support systems for the crew. For usage in marine conditions, the fuselage and systems have been given a specific anti-corrosion treatment.

Despite the fact that China’s Harbin Z-10 attack helicopter is a powerful platform, it is still classified as a light/medium weight attack helicopter due to its engine capacity. Even the most recent variants are still powered by WZ-9 turboshaft engines, as the WZ-16 engines are still in development and will not be available in serial production. One of the reasons Pakistan selected the Turkish T-129 ATAK assault helicopter over the Z-10 was engine performance concerns. The Klimov VK-2500, which drives the Ka-52K, produces nearly twice as much power as the WZ-9 turboshaft engine, which produces 1,300 horsepower.

    — Eva (@evazhengll) February 25, 2022

Besides, it cannot carry its designated maximum payload of 16 HJ-10 anti-tank missiles. Likewise, even the armor panels are made of lightweight graphene, since the engines can’t lift the added weight. The Russian Ka-52K is substantially heavier, weighing 12 tones compared to the Z-10’s 7 tones. However, the latter is not a heavily armored helicopter that can neither inflict nor sustain major damage.

In the case of a land assault, Chinese war games and drills have long imagined shattering medium and heavy armored ground targets (which could be none other than Taiwan). Although the PLA Navy and Air Force can take down Taiwanese air and naval assets, when a land invasion begins, smaller sea and land targets will need to be attacked by heavy attack helicopters.

The Ka- 52 can survive 12.7 mm armor-piercing rounds and 23 mm projectile fragments, with even the rotors reportedly able to endure small weapons fire. That is why China has anticipated that Taiwanese anti-aircraft units will have a difficult time combating these rotorcraft, which could be employed simultaneously with other air and ground assets, given China’s tendency to overpower and confuse opposing forces.

This is a huge symbolic blow to Russia, but probably changes little. Ukrainian forces are already preparing for the Russian military to begin pushing on several fronts in the Donbass region once the battle of Mariupol city is over.
Russia says Moskva cruiser has sunk after reported Ukrainian missile strike
Russia initially denied reports that warship sank, then later claimed it went down in stormy seas while being towed to port after fire

Russia’s Black Sea flagship missile cruiser, the Moskva, has sunk while being towed to a port after an explosion, the Russian defence ministry has claimed. It comes after Ukraine on Wednesday said its military struck the Moskva with Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles, while distracting its crew with an aerial drone, causing it to start sinking and forcing the crew of 500 to abandon ship.

Russia’s defence ministry initially denied reports that it had sunk and claimed the fires had been extinguished. It said four Russian ships that had gone to the Moskva’s rescue were hampered by bad weather and by ammunition blowing up. Late on Thursday the ministry said in a statement: “The cruiser ship Moskva lost its stability when it was towed to the port because of the damage to the ship’s hull that it received during the fire from the detonation of ammunition. In stormy sea conditions, the ship sank.”

The claim of bad weather being a factor in the sinking was questioned by observers. Mark Hertling, the former commanding general of the United States Army Europe, told CNN: “As they were towing that ship in, that very wounded ship, into Sevastopol, they claim a storm sank it. Looking at the weather report outside of Sevastopol today the winds were about four miles an hour with 40 degree [4C] temperatures and a little bit of rain.”

The apparent attack on and sinking of the Black Sea fleet’s flagship – 50 days after Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine – represents a symbolic blow to the Kremlin. The Moskva was the pride of its fleet and the most prestigious vessel involved in the war against Ukraine. “The sinking of the Moskva, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, is not just a significant loss, it is emblematic of the shambolic Russian military campaign,” said Michael Kofman, research programme director and Russia expert at the US government-funded Center for Naval Analyses.

Confirmation of the sinking came as the CIA’s director, William Burns, warned that Vladimir Putin may resort to using a tactical or low-yield nuclear weapon in light of his country’s military setbacks. During a speech in Atlanta, Burns said: “Given the potential desperation of President Putin and the Russian leadership … none of us can take lightly the threat posed by a potential resort to tactical nuclear weapons or low-yield nuclear weapons.”

