I know your question was intended for Don, but I will take the liberty of putting in my 2 cents worth.

On the forum stories site, I prefer reading a short tale. For the other stories site, I prefer reading a longer tale. Generally, my posted writings on each site reflect my reading preferences.

Finally getting around to answer your question.

I generally don't care for reading stories on the forum, with some exceptions. One exception is Sissy's heart-rending story, written on the same thread with posts of the 'next chapter'. Patlaborvi does the same with his stories and I follow him closely. The story (thread) becomes very long with upwards of 20 chapters, but when it is posted in pretty short chapters on the same thread, I like it.

One thing I do not care for is a story being posted on the forum with a new thread being created for each chapter. Finding all of the chapters is sometimes less than fun and tends to turn me off.

Sorry that I tend to ramble on, but that's the penalty you pay for asking a question of an old guy like me.

This is what I was able to find out about the website:

Our host was been attacked 2 days ago. This is a major crisis...
Here is a message sent to all their customers on Saturday:

"We are writing this letter to inform you that a very targeted
malicious attack took place on our network this morning at 6AM EST.
As a result, most of our server operating systems have been corrupted
resulting in the current downtime. However, we have access to all
backups and have already figured out a strategy for bringing your
servers back up, and have all hands on deck working to restore
service. We will continue sending progress updates, and will be
notifying you personally once your service is restored. We would like
to thank everyone for being so understanding and patient as we work to
bring everything back to normal.

Currently we have backups for the majority of the content and are
working to finalize the restore process. At which point we will be able
to provide more accurate ETAs on service restoration."

For me - no more than 30 typed pages. I don't like them too short, but honestly, sometimes I get lost when there are massive amounts of chapters.

I guess this is one of those bad new/good news situations. As always, I hope the good news triumphs!!!

 

My internet service has been out since Saturday. I finally get it back up and working late last night, surf on over to the stories of XN and......nothing. Was kinda freaked out there for a bit, lol. Hope they get things back up and running soon. Kinda makes me wonder what will happen if, by some weird glitch, they couldn't restore all the stories from the stories side. Wow. Talk about cleaning house .

 

There is a sticky in General Discussion called Web Update - check there for any new information. Apparently, this was a disgruntled employee and it affected several companies.

 

I wish someone would find our Stories Site.
