Why yes, we should follow the arrogant elite liberal practice of having non experts create regulations for industries they do not understand and have never worked in. That way, they can concentrate on what feels good and sounds good, no matter that it is unworkable.

And of course, demonize those industries and the experts in them in the process.

OMG shootersa you rarely fail to make me laugh. These are the same people you claim are bribing the members of congress in all other threads is cause for you beloved revolution. This is putting the foxes in charge of guarding the hen house but just as long as its Trump doing if that's just fine. But then you will on all other threads rant and rave about your revolution. You literally are hilarious and have no concept of irony when you try to refer to me as Don Quixote when you are the epitome of tilting at windmills.

And that is what makes you and your imaginary revolution honestly and truly just laughable.

Join the revolution. Then it won't be imaginary, will it?
Or do you like the members of Congress taking care of their business and not ours?

The costs are, of course, a small part of the mounting expenses the Secret Service has spent to protect Trump since he took office. Back in March, the agency requested an additional $60 million to cover the costs. Last week, lease negotiations between the General Services Administration and the Trump Organization reportedly fell apart, resulting in the Secret Service vacating its command center in Trump Tower.

You people aren't thinking this through.
If you so hate what Trump is doing while in the White House, you should be just trembling with ecstasy when he's not working.

Think about it. What is it worth to keep the pompous gas bag out of the oval office, signing executive orders? Isn't it better that he's out whacking a little ball around?

The cost of his golf game isn't so bad now, is it?

That is, unless you just want something else to spew about............

Republicans, cut the outrage. It’s time to disown Trump.

By Jennifer Rubin August 16 at 9:15 AM

The party of Lincoln is now the party of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and Southern slave owners who decided to kill fellow Americans so that they could keep men, women and children enslaved. The Republican Party, in other words, has obliterated its entire historical legacy and become the party of the Enemies of Lincoln.

And let’s be clear: Republicans cannot say, “That’s not us — that’s just President Trump.” They supported him, they elected him, they defended him and they gave him the aura of a normal presidency. They cannot be the party of Lincoln and be the party of Trump. In that vein, we can dispense with Republicans’ “outrage,” “frustration,” “anger” and all other meaningless expressions of internal sentiment. Unless and until they are prepared to do something — not just send tweets — to politically disown Trump, the party is toast and none of its members should be elected or reelected.

How would they do this? First, elected officials must deny Trump the audience he so desperately craves. They need not appear with him, nor invite him to the Hill. (The State of the Union can be delivered from the White House or in writing; he would besmirch the House by appearing there.) Lawmakers and state officials should not troop to the White House for photo ops. They can communicate with the White House by phone or through aides. In short, Trump must be shunned and ostracized. He is not fit for polite company, let alone the presidency. He has demolished the rules of civilized behavior, and therefore should enjoy none of the ceremonial niceties that are extended to normal presidents.

Second, beyond resolutions condemning Trump’s remarks, every member of Congress should do his or her utmost to remove the neo-Nazi iconography in their districts and states. Neo-Nazis have claimed the Confederacy as their own — and therefore have reminded the rest of us that the Confederate statutes are not tributes to patriotism, gallantry or liberty but to treason, inhumanity and slavery. That is why neo-Nazis identify with these symbols of the Old South. That is why they have no place in a democratic society built on the principle that “All men are created equal.” State and local officials need to carefully examine school curriculum to make sure students are not confused as to the heroes and the villains in the Civil War. Every student should learn to spot and debunk the “Lost Cause” propaganda. Perhaps April 9 should be a national holiday commemorating the Confederacy’s surrender and the magnanimity displayed by President Abraham Lincoln and U.S. generals toward their defeated foes.

Third, Cabinet members, sub-Cabinet officials, staffers and outside participants on councils, commissions and committees must leave the administration. It’s not enough, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, to look on with a pained expression as the president declares that some of the white nationalists were “very fine” folks. He deceived you and others as to what he would say and he has shown himself unfit. You cannot serve in the administration of a neo-Nazi sympathizer. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, why stay in an administration in which you command so little respect and in which you must lend your own reputation to a disgraceful president? (Defense Secretary Jim Mattis should remain, a final backstop to prevent a military disaster.)

Fourth, Republicans must treat the president as they would someone not of their party — for he is not, to repeat, of the party of Lincoln. If Hillary Clinton refused to release her tax returns, hired unqualified relatives, kept business ventures that posed a conflict of interest and violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause, Republicans would commence hearings and pass legislation to put an end to all of it. It’s long past the time that Trump should be permitted to escape the kind of inquiry Republicans would insist upon for any Democratic president. By refusing to do so, the GOP is saying: “He’s one of ours. He’s a Republican, so we don’t rock the boat.”

