Court memo outlines how Oath Keepers allegedly plotted to terrify lawmakers

    Stewart Rhodes (YouTube)

On Friday, Rolling Stone reported that federal prosecutors have revealed more details about Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes' alleged insurrection plot in a court filing asking for him to be detained pending trial.

"The filing offers choice new details, including a text Rhodes allegedly sent a co-conspirator on Christmas Day 2020, discussing their plan to intimidate Congress on Trump’s behalf during the proceedings on Jan. 6: 'The only chance we/he has is if we scare the sh*t out of them,' Rhodes wrote, 'and convince them it will be torches and pitchforks time if they don’t do the right thing,'" reported Tim Dickinson. "The new memo offers an overview of the indictment against Rhodes, describing how Rhodes riled up followers to join him in Washington, D.C., for the events of Jan. 6, for which he personally purchased thousands of dollars of firearms that were kept across the river with a 'Quick Reaction Force' in Virginia."

The Oath Keepers are a far-right paramilitary group, consisting primarily of current and former military and law enforcement professionals who have sworn to defy laws and orders conflicting with their extremist view of the Constitution.

READ MORE: 'Annoyed' Ivanka Trump is 'barely mentioned' at Mar-a-Lago as investigators close in

"The memo also quotes Rhodes’ texts to an alleged co-conspirator showing awareness that the government likely had access to their communications, including this message to Edward Vallejo, who allegedly oversaw the Oath Keepers’ stockpile of weapons: 'Ed, keep in mind that is NOT a secure chat, Contains at least one turn-coat snitch,” Rhodes wrote. “Keep that in mind. Please confirm you got this,'" continued the report.

Rhodes and 10 other Oath Keepers, including Vallejo, face charges of seditious conspiracy, the first people involved in the January 6 attack to be prosecuted in this way. Vallejo has already been denied pretrial release in a decision earlier this week, with a judge warning that he "threatened the very fabric of democracy."

Proud Boys return to DC with new target

    Jon Skolnik, Salon
    January 24, 2022

Members of the Proud Boys march in Manhattan against vaccine mandates in New York City (AFP)

For a second cold January day in as many years, thousands of demonstrators, including throngs of far-right Proud Boys, descended upon Washington, D.C. This time, the right-wing marchers came to protest vaccine mandates, even as America struggles to ward off the third wave of COVID-19.

While the omicron variant continues to rage, about 25,000 protesters gathered Sunday on the National Mall, chanting anti-vaccine slogans, donning pro-Trump memorabilia, and holding up signs that called for violence, according to The Washington Post. Many of their signs displayed messages like "Vaccines are mass kill bio weapons" and "Trump won," echoing Donald Trump's baseless claim of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. Nearby, a bus – plastered with pictures Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky, White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci and Microsoft founder Bill Gates – was parked on the side of the road, with the word "WANTED" above the three figures' heads.

Other demonstrators compared vaccine mandates to Nazi Germany, an increasingly popular trend among conservatives, holding up signs with messages like "I am not a lab rat" and "Stop the vaccine Holocaust."

During a speech held at the rally, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a veteran anti-vaxxer, claimed that vaccine mandates are worse than the policies of Nazi Germany, saying: "Even in Hitler's Germany, you could hide in the attic like Anne Frank did."

Other speakers included physician Robert Malone, a prominent purveyor of vaccine misinformation; TV producer Del Bigtree, the CEO of the anti-vaccination group Informed Consent Action Network; and members of public employee associations like Medical Freedom and the D.C. Firefighters Bodily Autonomy Affirmation Group.

Matt Tune, a 48-year-old organizer of the rally, told the Post that he wanted to "change the current narrative…which is basically saying that we're a bunch of weirdos and freaks who don't care about humanity. And that's not true at all."

"The goal is to show a unified front of bringing people together — vaccinated, unvaccinated, Democrats, Republicans, all together in solidarity," Tune added.

The rally also saw attendance from members of the Proud Boys, a far-right neo-fascist group known for promoting and engaging in violence. Members of the group briefly engaged in a verbal back-and-forth with counter-protesters near the Reflecting Pool, though police reported no arrests or incidents of violence throughout the course of the event.

The rally comes amid the nation's ongoing battle to contain COVID-19. According to The New York Times, approximately 63% of Americans are fully vaccinated – a number that continues to climb slowly despite the rapid onset of the omicron variant in early December. Meanwhile, roughly one in five Americans are completely unvaccinated. Experts have repeatedly advised Americans to get vaccinated not only to protect themselves but to lessen the risk of mutation.

These Trump fans made threats — so VICE called them and they cited OAN and Newsmax as their inspiration

    Sarah K. Burris
    January 25, 2022

In 2020, HBO host John Oliver did a takedown of the conservative channel OAN, calling it a source of radicalization for conservatives.