The Kremlin placed Russian nuclear forces on high alert shortly after beginning the war on 24 February, and furthered its nuclear rhetoric on Thursday when it said it would be forced to strengthen its defences in the Baltic if Finland and Sweden join Nato, including by deploying nuclear weapons. Burns, however, said the US had not seen “a lot of practical evidence” of actual deployments that would cause more worry.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has delivered an address to mark the 50th day of war, calling Russia’s invasion “absurd” and “suicidal” and saying Ukraine had become a “hero for the whole free world”. “We have withstood 50 days already … although the occupiers gave us a maximum of five,” he said. “I remember the first day. Everyone sympathised. Many of them advised me to flee the country. Advised to actually surrender to tyranny. But they didn’t know us either. And they did not know how brave Ukrainians are.”

In signs of the financial pressures being placed on Russia by the sanctions regime, which has led to rating agency Moody’s saying that Russia “may be considered in default” if it fails to pay bonds in US dollars by 4 May, Moscow has written to Brazil asking for its support in the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the G20 group of top economies. In a letter seen by Reuters dated 30 March, the Russian finance minister Anton Siluanov asked for Brazil’s “support to prevent political accusations and discrimination attempts in international financial institutions and multilateral fora”. A Brazilian economy minister spokesperson indicated that Brazil would like Russia to remain part of discussions at multilateral organisations.

The sinking of the Moskva, meanwhile, dealt a blow to one of Russia’s main campaign objectives. Commissioned in 1983, it was armed with 16 anti-ship Vulkan cruise missiles with a range of at least 440 miles (700km). According to reports, it was also carrying S-300 anti-air missiles, which are crucial to Russia’s air power over Crimea and Ukraine’s Kherson province, now occupied by Russian troops. It is the most significant naval vessel to be sunk since the Argentinian cruiser General Belgrano was torpedoed by a British submarine, HMS Conqueror, in 1982. It is the first time Moscow has lost a cruiser since German planes sank the Chervona Ukraina (Red Ukraine) in 1941 at Sevastopol – the same Crimean naval base to which the Moskva was supposedly being towed when it sank.

Maksym Marchenko, the Ukrainian governor of the region around Odesa, said the Moskva had been hit by two cruise missiles. “Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea caused very serious damage,” he said. Oleksandr Turchynov, a former secretary of the national security and defence council, said Ukraine had hit another Russian ship two weeks ago with a Neptune cruise missile. He said the missile inflicted “significant damage” on the Admiral Essen, “removing it from combat operation”.

Western officials described the Ukrainian claims to have hit the Moskva with anti-ship missiles as “credible”. A senior US defence official noted that five other Russian vessels that had been as close as or closer to the Ukrainian coast than the Moskva had moved at least another 20 nautical miles offshore after the explosion, suggesting an effort to get out of range of Ukrainian missiles.

“In the wake of the damage that the Moskva experienced, all of the northern Black Sea ships have now moved out, away from the northern areas they were operating in,” the defence official said.

The Moskva gained notoriety early in the war when the crew demanded the surrender of Ukrainian forces on Snake Island, prompting a riposte by radio from one of the border guards on the island: “Russian warship, go fuck yourself.” The phrase instantly became synonymous with Ukrainian defiance, and is now a universal meme. The day before the Moskva was sunk, Zelenskiy unveiled a new postage stamp portraying the ship and the Ukrainian border guard with his middle finger raised.

The Moskva had been leading a substantial Russian naval presence in the Black Sea, threatening Ukraine’s southern coast and its key ports. This has been one of the main focuses of the Kremlin’s military efforts, and is aimed at cutting off Ukraine’s access to sea and creating a land bridge from the Crimean peninsula to the Russian border.

The Neptune missile that is claimed to have punched a hole in the Moskva’s hull was developed and upgraded by Ukraine from a Soviet missile design. It is fired from a mobile launcher with a range of 100km, allowing it to be fired from some distance inland. Ukraine is reported to have a limited supply of the missiles and has appealed for western supplies of anti-ship weapons. The UK prime minister, Boris Johnson, promised on a recent visit to Kyiv that British missiles would be made available, but they have not yet arrived.

On Wednesday, Joe Biden approved another $800m in US military assistance to Ukraine, for a total of $2.6bn since the beginning of the war. The new tranche will include longer-range air defence systems than had been previously supplied to Ukraine.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

Three sides are pumping out propaganda right now, Russia, Ukraine and America/western media. This thing is NOT as black and white as we all would like it to be.

