That was for the wall, wasn’t it? So he appropriated military funds? I’m honestly not sure about the answer here, but I thought they didn’t give him money for the wall?

I’m not sure the two of them actually ever said the words “Russian agent”, but I think it’s safe to say nobody ever really wants to say that about any POTUS. If they tried, though, I’m sure they could actually form the words. I don’t recall them ever attempting to speak words and not being able to utter them.

Pelosi Trump is to blame for the deaths of 50,000 Americans

Speaking to the press in her weekly briefing, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blamed President Donald Trump’s slow response for the deaths of 50,000 Americans, without even saying his name.

She cited a Columbia report which recently revealed that if the president had shut down the United States just a week earlier, half of the people in the United States could have been saved.

“Did you see the Columbia report that came out?” Pelosi asked the reporters. “That if one week sooner, one week sooner, we had had a lockdown as other countries did. Korea and the United States had — I don’t know if it’s the first case or the first death — the same day. They locked down. They’ve lost over 300 people. Just over 300 people. We waited a couple of weeks. The report further says if we had done it when Korea did, we would have saved over 50,000 lives. But just one week was well into the over 30,000 people who would not have died.”

One week would have saved 36,000 people, the report said.

“So, we really just have to be smart and strategic and that is what our bill does,” Pelosi continued. “Testing, tracing, treatment, isolation. It’s smart. It’s strategic. It has a vision. It has a goal and a time table. It has milestones. It has thresholds. A plan. A strategic plan to quantify what this is and to be able to trace and treat so that we can defeat this virus.”

When Trump was asked about the study, he denied it was accurate, instead calling it “fake news” and attacking CBS reporter Weija Jiang. The White House later reconsidered the message, and blamed China and the WHO instead.

“What would have saved life is if China had been transparent and the World Health Organization had fulfilled its mission,” said their statement.

McConnell Reminds Pelosi Who Sets the Senate’s Agenda After She Yada Yadas About Burisma-Related Subpoenas

It’s hard to believe that after House Democrats prioritized impeaching Trump for his July 2019 call with Ukrainian president Zelensky over issues that actually mattered to the American people like, I dunno, fighting the Wuhan virus, that they would understand they really are in no position to lecture Republicans at this point on what should and should not be a priority in the GOP-controlled Senate.

And yet that’s exactly what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), one of the architects behind the House’s impeachment efforts, did this week in response to the Senate Homeland Security Committee voting on Wednesday to subpoena Blue Star Strategies, a PR group that did some consulting work for Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas firm. Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden was a board member for Burisma up until last year, and made at least $50,000 a month in spite of having no experience in the oil and gas industry.

Here’s what Pelosi said:

“These Republican subpoenas are a clear act of retaliation and political retribution intended to help the President keep his job. It is sad that the GOP Senate has meekly and weakly chosen to be complicit in the President’s desperate and dangerous political tactics instead of passing legislation to save lives and livelihoods,” the Speaker continued, adding that she was calling upon Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) “to ‘take a pause’ in the Senate GOP’s obstruction of meeting the needs of the American people.”

McConnell told host Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum in response that Pelosi was the last person who should be telling Senate Republicans what priorities to set:

“I’d say to the speaker, after the impeachment, you are not in a position to be lecturing us about what the appropriate use of Senate time is,” McConnell told host Martha MacCallum.

“If the House can spend time on a baseless impeachment effort,” he argued, “then we should at least have oversight on what happened to initiate this whole process a couple of years ago.”

Pelosi is getting under Trump’s skin — and Dem lawmakers are sitting back and enjoying it: report

According to a report from the Daily Beast, Democrats behind the scenes are praising House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her ability to drive Donald Trump into uncontrollable rages while at the same time appearing to be above the fray.

Days after the senior Democrat expressed concern that the president was at risk from the coronavirus because he appears to be “morbidly obese” — which set off a firestorm — Democrats applauded her ability to get under the president’s skin.

“The quip spun up a brief furor and outrage cycle; Trump responded that Pelosi was ‘sick’ and had ‘mental problems,’ comments which then spun up an outrage cycle of their own. Two days later, Pelosi defended herself, saying ‘I was being factual in a very sympathetic way” and called the whole dust-up “unimportant,'” the report states. “But to those who’ve known and watched Pelosi for a long time, there’s a sense that there’s very little that she does or says that is not deliberate. With that in mind, some in the House Democratic caucus are looking at this week’s spat between Pelosi and the president as evidence of a greater willingness on her part to push his buttons with the kind of personal attacks that he frequently doles out himself.”

