This is a very consistent pattern. Trump runs up massive bills to protect him at his rallies and resorts and then refuses to pay his bills.

Trump resort sticks Irish cops with a massive bill after they were forced to help guard the president there

Police in Ireland are getting stuck with a massive bill from one of President Donald Trump’s golf resorts after they were forced to help guard the president when he traveled there this past June.

The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold reports that the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg Ireland sent police in Ireland a bill for food and coffee that totaled more than $100,000 after “dozens” of Irish cops were ordered to go to resort to help with presidential security.

Included in the bill were a lunch that cost more than €5,000, “snack bags” that cost €1,750, and “additional tea and coffee due to inclement weather” that cost €875.

The bill demonstrates how the president and other members of his administration generate significant revenue for the president’s own businesses when they stay at them. Vice President Mike Pence last month similarly stayed at the Trump Doonbeg resort even though it was a three-hour drive away from the official meetings he was scheduled to attend in Dublin.

Trump’s Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross facing investigation over use of private email account

The National Archives and Records Administration has launched an investigation into Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s use of a private email account for government business, according to Politico.

The news outlet cited a public letter sent by the archives earlier this month to the Commerce Department’s chief information officer, saying “the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has become aware of a potential unauthorized disposition of U.S. Department of Commerce records.”

Lawrence Brewer, chief records officer of the U.S. government, asked in the letter for a response from the department within 30 days. He cited a broadly-negative profile of Ross published last month in the Washington Post, which noted the secretary “used personal email for official business.”

The watchdog group Democracy Forward obtained government-related emails from Ross’ private account through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, which were noted in the Post’s profile of Ross. (Ross has denied claims that he defied federal record-keeping laws in the newspaper article.)

Department of Justice lawyers said in a court filing Wednesday night that the Commerce Department should not be required to conduct a direct search of Ross’ personal email accounts, even though previous searches of Commerce Department accounts uncovered 280 email chains over a 16-month period which contained references to Ross’ private account. Many of the messages concerned Ross’s travel arrangements.

“On multiple occasions, the secretary . . . directed the initial email sender to use his official government email address on future communications regarding agency business,” Michael Cannon, an attorney for the Commerce Department, wrote in the filing.

Justice Department attorney Johnny Walker argued that a search of Ross’ private email account would not turn up any emails not already on Commerce’s system.

“Even if the secretary did occasionally use a personal email account in connection with agency business, those communications are documented in the files already produced,” Walker wrote, according to Politico. “At issue here is whether Commerce must access and search a high-level official’s personal email account for merely duplicative emails. It should not.”

Asked about the National Archive inquiry into Ross’s email practices, a spokesperson for the Commerce Department told the news outlet, “We look forward to engaging and cooperating with the National Archives and Records Administration on their investigation.”

Betsy DeVos held in contempt of court by federal judge for taking money from scam victims: report

The Trump administration suffered a major defeat in federal court after a cabinet secretary was caught violating a federal order.

“A federal judge today held Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in contempt of court and imposed a $100,000 fine for violating an order to stop collecting on the student loans owed by students of a defunct for-profit college,” Politico reported Thursday.

“The exceedingly rare judicial rebuke of a Cabinet secretary came after the Trump administration was forced to admit to the court earlier this year that it erroneously collected on the loans of some 16,000 Corinthian Colleges borrowers despite being ordered to stop doing so,” Politico noted.

The ruling was issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Sallie Kim.

