Militia that targeted Michigan governor also sought to kill cops

NBC News investigative reporter Tom Winter provided details on Thursday about the militia plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) and violently overthrow the government over her mask mandate and COVID-19 rules.

Winter explained that the FBI began monitoring social media conversations about the violent overthrow of the government and were able to use embedded agents and informants to thwart the plot.

“One of those informants came from a militia group in Michigan and as a result that have they were able to speak with this person who came forward because they were concerned that the militia was seeking the addresses of police officers and wanted to kill police officers,” he said. “One of the militia groups that was kind of associated or tried to be brought in to be recruited by the people that were charged today in this plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was allegedly * involved in one of those Second Amendment rallies at the capital in Michigan.”

For the past several months, Republicans have alleged that Black Lives Matter protesters were responsible for violent attacks against police officers and have tried to claim that supporters of the movement are domestic terrorists. FBI Director Christopher Wray testified that “opportunists,” militia members and anarchists were the majority of the instigators of violence at such rallies.

Congress is set to approve a defense policy bill that bars unidentified federal law enforcement officers from policing protests. The bill responds to a phenomenon that Mother Jones flagged in June: Unidentified federal law enforcement officers with no identifying insignia joined in the Trump administration’s coordinated crackdown on protests against police violence in several cities earlier this summer.

The 4,500-page annual defense policy bill that emerged from a House-Senate policy committee Thursday requires any armed forces personnel, including National Guard members, and federal law enforcement agents who respond to a “civil disturbance”, to display either their name or some other “individual identifier”, as well as the organization or branch of the Armed Forces for whom they work.

The Justice Department later acknowledged that the agents I talked to were from the Bureau of Prisons—federal prison guards, in other words. The agents were from special “riot control” teams dispatched to DC along with many other federal agents as part of a show of force ordered up by Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr in response to one night of looting and vandalism in downtown DC amid largely peaceful mass protests that followed the May 25 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

In July, the Trump administration deployed more unidentified agents as part of a large federal response to protests around a federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon. In Portland agents in unmarked, rented minivans emerged and detained protesters without identifying themselves. Customs and Border Protection later told Mother Jones that its agents had carried out the arrests in Portland.

This provision is a direct response to the presence in multiple cities of unidentified federal officers last summer. I first reported on this issue on June 3 during a protest in Washington. Agents I approached would only say that they worked for the “Department of Justice” or the “federal government.” Other reporters elicited similar responses.

The provision in the defense bill, which is drawn from a bill offered by Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), would bar such conduct.

“President Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr deployed an army of unidentifiable federal officers in riot gear to crackdown on peaceful demonstrators exercising their constitutional rights across the country and treated American citizens like they were an enemy,” Schumer said in a statement Thursday. “The legislation Sen. Murphy and I worked to include in the NDAA puts an end to this abuse of power and ensures that federal law enforcement is transparent, identifiable, and accountable.”

Shocking new report details the injuries to police during insurrection by Trump supporters

Following the third day of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial, The New York Times published a new report on the injuries suffered by police during the January 6th insurrection.

"One officer lost the tip of his right index finger. Others were smashed in the head with baseball bats, flag poles and pipes. Another lost consciousness after rioters used a metal barrier to push her into stairs as they tried to reach the Capitol steps during the assault on Jan. 6," The Times reported.

"A little more than a month after the Capitol siege, a fuller picture of the injuries sustained by the police has emerged from court documents, footage revealed at former President Donald J. Trump's impeachment trial, accounts provided by officers and interviews with law enforcement officials and experts," the newspaper explained. "The Capitol assault resulted in one of the worst days of injuries for law enforcement in the United States since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. At least 138 officers — 73 from the Capitol Police and 65 from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington — were injured, the departments have said. They ranged from bruises and lacerations to more serious damage such as concussions, rib fractures, burns and even a mild heart attack."

Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was killed in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"The number of those injured does not account for the dozens, if not hundreds, of officers whom law enforcement officials estimate will suffer in years to come with post-traumatic stress disorder and the dozens who most likely contracted the coronavirus from unmasked Trump supporters who overran the Capitol, the experts and officials said," the newspaper reported. "At least 38 Capitol Police officers have tested positive for the coronavirus or were exposed to it, Representative David Cicilline, Democrat of Rhode Island and a House impeachment manager, said on Thursday. Nearly 200 National Guard personnel who were deployed to protect the Capitol in the weeks after the siege also tested positive, he said."

But lets not forget the thousand law enforcement injured/killed during a summer of BLM and antifa riots across the country. Industrial lasers to blind. Bricks, bats, frozen water bottles, guns, knives, bombs. They even tried to burn officers alive in Portland.

Will those officers get medals for defending federal property with their lives?
Will they be shown in graphic detail before the US senate?
Will they be politicized to impeach the politicians responsible for their injuries?

The DC and Capitol Cops were just stage dressing. Pelosi, the DC Mayor and the left CHOSE to weaken the Capitol defenses in the wake of plenty of intelligence that a violent uprising was in the works. They left the doors open and unguarded, hoping for chaos, and they got it.

I have to say that it was dirty and Anti-American, but it was well played, and it worked.
