The Kente Cloth Worn by Democrats During Their Kneeling Virtue Signal Has Highly Racist Connections

Democrats thought they were scoring points with their ludicrous display of wearing kente cloth (cultural appropriation anyone?) while kneeling to show that they were all on-board with the Black Lives Matter movement. As it turns out, however, those clothes they draped around their neck have a far more sinister history.

It was supposed to be a winning moment for Democrats. They knelt for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the same amount of time the officer knelt on George Floyd, resulting in his death. It all led up to Democrats introducing new legislation meant for police reform and all the media applause one could ask for.



But as USA Today points out, the Democrats publicity stunt was likely a little less researched than they thought. As it turns out, the kente cloth they wore were actually tied to affluent Africans who got rich selling their fellow Africans in the slave trade.

The issue was first pointed out by a man named Dave Brandon in a Facebook post, who noticed something was a bit off:

A little lesson in history. Yesterday the Democrats wore kente scarfs and knelt down for their photo op.

So check this out, Kente cloth was worn by the Ashanti. It’s made of silk so the affluent wore it. The Ashanti were also known as slave owners and traders. Huh? The Ashanti’s long-time ally, the Akwamu, were among the first ones to profit from the slave trade with the Europeans. Their captives were almost always prisoners of war, but they were not above to selling Akwamu men who offended the chief. They also kidnapped able-bodied men from other tribes and sold them in the coastal slave markets.

This makes me wonder why they chose to wear this particular tribe’s garb. So many questions!

USA Today pointed out that the cloth has a broader history for West Africa, but went more into detail about who Ashanti was and what his connections were to the slave trade:

The Asante supplied British and Dutch traders with slaves in exchange for firearms, which they used to expand their empire. Slaves were often acquired as tributes from smaller states or captured during war. Some slaves were brought across the Atlantic whiles others stayed in Africa to work in gold fields.

According to the BBC, by the end of the 18th century, the region exported an estimated 6,000-7,000 slaves per year.

USA Today still attempted to run defense for the Democrats by pointing out that the kente cloth has a more historical modern significance, but if we’re going to play by the rules the left has laid out, should that actually matter?



The left is currently tearing down statues if the person depicted was even a little racist in their past, or just racist by today’s standards. They vandalized abolitionist Matthias Baldwin and he was saying “black lives matter” long before any of these activists were, so you don’t even have to be racist at all.

Regardless, the Democrats are now guilty of wearing a symbol of a rich, slave-trading empire that made its money on the backs of enslaved Africans and passing it off as showing solidarity with the American black community. What the kente cloth represented might have been forgotten over time, but rest assured, this is its history.

Which is probably appropriate, seeing as how the Democrats have a long history of taking part in and defending slavery, even to the point of going to war over it. If they were looking to leave that image behind and be embraced as the party that protects and supports minorities, maybe they should get a different symbol.

It’s likely not going to happen, though. They’ll still wear the kente cloth while proclaiming that racist statues that depict pro-slavery historical figures should come down.

 

Anyone else notice, this disgraceful display by Nancy Antoinette and the power rangers was in the news cycle for, like, a minute.

If that was Trump pulling this stunt the dispicables would be frothing and spinning in circles for months.

No matter. It just shows how juvenile the despicables are, and how desperate they are to win ............... something .................. anything.

 

I am actually is awe of how good House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is on TV. In fact she's one of the best I have ever seen. Pelosi always has the House Democratic agenda right out front and she is going to promote it no matter what. But Pelosi is also great at thinking on her feet and doesn't get trapped by gotcha questions or attempts to drag her into controversies she doesn't want to address. And she is also skillful. The press is always trying to get her to engage in things like Trump's mental and physical health and she will respond with we all pray for the president's health but won't diagnosis him, And she is getting a lot of air time.

Nancy Pelosi orders removal of 4 photos of previous House speakers who served in the confederacy

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has ordered confederate paintings to be removed from the nation’s capitol. She has specifically called for the removal of four photos of previous House speakers from the Capitol Complex because the late lawmakers also served in the confederacy.

Pelosi has already removed eleven statues of confederates from the capitol in recent weeks. Her announcement comes ahead of Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery. She made the following remarks on the matter:

“Tomorrow is Juneteenth, a day that we observe of a day of freedom in our country. A day that people in the west found out about the Emancipation Proclamation. In observance of that I have sent a letter, which you will see to the clerk of the House directing the clerk to remove the portraits of four previous Speakers of the House who served in the Confederacy.”