They become disoriented and mentally confused frothing at the mouth and cannot for the most part remember where they've been or where they're going. They occupy most of their time wandering and foraging for something to impeach. It's an easy to diagnose disorder for which there in unfortunately no cure. Once having contracted the disorder and as it progresses they will start impeachment hearings on their friends, their families and even on themselves . I think.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway berated and threatened Washington Examiner reporter Caitlin Yilek for writing that she has been put in the middle of her husband’s regular public criticism of President Trump—Conway’s boss. In an audio recording of the conversation, Conway can be heard attacking Yilek over her report, which centered on Conway’s possible promotion to White House chief of staff. During the phone call, Conway describes herself as “a powerful woman,” and implies that Yilek relies on the men in her life due to the fact that the reporter referred the top Trump aide to Examiner editors (both of whom are male) to officially address her complaints. “You don’t have to rely upon the men in your life and pretend somehow by way of reporting that I rely on the men in my life, which clearly isn’t the case,” she said. Conway appears to then threaten to have the Trump administration personally investigate Yilek. “Listen, if you’re going to cover my personal life, then we’re welcome to do the same around here,” she said. “If it has nothing to do with my job, which it doesn’t, that’s obvious, then we’re either going to expect you to cover everybody’s personal life or we’re going to start covering them over here.”

‘For sale’: News that Trump selling DC hotel draws criticism, protest

We’ve long known that Donald Trump has put our democracy up for sale.”

On Friday night, advocacy group Tax March projected “For Sale” onto the façade of President Donald Trump’s emoluments-violating Washington, D.C. hotel to highlight the way the business is emblematic of corruption in the White House.

The sale reportedly comes partly in response to sustained criticism over the way the business makes money from foreign and domestic clients with interests in the White House.

“Simply put, we’ve long known that Donald Trump has put our democracy up for sale,” said Tax March campaign director Dana Bye. “Today, he just made it official. Now, if we could just see his tax returns we’d see how much he’s been selling it for.”

According to The Wall Street Journal:

The Trumps don’t actually own the hotel, which is the former Old Post Office, but lease it from the federal government. With extensions, the lease runs close to 100 years, and a new owner could control the property well into the next century.

The hotel rights could sell for $500 million, said the Journal.

Trump has endured criticism over the hotel since the beginning of his presidency. Democratic lawmakers have drawn attention to the fact that the hotel is a hotbed of activity for GOP operatives and foreign dignitaries, and Trump himself frequently dines at the property, located just down the street from the White House.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is investigating whether the president is violating the emoluments clause by keeping the hotel. Committee chairman Rep. Peter DeFazio (D., Ore.) said in a statement Friday that he had concerns about the potential sale.

“I’m skeptical that this latest development isn’t an attempt to make a massive profit that directly benefits the Trump family, so I will be following this marketing attempt closely,” DeFazio said.

Private security firm linked to Trump’s brother awarded $33 million government contract: report

On Saturday, the Washington Post reported that the U.S. Marshals Service awarded a $33 million contract to CertiPath to provide security in federal courthouses and cellblocks.

The contract with CertiPath, a company based in Reston, Virginia that specializes in digital security, has drawn a formal complaint from one of the other entities that bid on the contract, because Robert Trump, the president’s younger brother, holds a minority stake in the firm. The complaint, filed with the Justice Department inspector general, alleges that CertiPath failed to disclose “one of the President’s closest living relatives stood to benefit financially from the transaction.”

“The circumstances of this contract award, and what appear to be CertiPath’s efforts to obscure Mr. Robert Trump’s financial interest in the company even as it trades on the Trump name, present the appearance of preferential treatment for those who are close to the President,” the complaint continued.

Jeff Nigriny, CertiPath’s founder, denies any misconduct, saying that Robert Trump “is one investor in an entity which holds a minority interest in Certipath” and that “he is exclusively a passive investor, has no management role whatsoever, is not an officer or director, and his name has never been used or mentioned by Certipath in any solicitation for a government contract, whether state or federal.”

The controversy is yet another in a long string of allegations that President Donald Trump’s family has sought to profit from the president’s office, from foreign diplomats staying at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, to First Daughter Ivanka Trump steering inaugural fund money into Trump Organization contracts, to the Air Force refueling near a Trump resort in Scotland, to the president’s scrapped plan to hold next year’s G7 summit at the Trump National Doral golf resort in Miami.

