Iran sure seems to be having trouble with their missile launches. Which indicates to me at least probably Israel, the US or both have managed to sabotage them. And I am not saying that's a bad thing. But might be pretty easy to fix. And its a computer problem not something wrong with their rockets. But that is just my own suspicion.

Also Trump and @shootersa continue to lie about our troops being wounded in Iran's missile attack. First it was no one was injured. Then when they finally reported there were traumatic brain injuries Trump and @shootersa said they weren't serious. But now the number of troops with TBI is up to 109. And its just a grotesque lie to say none of them were seriously injured when at least 26 of them have not yet been able to return to duty. God I detest fake patriots.

Iran taunted the United States on the 41st anniversary Tuesday of the ouster of its ally the shah, as huge crowds took to the streets to mark the historic occasion.

Waving national flags and holding portraits of the founder of the Islamic republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the crowds converged on Tehran’s iconic Azadi Square braving sub-zero temperatures.

“It is unbearable for the United States to accept the victory of a great nation and that a superpower has been driven out of this land,” President Hassan Rouhani told the gathering.

“It is natural for them to have dreamt, for 41 years, of returning to this land, because they know that we are one of the most powerful countries” in the Middle East, he added.

Tehran and Washington have been sworn enemies since 1979, when the government of the US-backed shah was ousted and the Islamic republic established.

Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi had already fled the country weeks earlier after months of protests against his regime.

That November radical students demanding the shah’s extradition seized 52 hostages at the US embassy in Tehran and held them for 444 days, prompting Washington to sever ties.

The bad blood between Tehran and Washington worsened in 2018 when US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from a deal that froze Iran’s nuclear programme and reimposed crippling sanctions.

In the capital, the atmosphere was mixed, with some people casually strolling the streets with their children clutching balloons and others chanting hardline slogans and trampling on US and Israeli flags.

“Death to America” and “We will resist until the end”, read some of the banners they carried.

– Show of unity –

Women in black chadors held portraits of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Qasem Soleimani, a hugely popular general killed in a US drone strike last month.

Young men posed for selfies in front of a row of coffins draped in US flags and bearing the logos of companies seen as symbols of American imperialism.

Girls marched with backpacks bearing Soleimani’s face as patriotic songs and Koranic verses were played on loudspeakers and volunteers dished out bowls of soup to keep people warm.

“I’m here to support the authority of the Islamic republic,” one participant, Yasser Mohammadi, 37, told AFP.

“Maybe we have some problems internally, like the economy and mismanagement, but this won’t stop us supporting our Islamic republic.

“We want to show the world that what the US is doing is wrong, including the killing of Soleimani.”

State television showed crowds on the streets of the northern cities of Rasht and Tabriz, dressed in woolly scarves and hats and holding umbrellas, seemingly undeterred by heavy snowfall.

The state had appealed for a large turnout as a show of solidarity after a year in which Iran has been shaken by protests and military tensions with the United States.

“Securing our country and our region depends on our unity, and participation in this rally is a symbol of this unity,” said Hadi Khamenei, brother of the supreme leader.

Iran’s economy has been battered since May 2018, when Trump abandoned the multilateral nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions.

– Crucial elections –

When Iran raised petrol prices in November, nationwide protests erupted and turned violent before security forces put them down amid a near-total internet blackout.

Tensions with Washington escalated in early January when the US killed Soleimani, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ foreign operations arm, the Quds Force.

Iran retaliated by targeting US forces but then accidentally shot down a Ukrainian airliner, killing all 176 people on board, in a tragedy that sparked anger at home and abroad.

This year’s anniversary comes ahead of crucial parliamentary elections in Iran.

The alliance of moderates and reformers that propelled Rouhani to power in 2013 is scrambling to avoid losing its majority in the February 21 election.

Rouhani’s government has come under intense pressure from conservatives for agreeing the 2015 nuclear deal that has unravelled since Trump’s withdrawal.

“In the past two years, America has put so much pressure on our beloved people, on all of our trade, all of our exports, all of our imports, and all of the country’s needs, to exhaust the patience of our people,” Rouhani told Tuesday’s rally.

But “the Americans did not understand the greatness of the Iranian people,” he said.

“The United States believes it is facing 41 years of civilisation. No, the Americans are facing thousands of years of Iranian civilisation.”

I have read this too and frankly I do not know what to believe because the US has released no evidence or justification for the assination other than some unnamed embassies were under threat according to the bumbler in chief!

There are other candidates as well as Isis like Isreal, Russia, the Saudis, John Bolton, Hilary and Trump himself!

You have got to be one of the most stupid, ignorant, and naive (that is now three different things) fools in the world. My God how is it you don't fucking know that the instant any country launches a nuclear weapon all the other countries with nuclear weapons know. And since they have nothing to lose with incoming war heads they have at least several minutes to launch all their nuclear weapons. Its called Mutual Assured Destruction and has been since the 1960's. And you have to be one of the few humans in the civilized world that does not know that.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sat down with NBC News' Richard Engel last week and reflected on the violence between the United States and Iran last month. Zarif argued in the interview that the Trump administration brought the region very close to the brink." He added, "We were very close to a war."

