One way we have always been able to know another bombshell is about to go off concerning the Mueller investigation is Trump starts freaking out on twitter. Most often projecting his own guilt onto others. But now we also know how Trump knows. It has always been assumed Trump has his own sources inside the DOJ and FBI. Which is probably true. But now we also know that the Gang of 8 also gets briefed on the investigation and that Rep Devin Nunes must run straight to Trump with anything he hears in those briefings. So you bet Trump is freaking out because Andrew McCabe just exposed their favorite right wing false propaganda talking point that somehow it is just rogue elements in the DOJ and FBI trying to investigate Trump when in reality members of Congress have been informed every step of the way.

President Donald Trump closed Presidents Day weekend with a repeat performance of his late Sunday night into early Monday morning tweetstorm. For the second night in a row the President was up late Monday launching angry – and this time, juvenile – tweets, attacking his favorite targets: the Mueller investigation, former Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, and, as usual, the media.

And accusing some, like McCabe, of *“Treason!”

Trump tweet--“The biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in our history, and it’s much worse than we thought. Andrew McCabe (FBI) admitted to plotting a coup (government overthrow) when he was serving in the FBI, before he was fired for lying & leaking.” @seanhannity @FoxNews Treason!

Trump was clearly watching Fox News’ Sean Hannity when he tweeted that attack, and clearly he liked the “lying & leaking” part because about 30 minutes later, this juvenile attack:

Trump tweet--**Remember this, Andrew McCabe didn’t go to the bathroom without the approval of Leakin’ James Comey!

Less than nine hours later, Trump was back with the attacks, again, quoting Fox News:

And then, minutes later, the media:

And then, the Democrats. Trump has literally no idea how the U.S. court system works. He thinks California has the option of filing a lawsuit in, say, Maine. They don’t. The 9th Circuit has jurisdiction over California, but Trump doesn’t understand that, so he displays his ignorance time and time again. But he’s also wrong: it’s 16 states, not cities, led by California.

Trump tweet--“As I predicted, *****16 cities, led mostly by Open Border Democrats and the Radical Left, have filed a lawsuit in, of course, the 9th Circuit! California, the state that has wasted billions of dollars on their out of control Fast Train, with no hope of completion, seems in charge!”

But Trump doesn't just call congressmen for praise. He also calls Republican congressmen to tell them what to subpoena so he can find out what's going on in the Mueller investigation. And some of them do it.

Trump ‘phone bombs’ GOP lawmakers at all hours looking for ‘praise’: report

President Donald Trump does not use computers, but will pick up the phone to call conservative lawmakers, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

“The chatterbox in chief has eschewed the traditional way that presidents communicate with members of Congress, calling lawmakers at all hours of the day without warning and sometimes with no real agenda,” The Post explained. “Congressional Republicans reciprocate in kind, increasingly dialing up the president directly to gauge his thinking after coming to terms with the fact that ultimately, no one speaks for Trump but Trump himself.”

Republican senators say they also have called Trump just to offer positive reinforcement and praise,” The Post added.

One of the lawmakers who chats on the phone is Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY).

“I just feel comfort in calling President Trump. He calls me regularly to talk about issues,” Barrasso said. “He’s always helpful for both of us.”

*Trump’s habit of watching cable news drives many of the calls.

“Other times, he talks about what he just saw on television or asks about golf. Barrasso said their calls, usually about 10 minutes or so, span several topics and sometimes are prompted by a Barrasso appearance on cable television or a Sunday political talk show,” The Post reported. “The president’s penchant for trying to contact senators after watching them on television has forced his aides to scramble at times — **White House officials who are unsuccessful reaching senators directly will often then track down their aides to say the president wants to talk.”

President Barack Obama would schedule calls with an agenda instead of just calling to chat about golf or cable TV appearances.

“I cannot recall Obama phone bombing people for anything substantive,” a former senior Obama White House official said.

Trump’s phone buddies include Senators James Inhofe (R-OK), David Perdue (R-GA), Rand Paul (R-KY), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tom Cotton (R-AK), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Rick Scott (R-FL).

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the chair of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, was also noted.

President Donald Trump insisted investigators would find no evidence of collusion, even as special counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly neared completion of his Russia probe.

The White House reportedly expects Mueller to turn in his report any day now to newly confirmed attorney general William Barr, and the president tweeted out an all-caps denial of wrongdoing during the 2016 election involving Russian interference.

