Panic Buttons Issued to Medical Staff After Assaults by Patients Triple Amid COVID Surge

After reports of staff being spit on, cussed out, and in some cases even beaten by patients have tripled over the last year, Cox Medical Center Branson is issuing its staff panic buttons. Violent “repeated” incidents are on the rise across the hospital, and may be partially due to the effects of the pandemic, according to local outlet KY3. ”They come in here and they have to sit in here because everywhere’s full,” a nurse said of the med surge floors. “We have no placements to put anybody, and that’s frustrating on the patient. That’s frustrating on us.” Between 300 and 400 staff will be given panic buttons, which summon security personnel, to affix to their employee badges by the end of the year. Skaggs Foundation staffer Mindy Honey said that the project was “one of the quickest grants we’ve ever funded.”

'Rewarding them for choosing not to get vaccinated': Physicians fire back at Tennessee governor’s pandemic policies

    Sam Stockard, Tennessee Lookout
    September 28, 2021

    Gov. Bill Lee on Facebook.
Doctors across the state, including one who serves on Gov. Bill Lee's COVID-19 advisory panel, are challenging his COVID-19 policies and cheering three court decisions to overturn his executive order allowing parents to opt out of school mask mandates.

Dr. Erica Kaye, a pediatrician, oncologist and palliative care physician at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, in August drafted a letter to Gov. Lee and signed by thousands of medical professionals encouraging him to reverse course. She called the decisions by three federal judges to block Lee's executive orders in Shelby, Knox and Williamson counties, “critical steps in the right direction."

“As pediatricians and healthcare professionals, our primary mission is to save the lives of children," Kaye said. “Gov. Bill Lee has the power and the responsibility to protect the lives of Tennesseans, especially vulnerable young children who cannot yet be vaccinated. Since he has declined to do so, we are grateful that the courts have heard the concerns of those families whose children are most endangered and protected all children in these school districts. Every child, teacher and employee deserves the freedom to be safe in school, without exceptions."

U.S. District Judge J. Ronnie Greer ruled Friday that Knox County Schools must put a mask mandate in place to protect children with health risks. U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw ruled the same day that Williamson County and Franklin Special school districts would be able to enforce mask mandates without exceptions.

Those decisions came in the wake of a ruling by U.S. District Judge Sheryl Lipman to block Lee's mask opt-out order and issue a preliminary injunction in Shelby County.

Lee declined to comment last week on the pending litigation and also said he isn't sure whether he will renew the executive order when it expires Oct. 5.

The majority of Tennessee school districts opened in early August without universal mask rules, except for Shelby County Schools, Metro Nashville Public Schools and a couple of rural school systems. In the past two weeks, the state has reported nearly 18,000 pediatric cases of COVID-19, and about 33% of cases statewide are found in children.

Gov. Lee said this summer on Fox News that children don't catch COVID-19. He later amended that statement to say the disease doesn't have the same effect on children that it does on older, health-compromised adults.

At least 14 public school employees, including teachers, have died from COVID-19 since the school year began, the Tennessee Lookout previously reported. More than 14,000 people have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic started, according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

Dr. Sarah Cross, Infectious Disease director at Regional One Health in Memphis and a University of Tennessee Health Sciences physician, previously criticized the governor's executive order enabling parents to opt out of school district mask mandates. Now, she's taking aim at his policy prioritizing monoclonal antibodies for unvaccinated people, or those likely to be the sickest from COVID-19 and the Delta variant.

“It's a very difficult situation," Cross said Monday. “On the one hand we are saving lives by giving monoclonal antibodies to the unvaccinated population because they are certainly at the highest risk of dying. On the other hand, we are rewarding them for choosing not to get vaccinated, thus prolonging this pandemic – the worst public health crisis of our time."

Cross pointed out only 52% of the state's residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine. She noted Tennessee has used “a lot" of monoclonal antibodies because of low vaccination rates.

“There is not an unlimited supply of these antibodies, but physicians should be the decision makers on who gets this treatment – not Gov. Lee or Dr. Piercey," Cross said of the state's health commissioner.

Cross is a member of the Governor's Coronavirus Task Force, which hasn't met since summer 2020. Yet she is critical of his executive order on masks, which she contends put people in danger, as well as the directive on monoclonal antibodies.

“Our hospitals and frontline physicians see unvaccinated patients come in every day who are critically ill, filling up our ICUs and stretching the availability of life-saving equipment like ventilators and ECMO units. And this is entirely preventable," Cross said in a statement. “The problem is that Gov. Lee and some radical politicians have made this a political issue from the beginning, seeking to divide us for political gain, instead of treating this pandemic as the health crisis that it is."