"I know it is easy to dismiss OAN as just a stupid, little-watched borderline self-parody," Oliver said at the time. "The problem is, if we're learning one thing right now, it's that toxic things that start small can get big fast, and it's dangerous to ignore them. And right now, [Donald Trump] is putting a lot of energy into boosting OAN's profile right now."

After the election, supporters of Trump's went after election officials with violent threats, doxxed them, exposing their personal contact information online and in some cases followed their cars.

Speaking to officials, VICE News followed up on the threats and attacks by calling those making them for an interview.

WATCH: 'As corrupt as it comes': Damning evidence puts Trump at risk in quickly moving criminal investigation

Richard Barron, the elections director of Fulton County, began getting threatening phone calls not long after a Dec 5th rally in Valdosta, Georgia which aired an OAN "report" saying his name.

VICE called Derrick Risner after he made a call on Dec. 31, 2020, saying, "Either you're blind or you’re crooked as f*ck. So figure it out buddy cause which side you gonna be on when the shooting starts brother?"

Risner explained that he got Barron’s number while watching a segment on OANN. "I was watching One American News and they put his phone number on there and they said, ‘Give the man a call.'"

“I stand what I stand behind what I said," he continued. "Ultimately, you know, if you can sit right now in this country today and say that all of that was legal…I don't know. I watch One American News. It's on in the background as we speak. I was never really a Trump supporter. But ultimately, they've turned me into one."

When asked if he would appear on camera, Risner said "no" because it could jeopardize his personal safety.

John Johnson, his real name, lives in Tennessee and has left messages with threats in the past.

He too called Barron, saying, "We’re watching, Rick."

    Johnson has no regrets either.

"I think I'm like every American that watched elections get decided the night of, and then I watched Georgia and a few other key swing states turn into a month-long, dragged out, hiding of information," he said. "When you're a public servant, you've got to be ready to stand up to the scrutiny of people, whether you're a constituent or not."

Accused Whitmer kidnap plotters lose bid to dismiss criminal case

    Gov. Whitmer

DETROIT — A federal judge Tuesday refused to dismiss the indictment against five members of an alleged plot to kidnap and kill Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, calling defense claims of entrapment and government overreaching a "heavy burden to carry." U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker filed his order less than two months before the five men are scheduled to stand trial on kidnapping conspiracy and weapons of mass destruction charges that could send them to federal prison for up to life. Accused ringleader Adam Fox, 38, of Potterville and four others needed to show that evidence demonstrates FBI agents a...

Oath Keeper to remain jailed after wife says he installed ‘elaborate escape tunnels in backyard’

    John Wright

    Stewart Rhodes (YouTube)
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes will remain behind bars pending trial on charges including seditious conspiracy in connection with the Capitol insurrection.

A federal magistrate judge in Texas on Thursday issued a 17-page order denying Rhodes's request to be released from jail to live with a third-party custodian while awaiting trial.

"The evidence shows Defendant orchestrated a large-scale attack on the federal government with the purpose of intimidating, by violence, federal officials and disrupting official governmental proceedings incident to the transfer of power in the Executive Branch following a national election," Judge Kimberly C. Priest Johnson wrote. "Defendant’s authoritative role in the conspiracy, access to substantial weaponry, and ability to finance any future insurrection, combined with his continued advocacy for violence against the federal government, gives rise to a credible threat that Defendant's release might endanger others by fostering the planning and execution of additional violent events."

The judge also cited testimony from Rhodes' estranged wife, Tasha Adams, who said she fears for the safety of herself and their six children if he is released. Adams said Rhodes would often brandish a firearm in their home "to control her behavior." She also accused him of abusing their children under the guise of "martial arts practice," including choking their daughter.

"Ms. Adams also testified to Defendant's fear of being 'picked up by the feds,'" the judge wrote. "According to Ms. Adams, during the time they were married, Defendant installed elaborate escape tunnels in the couple's backyard, hid unregistered cars in the woods, and purchased hundreds of dollars of razor wire, which Defendant intended to install around the perimeter of the property, concealed from view, 'in case the feds ever came to his door.'"

Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale Law graduate who is one of 11 members of the Oath Keepers charged with seditious conspiracy, pleaded not guilty earlier this week. He has been detained since his Jan. 13 arrest by the FBI.

Oath Keeper leader's estranged wife releases photographic evidence of his 'elaborate escape tunnels'

    John Wright
    January 26, 2022

Tasha Adams, the estranged wife of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, is providing photographic evidence of the "elaborate escape tunnels" he allegedly constructed in their backyard.

On Wednesday, a federal magistrate judge cited Adams' testimony about the escape tunnels in an order denying Rhodes bond on seditious conspiracy and other charges related to the Capitol insurrection.

A short time later, Adams posted photos corroborating her testimony.