Steven Mnuchin may have gone against IRS warnings to help a friend get a major tax break

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin may have used his position to help a billionaire friend earn a significant tax break and subsequent profits, despite the Internal Revenue Service warning against it, The New York Times reports.

The Treasury Department, reportedly at the personal instruction of Mnuchin, made an area of land in Nevada owned by financier Michael Milken, who was reportedly an inspiration for the character of Gordon Gekko in the film Wall Street, eligible for a federal tax break that it did not previously qualify for after alleged pressure from Milken's business partner and other landowners.

The IRS expressed its doubts about the decision, arguing in an internal memo obtained by the Times that "failure to apply the designation standards equally across the board will call into question the legitimacy of the process by which the designations were made." The memo also stated that the appearance of "arbitrary" Treasury standards like this one could open the "door for accusations that the determination process was influenced by political considerations or bias."

Spokespersons for both Mnuchin and Milken, who are reportedly longtime friends, said the two men did not discuss the matter and Mnuchin had no knowledge of Milken's investments in Nevada. Regardless, the report has already spurred criticism. Read more at The New York Times.

Trump’s DC hotel will triple the price for rooms during a planned Republican retreat: report

On Monday, Law and Crime reported that the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. plans to dramatically raise room rates on November 7, when a two day Republican Party retreat is scheduled to begin on the premises.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has determined that the hotel will be charging $1,345 for a “premier” room and $1,395 for a “deluxe” room — the two cheapest kinds of rooms at the hotel. That is roughly a 200 percent increase from their average price.

The Republican event, known as the “Save the Senate” retreat, will feature eight sitting GOP senators, as well as Trump himself.

Records reveal the staggering amount of money Trump-owned businesses have raked in by doing business with Trump’s campaign and Republicans

The words “conflict of interest” often come up in connection with President Donald Trump, who hasn’t been shy about encouraging the use of Trump properties for political events. And an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics shows just how profitable that encouragement has been for the president.

HuffPost’s Mary Papenfuss reports that according to the Center’s analysis of federal election spending records, Trump’s political campaigns and associated committees have spent roughly $16.8 million at his businesses since he launched his 2016 presidential campaign. The analysis was based on spending reports to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

In the 2020 election cycle alone, the Center for Responsive Politics notes, Republican campaigns and political action committees have spent $1.8 million at Trump properties. That $1.8 million, includes — among other things — $1.3 million spent by Trump’s campaign, $123,000 spent by the Republican National Committee (RNC) and $104,000 spent by the political action committee (PAC) Great America.

The Center for Responsive Politics also points out that 48 Republicans in Congress have spent money at Trump businesses through their campaigns and associated committees. That includes $12,000 spent by Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, $8000 spent by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and $14,000 spent by Indiana Rep. Greg Pence — who is the brother of Vice President Mike Pence.

The Trump Organization owns property all over the world, and in the U.S. — according to the Center for Responsive Politics — the U.S.-based Trump businesses that have profited the most from GOP spending include, among others, Mar-a-Lago (Trump’s South Florida resort), Trump’s Doral golf resort in South Florida and the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. Recently, Trump received widespread criticism for wanting to hold the 2020 G7 Summit at his Doral property. Judge Andrew Napolitano, legal analyst for Fox News asserted that having the G7 at the Doral resort would be a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.

The Center’s $16.8 million figure is larger than the figure reported earlier this year by ProPublica, which in April, reported that the political money spent at Trump businesses had reached $16.1 million.

‘Corrupt’ Lindsey Graham slammed after watchdog reveals he visits Trump properties far more than any lawmaker

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has been frequently mocked for transforming himself from a staunch Trump critic into one of his most devoted defenders — and a new report from ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington will only add more fuel to that fire.

According to new data compiled by CREW, Graham has made a total of 17 visits to Trump properties over the past two-plus years, which the organization notes “are 50% more than anyone else in Congress.”

Other lawmakers who have frequented Trump’s properties on a regular basis include Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who have visited Trump properties 11 times, and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), who has visited Trump properties nine times.