Fifth, now would be a fine time for formation of a third party, one that can at the end of the Trump presidency repeal and replace the GOP. The Free Republican Party, the Appomattox Republicans (It cannot be said enough: The Confederates were losers) or whatever ex-Republicans in the center-right call themselves can endorse for office defectors from the GOP and reclaim Republicans who have disassociated themselves with the GOP thanks to Trump. Moderate Republican House members of the Tuesday Group, the new Centrist Project (dedicated to backing independent candidates), members of Stand Up Republic (founded by 2016 conservative independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin and his former running mate, Mindy Finn) and others have the chance to stake their claim as the true successors to the party of Lincoln. Those who have wrestled with the question as to whether the GOP could be reformed or whether it should be discarded in light of Trump’s GOP takeover have their answer. If they cannot disgorge him, they must start over.

In sum, Republicans’ words are insufficient and, at this point, insufferable. When we look back at this time, the only thing people will ask is: “What did you do?” Republicans will need a better answer than “I was outraged and gave tough quotes — on background.”

Trump-- I know business and can work with industry leaders

Well that sure turns out to be I told you so that's total bullshit.

He had to disband to business councils today after he found out the businessmen were going to disband them themselves. So he had to hurry up and try and save face.

He could have just as easily replaced them, but instead thanked them for their service and moved on.

Did the business councils disband because they believe Trump doesn't know business, or from political pressure?

    About the ‘deplorables’ . . .

    By Jennifer Rubin August 17

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was vilified for calling some of her opponent’s supporters “deplorables.” During the campaign we noted her opponent’s reliance on white grievance and negative racial stereotypes. Pollsters could see that during the campaign — no surprise — those voters with the most racial animus were drawn to then-candidate Donald Trump. (“Trump performs best among Americans who express more resentment toward African Americans and immigrants and who tend to evaluate whites more favorably than minority groups.”) Polling and statistical analysis after the election confirmed the role race and xenophobia played in the campaign, far outweighing economic anxiety. This did not mean that all Trump voters were racists, but some clearly were; for others, Trump’s racist appeals didn’t bother them enough to deter them for voting for him on other grounds (e.g., his business background, his promises on trade).

Now we fast forward to Charlottesville. Trump has spun a tale of moral equivalency between white nationalists and those who oppose them. He’s said some of those who participated were “fine” people. (Do fine people accompany neo-Nazis shouting anti-Semitic slurs, using the Nazi salute and embracing Nazi iconography?) And yet there is a segment of GOP voters who still defend him, agree with his response and have sympathy for the false narrative of white victimhood, an essential component of neo-Nazis’ and white supremacists’ ideology which seeks to “reclaim” (from Jews, minorities, foreigners, etc.) their country, as David Duke likes to say.

So who are the people who still support Trump? It would be those who have been willing to tolerate his history of birtherism, his continued vilification of the “Central Park Five” (even after they were exonerated), his racial attack on Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel, his declaration that Mexican immigrants were “murderers,” the portrait of African American life as a war zone, and now even his efforts to shield neo-Nazis and white nationalists from blame. Those who after all of that still back him either share his racist beliefs or have an incredibly high tolerance for racism.

Moreover, if Trump voters tolerated his racism during the campaign because they thought Clinton was a she-devil or because they were convinced he possessed unique skills or because they thought he’d be controlled by congressional leaders, what is their excuse now? Clinton isn’t the alternative to Trump. (Vice President Pence is.) Trump is not demonstrating even a smidgen of competence or ability to enact the agenda he promised. Even if you thought in the campaign his racism was mitigated by other factors (we find that entirely reprehensible, but let’s continue) those other factors don’t exist any more. All that is left is the white-nationalist sympathizer.

In sum, there is no non-deplorable rationale for continuing to defend this president, his rhetoric and his moral obtuseness. No one is asked to confess error in voting for him (although some self-scrutiny would be appreciated). Nevertheless, continuing to deny he is unfit for office and to make excuses for his verbiage makes one complicit in his racial divisiveness and his determination to provide aid and comfort to neo-Nazis and white nationalists.