According to one former Pelosi aide, her way of getting the president’s attention come as no surprise.

“It’s her ability to say the truth in a way that really gets under his skin, I think it’s just reminding people there’s a lot more to this story than what he says,” the aide, who wished to remain anonymous, admitted. “In this situation with COVID-19 and truly needing the facts and that’s a way of actually breaking through the clutter.”

As for her fellow Democrats, while not all of them approve of her baiting the easily-riled Trump, she also has her fans.

“There is a benefit in owning him like this from time to time,” said one House Democratic aide. “She engages in these fights and it says, I am not going to be pushed around, I am powerful and my power is not dependent on you.”

The report goes on to note that Pelosi’s needling of Trump has taken a more serious turn as the election nears.

“This year, the tension between the two leaders broke into the open in a way it hadn’t before. Before the fat crack, of course, was the infamous State of the Union snub—Trump rejecting Pelosi’s outstretched hand—which led to the infamous State of the Union slash—Pelosi ripping up Trump’s speech—which sparked a multi-day cycle of sniping and opining,” the Beast reports. ” The coronavirus pandemic has hardly drawn the two any closer. Though Congress and the White House have spent weeks on painstaking negotiations over historic bills to respond to COVID-19, Pelosi and Trump didn’t directly speak during any of it. In fact, the two have not spoken on the phone or in person since Oct. 16, 2019, when Pelosi went to a White House meeting on Syria, according to the speaker’s office.”

“Naturally, however, Trump’s defenders in the congressional GOP have taken umbrage on behalf of the president in the wake of Pelosi’s attack. The House GOP leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tweeted that if he is speaker, he would never “rip up a president’s speech” or call them ‘morbidly obese,'” the report adds. ” It all reflects, to some Democrats, Pelosi’s unique ability to get under the president’s skin—and perhaps a sign she should do it more often. “It reminds people he is small,’ said a House Democratic aide. ‘Trump clearly fears and respects her, whereas he loathes Schumer, who is usually good cop when it’s time for wheeling and dealing.'”

I was just watching Chris Hayes on MSNBC and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came on. And 20 minutes later for the first time I was thinking PRESIDENT PELOSI, She hit every question out of the park and then hit back three times as hard with facts. logic, and reason.

I have said before that I really wanted Nancy Pelosi to return as House Speaker because there is no one better and more experienced. But I just hooped and prayed she would stay off TV because I did not think she was all that good at it. And I have rarely been proven more wrong. Speaker Pelosi is not only really great on TV she is also way to tough for most the media and will simply rhetorically run over the top of them to get her message out. And I literally had to laugh a little while ago when Mrs Alan Greenspan had Pelosi on her show and as usual had a whole bunch of really stupid shit stirring questions she wanted to ask her. And instead Pelosi just kept ignoring them to get to what is really important. Pelosi has been doing that quite regularly lately and has actually been on TV as much or more than Trump.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday mocked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for his efforts to appease President Donald Trump’s criticisms of major social media companies.

During a press conference, Pelosi said that Zuckerberg “just panders” to Trump in an effort to preserve his business model, which she described as a platform for people to “misrepresent facts” without consequence.

“They knew during the 2016 elections that the Russians were engaged in foul play,” she said. “They knew, because they saw where the money was coming from!”

She then turned her attention to Trump’s new executive order that will reportedly open up tech platforms to more lawsuits.

“What the president is doing is silly,” she said. “It’s a distraction. I opened this meeting talking about testing, how it’s going to save lives, open our economy, send our kids back to school… We’re talking about Twitter. So let’s get back to saving lives, okay?”

Pelosi, Schumer Slam Trump After Federal Officers Teargas Peaceful DC Protestors: ‘Fanning of the Flames of Discord, Bigotry, and Violence’

The leaders of the House and Senate Democratic caucuses issued a joint statement late on Friday night, calling out incendiary rhetoric and violent street tactics employed by the Trump White House amidst the nationwide protests over the alleged murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement that directly condemned the Secret Service and Army National Guard MPs who attacked peaceful protestors in Washington, D.C. on Friday evening and teargassed them, all before the city’s curfew had begun. The law enforcement’s forceful tactics, the Democrat leaders noted, was apparently deployed to facilitate a presidential photo op at a nearby church, which was later forcibly condemned by church’s Episcopal bishop.

