This was another one that was an absolute slaughter. And first let's get real here. Alejandro Mayorkas over sees a department with 260,000 employees. So sure there are bound to be some bad ones. But what is actually remarkable is how many good ones they have.

And as usual treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans always play their phony dishonest con game of asking witnesses questions they know fucking well they can't answer because of rules, regulations, and long standing policies. But it gives them a chance to create the false impression they are trying to hide something.

Which is what Hawley tried to do and got his ass handed to him by Mayorkas And this is something that is happening a lot and I am very glad to see it. President Biden and his administration are sick and fucking tired of just sitting there and letting the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans beat them up in hearings, So they have started to fight back. And when they do they kick ass and take names. Which is incredibly important. Because all the treasonous conservative/America Hasting/Republicans are doing is grandstanding for sound bites And when they get their asses kicked instead that is what makes the headlines and goes viral.

DHS Chief Takes Down Sen. Josh Hawley In Viral Clash

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas blasted Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) for implying the department he leads endorses antisemitism in a viral exchange at a congressional hearing on Tuesday.

Hawley was questioning Mayorkas about a DHS employee who reportedly made inflammatory social media posts denouncing Israel after Hamas militants launched a brutal attack there on Oct. 7.

The employee was placed on administrative leave. Hawley repeatedly demanded to know if she had been fired; Mayorkas said he could not speak about an “ongoing personnel matter.”

Among a volley of questions, Hawley asked, “Is this typical of people who work at DHS?” and called Mayorkas “despicable” for not answering his queries.

After several minutes of heated questioning, Mayorkas, who is Jewish, gave a rebuttal.

“What I found despicable is the implication that this language, tremendously odious, actually could be emblematic of the sentiments of the 260,000 men and women of the Department of Homeland Security,” he said.

He also noted the senator’s “adversarial approach to me in this question” and wondered, “perhaps he doesn’t know my own background.”

“Perhaps he does not know that I am the child of a Holocaust survivor,” he said. “Perhaps he does not know that my mother lost almost all her family at the hands of the Nazis. And so I find his adversarial tone to be entirely misplaced. I find it to be disrespectful of me and my heritage.”

Hawley posted a seven-minute video of the questioning on his Senate website, cropped to end right before Mayorkas’ rebuke.

A clip of Mayorkas’ remarks posted by media watcher @Acyn has been viewed more than 3 million times.

    A "slaughter"?
    Judge for yourselves.
This isn't the first time Myorkas and Hawley have crossed swords.
We recall when Myorkas was flatly stating that the southern border was secure when he knew full well literally MILLIONS of ILLEGAL MIGRANTS were being passed through our border with little more than a cursory health check and an ID check. They are and were then simply sent on their way into the country to do whatever.

And it's laughable that the American hater would even bring up the idea of a single person being the exception rather than the rule when for the last 8 years we've been entertained with his endless MAGA rants and insistence that anyone who dared not condemn Trump was as guilty as Trump.
Hilarious. Sad, but hilarious just the same.

And that is so hilarious because both Don Jr and Eric tried to use the old Sergent Schultz defense. We saw nothing. We know nothing. They claimed they pay accountants to come up with the numbers and just signed off on them without really looking into if they were accurate or not. And there are two problems with that. One the accountants got their numbers from Trump. But more importantly that is the same defense that landed a few Eron executives in prison. Because they have a responsibility to know how the copay is being run.

'Shield another powerful right-winger': Comer and Jordan hit for focus of latest probe

For months now House Republicans, led by Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY), have attacked and investigated prosecutors going after former President Donald Trump, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

But they now have a new target in their sites, according to a report — Washington, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb.

But Schwalb isn't going after Trump. Rather, he's going after Leonard Leo, the kingpin of the far-right Federalist Society and a key figure who helped Trump appoint a wave of partisan judges to the federal bench, , wrote Ja'han Jones for MSNBC's The ReidOut Blog.

Their interest in him follows a March report in Politico that Leo's for-profit company received tens of millions of dollars from another entity of his that's registered as a charity, which could be against the law — and that he was engaged in a lavish lifestyle that didn't line up with his official salary figures.