Graham’s devotion to enriching the president by going to his resorts drew swift ridicule from CREW’s Twitter followers — as well as from Democrat Jaime Harrison, who is running against Graham for the Senate next year.

DeVos admits latest nationwide education scores are so bad they’re ‘devastating’

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has just admitted that under her leadership nationwide education test scores have dropped so far they are “devastating.” Her plan: more of what she’s been doing for nearly three years.

DeVos was one of Trump’s first cabinet secretaries confirmed by the Senate. She has been Secretary of Education since February 7, 2017.

“Fourth- and eighth-grade average scores on the ‘Nation’s Report Card,‘ released today, declined since the 2017 assessment, except for an increase in mathematics for fourth graders,” Politico reports, in an article titled, “Test scores slump in ‘Nation’s Report Card.’”

How bad is it?

“Two out of three of our nation’s children aren’t proficient readers,” DeVos admits. “In fact, fourth grade reading declined in 17 states and eighth grade reading declined in 31. The gap between the highest and lowest performing students is widening, despite $1 trillion in Federal spending over 40 years designated specifically to help close it.”

That 40-year grasp is illogical. There are few teachers who have been teaching for 40 years.

“This must be America’s wake-up call,” the Secretary continues. “We cannot abide these poor results any longer. We can neither excuse them away nor simply throw more money at the problem.”

DeVos’ plan is to privatize as much of the education system and infrastructure as possible. Her “solution” to “devastating” education test scores is more vouchers, more charter schools, more federal, state, and local taxes being shoveled into the hands of her friends who run those programs.

She calls it “education freedom,” and claims it is “the only way to bring about the change our country desperately needs.”

But even Secretary DeVos admits her plan is not working.

So do experts.

“On the whole,” The Washington Post reported earlier this year, “charters have failed to live up to their promises.”

In fact, charter schools have been proven to perform no better overall than public schools.

“Rigorous research, from groups like Mathematica Policy Research and Stanford University, has found that average charter performance is roughly equivalent to that of traditional public schools,” The Post continues. “A recent study in Ohio, for instance, concluded that some of the state’s charters perform worse than the state’s public schools, some perform better, and roughly half do not significantly differ.”

And every child who is placed in a charter school means a loss of funding for public schools.

Trump is straight-up bribing GOP senators to back him against impeachment: report

According to a report from Politico, President Donald Trump is attempting to regain the full support of GOP lawmakers facing tough re-election prospects in 2020 by showering them with cash in the hopes of keeping them on his side with an impeachment vote likely.

As the House prepares to take a historic vote on Thursday authorizing the impeachment inquiry to go forward, the White House is actively engaging in fundraising with a plan to distribute money raised to GOP senators who are wavering on the support for the embattled president.

Politico reports, “Trump is tapping his vast fundraising network for a handful of loyal senators facing tough reelection bids in 2020. Each of them has signed onto a Republican-backed resolution condemning the inquiry as ‘unprecedented and undemocratic.'”

In an email to supporters headlined “WITCH HUNT,” the report states, “on Wednesday, the Trump reelection campaign sent a fundraising appeal to its massive email list urging donors to provide a contribution that would be divided between the president and Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, and North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis. Each of the senators are supporting the anti-impeachment resolution despite being endangered in 2020.”

Noticeably missing for the list of senators is Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Politico reporting, “The new online fundraising drive bypassed Collins, an occasional Trump critic who called on the president to retract his tweet comparing the impeachment investigation to a ‘lynching.’ Collins also said Trump made a ‘big mistake’ in asking China to investigate the Biden family.”

As for the other, along with Arizona Sen. Martha McSally (R), they are facing tough re-election campaigns and losses could mean control of the Senate could change hands.

“The president is looking to buck up senators coming under mounting pressure on impeachment. Gardner, who is widely seen as the most jeopardized Republican incumbent up for reelection, faced criticism earlier this month after he dodged questions about Trump’s conduct. Ernst was confronted at a town hall over her support for the president,” Politico reports. “This week, a liberal group began a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign pushing both Republican senators to support impeachment.”