When Cross first spoke out about the danger of the Delta variant in mid-August, 11,276 cases of COVID-19 infections had been reported among school-aged children, and 50 were hospitalized. Two died at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and eight were in the intensive care unit there.

The problem is that Gov. Lee and some radical politicians have made this a political issue from the beginning, seeking to divide us for political gain, instead of treating this pandemic as the health crisis that it is.

    – Dr. Sarah Cross, Infectious Disease director at Regional One Health in Memphis

Lee continued to defend his stance last week against mask requirements as well President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses with more than 100 employees, saying he thinks mandates “counteract" the state's efforts to quell the pandemic.

The governor noted he has encouraged people to be vaccinated, with more than 112,000 getting the shot in the past week. But he declined to be photographed taking the vaccine and said he would not be involved in commercials encouraging people to take the vaccine.

In addition, Lee stood by his administration's directive for monoclonal antibodies to be used on the unvaccinated but gave himself an out on two fronts.

He noted the state is following guidelines set by the National Institutes of Health but said the ultimate decision about who receives monoclonal antibodies lies with clinicians.

“The good news is that the supply we're receiving from the federal government exceeds our demand for it right now and has so for the last several weeks. We believe that will continue because our case counts are dropping and our need for monoclonal antibodies will drop as well as hospitalizations do, or as infections do," Lee told reporters.

Asked why the state is following the guidelines if there is no shortage of monoclonal antibodies, Lee reiterated that the state gives guidelines to clinicians, who make the decision whether to use them.

“So the state has not directed that clinician to follow a guideline. They have given and passed along the National Institutes of Health guidelines."

The number of cases in Tennessee jumped by 5,638 Monday from the previous day, and deaths went up by 85. Hospitalizations, in contrast, dropped by 142 from the previous day, although 2,957 remain in the hospital for COVID-19 treatment.

Testing increased by 30,124 since Sunday with a 15.9% positive rate. More than 9.7 million tests have been taken.

New Stats Show Just How Effective NY’s Controversial Hospital Vax Mandate Is

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul released new stats on Tuesday showing that the state’s vaccine mandate for hospital workers, which came into effect on Monday amid some protests, prompted an extraordinary number of health-care workers to finally get vaccinated. Before Monday, 84 percent of the state’s 450,000 hospital workers were vaccinated, along with 83 percent of its 145,400 nursing home workers. That left as many as 94,000 workers on the brink of being fired on Monday, prompting New York to scramble for emergency backup. But, by Tuesday, a whopping 92 percent of nursing home staff, 89 percent of adult care facilities staff, and 92 percent of hospital staff had been vaccinated, Hochul’s office said.

“This new information shows that holding firm on the vaccine mandate for health care workers is simply the right thing to do to protect our vulnerable family members and loved ones from COVID-19,” Hochul said. A similar mandate for school workers was temporarily derailed up by court challenges.

I tend to agree. We do need to vaccinate the rest of the world for our own protection. But where I live I am surrounded by Ratlicking treasonous conservative/Republicans that give us one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country and we felt the extra precaution against them is justified.

Especially when our hospitals are so overcrowded they can't even adequately treat medial emerg3encies any first year EMT would recognize.

Vatican to Employees: Get Vaxxed, Get Regularly Tested, or Get Out

The Vatican announced Tuesday that employees of the Vatican City State will be required to receive a coronavirus vaccine, regularly submit a recent negative COVID-19 test, or go without pay as of Oct. 1. Those without either will be deemed “unjustly absent” in the eyes of the church, which comes with the penalty of a lost salary. The Vatican has said it will not issue exemptions to the policy. Pope Francis himself was vaccinated in January. A staunch conservative critic of the pontiff, Cardinal Raymond Burke, continues to struggle with long-haul symptoms of the virus after being released from the hospital.

    Shooter is confused.

It was, in fact always has been, understood that someone who has been vaccinated is Protected from whatever horror the vaccine was developed for.
So, the covid vaccinated are protected.
    Not 100%, but damn near.
    Right?

So now, we're all over the unvaccinated, cause, you know, DEATH!!
Doesn't it strike anyone else odd that suddenly, with Covid, the protected have to be protected from the unprotected?