Schwalb was reported to have opened an investigation into this arrangement following a complaint by liberal watchdog organization Campaign for Accountability, although Schwalb has been cagey about the details of the probe, not confirming or denying its existence.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

All of this is coming at the same time that reports indicate Leo is coordinating a $1.8 million public relations campaign to burnish the image of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, at the same time a flood of new investigations reveal the justice has accepted millions of dollars in gifts from GOP megadonors, often without properly reporting them.

In a new letter to the D.C. AG's office, Jordan and Comer question Schwalb's attempt at investigating the conservative judicial activist. "The Committees are concerned that your office’s investigation may be improper and politically motivated," they wrote. "First, it appears that your office does not have jurisdiction over this matter because Mr. Leo and the organizations with which he is affiliated are, according to publicly available information, based outside of Washington, D.C. Worse yet, the Committees are troubled that your investigation could infringe upon the fundamental rights of donor privacy and free association."

All of this, wrote Jones, creates the appearance that "Jordan and Comer are working in tandem as makeshift defense attorneys, using their posts to try to shield another powerful right-winger from legal scrutiny."

Lawmaker whacks GOP for pushing 'misleading reports' on Hunter Biden prosecutor testimony

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) left a House Judiciary Committee hearing with special counsel David Weiss and claimed that no one should believe any "misleading reports" from his Republican colleagues about what unfolded.

Weiss was being questioned behind closed doors about his ongoing investigation into President Joe Biden's son Hunter, whom Republicans have targeted since the 2020 election.

Goldman told Fox's Chad Pergram reported Goldman's details, which detailed Weiss only being willing to give information about his authority over the investigation and not the details about the investigation itself.

"He has not and will not discuss any aspects of the investigation. You will hear very misleading reports from the Republicans based on their questioning, which either just fundamentally doesn't understand how the department works or worse," Pergram wrote of Goldman's comments.

"Mr. Weiss made it abundantly clear that whatever authority he needed as this case progressed to charge whatever charges he thought appropriate, he had that authority if he needed it and he followed the protocols," Pergram explained.

"What he very clearly said, which was obvious in his letters, is that if he ever needed any additional authority than what he had as the US Attorney in Delaware, he was assured from the Department of Justice that he would have that authority," Goldman said, as Punchbowl News reporter Max Cohen revealed.

Weiss said that it was from his investigation that he concluded he needed the authority to be a special counsel. It was a sentiment that Republican Senators echoed. Attorney General Merrick Garland granted that request. Republicans then decided they opposed Weiss being given special counsel status because he was not prosecuting Biden for severe enough crimes, as the New York Times reported in August.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) attacked the hearing.

"This entire interview process is stupid. I don't know what we're doing here. We're not gonna learn anything new," Lieu said, according to Punchbowl's Cohen.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) told Cohen that President Joe Biden's name didn't come up once during the transcribed interview with Weiss.

Republican Judiciary Committee spokesperson Russell Dye called Nadler's claim "totally false."

Firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) claimed Weiss was "evasive" during the interview and refused to answer many questions from the GOP. Weiss told members that he wouldn't discuss any ongoing investigation, which is a policy of law enforcement, particularly the Justice Department.

“All that happened was that [Weiss] repeated multiple times that he made all charging decisions on his own and that no one told him what to do," Nadler told Cohen and other reporters.

Don't you just love how politics works?
Apparently despicable Goldman rushed from a CLOSED DOOR SESSION where prosecutor Weiss was questioned about The Biden bribery thingy.
Goldman's message was; "don't believe anything a deplorable tells you about the closed door session I just attended, they all will lie to you. now, let me tell you what was said .......... "
Sounds like a case of first liar doesn't have a chance.

Watch: Dem skewers Jim Jordan to his face over past promotion of infamous anti-Semite

A Democratic lawmaker slammed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) Wednesday over past tweets that used anti-Semitic tropes and promoted notorious anti-Semite Kanye West, who once told Alex Jones he likes Adolf Hitler.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) skewered Jordan (R-OH) in a House Judicial Committee hearing Wednesday over a 2022 post praising West and his months-long delay in taking it down, despite calls from nonpartisan groups who warned it endangered Jewish people.

Swalwell, referencing the report that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and his son monitor each other’s internet browser for pornography, told Jordan that he wanted to be his “online accountability partner.”

Swalwell's attack arrived as the House debated free speech on college campuses amid the war in Israel and Gaza, and included a tweet from Jordan that used a dollar sign to spell American businessman Tom Steyer's name.

