Is Trump about to fire the special prosecutor ?

Apparently , reports say he is.
But it is just reports ,
and I haven't heard any attribution.

So I guess it's just a rumour ,
until he tweets it

Then he'll need a special investigator to find out who leaked it.

And then he'll need an extraspecial prosecutor.

 

Trump wanted to fire the Special Counsel but his White House advisors went into full blown panic mode and convinced him if he did it would be political suicide so he backed off. But in the meantime now the Special Counsel has expanded his investigation into Trump's possible obstruction of justice.

And this is just a nit picking detail but I have been erroneously referring to the Special Counsel as a Special Prosecutor. But that is actually incorrect because congress allowed the "Special Prosecutor" law to lapse and did not renew it. So the Special Counsel operates under a different set of rules which believe it or not allows the President to tell the Department of Justice to fire him. And that would usually be the Attorney General but he had to recuse himself so the decision would have to go to the Deputy Attorney General who would have the choice of either firing the special counsel or resigning. And if the Deputy AG resigned Trump could just keep going down the DOJ ladder until he finally found someone willing to do it. That's what Nixon did in what became known as the Saturday Night Massacre where he wanted to fire the Special prosecutor and several peole resigned before he finally got Robert Bork to do it.

But that is also what got Nixon's obstruction of justice so apparent he finally had to resign before he was impeached.
