I had one years ago.
We decided we didn't want children and neither one of us was liking the idea of her being on the pill over an extended period.
I know that a lot of women use birth control for other biological reasons besides contraception but that wasn't the case with us.
I suffered no ill side effects other than some mild discomfort for a few days but I do know some guys who went through excruciating pain, swelling and bruising.
I've heard that some guys are worried about the volume of their ejaculate but sperm makes up less than 10% of your seminal fluid. If you're able to detect that small of an amount of difference, you're paying WAY too much attention to your cum.
Some studies have shown an increased risk of prostate cancer among men who've been through the surgery but the numbers are so small as to be insignificant.
On the plus side, you can fuck without a condom and not have to worry about unwanted pregnancy.
I'm not sure why you refer to it as "the ultimate operation" though.

 

Can't count the number of times guys have told me they were "tied".

 

Better think this through before the lazer turns up the heat. My now ex-wife would not get her tubes tied so I maned up for the big snip. Fast forward 3 girlfriends and 35 years later maybe it was not so wise. Ended trading ability to sire offspring for a longer life. If I had continued with the life of potential multiple children would lead to poverty.

 

I had it done. Left work, went across the street to the hospital, got clipped, and returned to work.

 

If you're definitely not planning on having any children in the future and the risk of side effects are slim, go for it. But it's a personal decision that you can only make, because you're the one who has to live with that decision , not us. Good luck.

I got divorced after 20 years and two kids. Set up to have them snipped. Met a girl that has been tied, and canceled the appt. <WHEW!>
We've been married 16 years now.

But that was close...I can't afford to lose 10% of my ejaculation. It's almost non-existent at this age...

I had the snip about 10 years ago. The operation was pretty painless, but did feel slightly strange. I was a little tender for a few days after but nothing too bad.

My wife and I never wanted more than two kids. I had it done about 6 months after our younger child was born and have never regretted it.

The procedure was fairly easy. They did local anesthesia and I was awake the whole time - I guess it probably lasted 20 min from start to finish. I experienced some unpleasant tugging sensation while my urologist worked on me but it wasn't painful. There were residual aches but after about 3 days I was completely back to normal.

A very small price to pay for what is now 18 years of worry-free sex.

I had one about 12 years ago, and had no problems. Like someone said, I had some mild discomfort for a couple days. It has not affected my flow or drive, if anything it heightened my sex drive.

 

If you no longer desire fathering more offspring, then yes you should. It doesn't hurt that bad.