The California lawmaker said he was very happy to discuss the dangers of anti-Semitism then shared tweets posted by West in the days when Jordan was still promoting him.

West’s tweets include a comment that Jared Kushner’s Jewish family is about “making money,” a “joke” that knowledge of Hanukkah would somehow provide “financial engineering,” and a threat to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.”

“I, the chairman at the time Chairman [Jerry] Nadler, many people in the Jewish community asked Jordan to take this down,” Swalwell noted. “It stayed up for months.”

Jordan did not directly reply to Swalwell, but took to Twitter to declare support for Israel and Jewish students on college campuses.

‘Makes Absolutely No Sense’: FBI Director Clashes With Ron Johnson Over Bias, Reminds Senator He’s a ‘Lifelong Republican’
    Alex GriffingOct 31st, 2023, 4:11 pm

FBI Director Christopher Wray lit into Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) during a Senate hearing on Tuesday after Johnson accused the FBI of partisanship.

Wary pushed back on Johnson, saying, “I see an FBI every day that conducts themselves with integrity and professionalism and selflessness and rigor. And I do not accept the characterization of our performance in this particular case.”

“That’s not how I characterized it. I’m talking about partisanship at the top,” interjected Johnson, raising his voice.

“May I finish up?” Wray asked of the chairman.

“With some specific partisan actors. I said the vast majority of the 38,000 are people of integrity,” Johnson added, insisting he did not mean to attack the entire FBI as partisan.

“And the idea that I, as a Republican appointee and a lifelong Republican is biased in the way that you are describing makes absolutely no sense,” Wray shot back.

“I’m happy to read you chapter and verse of all the reasons why that credibility has been destroyed,” Johnson, who has been known to push conspiracy theories, shot back.

Wray appeared before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Tuesday to discuss national security threats to the U.S.

“Protecting Americans from the threat of terrorism is and remains our number one priority. But as you all know, the range of threats we battle each and every day is enormous. From cyber attacks, to economic espionage, to violent crime and narcotics trafficking—and everything in between. And none of the problems we tackle are getting any easier,” Wray said in his opening statement, adding:

But we’ve continued to work to outpace our adversaries by disrupting over 40% more cyber operations last year and arresting over 60% more cyber criminals than the year before. We’re aggressively working to protect America’s economic security from China’s relentless efforts to steal our innovation and intellectual property, with around 2,000 active investigations across all 56 FBI field offices.

And over the past two years, we’ve seized enough fentanyl to kill 270 million people—that’s more than 80% of Americans. I’m incredibly proud of the FBI’s 38,000 skilled and dedicated employees who tackle these complex challenges to protect their fellow Americans.

Johnson has long criticized the FBI over its handling of investigations into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

"Can't make this up": Dems troll James Comer with "subpoenas" after $200K loan to brother revealed

Democrats on Thursday mocked House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., after The Daily Beast revealed that he loaned his brother $200,000.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., a member of the Oversight committee, trolled Comer by mocking his Wednesday video in which he signed off on subpoenas to President Joe Biden's brother James and son Hunter.

"It has been reported that Comer also loaned his brother $200k. We fully expect James to comply, just like the Trumps," Moskowitz quipped on X/Twitter.

Comer subpoenaed James Biden on Wednesday as part of his ongoing congressional investigation into unsubstantiated claims of the Biden family's "shady business practices." He has implicated James Biden in the alleged business scheming, taking particular interest in two personal loan repayments from James Biden to his brother for $40,000 and $200,000 — transactions that occurred in 2017 and 2018 when Joe Biden was neither in office nor a candidate.

The "shady business" Comer purports is part of these repayments, however, mirrors similar transactions between himself and his own brother, according to The Daily Beast's Roger Sollenberger.

Kentucky property records show that Comer and his brother swapped land related to their multi-million-dollar family farming business with one deal also involving $200,000 and a shell company. In that transaction, Comer funneled extra money to his brother, while other recent land swaps were quickly followed by new applications for special tax breaks, state records show. "All of this, perplexingly, related to the dealings of a family company that appears to have never existed on paper," Sollenberger writes.

Unlike with the Bidens, Sollenberger adds, Comer's decades-long history borders on being a conflict of interest between his official role and his private family business.

