My 3 year old nephew ok a few months back, he tied up a cat, tight & my sister found out before anything bad happened... Called my mom, I could hear, anyway he seemed unemotional & I could have swore I heard him say he knew he was choking then a few secs later he said the opposite... Then months later he threw a book at his sister, hitting the end of her nose, they weren't even fighting... Then last sunday my mom was over at my sisters house & he punched her in the face (she says cause he wanted to get something back) ya, like that is a excuse... He manages to just happen to bump his sister often also... I said something about the cat thing & my mom gets mad at me, I know kids do stuff sometimes, but tieing a cat up tight & punching someone in the face for no apparent reason, my dad use to kill rats we heard them screaming in pain & I nor my sis like to hurt people/animals... If I say anything, I am the one that they get mad at though...

 

There is a world of difference between killing rats, which are considered vermin, and killing a cat, which is a companion animal, and holds the status of a family member. A three year old has reached the age of socialization. This is when a child starts to learn the difference between reality and the world of make believe. It is the adults responsibility to teach the difference and the concept of consequences for actions. It is a very long process. True sociopaths show their earliest tendencies by the way they treat animals, at an early age. I am not saying your nephew is a future serial killer, but this is the age when children learn the rules of living with other people.

 

I don't see that there is. putting an animal out of obvious misery is one thing. But killing or maiming animals for fun shows a total lack of respect for living creatures. I'd be keeping an eye on him for sure.

 

We have to hope he has responsible parents. If not the poor boy will have a tough life.

There was a neighborhood kid when I was young that killed birds, turtles, frogs, any living thing he could catch. His parents even had to get rid of their dog as he terrorized it also. Later I heard he graduated to killing humans when he shot his estranged wife through her bedroom window. Where poor parenting and other external factors may affect character traits, I believe physiology of the brain makes it more probable in some people that violent behavior rises above normal behavior. They have noted that deep in the limbic system there is a fold in the brain, the more prominent the fold the more likely to have violent/angry outbursts. Studies have also suggested that infants in the first year of life that are neglected when it comes to basic needs are prone to become detached form those around them and are more prone to develop behavioral problems.

I will say it. Your nephew is a future serial killer. A child psychologist needs to evaluate him ASAP. Waiting until he is in nursery school and starts doing to classmates what he has already done to his sister, exposes open the family to serious injury lawsuits and the parents possibly to criminal liability, especially if they knew (or should have known) that their son was a danger to others.

This is exactly what is missing in today's society, teaching respect is the parents role, not the fucking system.

That might work for children who are not sociopaths. In addition, the OP seemed to suggest that the parents are not in a hurry to discipline their son. Furthermore, the OP mentions his sister (his nephew's mother) but not his brother-in-law. I now wonder if there is a father in the picture. It is hard for a child to learn to respect his parents if the parents are not pulling their own weight in the matter.

Yes, his dad is there, if he wasn't would that really be a valid excuse, I don't think so... It seems like something is up, kids do things, but hurting people.animals for no reason, nope... Anyway I wish I could talk to my mom about it, but that dies no good... He seems to flip a switch (mood wise) almost instantly also, If I can find a article about what to look out for just to share, so I could share it, I would like that... I wish they would talk to someone... It is not like he is around violence really... He deos seem to get away with stuff while his parents/grandparents are there... Kids are going to test the waters, kids are smarter than we give them credit for, any child will do what the child knows the child can get away with, your 3 year old nephew knows that there are no boundaries yet.
