BETA readers read a manuscript from a reader's point of view, tell the author what they like or don't like about a story. Read no more than you would as a casual reader. You are not required to read beyond your comfort level. If you lose interest in the story, tell the author why. The same holds true for the positive, if you like the story and would like to read more - also tell the author and what about the book makes you want to read more.

Got a yuletide question for everyone - do you find you get more writing done in winter, or in summer? Or does it not matter for you? I know for me I get really down around winter so I write more sad erotica then, but I write more weird or experimental stuff in summer when I'm happier.

 

Well Nathan I have to ask the question: as a reader of what because as a straight story it's really good but as a sex story it's as exciting as mashed potato.

 

Really doesn't matter the season. I put forth an effort to write daily as I can't get any better at my craft/hobby unless I practice. Now, what I write about changes with my moods, just as I listen to different types of music because of my moods.

 

Mmmmm......mashed potatoes. With or without gravy? Butter, sour cream, chicken stock? As a filling side to any meal or something special for the holidays? Used as a weapon for a food fight with siblings?...and my list of stupid questions will stop there, but I could go on and on.......

 

I am trying to write a book a year for the next few years and I set myself to start the book between Christmas and new year. I find I'm more excited to start a book then, rather than the summer when I want to be outdoors and sometimes miss a few writing days.

I didn't like writing that Pablo, without gravy by the way, because Nathan is a really nice guy and obviously keen on his writing. It's arms length stuff though and sex stories have to draw you in. Well you have a read and see what you think, he's made the effort and deserves some feed back.

 

Good for you LolaBella90. I remember the nervous wait for my first story on this site then the agony of wondering what anyone thought.

I hope it goes well for you and if it's not as good as you hoped then learn from it for your next story.

 

I do read.....allot! As a child I hated reading. I was slow at it and often had to reread pages because I got lost easily. My stupid comment about mashed potatoes had to do with me being on my painkillers one evening trying to take the edge off of my lower back pain/leg numbness. I was in a stupid mood, didn't intend any disrespect to either you or Nathan, just me being stupid (thinking I'm more funny than I actually am). I do understand the arm's length comment. I read different genre's trying to learn different ways to explain things....I don't like reading bestiality nor rape stories, but I do looking to learn more about 'how' to write something, specifically something that I have never experienced and have no personal knowledge.

 

It started as a "dirty story" and evolved into something else. It is an epic tale of survival - not just a fuck and suck story - what can I say? It is what it is.

 

Nathan, There is nothing at all wrong with Dirty Stories; they are fiendishly hard to write. A lot of people can write a hot little scene but a scene is not a story.

So if this is an epic story why do they go to the nudist commune? I use the term Arms Length before. Your story would be more compelling if you could let events, people get to him. Have them matter because they look like the Teflon Couple to me -Jack Reacher rides again.

Anyway just my thoughts.

To answer your question, I find it easier to write in the winter. Not just erotica, but all kinds of writing. It's somehow soothing; I can just imagine myself sitting at my desk, typing away while sipping hot tea and looking out the window at the fresh snowfall. It's picturesque, and just thinking about it puts me in the mood to write. I guess it's how I always imagined being a writer would be when I was younger, so actually putting myself in that scenario is nice, and I find writing more enjoyable.

The kind of story you're writing is definitely influenced by the season though. I've been writing an outline and planning a story involving the great game of baseball, and I intend to write and post that sometime next spring or summer. It's hard to get in the head space to write about summer when it's 30 degrees outside though.

 

With the exception of a couple of grammatical and context errors (which we all make), it was a very hot story. It provided excellent detail. Keep it up.

 

Hi guys, I posted two stories one week ago and they are still stuck on Edit mode.
I know it's Xmas and all, but since the stories aren't moderated (I think), I am wondering why it's taking so long?
Am I missing something?