“Across our country, Americans are protesting for an end to the pattern of racial injustice and brutality,” the pair said in the statement. “Yet, at a time when our country cries out for unification, this President is ripping it apart. Tear-gassing peaceful protestors without provocation just so that the President could pose for photos outside a church dishonors every value that faith teaches us.”

“We call upon the President, law enforcement and all entrusted with responsibility to respect the dignity and rights of all Americans,” they added. “Together, we must insist on the truth that America must do much more to live up to its promise: the promise of liberty and justice for all, which so many have sacrificed for – from Dr. King to John Lewis to peaceful protestors on the streets today.

“At this challenging time, our nation needs real leadership,” Pelosi and Schumer concluded. “The President’s continued fanning of the flames of discord, bigotry and violence is cowardly, weak and dangerous.”

Libertarian Think Tank Praises Pelosi’s Call to Remove Confederate Statues from Capitol: ‘Slavery is The Least Libertarian Thing Imaginable’

Libertarian think tanks are not commonly in the habit of sending out press releases praising Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), but that is exactly what happened Wednesday when the R Street Institute commended her call to remove Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol.

Pelosi posted a letter she sent to Congress’ Joint Committee on the Library, the committee that oversees the management of the National Statuary Hall collection, to request that they direct the Architect of the Capitol to “immediately take steps to remove” from public display 11 statues representing Confederate soldiers and officials, including the President and Vice President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis and Alexander Stephens.

Currently, the National Statuary Hall displays 102 statues, consisting of two statues donated by each of the fifty states, one from the District of Columbia, and one of Rosa Parks, who was added by an act of Congress in 2005, and her statue officially unveiled in 2013, the year she would have turned 100. The statue of Davis was donated by Mississippi and the statue of Stephens comes from Georgia.

“The statues in the Capitol should embody our highest ideals as Americans,” wrote Pelosi, “expressing who we are and who we aspire to be as a nation. Monuments to men who advocated cruelty and barbarism to achieve such a plainly racist end are a grotesque affront to these ideals. Their statues pay homage to hate, not heritage. They must be removed.”

R Street responded to Pelosi’s letter by releasing their own press release, applauding her decision.

In 2017, R Street President Eli Lehrer and Demand Progress Policy Director Daniel Schuman co-authored an op-ed calling for these Confederate statues to be removed from public view, and the legislatures of the states represented by those statues invited to nominate new ones.

Mediaite reached out to Lehrer for comment, and asked him about the uniqueness of his organization publicly praising one of Congress’ most prominent Democrats.

“We thought it was important,” explained Lehrer, “because properly understood libertarianism and classical liberalism is about building a diverse society.”

“Freedom is important because it allows for diversity,” he continued, “and putting symbols of a cause that existed solely for the purpose of preserving slavery and white supremacy in the very center of American democracy is not consistent with classical liberal values.”

“Look, the cause for what the Confederacy stood — slavery — is the least libertarian thing imaginable.”

Lehrer noted that the law requires a special act of Congress to actually remove the statues completely from the Capitol property and return them to their states (similar to the congressional act that brought in Rosa Parks as a new statue), but there is no such procedure needed to simply remove them from public display, commenting that this was the solution he and Schuman had proposed in their 2017 op-ed.

“There’s nothing that says where they have to be, and they can be hidden,” he said. “The states can then find more fitting symbols for them, that represent people who are actually good and actually did good things — anybody who is there primarily for their service to the Confederacy is not someone who is admirable.”

For his own home state, Virginia, Lehrer suggested their Confederate statue should be replaced with Grace Hopper, a computer scientist, a pioneer in computer programming, and a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy who passed away in 1992.

“There’s only one female scientist or engineer in the collection right now,” said Lehrer, calling Hopper “perfect for Virginia because the two biggest industries are military and high tech,” and observing that there was not currently anything of note in the state named for her.

As for my own home state of Florida, one of our Capitol statues depicts Dr. John B. Gorrie, the physician and inventor who is viewed as the father of air conditioning — undoubtedly a most beloved representative for the Sunshine State. The other is Edmund Kirby Smith, a general in the Confederate Army who was born in St. Augustine but had little ties to Florida after his early childhood.

In 2018, the Florida Legislature passed a bill to replace Smith with an actual Floridian, Mary McLeod Bethune, the founder of what is now Bethune-Cookman College, a historically black university in Daytona Beach.