"Folks if you ever feel tempted to rent a backhoe and dig escape tunnels in the backyard of your rental house, keep in mind it may back to haunt you if you later attempt to overthrow the US government," Adams wrote.

RELATED: Oath Keeper to remain jailed after wife says he installed ‘elaborate escape tunnels in backyard’

"This isn't even the tunnel system I was talking about," Adams added, clarifying that the photos actually showed a "training hole" that was "less elaborate."

"I might have pics of the real thing somewhere, my daughters used them as a playhouse," she wrote.

Another Twitter user asked Adams about her statement that it was a "rental house," inquiring whether the landlord was also a member of the Oath Keepers.

"(I)f not bet they're pissed," the person wrote.

"Yes. He thought it wasn't a bad idea," Adams responded, referring to the landlord.

In a related twist, Rhodes reportedly claimed in court that at the time of his arrest by the FBI on Jan. 13, he was living with his girlfriend, Kellye SoRelle, who is now serving as acting director of the Oath Keepers.

However, contacted by BuzzFeed News' Ken Bensinger, SoRelle reportedly denied the two are in a relationship.

"She (SoRelle) conjectures that he may have told the court that in a bid to get released to her house," Bensinger reported.

"I think Stewart just wanted to have a place to stay," SoRelle reportedly told Bensinger.

On Thursday, KPNX's Brahm Resnik reported that a notorious far-right anti-mask activist has been banned from the Arizona House of Representatives complex after an incident in which he followed and harassed lawmakers and tourists.

During the incident, Ethan Schmidt, who was accompanied by Arizona State College Republicans United founder Rick Thomas, made the Nazi salute at people wearing masks, and demanded to know why state Rep. Reginald Bolding, who is Black, was wearing a "slave muzzle".

'Credible threats' connected to Mike Flynn rally shut down National Butterfly Center

The National Butterfly Center is closing for the weekend as far-right conservatives gather nearby for a rally.

In a message shared on social media, the center said the closure was "due to credible threats we have received from a former state official, regarding activities planned by the We Stand America event, taking place in McAllen, TX, this weekend. This MAGA, mid-term election rally, hosted by Trump's former National Security Advisor and pardoned-criminal, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, is the national, kick-off event for what they are calling their 'Take Action Tour.'"

Speakers include Thomas Homan, Trump's acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Mark Morgan, Trump's acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection. The spokesperson for the John Birch Society, Heather Hobbs is also expected to speak.

"We made the difficult decision to close the center when [executive director Marianna Treviño Wright] was advised by the former state official (whose daughter is the Hidalgo County GOP chairperson) that she should be armed at all times or out of town this weekend, because the We Stand America events include a 'Trump Train'-style, 'caravan to the border.' He said the National Butterfly Center would likely be a stop on this "take action tour," and she and the center are targets," the center said.

READ: Thanks to Donald Trump, the Wisconsin GOP is destroying itself from the inside

The Hidalgo GOP is chaired by Adrienne Peña Garza. Her father, former Republican state Rep. Aaron Peña, is currently running for justice on the 13th Court of Appeals.

"This 3-day, fundraising event organized by Trump operatives is just too similar to the 3-day Wall-o-thon organized by Bannon, Kolfage and Tommy Fisher, in celebration of their first, private border wall project (prior to their Mission project,) that likely incited the Wal-mart Massacre in El Paso," the National Butterfly Center wrote. "We simply cannot risk the safety and lives of our staff and visitors during this dangerous time."

The center said it would pay their staff what they would have made working "because this disruption to our operations caused by the disparagement of our organization should not result in their suffering the loss of wages that feed their families and pay their bills."

‘I hope your children get molested!’ Trump supporter accused of threatening election workers on Jan. 7

    John Wright
    January 27, 2022

    (Screenshot via YouTube.com)

An apparent supporter of former president Donald Trump is facing federal charges after allegedly making multiple threatening phone calls to elections officials in the Nevada Secretary of State's Office on Jan. 7, 2021 — one day after the Capitol insurrection.

Gjergi Luke Juncaj, 50, of Las Vegas was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday and charged with four counts of making threatening phone calls, each punishable by up to two years in prison, according to the Department of Justice.

Ostensibly inspired by Trump's false claims of widespread fraud in the November 2020 election, Juncaj first called the Secretary of State's Office at 8:07 a.m. on Jan. 7 and was transferred to the elections division, according to a criminal indictment.

“I want to thank you for such a great job you all did on stealing the election,” Juncaj allegedly told an employee. “I hope you all go to jail for treason. I hope your children get molested. You are all going to f*cking die.”

Twelve minutes later, Juncaj called again and was transferred to the same employee. "You are all going to die," he repeated in a raised voice.

Five minutes after that, Juncaj called again and said: "You guys really f*cked this election up," adding that election officials were "all going to die."

"This is what you're going to f*cking get from now on," Juncaj said on a fourth call that morning. "You are all going to f*cking die and it is what you deserve."

