The Netherlands managed to hit the breaks and possibly prevent a dramatic increase in coronavirus infections, said Aura Timen, the doctor in charge of the National Coordination of Infectious Disease Control at public health agency RIVM. She said she was "very happy" with the mostly positive news reported by the RIVM in its weekly update on the coronavirus pandemic, in particular the falling number of new infections and new hospital admissions.

"It is a positive sign that we have all managed to slow down the big increase," she told broadcaster NOS. She said she did not want to be overly optimistic with the chance likely that cases rise in the fall.

The RIVM estimated that about 29,600 people were contagious with the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus. Early data released on Tuesday showed that another 462 people tested positive for the virus.

"We do expect an increase in the number of cases, but how and where? We will have to wait and see," she said. Timen added that people should continue to get tested for the virus at the first sign of a fever or either cold or flu symptoms, and stay home until they receive their test results.

The Netherlands returned back to a downward trend in the number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals. After Monday's increase, the first in nearly two weeks, Tuesday showed six fewer admitted patients with the coronavirus disease.

"The number of COVID patients admitted is low and continues to fall slightly. This is a positive development," said Ernst Kuipers, the head of the Dutch acute care providers network.

There were 33 people being treated in intensive care for Covid-19, a decrease of five. Another 93 patients were being cared for outside of the ICU, one fewer than Monday, patient coordination office LCPS said.

The RIVM said that 19 people were admitted to hospitals with the coronavirus disease between Saturday and Monday. During that time, five people with the illness were moved into intensive care.

Timen said the fall in hospital admissions was due to fewer older people becoming infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Now, we need our "experts", but we also need to remember that they are fallible human beings, capable of errors in their predictions, and of letting their own agendas effect their predictions.

The draconian measures most of the worlds governments have taken have not saved lives worthy of the economic destruction they have caused. And with rare exception, health officials have not reported the deaths caused by the cower in place policies. Elsewhere around here shooter posted the story about Colorado officials trying to figure out why, with the lockdown and cancelation of all "elective" surgery (you know, so beds would be available for the MILLIONS of Covid patients that were just down the block). during the lockdown, deaths due to heart attack dropped to almost zero, and that confused the experts.

Turns out, heart attack deaths had actually increased significantly. Because people weren't running to the emergency room when they had chest pains and instead were dying at home of massive heart attacks. But those deaths weren't being counted because they didn't happen at, or were reported by, hospital officials. The dead were being taken to the local mortuary or morgue, where a doctor would complete the death certificate, based on either an autopsy or the families wishes. Those deaths were not being counted initially.

Imagine that. The experts fucked up even a simple thing like counting how many people die, and why.

But we accept their predictions as gospel brought down from the mount and shut down our economy and scare the living hell out of ourselves.

The CDC report said that of 182,000 deaths attributed to Covid, just over 9,000 were solely attributable to Covid.
The rest, all 173,000 deaths, had underlying health issues that Covid contributed to.

I just hear research in seven countries
(including here in NZ) has proven a steroid is an effective therapeutic treatment in serious cases of covid19.

Now we are finding out some of the reasons the death rate is dropping significantly ,
which is great news.

We knew it has to do with better care methods learned etc ,
but of course they rarely say what some of that is , untill satisfied it is actually what is working ,
and that it works consistently.

Anyway , it seems this has now been verified in seven or eight countries.
And let's face it ,
untill there's widely distributed vaccine treatments available and uptaken , therapeutic treatments are the only hope for ongoing improvements.

to one or two per day ,

All recent community cases are among known contacts , and already in managed isolation units , or other managed isolation.

All cases and close contacts are put into managed isolation where possible ,
and otherwise managed , where they can not be moved into one of the units.

All testing has results , and positive results notified , within 24 hours ,
and depending on circumstances , can be in as little as 3 or four hours.

All cases that can be ,
are genome sequence as quickly as possible , usually within a couple of days , to confirm connections , or trace connections.
Apparently not all cases could be gnome sequenced.
All the current cluster are of the B.1.1.1 strain , with the American connected case the only one in this outbreak not in that sequence.

80% , or more , of contacts traced and contacted within 2 days , and others as soon as possible.


We have 115 active cases
7 in hospital ,
of which 2 are in ICU
We have Not had any new deaths from this current outbreak

over 3,191 contacts have been identified

of those 3,136 have been contacted and are in isolation ,

We are all down to only alert level two , with Auckland in 2.5 , which simply means they have more restricted gathering rules.

DUTCH HEALTH SERVICE BUCKLING UNDER COVID TESTING PRESSURE

Dutch municipal health service GGD said it was growing more and more difficult for people in the Netherlands to get tested for the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus within two days of contacting the organization. The announcement came just hours after Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said he closed a deal with a German organization to provide between 2 and 5 thousand additional coronavirus tests every day.

Last week, the GGDs conducted nearly 162 thousand tests for the novel coronavirus, for an average of a bit over 23 thousand per day. De Jonge has repeatedly told Parliament and the public that the country could carry out 29 thousand tests daily. On Thursday, the Health Ministry said capacity could be ramped up to 44 thousand tests per day if needed.

"This morning at 10 a.m., people could no longer visit 67 of the 105 test locations within 48 hours," a spokesperson for the GGD told broadcaster NOS. The umbrella organization had warned of the possibility and increased workload before, with the Amsterdam branch of the service at one point last month saying it was unable to handle the volume of source-and-contact tracing investigations.

Many people are getting tested even if they have no relevant health symptoms to indicate an infection, the GGD said. This despite a call from the Cabinet to only get tested for the coronavirus infection when complaints surface.

The extra testing has pushed many branches beyond their capabilities. "As a result, we cannot test people who have real complaints. Teachers and healthcare personnel now sometimes have to wait days," the spokesperson said to NOS.