Mike Reed, a Republican National Committee spokesman, Wednesday beg for cash brought in “six figures,” adding, “Our supporters stand totally behind President Trump and are eager to support down-ballot candidates who do the same.”

The report notes that the door is open for the president’s campaign to add more senators to future campaign contribution emails depending on who appears to be wavering and to keep his Senate firewall in place.

Trump ‘very keen’ on doing ‘The Apprentice: White House’ — and keeps pitching it to NBC creator Mark Burnett: report

According to a report in the Daily Beast, Donald Trump has been keeping in touch with the creator of the ‘Apprentice‘ TV show over the possibility of re-booting the reality show as a White House version.

The reports states, “Since taking office in early 2017, the president has confided to close associates that he misses hosting ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ on NBC, the reality TV staples he left behind to become the Republican Party standard-bearer and then the leader of the free world.”

Reportedly, the president has spoken with Mark Burnett, the show’s creator, and has fond memories of his time on the show that helped launch his persona as a tough businessman and demanding boss.

“According to three people with knowledge of the situation and another source close to Trump, ‘Apprentice’ creator Mark Burnett and the president have sporadically kept in touch, mostly over the phone,” the Beast reports. “One of the ideas kicked around by Burnett and the president was shooting a new version of the Trump-branded ‘Apprentice,’ tentatively titled ‘The Apprentice: White House,’ and to produce it shortly after the president leaves office. This time, however, the TV program would be explicitly politics-themed and take full advantage of Trump’s status as a former president of the United States and a newfound Republican kingmaker.”

According to one of their sources, “There have been several discussions between Burnett and Trump about ‘The Apprentice: White House.’ It is something Burnett thinks could be a money-spinner and Trump is very keen on doing,” while another one adds, “They actually talked about an ‘Apprentice: White House’ … as far as I know, the discussion did not go far.”

The Beast also notes that a spokesperson for Burnett has tried to throw cold water on the report in a statement reading, “Among other things, The President and Mr. Burnett have not discussed making television shows in any shape or form.”

Trump ordered to pay $2 million to settle foundation settlement he vowed to fight

A judge ordered President Donald Trump to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit by a group of nonprofit organizations for “persistent” violations of charities law by his family’s foundation.

The 2016 civil suit claimed the Trump Foundation unlawfully coordinated with the Trump campaign, and accused the president and his three eldest children of violating federal and state campaign finance laws and abused the foundation’s tax-exempt status, reported CNN.

The settlement came nearly a year after the foundation agreed to be dissolved under judicial supervision.

Conservative goes scorched earth on Trump by brutally ripping apart his ‘fake charity’ scam that cost him $2 million

In a biting column for the Washington Post, conservative columnist Kathleen Paker expressed a great deal of disgust for Donald Trump after he was hit with a $2 million fine for running what she called his “fake charity.”

According to the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, “Imagine President Trump’s surprise upon realizing that a charity bearing his name did not mean the money belonged to him.”

And with that, she was off…

“So it has come to pass with a New York judge’s ruling Thursday that the president had misused money given to the Donald J. Trump Foundation and, as part of a settlement, will have to pay $2 million in damages,” she wrote. “The man who popularized ‘fake news’ apparently also invented a fake charity. They’re tons of fun until you get caught. But there was nothing fake about the money Trump spent that was intended for others.”

Noting that Judge Saliann Scarpulla wrote, “Mr. Trump owed fiduciary duties to the Foundation. Mr. Trump breached his fiduciary duty to the Foundation,” to which Parker added a sarcastic, “I’d say.”

“It probably goes without saying that the president engaged in his usual gaslighting — trying to make others question their own reality — and initially had cast the suit as a partisan sham,” she suggested. “How could there be any wrongdoing when the doer was Donald J. Trump himself? As if to say, Hey, my name’s on the foundation. Obviously, the money’s mine.”

