I did an Internet search for "page claim". This is what I found.

The purpose of the page claim stuff, was, as far as I was concerned, done to mildly irritate people and ultimately get someone to ask the question "what the fark is it about".

Goal achieved.

Blame Dogtired, he started it. I gather that it was a form of game on some forums or something.

I joined in at some point, specifically to see if anyone would ask about it eventually, and to see how many others would start doing it.