Wasted lives, wasted time, and $5.7 billion wasted on treating the unvaccinated

The costs of treating unvaccinated people for coronavirus infections were $5.7 billion between June and August of 2021, a new report from the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation has concluded. In the world of health care, that might not be much. Americans spent about $3.8 trillion dollars on health care in 2019, so $5.7 billion represents just 0.15% of overall health care spending. But in the world that most of us live in, $5.9 billion is a lot. It represents a staggering loss that didn’t have to happen. Since mid-April, safe and effective vaccines have been available without charge to virtua...

Another glaring lie of conservatism as it is preached and practiced in this nation where treasonous conservative/Republicans swear they oppose government waste. Unless the waste is caused by their Dear Leader Traitor Trump. And in that case the sky's the limit to pay for the death and destruction caused by Trump's pathological lying.

GOP lawmaker unloads on anti-vaxxers after mom dies from COVID: 'Killing people with misinformation'

    John Wright
    September 30, 2021

    Rep. Greg Chaney (Facebook)
An Idaho Republican lawmaker says he's haunted by his mother's death from COVID-19 after she chose not to get vaccinated.

"Acknowledging that what happened was a product of Mom's choice kind of throws a strange wrinkle in the grieving process," state Rep. Greg Chaney told the Idaho Statesman. "Because she didn't exactly choose to die. But she chose, based on her age and physical condition, that she was highly likely to end up there if she got COVID. It's a hard thing to wrap your brain around.

"Mom had worked at the Old Mercy Medical Center as a chaplain," Chaney added. "She worked in a doctor's office. She wasn't anti-medicine. She wasn't gullible. She had two post-secondary degrees. She was an intelligent person. She was, however, a very skeptical person."

Chaney's mother, 74-year-old Judy Teter-Page, reportedly refused to go to a hospital for two days because she was afraid of Idaho's newly enacted health-care rationing standards, which came in response to an influx of COVID-19 patients. Teter-Page had heard rumors that Idaho hospitals weren't resuscitating anyone — even though that portion of the standards only becomes a factor if ventilators are scarce.

"I was correcting some misconceptions about things like refusal to treat, can they turn us away, or can they just let her lay there and die," Chaney said, adding that his mother eventually became "too delirious" to refuse to go to the hospital.

She died at West Valley hospital on Sept. 20 — 15 minutes after Chaney arrived to visit her.

Chaney is now encouraging people to get vaccinated, and he "blames misinformation for convincing his mother that the side effects of the vaccine would be a greater risk to her health than COVID-19," the Statesman reports.

He said it was "emotionally taxing" for hospital staff to lose another patient, and he knows that unvaccinated patients are taking resources away from others who are sick.

"But moreover, it's the family members of these folks who are suffering the consequences of their decisions," Chaney said. "Frankly, there's some anger. I think there are people in our political realm … who are essentially killing people with misinformation. But they'll get away with it, because you can never really tell at what point somebody was convinced of a lie. Was it the fifth time it was repeated? Was it the 50th time? Was it the 500th time? Nobody really knows. But this politically motivated misinformation campaign that's out there is deadly."

Seems to be the trend just now.
The government is telling us that even though we are vaccinated, we need to demonize the unvaccinated to, you know, protect ourselves.
So again, the protected need to be protected from the unprotected.

This is little more than a continuation of the "be so afraid of dying you stop living" movement.

Rural communities are becoming 'kill boxes' where 1 out of every 434 people have died from COVID-19: report

    Brad Reed
    September 30, 2021

The known global Covid-19 death toll has crossed four million(AFP)

NBC News reports that the COVID-19 pandemic has hit rural American communities particularly hard, as an estimated one out of every 434 residents in rural areas has died from COVID-19.

NBC's report notes that there are many reasons the virus has hit these communities so hard: They have lower vaccination rates than other areas, they don't have the quality of health care typically found in urban and suburban areas, and many people living in rural America suffered from poor health before the pandemic hit last year.

Alan Morgan, head of the National Rural Health Association, said that the situation in rural hospitals was dire.

"We've turned many rural communities into kill boxes," he said. "And there's no movement towards addressing what we're seeing in many of these communities, either among the public, or among governing officials."

John Henderson, president and CEO of the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals, similarly said that hospitals in his state are being forced to make dire decisions about who gets care.

"We literally have email Listservs of rural chief nursing officers or rural CEOs sending up an SOS to the group, saying, 'We've called 60 or 70 hospitals and can't get this heart attack or stroke patient or surgical patient out and they're going to get septic and die if it goes on much longer," he said.