“Trump has always been accustomed to doing things his way. Republicans have spent millions at Trump resorts since his election: report

GOP-affiliated political groups and candidates have spent more than $8 million at the president's various resorts and properties since President Trump was elected in 2016, according to a new analysis.

Politico on Monday reported that analysis from the left-leaning consumer rights group Public Citizen shows that the Trump Organization has become a haven for Republican groups hosting political events and fundraisers, an informal arrangement that directly financially benefits the president.

The amount reported by Politico represented a sharp increase in revenue from political sources for the Trump Organization, which received just under $70,000 in total from such groups in the two years leading up to his campaign announcement.

Since that announcement in June of 2015, the amount has ballooned to $15 million, with $8 million having been spent at Trump resorts and properties since Trump won the 2016 election. The highest level was in 2016, when nearly $12 million in total political spending occurred at Trump businesses that year.

Democrats and critics of the administration have long argued that the president's financial arrangements, namely his decision to not sell his businesses before taking office, violate the constitution's Emoluments Clause prohibiting gifts to members of the federal government.

“President Trump has perfected the financial shakedown of seeking political influence as a way of life,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) of the House Oversight Committee told Politico. “This is now standard operating procedure in Washington. It’s pay-to-play all day.”

A White House spokesperson responded to Politico's report with a statement saying that Trump has no involvement in the day-to-day operations of his old company.

“As he announced in January 2017, President Donald Trump is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the Trump Organization and he does not take any action that benefits him personally,” Judd Deere said. “While House Democrats continue to spread false rumors in complete denial that the President was a successful businessman for decades, President Trump continues to keep his promises to the American people.”

Two of US Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s political supporters won ‘potentially lucrative’ Ukraine energy deal: report

The Associated Press reports that the oil and gas exploration contract was awarded after Perry recommended one of his backers as an energy adviser to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

After U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry proposed political backer Michael Bleyzer as an adviser to Ukraine’s president, the Houston man and a former University of Texas System regent “secured a potentially lucrative” energy deal from the Ukrainian government, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Perry, the former Texas governor, attended Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s inauguration this year and gave him a list of people who could serve as energy advisers, which included Bleyzer, according to the AP. More than a month later, Ukraine awarded an oil and gas exploration contract to Bleyzer and his partner Alex Cranberg, the news agency reported. Perry appointed Cranberg to the UT Board of Regents shortly after the man registered to vote in Texas following a move from Colorado. Cranberg served from 2011 to 2017 and was a controversial figure on the system’s governing board.

Democrats on three U.S. House committees last month subpoenaed documents from Perry as part of their impeachment inquiry into allegations that President Donald Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son.

An Energy Department official said Perry did not plan to comply with the subpoena, The Washington Post reported. Perry last month also told Trump he will resign from his cabinet position by the end of this year.

Belyzer told the AP that the deal with the Ukrainian government was competitive and transparent. He denied that Perry helped his firm secure the contract.

“I believe that Secretary Perry’s conversations with Ukrainian government officials, if they in fact took place, did not play any role in Ukrainian Energy winning its bid,” Bleyzer said in a statement to the AP.

An Energy Department spokeswoman told the news agency that Perry has lobbied for American industry across the globe, but did not “advocate for the business interests of any one individual or company.”

An attorney for Aspect Holdings, Cranberg’s company, told the AP that American officials supported “a fair, competitive process.”

“Aspect neither sought, nor to our knowledge received, special intervention on its behalf,” Aspect lawyer Amy Flakne told the news agency.

The AP report comes days after another former Perry appointee to the UT Board of Regents admitted to coordinating illegal campaign contributions in 2017. James Dannenbaum, a prolific Republican donor who served on the UT governing body beginning in 2007, resigned from his engineering company last week after he was charged with recruiting employees to donate to congressional candidates then reimbursing them with corporate funds. Such “conduit” donations are a felony.