After the employee reported the threats to the Nevada Capitol Police, an officer called Juncaj's number. Juncaj allegedly raised his voice and accused the officer of harassing him.

The case against Juncaj was brought by the DOJ's Election Threats Task Force, which was formed last June "to address threats of violence against election workers, and to ensure that all election workers — whether elected, appointed or volunteer — are able to do their jobs free from threats and intimidation."

In December, Reuters documented more than 850 threatening and hostile messages aimed at election officials and staff related to the 2020 election, in 30 jurisdictions in 16 states.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) appears on CNN (Screen cap).
A federal judge has sentenced a California man to jail for sending dozens of racist death threats to anti-Trump politicians.

In a rare move, U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg rejected the Department of Justice's recommendation of probation, and sentenced 71-year-old Michael Anthony Gallagher to four months behind bars.

Gallagher "spent some four years sending dozens of racist death threats on personalized, handmade postcards," the Mercury News reported Friday.

He pleaded guilty in August to mailing a threatening postcard, signed "KKK," to California Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who is Black.

Gallagher's threat to Waters was among at least 75 he sent to politicians across the country who were critical of former president Donald Trump.

“We’re going to hang your head off the Washington Monument, you piece of Communist (expletive)," Gallagher once wrote to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He also threatened to shoot Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Nevertheless, Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Tartakovsky recommended a term of one year of probation.

“This is based on a number of factors, beginning with Mr. Gallagher’s prompt admission of guilt and genuine contrition, which includes his statement to an agent after the search of his house that he had been ‘scared straight,’" Tartakovsky wrote. “Other factors include his age, his lack of a prior record, the absence of evidence that he had any intent actually to carry out any of his threats, his insignificant likelihood of re-offending, and the sufficiency of the conviction itself to provide general and specific deterrence.”

In an apology letter, Gallagher wrote: “Throughout the last presidency, I was impacted by the political polarization of our country. That’s when I started on the reproachable path of mailing threatening postcards, for which I am painfully sorry and ashamed. I think I believed I was sending a message about my political views. But now I realize that these views and my conduct were terribly misguided and shameful.”

Gallagher is scheduled to report to jail in March after being sentenced in December. A transcript from his sentencing hearing wasn't available, the newspaper reported.

Kansas Man on ‘Mission From God’ Charged With Threatening Biden’s Life

A Kansas man claiming he had been told by God to travel to Washington, D.C., to “lop off the head of the serpent in the heart of the nation” has been charged with threatening to assassinate President Joe Biden via a “fatal head wound,” according to a criminal complaint first obtained by The Daily Beast. On Jan. 26, construction contractor Scott Merryman drove from Independence, Kansas, to Hagerstown, Maryland, where he was intercepted by the Secret Service in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel, the complaint states. There, he told agents he “had to deliver a message to President Biden, and advise him that people were fed up with the divisiveness in the country and to turn back to God (or go to hell),” the filing explains. “Merryman made numerous comments about God, being guided by God, cloaked in the ‘blood of the lamb,’ and armored by God.” Agents found a loaded magazine for a .45 on him and a spotting scope in his backpack, which Merryman said was for “recon,” according to the feds.

Lucifer just fucked up… He sent his agents of darkness to come try and trip me up, they searched all my belongings and...

“I’m coming for his bitch ass sleepy Joe,” Merryman, who does not have a lawyer listed in court records, allegedly told one of the agents. “I’m talking about President Biden and you can quote me.”

As many experts and especially national security experts have been pointing out Trump's insurrection and attempted coup did not end on January 6th. They are continuing right now. Which is why once again we see Trump trying to call on his domestic terrorists to protect him. Because he is a dictator and no laws should apply to him.

Trump's demand for 'massive protests' if he's prosecuted is 'inviting mob action': conservative

Former President Donald Trump dedicated considerable time attacking the prosecutors looking at possible criminal behavior.

In a rant about the New York case, Trump said that there was a link between those probing him there and Hillary Clinton, who was previously the Democratic Senator for the state.

He then called the prosecutors "racist" and said claimed that if they do something that is illegal then he wants to see his supporters conduct massive protests in "D.C., New York and Atlanta."

It was a thread in the rambling speech that prompted many to think that Trump was clearly nervous about the cases.

"He seems to be inviting mob action against officers of the law if he turns out to be at legal risk. Pretty dangerous," said Bill Kristol.

Trump seems very worried about criminal prosecution, actually mentioning DC and Atlanta (aspects of the attempted election fraud, I assume) and NY (Trump Org). He seems to be inviting mob action against officers of the law if he turns out to be at legal risk. Pretty dangerous.

IMPORTANT: Watch carefully. He reads this entire rant directly off the teleprompter. He fully intended to threaten unrest if he is criminally charged. And others worked with him to deliver that message.
