The Man Behind the Tooth

For how innovative the technology, the name doesn’t sound techie. It’s not an acronym and doesn’t stand for anything. So what does it mean?

Surprisingly, the name dates back more than a millennia to King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson who was well known for two things:

• Uniting Denmark and Norway in 958.
• His dead tooth, which was a dark blue/grey color, and earned him the nickname Bluetooth.

The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" was the Air Force main bomber from 1948 until it was replaced by Boeing's B-52 Stratofortress.
Some interesting facts about this beast;

• The B-36 is the largest mass-produced piston engine aircraft ever built.
• It has the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built, at 230 ft (70 m).
• It had a range of 10,000 miles and a maximum payload of 87,200 lb.
• It had 6 Pratt and Whitney radial engines, each with 28 cylinders.
• Each cylinder had two spark plugs, which meant the plane had a total of 312 spark plugs.
• The wing was so massive, it had a crawl space big enough to allow crew access to each engine while in flight.
• Later, 2 jet engines were added to the end of each wing, so that the peacemaker became the first and only 10 engine combat aircraft in service.
• It carried an amazing 30,600 gallons of fuel and had 100 gallon oil tanks for each piston engine, for a total of 600 gallons of oil.
• It took a crew of 13 people to fly this beast.