Reid has been an outspoken critic of the president since the election. President Donald Trump on Sunday declared that he is “an innocent man.”

Writing on Twitter, the president lashed out at what he said were “very bad people.”

“I am an innocent man being persecuted by some very bad, conflicted & corrupt people in a Witch Hunt that is illegal & should never have been allowed to start – And only because I won the Election! Despite this, great success!” Trump said.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the outburst because the first part of the president’s tweet was apparently omitted.

Trump appeared to be losing his mind in delusional CPAC speech — why didn’t media cover it that way?

On Saturday, Donald Trump was scheduled to give a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). What the audience got, however, can hardly be described as a speech. Instead, Trump unleashed a two-hour-plus rant that sounded at times, more like the delusional ramblings of someone hopped up on drugs or suffering a mental breakdown than anything resembling a normal political speech.

If that sounds like an exaggeration informed by partisan bias — seriously, it’s not. Trump kicked the thing off by hugging the American flag, and that might have been the least strange part of the whole spectacle. Reporters Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star and Aaron Rupar of Vox live-tweeted the whole thing, and captured, for those of us who can’t stand watching the president monologue for two hours, how straight-up weird the whole event was, even by Trumpian standards.

Trump pinged wildly from topic to topic, ranting about how Democrats want to take away electricity and murder newborns. He engaged in a lengthy rape fantasy about how female immigrants take “massive amounts of birth control” because they supposedly get raped so much. He also veered into peculiar personal anecdotes, such as the one about how a rich friend of his — who he assured the audience is very famous — is afraid of public speaking. And, of course, he raved about how unfair it is that he’s under investigation for possible criminal conspiracy with Russian intelligence to throw the election, and whined about how it should be easier for him to obstruct justice.

But those who learned about the speech from glancing at mainstream news headlines the next morning would have no idea how flat-out bonkers the whole thing was.

I grew up in Texas, where the habit of droll understatement is alive and well. I recall one incident in my youth, where a friend and I saw a man riding a bicycle on the street in Austin clad only in a thong. After taking the scene in, my companion’s one remark was, “Well, isn’t that something?”

That’s what these headlines reminded me of, except that the people writing them weren’t trying to be funny.

The actual articles under those headlines aren’t much better, describing the event as “a largely unscripted, wide-ranging speech” and “the longest speech of his presidency to date” or even “a slashing speech packed with braggadocio and grievance” but not really capturing how wild the whole thing was. Readers might get that the speech was long or dishonest or even incendiary, but not how disjointed and frankly unhinged it was.

From the beginning of Trump’s campaign, and even more so during his presidency, there has been legitimate concern that the mainstream media — with its focus on seeming neutral, objective and balanced — was simply not up to the task of adequately conveying Trump’s bizarre, authoritarian madness to their audiences. This response to his CPAC appearance shows that those concerns were well-founded.

There’s simply no way to accurately describe Trump’s behavior without sounding hysterical or, heaven forbid, “biased.” So most media outlets resort to euphemistic language or focus on technically true observations — it’s accurate that Trump criticized special counsel Robert Mueller — while sliding past the more relevant detail, such as the fact that the president of the United States was babbling like a man who hasn’t slept in days.

After the debacle that was the 2016 election, many of us hoped that the mainstream media would learn its lesson about favoring “balance” and “objectivity” over the more old-fashioned journalistic concern for truth. It was an election cycle where Hillary Clinton’s minor flaws were routinely exaggerated and Trump’s outrageous behavior was routinely underplayed, all out of a misplaced sense of fairness. It’s probably true that most people in mainstream media did not expect Trump to win the election, and that surprise outcome should have been a wake-up call. It’s not clear that the lesson was learned.

The coverage of last week’s congressional testimony from Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer — who is going to federal prison for crimes he committed on Trump’s behalf — illustrates how much the mainstream media is still worried about “balance” rather than about telling the full story.

By far the most important takeaway from Cohen’s hearing should have been the pathetic display by Republican members of the House Oversight Committee. With the sole exception of Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, every single Republican avoided asking substantive or serious questions of Cohen. They simply impugned his character (which isn’t difficult), lied in Trump’s defense and teed up excuses for their voters to ignore the growing evidence of the president’s criminality.