Though Comer and his GOP allies in the House of Representatives have attempted to cast the Biden transactions as evidence of possibly impeachable offenses, multiple news organizations — including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, FactCheck.org and the conservative-leaning Washington Examiner — have all put to bed the idea that the payments amount to more than a brother helping out a brother. Still, Comer persists.

Earlier this year, The Daily Beast reported that Comer's inquiry into the "weaponization" of government resources ran similar to Comer's own investigation-meddling scandal. The outlet also reported that Comer's oversight hearing this year into abuse of the COVID loan program also invoked the Kentucky representative and his brother.

"This time, the irony is even richer," Sollenberger writes.

“Even if this was a personal loan repayment, it’s still troubling that Joe Biden’s ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family’s shady financial dealings,” Comer said in a press release last month.

Comer's investigation, however, has failed to produce any evidence showing that Joe Biden's loans have any connection to family business activities, let alone to actions taken while he was in elected office. Comer, on the other hand, has held important governmental positions in agriculture oversight since 2003, while running a family farming business. Those roles overlapped in 2019, the year of land swaps, and he only pulled away from an agriculture-oversight position in 2020, one year after his family business moved away from farming.

Delaney Marsco, senior counsel for ethics at nonpartisan watchdog Campaign Legal Center, told The Daily Beast that Comer's coinciding public and private roles prompt concern over whether he may be attempting to "game a personal business advantage."

“Conflicts of interest can occur when members serve on committees overseeing industries in which they are heavily invested or in which their business interests are intertwined,” Marsco said. “Voters have a right to know that lawmakers are using their considerable power in the interest of the public, not to game a personal business advantage.”

A Comer spokesperson did not return The Daily Beast's request for comment.

In 2018, Comer — a member of the House Agriculture Committee since his election to Congress in 2016 — was selected to negotiate the Farm Bill, a position an office press release from that time characterized as “an important role in shaping America’s agriculture and nutrition policy" with Comer calling the bill “the most impactful legislation signed into law this year.”

Prior to that, Comer served as Kentucky's Agriculture Commissioner after having sat on the state legislature's agriculture committee for eight years. Throughout that time, Comer, his brother and his father ran a farming business with Comer valuing his portion of the company between $1 million and $5 million by the time he ascended to Congress.

That company, "Comer Land & Cattle," however, doesn't appear to exist on paper. Sollenberger reports that there is no record of an entity by that name in business filings with the Commonwealth of Kentucky or any other jurisdiction. The Daily Beast's statewide search for business officers also only associates Comer with three defunct entities and the still-active Tompkinsville-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, where he was a founding member but has since been removed.

Comer appeared to have changed the family business' focus from farming land to leasing it, a move he boasted in a podcast interview last month as the way he "accumulated wealth." The change in the company direction in 2019, following his father's death that year, came just ahead of Comer's departure from the House Agriculture Committee a year later with his official website no longer listing the committee by August.

The land swaps between Comer and his brother, Chad Comer, occurred months after they lost their father, who died without a will, according to Monroe County deed records. His two sons were then left to divvy up the land inheritance.

In an April 2019 land swap, James Comer gifted his brother, through a $1 transaction, his share of two inherited tracts in Clay County, Tennessee, with a share value amounting to $175,000, the deed of sale shows. The value of James Comer's share is the same as the full value of the property in 1994 when the brothers and their father first bought it for $175,000, according to the deed.

In September, Chad Comer applied for a "Greenbelt Assessment," on that property, Clay County records show. That special agricultural tax break assesses property taxes at its "use value" instead of fair market value provided the land generates a certain annual income.

The same day James Comer gave him that land, Chad Comer gave him an apparently more valuable piece of property in Tennessee, the exact value of which James Comer whited out on the deed, writing "exempt" in its place. Macon County records show that their father had originally purchased that land for $203,000 in 2015, meaning that while Comer appears to have netted a value of $30,000 in the land exchange, he did not make that public record.

The amount of money involved in these transactions is nowhere near the millions, but they're comparable to the Biden loans, the largest of which amounts to less than the 2015 value of Comer's "exempt" purchase, Sollenberger wrote.

Democrats had a field day with the revelation after Comer repeatedly hyped Biden's loan.

"Can't make this up," tweeted Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., shared Moskowitz's video.

Justice Department faces Senate investigation over alleged spying on congressional staffers
Story by Gabe Kaminsky • 23h

Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans are investigating allegations the Justice Department spied on congressional staffers while they probed the agency, including during its handling of the Trump-Russia inquiry, the Washington Examiner has learned.