There are still all kinds of questions, however, about why we were very close to a war. According to the Trump administration, the military offensive that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani was necessary in order to prevent an "imminent" attack. At least, that was the line in January. As the New York Times reported, the White House has dramatically changed its posture.

The White House told Congress on Friday that President Trump authorized the strike last month that killed Iran's most important general to respond to attacks that had already taken place and deter future ones, contradicting the president's claim that he acted in response to an imminent threat.

The official explanation for the U.S. military strike, which was sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is required by law, said that the offensive was intended as a "response to an escalating series of attacks in preceding months" by Iran and militias that enjoy Iranian support.

This seems like a good time to pause and take stock. As regular readers may recall, after Donald Trump authorized an airstrike that nearly sparked a war, Americans were told the mission was approved in order to prevent an imminent attack.

Well, maybe not imminent. But the president and his team certainly knew of a deadly attack Soleimani was planning. Except maybe "knew" was too strong a word, since the administration didn't know who, what, where, or when the general intended to strike. Except the opposite might also be true, since Trump said Soleimani was targeting an embassy. No, wait, not just any embassy, but the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. Hold on, maybe it was four embassies.

After these meandering and contradictory explanations for the airstrike effectively collapsed, the president told a group of donors at Mar-a-Lago that he approved the strike that killed Soleimani because the general "was saying bad things about our country."

I know I've stressed this point a few times, but we're dealing with a dynamic in which the president risked a war for reasons that now appear illegitimate -- just as his Senate impeachment trial was poised to get underway. While his most sycophantic followers may find that satisfactory, the rest of the political world need not accept politically motivated lies about national security so casually.

Rockets Hit Baghdad’s Green Zone Near U.S. Embassy, Officials Say

Iraqi officials said at least three rockets hit Baghdad’s protected Green Zone close to the American Embassy on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. A spokesperson for the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq said the rockets fell at least 1.2 miles away from the embassy in an area that consists of Iraqi government buildings and several embassies. There were no reports of casualties. The attack comes one day after the Iraqi army said rockets also hit the Basmaya base in Baghdad, hitting agricultural land and a factory. Spanish forces in the U.S.-led coalition—along with NATO trainers—were reportedly present at the time, but they did not confirm the attack. No militant group has claimed responsibility. Last week, another camp near Baghdad—Camp Taji—was hit by over two dozen rockets. Two Americans and a British serviceman were killed, and the U.S. responded with airstrikes that targeted the weapons facilities of Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia group thought to be behind the attack.

Iran issues arrest warrant for Trump, asks Interpol to help
The US killed General Soleimani and others in a January drone attack near Baghdad International Airport.

Iran has issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining US President Donald Trump and dozens of others it believes carried out the drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad.

Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday that Trump, along with more than 30 others Iran accuses of involvement in the January 3 attack that killed General Qassem Soleimani, face "murder and terrorism charges", the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

Alqasimehr did not identify anyone else sought other than Trump, but stressed Iran would continue to pursue his prosecution even after his presidency ends.

Interpol, based in Lyon, France, said in a statement that its constitution forbade it to undertake "any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character".

"Therefore, if or when any such requests were to be sent to the General Secretariat," it added, "... Interpol would not consider requests of this nature."

The US's Iran envoy Brian Hook described the move as a "propaganda stunt".

"Our assessment is that Interpol does not intervene and issue Red Notices that are based on a political nature," Hook said at a news conference in Saudi Arabia.

"This is a political nature. This has nothing to do with national security, international peace or promoting stability ... It is a propaganda stunt that no-one takes seriously," he said.

Red notice request
Alqasimehr was also quoted as saying Iran had requested a "red notice" be put out for Trump and the others, the highest-level notice issued by Interpol, requesting that seeks the location and arrest of the individual named.

Under a red notice, local authorities make the arrests on behalf of the country that requested it. The notices cannot force countries to arrest or extradite suspects, but can put government leaders on the spot and limit suspects' travel.

After receiving a request, Interpol meets by committee and discusses whether or not to share the information with its member states. Interpol has no requirement for making any of the notices public, though some do get published on its website.

It is unlikely Interpol would grant Iran's request as its guideline for notices forbids it from "undertaking any intervention or activities of a political" nature.

The US killed General Soleimani, who oversaw the Revolutionary Guard Corps's expeditionary Quds Force, and others in the January attack near Baghdad International Airport.

The assassination came after months of incidents raising tensions between the two countries and ultimately saw Iran retaliate with a ballistic missile strike targeting American troops in Iraq.

It's okay. Trump didn't know about the plan to assassinate General Soleimani until he read about it the Washington Post. He had never been briefed on the operation.

Trump was quoted, "I don't know the man. Never met General Whatshisname. You'll have to ask Mike Pompeo. Later today I'll say it's John Bolton did it, but I don't know him either."