But instead of focusing on the real story here, which is that one of the two relevant American political parties has been completely consumed by corruption, much of the mainstream coverage focused instead on how “partisan” or “divisive” the hearing was.

“As with so many other moments of the Trump era, the hearing seemed to be as much about partisan theater as fact-finding,” the New York Times front page story read, equating “Democrats and Republicans” with “their conflicting narratives about the man who once served Mr. Trump.”

Again, it’s technically true that both parties were angling for some political gain here, but to focus on that aspect is far more misleading than illuminating. The more important story here is not this surface similarity, but the wildly different attitudes the two parties brought to the questions of criminal conduct and transparency.

To put it bluntly, Democrats spent the Cohen hearing trying to expose crimes and Republicans spent it trying to cover them up. To simply describe the difference as “partisan” is to fail readers by drawing a false equivalence between moral and immoral behavior, and to suggest that doing right and doing wrong are equally dirty, if there’s any political gain to be had from either. This kind of coverage portrays political grandstanding, a venal sin, as no better or no different from actively covering up criminal activity.

To be certain, events like Trump’s CPAC speech or Cohen’s congressional testimony were broadcast live on cable TV, so anyone who cared to could simply watch and decide for herself. Realistically, however, few Americans have the time or stomach for such a thing. Instead, they rely on mainstream news sources to boil these events down and highlight the most relevant aspects. Mainstream media outlets’ routine failure to focus on the most critical issues, in a bid to sound neutral or objective, isn’t serving their audiences, nor any standard of truth or fairness.

The biggest takeaway from Trump’s speech at CPAC was that the president of the United States is acting as if he were losing his mind. That’s not all that surprising when you consider that his former right-hand man just accused him, under oath, of committing numerous crimes. But someone who takes in the news the way most Americans do — by checking out headlines and reading a few paragraphs of a story, at most — would just assume that Trump was angry this weekend, rather than monumentally unhinged. That level of ignorance could matter a lot in the 2020 election.

Why Trump’s ‘grandiose paranoid character’ appeals to his supporters — despite his broken promises: Harvard psychoanalyst

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump addressed the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC), making multiple misleading claims about the economy, the wall and his tax cuts. According to the Washington Post, the speech contained 104 misleading claims, bringing his total number of false or fishy statements to roughly 9,014 over the course of his administration.

Raw Story spoke with Dr. Henry J. Friedman, M.D., Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, about why the President finds it so easy to lie and the unique dynamic he has with his base that lets him get away with it.

Friedman is a contributor to “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President,” edited by Bandy X. Lee, the expanded edition of which is to be released this month. He brings a psychoanalytic perspective to understand the totalitarian mindset, which presents a multifold threat to the world.

Tana Ganeva: According to one report, Trump’s CPAC speech contained 104 instances of lies. Why do you think the President finds it so easy to lie?

Dr. Henry J. Friedman: When facing an audience that responds to him with adulation, he is inclined to present his worst tendencies in excess because he knows it pleases his base if he is extremely opposed to established standards of truth and politeness.

Trump’s base love him for liberating them to hate illegal immigrants and indulge their hatred of social change, of same sex marriage or woman’s rights and the rise of African Americans as a powerful political and social presence in the United States. His stance against equality for disavowed minority groups is exactly what they find attractive in him. He liberates their worst inclinations and fights against those who want to see the best in humanity dominate our society.

Tana Ganeva: How is the President different in front of his supporters?

Dr. Henry J. Friedman: He is empowered by such an audience to state things he wants to believe in as facts, as truths. He flirts with open totalitarian positions because these please this particular audience who find his authoritarian positions compatible with what they desire in a leader.

His base prefers a leader who is authoritarian and ruthless about getting what he personally wants, as this often reflects their experience with parents, particularly fathers who insisted on obedience. Trump demands that the world operate as he wants it to be, not as it actually is. Authority isn’t authoritarianism, hence it is easy to confuse a strong leader who represents all of our citizens from an authoritarian leader who panders to the worst desires of some groups in terms of their destructive impulses directed at other less powerful citizens.

Tana Ganeva: Can you explain why the President still has such a fervent following, despite arguably breaking a lot of his campaign promises, such as having Mexico pay for a wall at the Southwest border?

Dr. Henry J. Friedman: They respond not to his campaign promises or even to his actual accomplishments, which may be against their actual interests, but because his grandiose paranoid character appeals to them.