Virginia-based whistleblower firm Empower Oversight said in a late October Freedom of Information Act request to the DOJ that its founder, Jason Foster, former chief investigative counsel to ex-Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), was notified on Oct. 19, 2023, that the agency in 2017 subpoenaed Google for records on Foster's telephone and email accounts, as well as those of other House and Senate staffers. Now, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Grassley are demanding the DOJ turn over a trove of documents on these allegations, which they wrote in a Monday letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demonstrate "executive branch overreach."

"We write to express deep concern regarding recent revelations that the Department of Justice engaged in a campaign of covert surveillance of the personal communications of attorneys advising congressional oversight committees," the senators wrote to Garland in the letter, first obtained by the Washington Examiner. "The decision by unelected government bureaucrats to investigate the elected congressional representatives and congressional staff trying to hold them accountable is a true attack on our democracy."

The Justice Department did not return a request for comment. The letter from the senators comes over a week after House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) launched a similar investigation, requesting information on spying allegations from the DOJ, Google parent company Alphabet, Apple, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Empower Oversight said in its October records request that ex-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in 2018 threatened to subpoena staffers on the House Intelligence Committee, including then-senior aide Kash Patel — later acting defense secretary under former President Donald Trump. The Cruz-led letter cited a story in the Federalist in mid-October in which the outlet said it "independently confirmed" a then-staffer on the House Intelligence Committee was notified of a subpoena previously issued in September 2017 by a Washington, D.C., grand jury.

The October request from Empower Oversight said Google handed over "a redacted copy" of the Foster subpoena, which "compelled Google to release customer or subscriber information, as well as subscribers’ names, addresses, local and long distance telephone connection records, text message logs, records of session times and durations, length of service and types of service utilized for the period from December 1, 2016 to May 1, 2017," according to the document.

Senate Republicans noted in their letter this week to Garland that the subpoena for Foster's "private phone and email logs" came as congressional investigators were reviewing material in connection to the FBI and DOJ's involvement in Crossfire Hurricane, the former inquiry into debunked allegations that Trump's 2016 presidential campaign coordinated with the Russian government. At the time, the FBI relied on the Steele Dossier, an unverified and discredited piece of opposition research in part funded by the failed Democratic presidential campaign for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.

On Nov. 2, Grassley sent his own letter to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz on the alleged spying, along with a list of questions on agency policies. On Wednesday, Horowitz told the senator in a letter that the inspector general "is conducting an ongoing Review of the Department of Justice’s Use of Subpoenas and Other Legal Authorities to Obtain Communication Records of Members of Congress and Affiliated Persons, and the News Media," according to documents reviewed by the Washington Examiner.

Horowitz said in the letter that the inspector general will eventually be issuing a public report on the issue. One day earlier, on Tuesday, the Justice Department itself issued a memo for federal prosecutors on "criminal investigations involving members of Congress and staff." The memo detailed policy changes for related inquiries, particularly requiring such investigations to be handled by the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section.

Cruz, Lee, and Grassley are asking the DOJ to provide the names of DOJ officials "that drafted, supervised, or approved the issuance of the grand jury subpoenas," and the identities of all staffers who received them.

According to Empower Oversight, some of the staffers targeted were also Democrats. Then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) in 2021 notably called for the DOJ's inspector general to look into why the Trump administration subpoenaed Apple for data from himself and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA).

The senators are also requesting Garland provide information on how the DOJ "searched for information relating to Members of Congress, congressional staff, or their families, including specific databases searched and use of FISA authorities or data previously collected under FISA authorities," the letter shows.

They were referring to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which is up for reauthorization this year and has been heavily scrutinized in recent years following the DOJ spying on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page without probable cause.

"Please indicate whether the department is still in possession of the documents it received pursuant to the grand jury subpoenas," the senators wrote in the letter. "If not, please provide the date and method of disposal."

"This extensive and far-reaching effort to use grand jury subpoenas and perhaps other means to gather the personal communications records of congressional staffers and their families with little or no legitimate predicate is absolutely unacceptable," they added. "The executive branch overreach and gross violation of separation of powers apparent in this case no doubt shocks the conscience and shakes public confidence in our justice system to its core. The public deserves answers."
