Congressman Adam Schiff (D-California) appeared on MSNBC's Tuesday edition of The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell and reflected upon Senator Lindsey Graham's (R-South Carolina) radioactive prediction that there would be "riots in the streets" if former President Donald Trump is criminally indicted.

"I think with Lindsey Graham you see some signs of conscience flare up from time to time that are quickly extinguished," Schiff quipped to host Lawrence O'Donnell.

Schiff, who chairs the powerful House Intelligence Committee and serves on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, also condemned right-wing lawmakers who have tethered themselves to Trump's brand of grievance politics.

"Others," such as Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), Schiff continued, fall into his "category" of "kind of negative, bile-filled performance artists."

Schiff noted that "happily at the moment those are small in number in Congress." But he stressed that "there are a lot more where she came from who are running, who have won Republican primaries in very red districts, and who appeared to be poised to join the Congress."

Schiff then lamented to O'Donnell that "you know, it's just a staggering turn of events in the country but also when you take the long view and think about some of the giants who once served in the Congress – people of principle like John Lewis and so many others – and now you see sort of the crackpot caucus growing within the GOP conference. What a terrible turn of events it is for the country."

A long-shot Republican candidate for Colorado state house refuses to apologize for referring to two Black opponents as "chimps."

After the American Federation of Teachers endorsed her and two other statehouse candidates, Democratic state Rep. Meg Froelich thanked the organization on Twitter and highlighted her fellow endorsees, state Sen. Julie Gonzales, House District 6 candidate Elisabeth Epps and state Rep. Jennifer Bacon, reported KDVR-TV.

“Wow! I get to be with these champs? Made my day!" Froelich tweeted. "Thanks @coloradoaft.”

But her opponent, Republican candidate Marla Fernandez, responded with a racist remark.

Epps and Bacon are each Black women, and Fernandez insisted she had meant something else but boasted about the attention.

“I was trying to get Meg and the NEA and I meant to put chump," Fernandez said, incorrectly identifying the National Education Association as the endorsing organization.

I mean, I was just trying to address the fact that she got sponsored by the NEA, who is No. 1 next to nobody and funds the Democrats. I’m not going to apologize because I didn’t do anything wrong, and I’m not racist. It’s not true.”

A reporter asked Fernandez about the historical context of comparing Black people to apes or monkeys, but she rejected that notion and insisted she had only wanted her opponent to debate her online.

“I’m fricking Hispanic,” Fernandez said. “There is no historical with it. We are using different words nowadays and people are twisting things.”

Two-Thirds of Americans Believe MAGA is ‘Threatening America’s Democratic Foundations’: New Poll

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll published Wednesday evening found that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that former President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement is “threatening America’s democratic foundations.”

The two-day poll conducted Tuesday and Wednesday found 58 percent of respondents, including 25 percent of Republicans, are concerned by the MAGA movement’s impact on American democracy.


The poll was conducted days after President Joe Biden’s September 1st speech calling out what he sees as extremism in the MAGA base.

Biden’s remarks whipped up a firestorm of criticism on the right and were also maligned by mainstream media for the presence of U.S. Marines behind Biden while making a speech seen by many as political.

The poll found that 59 percent of respondents believe “Biden’s speech will further divide the country, though just about half of respondents said they didn’t watch or follow the speech at all,” noted the Reuters summary.



The Biden White House defended the speech. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declared the speech more focused on policy and argued, “Standing up for democracy is not political. Denouncing political violence is not political.”

“The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 60% of Republicans don’t think Trump’s MAGA movement represents the majority of the party,” noted the poll’s summary, adding:

Biden’s own approval ratings remain low, despite a string of recent legislative achievements. Just 39% percent of respondents said they approve of Biden’s job performance as president, a level not far above the lowest levels Trump had during his presidency.

The poll was conducted online among 1,003 U.S. adults, which included 411 Democrats and 397 Republicans. The poll had a 4 percent margin of error.

On Tuesday, VICE reported that QAnon adherents are rejoicing over former President Donald Trump's increasingly open embrace of their movement, symbols, and slogans.

"Trump shared a picture of himself wearing a Q lapel pin, overlaid with the QAnon phrases 'The Storm is Coming' and 'WWG1WGA,' on his Truth Social account on Monday evening. The post had been originally shared on Truth Social by an account called 'Patriots in Control,' before Trump re-shared it," reported David Gilbert. "'How much more obvious can it get?' one QAnon follower asked in the QAnon-focus Great Awakening forum."

In QAnon lore, "The Storm" will occur when Trump finally reveals that he has unraveled a global conspiracy of Satanic pedophiles and will announce mass arrests. QAnon adherents never explain why Trump never did any of this during the four years when he was president and apparently seemed more focused on rage-tweeting about "Morning Joe" segments.

"The QAnon movement has been in flux since Trump’s 2020 election defeat coupled with the lack of any communication from Q over the last 18 months. But Monday’s post by Trump has once again invigorated his most loyal base of supporters," Vice's report continued. "Telegram channels and message board threads lit up on Monday night with supporters who believed that once again, this was a sign that 'it’s happening' and that 'there's certainly no doubt now that Trump is openly endorsing Q.' 'Just in case it wasn’t abundantly CLEAR at this point, President Trump himself is making it UNDENIABLE that he is 100% aligning with the Q operation,' John Sabal, the organizer of QAnon-focused conferences, wrote on his Telegram channel which has over 60,000 subscribers."

This comes as QAnon beliefs continue to be linked to real-world violence. Last year, a QAnon supporter in California murdered his children with a spearfishing gun because he believed they had reptilian DNA. Another in Michigan "snapped" after Trump's loss and shot his family.

Trump has increasingly relied on his own Truth Social platform to spread his messaging, although the site, created through the use of a "blank check" special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, has continued to see struggles. Last week, a vote to take the company public for more financing failed.