U.S. Hits 700,000 COVID Deaths Despite Free, Widely Available Vaccine

In yet another grim milestone, the United States has passed 700,000 deaths from COVID-19 despite the widespread availability of safe and effective vaccines. According to The New York Times, the recent wave of deaths is primarily attributed to the Delta variant—add that to those who refuse to get vaccinated and it’s a recipe for disaster. The CDC reports that unvaccinated people have a 10x greater risk of dying from the virus than vaccinated people. Howard Markel, a medical historian at the University of Michigan, calls the deaths after the vaccines’ availability to the public “absolutely needless.” Another defining characteristic of the recent wave of deaths is that the victims are younger, with those under 55 facing their highest death rate since the pandemic began.

The reason he won't answer that very simple question is because its just an inane Traitor Trump cult following tremulous conservative/Republican killing lie. If Traitor Trump was suddenly screaming for mandatory mask wearing and vaccines these Red State governors would be issuing mandates right and left. But since he isn't they would rather kill their own people.

WV governor snaps at CBS host over tough Covid question: 'Margaret, you don't have to come in so hot'

    CBS/screen grab
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) complained on Sunday after CBS host Margaret Brennan asked him why he is not requiring children to be vaccinated for Covid-19.

But Justice said there was "no chance" he would change his mind.

"Why?" Brennan pressed. "As governor, you mandate -- we looked -- measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, polio, other vaccines. Why won't you put Covid on that list?"

"Now, Margaret, you know, you don't have to come in so hot," Justice replied. "You guys asked me to come. You know."

"I'm asking you to clarify," Brennan said.

"I truly believe that the mandates only divide us and only divide us more," the governor opined. "From the standpoint of mandates, I don't believe in imposing on our freedoms over and over and over. And I've said that over. I don't know how many times I've got to say it."

"We've still got to stand up for who we are," he added. "For crying out loud, we're Americans."

It doesn't work that way. It's the antimaskers and anti vaxxers who control Trump. He has no real influence over them.

Trump and his governors don't actually give a fuck about masks and vaccines. What they care about is being in front of the crowd and looking like they are leading.

Trump got a taste of trying to sell the vaccine in Alabama and instantly felt the cold wind coming off the crowd. He and all the other Republican elected officials are vaccinated, even if they won't admit it on camera because they don't want to die. They don't have the balls to say, "Get vaccinated because I need your vote in the next election." The best they can do, which they always do, is put it off on somebody else and say, "Ask your Dr if a vaccine is right for you." That way no one can accuse them of pushing vaccines.

They know the important thing is to keep their base content. If this means standing by while a couple hundred thousand of them die in the coming months, that's just politics.

Fake vaccine cards and Ivermectin sent from China to Texas intercepted by Border Patrol

An official US Covid-19 vaccination card Robyn Beck AFP/File

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol seized multiple shipments of fake vaccine cards and Ivermectin in Chicago on Monday, reported the Daily Beast.

According to the report, boxes labeled "logs" and "greeting cards" were shipped from Mexico and China to Texas, but inside were multiple packages of Ivermectin pills, a livestock drug, and cards people have tried to replicate to fake their vaccines.

"Prescriptions for Ivermectin have been difficult to obtain in the U.S." Scientists explain that the research of the drug showed for it to be effective it would have to be given in toxic doses. Even then, it's never been tested in humans to see if it could cure COVID outside of the lab. Still, many conspiracy theorists believe that the explosive diarrhea it causes will heal them, according to those taking it.

"One of the seized Ivermectin packages falsely claimed to contain decorative beads in an apparent attempt to get past U.S. authorities," said the report. "But the subterfuge failed when CBP officials more closely examined the shipment, X-rayed it, and notified the Food and Drug Administration's Office of Criminal Investigation of the seizure."

A major hospital system in Colorado is now saying that it won't give transplants to any patients who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

CBS News reports that UCHealth this week said it's simply too risky to have unvaccinated patients undergo transplant operations, as they will be particularly vulnerable afterward if they happen to catch COVID-19.

"For transplant patients who contract COVID-19, the mortality rate ranges from about 20% to more than 30%," UCHealth explained in a statement to CBS. "This shows the extreme risk that COVID-19 poses to transplant recipients after their surgeries."

Leilani Lutali, a woman who needs to have a replacement kidney, told CBS News that she was caught off guard by the policy, which she said wasn't in effect even two months ago.

"At the end of August, they confirmed that there was no COVID shot needed at that time," Lutali said. "Fast forward to September 28. That's when I found out... they have this policy around the COVID shot for both for the donor and the recipient."

UCHealth says Lutali and her donors have 30 days to get vaccinated before they're removed from the hospital's transplant waiting list. The hospital system also notes that patients in the past have been required to receive hepatitis B and MMR vaccines ahead of surgeries.
