The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

You asked if I worked for the government. What difference does it make? I think government employment is an honorable calling. It bothers me that the prestige of government employment has been reduced by affirmative action policies.

    What a truly amazing thread!

So many great points. I'm a noob so learning personalities is interesting too. General comments:

    * I believe we all fall prey to giving credibility to reports and/or opinions made by "established" organizations. Trust but verify. I don't care if you are my attorney, financial advisor, or pastor...just because you say it doesn't mean it's true.

    * There are words used by some here that, while correct by standard definition, don't make the cut from a legal perspective. For example I agree that Social Security is a contract with then people and that there is a legal/ethical obligation on government to fulfill these promises. However, social security isn't a legal right, is it?

    * We all tend to generalize the parties, and unfairly so. Want a fun history lesson that may challenge your paradigm of foundation Dems/Rep? Watch the new Lincoln movie. It may surprise you.

There are positive and negative attributes to our government. However, we must not ignore the charging bear while swatting at gnats. The debate of giving to non-profits, the right of social security, etc, is moot if we don't do what is necessary to survive. And, in my amateur opinion, economic collapse is on the horizon unless foundational change is made.

    LOL...more from our dysfunctional Govt...;)

    ===================

White House tours now cancelled because of budget cuts, beginning Saturday.

    so in response...:excited:

Conservative Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) introduced legislation that would, in effect, prevent President Barack Obama from playing golf unless the White House reinstates public tours.

The amendment, part of the House's stopgap measure to fund the government, comes in response to the White House's decision Saturday to cancel public tours as a result of the sequester — a move that has caused backlash from Republican lawmakers. "Canceling all self-guided White House tours is the latest shameless political stunt by the president, who is twisting basic government efficiency into an extreme consequence," Republican Rep.
Tom Graves said in a statement.

Now, Gohmert's measure would prohibit the White House from using any of the appropriated funds to pay for Obama's frequent golfing outings unless the tours are reinstated.

"None of the funds made available by a division of this Act may be used to transport the President to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume," Gohmert's amendment reads. The House is expected to vote on their continuing resolution bill on Wednesday.

    :p

    Sequester?

    $16.5 trillion in debt?

    No problem!

Obama gives Muslim Brotherhood Egypt $250 million in aid
after giving them F-16 fighter jets

Ok, so let me get this straight.

Budget ‘cuts’ this year from sequester will amount for a whopping $44 billion, or a whole 1.5% of the budget.

This is supposed to make the country suffer. Yet Obama and John Kerry are giving Egypt a ‘gift’ of $450 million in aid because of Morsi’s ‘promises’ for reforms.

$190 million of this ‘aide’ will come immediately.

Kerry says US releasing millions in aid to Egypt

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the Obama administration is rewarding the Egyptian government with financial aid because of Cairo's promises of economic and political reforms.

Proof that the left has no brain to wash....It is not an entitlement, it is the return on the payments (investment) I made to the government over the course of my working life. The government had an agreement with me that if I contributed I would receive the benefits.

Is an IRA an entitlement,,, you dumb fuck...

So what you're saying is...that it IS an entitlement! The right wing made entitlement a bad word. That's why you don't want to label it as an entitlement. But here's a little fact:
    it's an entitlement

No, it's not. An IRA is an investment and isn't even close to how SS works.

Why am I even acknowledging you?

As Sequester Deadline Looms, Little Support for Cutting Most Programs

What matters is that Social Security and Medicare are paid for by present taxation. When taxes are reduced Social Security and Medicare payments must be reduced, or they must be paid for with deficit spending. What also matters is that the only item in the Federal Budget for which there is majority support for reducing is foreign aid. Foreign aid is less than two percent of the budget.

Since the presidential campaign of 1980 Republicans have told the voters that they could have pay lower taxes, have a better financed military, and keep their favorite domestic spending programs. It has never been true.

    ------

Pew Research Center February 22, 2013

As the March 1 deadline for a possible budget sequester approaches, a new national survey finds limited public support for reducing spending for a range of specific programs, including defense, entitlements, education and health care.

recall every legislation put in place in the last 10 years
tell washington that the people are in control
or just shut the fuck up and be good republican ass clowns and elect another bush in 2016

NO,,,it's not an entitlement, it was not designed to be an entitlement, and here is the difference,,,,,'tax payers' pay for entitlements, 'employees' pay into Social Security

Therefore,,S.S.is paid for by ''employees'',,with the illusion that the ''employees''with receive a return with their investment into a government based trust fund.

You are weak and just can't help yourself..

RR: That may be the best solution. And, when we replace these clowns we need term limits (no more career politicians), and they shouldn't make more than the average compensation in their district

    Good post!

    fuck the average compensation idea
they should be made to abandon all outside incomes and work a 5 day or 40 hour work week
accept the federal minimum wage and the current federal care plans
they should have all tax reports for the last 10 years audited and publicised
and should be forced to show that all campaign funds came from individuals giving no more than $500 and show where every penny was spent

    and asses
social security is a tax imposed on us by the federal government which we cannot currently opt out of
yet it is readily availible to those who have never paid taxes>
but at the same time it is viewed as an investment in the future of american society so how is that investment an entitlement?
we pay into a system that involves investments that we fund so how does that not equal and investment?
and above that if one buys US savings bonds are they not in the same shitter as those needing social security and medicare?

ohhhhh wait it is an investment intended to return a dividend
too bad the republicans chose to make it a dividend to their own benefit

You are correct. It doesn't really matter if you work for the government; The question was intended as a bit of humor, inferring that you think like a government employee.

And I started working closely with government bureaucrats before affirmative action had a chance to effect anything. Government employment was not any more honorable then than it is now. Virtually every bureaucrat I met was in it for the perks and would fail in private industry.

In fact, politicians are the only form of life lower than a bureaucrat in my opinion.

Uh... It's called the "social security tax"
And all employees pay taxes

Even the *GASP* social security administration calls it a tax

    http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/ans...-medicare-tax-rates;-maximum-taxable-earnings

It's the very definition of an entitlement, and it's funny to watch the mental gymnastics required to gloss over that fact.

It's amazing how you can be so woefully inept when it comes to...well...everything and still remain employed or employed at some point in your life. It boggles my mind

No, I just hope one day a lightbulb will turn on and you'll realize that you've been a complete moron all this time. But I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up; how old are you again?

It's kind of ironic that there's a war on teachers, yet 60% want to increase funding for education.

We can thank LBJ for moving the SS trust from private to general fund.

And libs DO think SS is an entitlement.