I am becoming more convinced that something is going on with LTG Roger Cloutier. This is potentially a far bigger deal than most here seem to realize. If he has not been captured, then a quick press conference would disprove the rumors (NATO denied his captured but the Pentagon remains silent). The weak fact-checks by the same Leftist/Liberal pro-corporate media fact-check organizations who declared Trump's Collusion with Russia was true, Climate Change is real and COVID vaccines were safe now deny this event has happened, almost solely basing their decision on western propaganda. Given the crap about which we have already seen them lie, NO ONE should believe a word the fact-checkers say.

If he was captured, what was he doing in Mariupol? Was he coordinating tactics with the Azov Battalion? If so, why was an active duty US Army general working with Ukrainian Nazis?

If an active-duty US Army general was working in Mariupol and was actually captured by Russian Federation forces, then the implications would be enormous. As yet, however, we don't really know one way or another.

The video below goes even further though, addressing a pro-Ukrainian Nazi phrase posted on Cloutier's official NATO Linked-In page. WTH is an American 3 star general doing with the phrase Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes! prominently displayed on his Linked-in page in both English and Ukrainian? The phrase is one that Ukrainian National Socialists originated back in the 194o's when they were affiliated with Nazi Germany in the war against the Russians. It is still used today by the same people in the same context. This is the equivalent of a US Army general putting Sig Heil on his Linked-In page in both English and German!

I freely admit to being in the dark about this. If anyone knows anything more, I would love to see it posted.

British media earlier reported that dozens of “retired” SAS soldiers had gone or planned to go to Ukraine to contribute their expertise in reconnaissance and anti-tank warfare to Kiev’s cause. Are these some of the 'mercenaries' that Russia has reportedly trapped in Mariopul?

Unsurprisingly, it is now being reported that active duty Delta and SAS units have also been present in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. May they remain safe.

US and UK conducting 'secret war' in Ukraine – Le Figaro
SAS and Delta Force part of “secret war”, a French intelligence source reportedly told Le Figaro

Elite special forces from the UK and the US have been present in Ukraine since the beginning of hostilities with Russia in late February, a source in the French intelligence community reportedly told a Le Figaro reporter, last week. The claim was reported by the newspaper’s senior international correspondent Georges Malbrunot on Saturday, the day when British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made his surprise visit to Kiev. The British leader was reportedly surrounded by guards from the elite SAS force, though this claim was not officially confirmed. SAS units “have been present in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, as did [sic] the American Deltas,” Malbrunot tweeted citing a French intelligence source. He added that according to the source Russia was well aware of the “secret war” waged against its troops by foreign commandos. Le Figaro included his report in their updates on Ukraine.

The UK and the US have been among the most active military supporters of Kiev. Johnson reportedly personally urged his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to keep on fighting against Russia and not settle for peace until better terms are offered. Western pro-fighting consensus was apparently confirmed last week by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who said on Saturday that the “war will be won on the battlefield” as he too was visiting Kiev. British media earlier reported that dozens of “retired” SAS soldiers had gone or planned to go to Ukraine to contribute their expertise in reconnaissance and anti-tank warfare to Kiev’s cause. Their services were allegedly paid for by “a country in Europe, still to be named, via a private military company” rather than by the British government, according to the UK tabloid the Daily Mirror.

The Russian military reported action against what it described as “mercenaries” fighting for Ukraine on several occasions. One of the recent instances was on Saturday, just as Johnson and Borell were in Kiev.

The Russian defense ministry said Kiev attempted to use a civilian ship in its latest failed attempt to evacuate high-value personnel from the port city of Mariupol, which saw some of the most intensive fighting during the conflict. The individuals intended for evacuation were identified as leaders of the ultranationalist Azov battalion and foreign mercenaries. There are unconfirmed reports that hundreds of foreign nationals could be blocked in Mariupol along with several thousand Azov troops.

The US and the UK have publicly stated they had no plans to involve their troops in the fighting in Ukraine. Both are major suppliers of arms to Kiev and were training soldiers in Ukraine before the Russian offensive. The experts were reported pulled out of the country in the run-up to the hostilities. Britain’s Defence Ministry banned active service members from traveling to Ukraine in early March, saying that violating the rule could result in prosecution. Kiev called on volunteers abroad to join the ranks of its newly-created “foreign legion” after the Russian attack.

Russia launched a large-scale offensive against Ukraine in late February, following Ukraine’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements signed in 2014, and Russia’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German and French brokered Minsk Protocol was designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

Russia has since demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two rebel regions by force.