Other notable Democrats are echoing Pelosi’s calls. Meanwhile, critics are slamming the move and are accusing the House speaker of trying to erase history.

Pelosi has clearly studied Orwell.

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

To make US confederate former speakers “unpersons” is maybe the most Orwellian notion I can think of.

Is the next step to remove former confederate oratory from the congressional record?

Should US confederate graves be dug up so that African Americans can spit on the remains?

And I’m not being hyperbolic here. In the present political climate in the US I can see this happening.

It’s not a bad question. Robert, who served in the Senate — as Minority Leader 1981-1987 and Majority leader 1987-1989 — was in fact a former member of the Ku Klux Klan.

As relayed by RedState’s Amelia Hamilton in 2017, in 1944, Robert wrote the following to Mississippi Sen. Theodore Bilbo:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side … Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

Perhaps particularly relevant now, Amelia wrote, “If you must destroy statues, consider these four.”


The other three: Che Guevara in New York City, “hard-core racist Margaret Sanger” (presumably at the Smithsonian), and Vladimir Lenin in Seattle.

Back to Robert, The Washington Post remembered him this way:

As a young man, Mr. Byrd was an “exalted cyclops” of the Ku Klux Klan. Although he apologized numerous times for what he considered a youthful indiscretion, his early votes in Congress — notably a filibuster against the 1964 Civil Rights Act — reflected racially separatist views.

But Hillary hailed him as a man of “surpassing…nobility” and the “heart and soul of America”:


Pelosi loved the guy, too, honoring him thusly upon his passing:

“While some simply bore witness to history, Senator Byrd shaped it – and strove to build a brighter future for us all. … He never hesitated to speak truth to power. He was a voice of reason during times of war and economic hardship. … And he always stood on principle, even when others did not.”

Of course, people can change. But who’s to say which former Confederate Speakers held which beliefs during their terms? Or at the ends of their lives? Does Nancy know?

 

Interesting that there is the obsession to remove the portraits of confederate supporting house speakers but never the acknowledgment that these were Democrats. Never an apology that the Democrats were the party of slavery and the fiercest opponents of civil rights legislation.

This is the history of the Democratic Party in the United States that they refuse to take responsibility for.

Lynching was going on institutionally during the FDR administration but I see no federal legislation against this then.

So put on the Ghana robes and kneel and pretend that makes everything ok!

 

I think erasing history is a bad thing. Unfortunately, it's happened since the creation of mankind. Temples were defaced in Egypt erasing the history in many cases so we're left to guess what happened. Nazi book burning, Russians tearing down Stalins stautues... It's still happening all over the world to this day.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) may be losing a grip on her establishment base, as a recent Data for Progress poll shows incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, down by double digits against his primary challenger, Jamaal Bowman, who has scored the backing of progressive giants in Congress.

The survey, taken June 11 -15 among 525 likely Democrat voters, showed Engel down by ten percent, 31 percent to Bowman’s 41 percent, in the primary race for New York’s 16th District. The survey indicated that there is room for a shift, as more than a quarter — 27 percent — remain undecided. However, the results of the follow-up question did not bode well for the incumbent.


“Given that you are undecided, who are you leaning towards supporting?” the survey asked, showing 40 percent choosing Bowman and 18 percent selecting Engel.

Bowman’s lead remains outside of the survey’s +/- 5.1 percent margin of error.

The American Prospect adds:

As one might expect, Bowman, who is running to Engel’s left, enjoys a considerable 43-17 lead with voters under 45, who tend to support progressives overwhelmingly. But Bowman is also winning voters over 45 by 6 percent, non-college-educated voters by 8 percent, college-educated voters by 9 percent, and female voters by 17 percent. His advantage is even more dominant when broken out by racial group: he’s winning Black voters by a startling 56-10 margin. Engel’s best demographic, meanwhile, is whites, who he’s winning 52-30 (it’s the only demographic he’s winning aside from men, who favor him by a 2 percent margin).

The survey comes as the ultra-progressive wing of the Democrat party, comprised of lawmakers who openly tout radical socialist policies, rush to back Bowman in what some view as a continued act of defiance against Pelosi’s establishment grip. Far-left members of the “Squad” infamously went toe-to-toe with the speaker several times last year.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said at the time. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

While the speaker and “Squad” members made peace, an underlying revolt against the establishment looms large, particularly following the Democrat Party’s presidential primary, which saw Joe Biden (D) suddenly and rapidly soar to the top prior to Super Tuesday — a move many contend points to yet another “rigged” primary driven by the party’s establishment.

Several progressive lawmakers, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), have endorsed Bowman in recent days.
