I've told you people a million times. You get what you give with me. If you want to have a civilized discussion where we can end up agreeing to disagree while respecting the other person's opinion, then I'll do that. If you want to try to prove me wrong, then I'll respond in kind. If you want to throw some shit around, then I'll do the same right back to you. Just because you don't like that I'm a more than worthy, and most of the time unbeatable, opponent doesn't mean that it's not true.

I also stopped responding to other people's crap the second you started being civil yesterday, in case you didn't notice. If there's somebody who is actually capable of and willing to have a mature discussion, I talk to that person and ignore the rest.

I'm with Bigbird on this - I really don't see why Shake made the thread. Couple that with the fact that people continued to bait you when you were engaging in civil discussion - forgetting entirely the question of whether you were correct or not, because it's the delivery I'm talking about - and I just think it's sad.

You're clearly not stupid. I suspect the only thing you have detracting from you is youth - and, I am free to admit, so do I. Looking back on some of the things I posted even a year ago, I wonder what on Earth I was thinking, and resolved to attempt to make my delivery in discussions less abusive, less confrontational, less sensationalist, and to ask more questions and deliver fewer answers. How else am I going to hear what people have to say, unless I turn the volume of my rhetoric down?

The content of what you post is marred by two things: your delivery, and the legacy you have created. The only way you will ever convince your detractors to take anything you say seriously is if you engage only in civil discussion, and ignore others to the point of not even acknowledging their existence. Do not try to correct their misconceptions as you see them; save yourself for the person or persons with whom you are having discourse with.

The moment you return an insult, you have lost both the argument and your credibility.

What am I doing? Oh sitting at a computer reading posts, responding to some kid who assumes he knows how to act like an adult at the same time trying to belittle me over the interwebz..at the meantime procrastinating doing some home repairs.

Don't mistake my enjoying playing the game of seeing what happens when I respond to certain people's bullshit for being baited. I'm a cold, calculated person. I don't do anything that I haven't decided of my own free will to do, after I've examined it from every angle and every possible outcome/consequence.

Also, don't mistake bluntness for immaturity or youth. Like I said, I respond in kind to people both on here and in real life. I will admit, up until about the summer of 2008, I was definitely right there with you as far as not having grown out of certain things from my youth, but I haven't been like that since.

To be honest, I've always had the same "delivery" and always will. I will always come across the same way to certain people. The thing is though, until somebody forces things to go deeper than they need to be, I get along with everybody.

Also, I could give a fuck about my detractors or really anything else on here. I'm not in an argument with them and I don't care about my credibility in their eyes. Hell, I don't care about my credibility period because the fact is that truth is truth no matter what, and the people who actually matter in life know that.

Honestly, I think about this a lot with respect to what I've posted as well... I know what you mean and objectivity is definitely something to strive for.

Let's be honest here, this thread was not started as a discussion. It didn't become a discussion at all until x_orion started being civil with me, and I responded in kind and ignored everybody else. While waiting for him to respond this morning, I decided to respond to what some people had said after I and x_orion had left the thread for the night, not together obviously

If you want to have an actual discussion with me then simply start one. Don't fault me for responding amusedly to people trying so hard to talk shit on me when there was nobody around to discuss. It's not like this was a discussion thread. So, if you'd like to talk with me, then drop whatever opinions you may have of me and forget about whatever it is that might have happened in the past because it's not relevant. If you can't start every discussion off with everybody having a clean slate, then there's really no point is there?