Some delude themselves by thinking that Trump can show “greater moral clarity” (!) (as the Republican Jewish Coalition preposterously did) or that staying in the administration prevents damage to the country (as Gary Cohn, John F. Kelly and others apparently do) or that the 2016 voters’ verdict cannot be upset with no regard for subsequent events (as Republican lawmakers insist). Let’s be blunt, these are rationalizations for continued support for an unfit, racist president. It does in fact make one deplorable.

Was Trump the perfect candidate? No. Was he the best choice given the options given? Yes. We have him until 2020, so we can either work with him or continue to fight him. I choose to work with him.

    Here's the thing.
The media has manipulated the US populace with increasing impact. A free and independent press no longer exists in the United States.
    Consider;
5 Corporations own or control 90% of Mass Media in the United States.
Time Warner, Disney, Murdochs' News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom (formerly CBS) have, since the 1980's, consolidated mass media in the United States. Their control spans most of the newspapers, magazines, books, radio and TV stations, movie studios, and much of the web news content of the United States. These conglomerates are in large measure responsible for inculcating the social, political, economic, and moral values of both adults and children in the United States.
    And they do.
All the five major media conglomerates are members of the Council on Foreign relations. This organization has been instrumental in formulating US government policies resulting in sanctions, destabilization efforts, and outright military attacks on nations which have never attacked the US.

These companies have also received from the Reagan, Clinton, and Bush administrations progressively greater media deregulation, which permitted ever greater media ownership concentration, culminating for the first time in allowing all the media in a community or city to be owned by one company.

    Big brother exists.

Consider how Saddam Hussein was dealt with. For many years he was praised as a “stalwart ally” and we sent billions of dollars’ worth of military aid to him.

Then, in the twinkling of an eye he became a “tyrant,” a “ruthless killer,” a possessor of “weapons of mass destruction” aimed at the US and a man whose country must be invaded.

Iran was a stalwart ally of the US once we had participated in putting the Shah into power through a violent coup, but when he was overthrown he was abandoned and villified by the media.

Or Afghanistan and the Taliban; for years the US government supported the Taliban with weapons and training and portrayed them as freedom fighters against the Russian occupiers. The media happily sold this narrative to the public until 9/11. Even though no evidence existed to show that the Taliban had anything to do with 9/11 they became, according to the media, 'medievalists,''oppressors of women,' and harborers of terrorism who must be eliminated via a US invasion.

It is well known that 15 of the 19 9/11 terrorists were Saudi nationals and that Saudi Arabian officials "unofficially" supported Al Qaeda, but the US has never (yet) treated Saudi Arabia as an enemy or made much of the connection between 9/11 and Saudi Arabia. Because Saudi Arabia is, at least for the moment, an ally.

And we have President Trump. A pompous Gas Bag who wasn't supposed to get close to the nomination for President. A President who was an outsider to his own party before he won the nomination and who was actively opposed from the beginning by the old boy network. A President who the media has vilified and portrayed as a dangerous maniac who must be at least kept away from the nuclear button he so clearly is itching to push, and ideally must be dragged from the oval office before he destroys us all.

North Korea, until the Presidency of President Trump, was portrayed as a third world nation populated by starving masses of illiterate, backwards people driven to their knees by a ruthless dictator. There was little mention of their nuclear or missile programs, although development of those programs has been ongoing since the 80's. North Korea claimed that their nuclear program was only for peaceful intent, not military purpose, and we were sold that line by the media. Now, however, the North Korea nuclear program is portrayed as solely for the development of nuclear weapons by the media, even though clearly North Korea has never changed it's program. What changed is the media spin.

Russia went from a business partner to an opponent bent on destroying our democratic process in less than 9 years. No matter that the leadership of Russia has not changed in any material way during that time. Russia's meddling in our election is not new; they and we have practiced election meddling since at least WWII. The only thing that has has changed is the media narrative.

Isn't it at least time we acknowledge that we are being manipulated by our "Free and independent press"?

Consider this, President Trump is merely doing what candidate Trump said he would do. Why all the phony crying? What else did you expect him to do? Sure it is a shock to see a candidate fulfil his campaign promises, however this is Donald Trump, he always does what he said he would do.

Candidate Trump promised his supporters that he would somehow force Mexico to pay for the expensive wall he proposed to build along the border we share with that country.

He has failed to do so, there is no reason to believe that he will succeed, and there never was any reason to believe he would succeed.

Now President Trump has threatened to shut down the government unless U.S. tax payers are forced to pay for his wall.

Candidate Trump also said he could pay off the national debt in eight years. I will get back to you on that one in 2020.
