It really hurts to see the chief executive of our country portrayed as an intellectual lightweight. What does this say of our electorate, that we are a group of yahoos?

What does it do to further divide our country? BTW, the reason Obama won was explained in a crystal clear way a few minutes ago on CNN. New voters and black voters overwhelmingly voted for Obama. The white voters voted democrat a few small percentage points than before, but still were over 65% republican.

So unless there are a few million more young, black intellectuals than we knew about, I'd say he won because of organizers like you.

tenguy, I agree with your earlier point about eloquence not equating to intelligence, but this comment of yours makes me think that you believe that it would be better if the country is run by un-intelligent, un-elite people as opposed to intelligent, elite people. Is that what you meant to imply?

Sometimes the truth hurts, and yes, those that voted for Bush are a group of yahoos. I could possibly see a thinking, rational person maybe voting for Bush on the first term, but it was already quite clear that he was a failure as a business man and not the brightest bulb, eloquence or not, so I still don't really get it. But for his 2nd term? By then it was quite plainly obvious how damaging he was for the country, how completely inept he was, and how utterly corrupt his administration was. IMHO there is no way an even semi-rational, intelligent person could have voted for him, but people kept believing the dogmatic lie that the Republican party was for small government and there to help the little guy and voted him in again. Yahoos, every single one of them. And as much of a "landslide" Obama achieved in the election, if you look at the raw numbers there are still a huge number of yahoos in this country. With the random and repeated flip-flopping, with the viscous, negative attacks (which ironically enough, McCain's camp was usually found to be actually guilty of the accusations or drastically more guilty of than Obama), the picking of a running mate that displayed utter contempt and disdain for the American populace and the position sought, the complete inability to engage on the issues in a thoughtful, intelligent manner, etc., there is absolutely no way even a barely rational, barely high-school educated, much less a decent human being should have ever voted for McCain. The only way would be for those people to be completely ignorant of facts and not willing to search out the real truth (OMG, Obama is a Muslim/Terrorist/Baby Killer!) completely devoted to the concept of voting for an ideology instead of for a person, or so filled with hatred and divisiveness that they gravitated to the candidate that would equal it. Basically, yahoos. So again, I'm sorry that it hurts, but the truth does hurt and that is the truth.

Actually looking at the National exit polls we find that:

*) Only 55% of white voters voted for McCain, not 65%. And of the 17,836 respondents, only 13% were black. So that means that Obama had 5752 white voters and only 2203 black voters out of the respondents.
*) Wow, look at that! Of the people that make over $200,000, the very ones that would be "hurt" by higher, eviler, socialist taxes, 52% of them voted for Obama. I guess they finally realized how utterly empty and useless the Republican way of doing government actually is.
*) Make sure you take a close look at the breakdown for education. It certainly appears that the more intelligent ones chose Obama.
*) Interestingly, 20% of people who identify as conservative voted for Obama.

There's many other nuggets of information in there, but it's clear to see that the majority of the people realized they were being screwed by the lies of the Republicans and conservatives and were intelligent enough to vote for Obama.

I am still reading this poll right now as I think there is some really good info here, but one thing that struck me as absolutely shocking is that 44% of the people who believe Obama is too conservative voted for McCain. I am trying to wrap my head around that one.