He always is ready to attack anyone who opposes him. His enemies are constructed by him, but they are what many individuals personally do in their own relationships with those around them. What his followers want is his immoderate, rash and destructive “self directed against an enemy.”

His followers are pleased with his leadership because they believe in the dangers that he insists are present when in fact they are non-existent except in his paranoid thinking. A grandiose paranoid leader appeals to and preys upon the paranoid fears of the many citizens who constitute his base.

Tana Ganeva: How does your psychoanalytic background inform you about what is happening?

Dr. Henry J. Friedman: Absolutely, this kind of grandiose paranoid character is frequently encountered in our work with patients, but in a much attenuated form or only directed at those in the grandiose paranoid individual’s family or who are employed by him or her. Those of us who work with paranoid patients understand the insistent need to find an enemy, to see an exaggerated form of danger coming from the hated others who will damage you unless they are contained and ultimately destroyed either by deportation or simply being kept out of the country.

Tana Ganeva: How can mental health expertise help the nation?

Dr. Henry J. Friedman: By giving words and concepts from our work that help the public in putting words and concepts to the anxieties that they feel, without being able to label it in such a way that they understand why Trump must be opposed, not allow to do his “Hitler routine” and destroy the free press and any criticism of his behavior and desires.

The more Trump is able to destroy the free press by denouncing it as fake news, the more he will be able to keep the public uninformed and unable to oppose his draconian approach to anything or anyone who threatens his domination and control. We in mental health can see more clearly what others see, because we recognize it from our work in treating and evaluating those who are fearful and aggressive because they are filled with hatred and loathing of all who are different from them.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump addressed the Veteran’s Administration, doubling down on claims that Democrats are wasting everyone’s time by investigating possible crimes committed by Trump and his associates.

‘They just haven’t gotten used to the fact that we won a lot of states that Republicans hadn’t won in a long time,” Trump said about the 2016 election.

“They want to play games,” he added.

“It’s too bad, I’d rather see them do legislation …. things like infrastructure but they want to focus on nonsense,” he concluded. The President refused to take questions.

Trump tells RNC donors: "The Democrats hate Jewish people"

To prevent leaks from Trump's Friday night Mar-a-Lago speech to RNC donors, security guards made attendees put their cellphones in magnetized pouches that they carried around like purses until they left the club.

So leakers had to rely on their memories. Trump entered to Lee Greenwood’s "Proud to Be an American," then launched into one of his trademark stream-of-consciousness speeches, according to three people who were there. They said the crowd roared with laughter throughout.

Some of his remarks raised eyebrows.

1. Referring to the recent anti-Semitism controversies with Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, Trump told the donors: "The Democrats hate Jewish people."

Trump said he didn't understand how any Jew could vote for a Democrat these days. Trump talked about how much he'd done for Israel, noting his historic decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Trump said if he could run to be prime minister of Israel, he'd be at 98% in the polls, according to three sources who were there.

2. Trump went off on what one guest called a "bizarre tangent." He described being home alone in the White House over Christmas "while the Democrats were in Hawaii."

Trump described opening his curtain to look at Secret Service agents swarming the White House lawn. "They're in the trees, on the lawn," he said.

He said he saw agents wearing night vision goggles. "They're in blackface," Trump added, jokingly referring to the masks over the agents' faces.

Trump joked that the agents were "in blackface" because of the masks so maybe "they have to take them away," according to two sources who were there. (The sources assumed Trump was referring to the recent controversy in which the Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam was caught in a racist costume in his 1984 medical school yearbook.)

Trump only mentioned three 2020 Democrats in his remarks: Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Trump called Biden "the dummy."

He announced that he now calls Sanders "the nutty professor" instead of "Crazy Bernie."

Referring to Warren's low poll numbers, Trump said he "took her out really early" and that he doesn't want to do that to anybody else.

‘Befuddled Old Goofball’: Internet explodes in laughter over Trump’s ridiculous defense of ‘Tim Apple’ flub

On Monday, President Donald Trump attacked the media over reports that he had called Apple’s CEO Tim Cook “Tim Apple,” once again denouncing them as “fake news.”

Trump tweet--At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. The Fake News was disparagingly all over this, & it became yet another bad Trump story!

Yet, video footage of the incident — which occurred at Mar-a-Lago on Friday — shows otherwise. The internet reacted with glee to the president’s unlikely claim.
